Three wooden tables stand in the middle of this chamber, as your light floods into the room, a long-limbed gawky humanoid stand over a a human's corpse on one of the tables, you note several creatures on the human. As the light falls over the creatures, it panics and screeches, opening a hutch and then fleeing down a tunnel to the rear and right of you. Before you can move to intercept, you hear the buzzing of five more of those multi-winged flyers.
I'll give out additional info for higher knowledge rolls. I'
ll also post a map tomorrow.
DM X
Huh, no one has other knowledge skills? There should be rules for common monsters and local knowledge. As these are uncommon but not rare creatures, you can use Knowledge (local) to ID with 5DC higher. so a 21/22 check will do it with local.
Marra failed her perception, so she'll have to wait to identify when they get close.
Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade
Marra moves toward Drakus, touches his shield and chants softly a glow coming to her hand and transfers it to Drakus' shield. Just it time to see an angry red batlike creature swoop toward them.
Apologies: first test should have been Arcana
Arcana1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Dungeon1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
"BAH STIRGE! VICIOUS BLOOD-SUCKING PARASITES!"
you know that means trouble...
DM X
everyone will have a chance to attack the stirges before they get their attack, should make for a relatively quick combat methinks. Then make an AoO as they enter your square. Don't think we'll need a map for this.
Inititative order
Marra
Donagar
Aliandara
Panish
Drakus [edited per Marra's tactics domain allowing Drakus to re-roll]
stirges
One stirge is flying toward each player. They are tiny and will provoke AoOs prior to contact.
had to up the number from 2 to 5 just to make it interesting...of course 2 under 3.5 were more deadly than 5 in PFRPG. 1d4 Con drain was brutal
Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade
Marra draws her war razor and waits for the stirge to come into range, 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14. Just missing as it wings over, and comes in to attempt to grapple, Marra slices once more. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 this time catching the foul creature with the large razor blade. 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
MArra also uses her tactical abilities to grant Drakus an extra I check
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Sgt. Drakus
Sgt. Drakus, seeing the things wing towards him, lunges out with his long Bardiche...
Bardiche attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 for a possible 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 piercing damage.
...Critical threat confirm? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 if so, an extra 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 piercing damage.
... and as it flies in to attack, swings for an attack of opportunity.
Bardiche AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 for a possible 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 slashing damage.
DM X
Marra lands a slice on the vermin as it comes in close, but is unable to take it down.
Donagar slices the stirge in half as it comes in, then bats away the pieces before even a drop of blood lands on him
Aliandara, clearly shaken by the flutter of their four wings misses them entirely.
Panish chops his neatly severing one wing, but it continues on toward him, its now erratic flight too hard to compensate for a second attack.
Drakus stabs the one assaulting him impaling it on his weapon, then using the reach of his bardiche, chops down the one closing on Aliandara.
Stirge touch attack on Marra 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Stirge touch attack on Panish 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Both stirges catch with their hooked feet, landing on the Champions of Iomedae
Those foul things stab their proboscis into them and drain (1 Con) blood from their victims.
Begin round 2.
Marra1d100 ⇒ 84 1-10% chance No exposure
Panish1d100 ⇒ 12 1-10% chance No exposure
Aliandara Leloric
Aliandara sees the bugs sucking the life out of her companions and moves in to help Panish now that Marra seems have gotten rid of her bug.
"Get off of him you filthy insect!
She 5ft into flanking and tries to sneak attack the bug
Flanking Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + (4, 5) + 1 = 11
DM X
Panish, yours is grappling you, so I will assume that is a grapple roll instead. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. You knock the thing loose, now you're slightly woozy from blood loss.
Donagar, your first is dead, cut neatly in half and swatted away. they have all of 5 hit points and you did like 23. This is why I increased the number of them from 2 to 5.
DM X
Oops, you're right, for some reason I was thinking it was small weapons, my mistake
Donagar just misses his attack on the beast, as Panish grabs the nasty beast and slips the tip of his blade into it, spilling his own blood. Drakus realizing Panish has his beasty under control, spins and slices Marra's stirge in half, splattering Donagar's armor with gore.
Still in initiative if you want to chase down the pale humanoid, if not, then drop out of combat rounds and make plans.
DM X
As you press forward, the scent of decay changes from ancient and moldy bones to that of rotting garbage, before you can sight the little blue man, you hear a thick Gurgling voice...
"WARM MEAT"
The majority of this room contains a nasty-looking stretch of
mud—a partially collapsed sinkhole—kept damp by rivulets of
water seeping from the walls. A patch of solid ground extends
into the mud to form an island, on which is heaped a reeking
pile of body parts. To the north, a rickety wheelbarrow sits on
its side against the wall.
No surprise round, Its initiative 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
As Drakus' shield light illuminates the room you see this three-legged freak is mostly mouth. Three tentacles, two tipped with barbs and one with eyes, extend from its sides.
Panish Valimer
Aha!
"GHAA! What is this?"
Knowledge (local), assuming that these aren't entirely uncommon in Korvosa 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
"Some sewer beast! Intelligent you say? Then leave us be ...utyuk... we mean you no harm, and Donagar here tastes terrible! That goes for all of us. Be at peace and no blood need be spilled!"
Diplomacy 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Sgt. Drakus
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
"Hm. Whatever it is, sounds like it wants to dance."
IF Panish does make a deal with it, I will not attack.
IF Panish fails to make a deal, then I attack.
Bardiche attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 for a possible 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 points of slashing damage.

Nice, that throws me for a loop...I'll have to think about that one.
Aliandara Leloric
As Aliandara enters the room the stench hits her like a wall. She immediately covers her mouth and nose. ”Urg, do we really need to go in there?” Can be heard as she mumbles behind her hand.
IF Panish makes a deal, Alinadara will not attack but quietly try to move out of the creature's sight, it might still decide that she is tasty after all.
IF it attacks, Aliandara move closer to try and stab at it, tumbling to avoid the tentacles and some of sickening filth.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Attack with Rapier (assuming I could not manage flanking): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade
"How about cold steel?" Marra yells as she levels her repeater and lets a bolt fly. The bolt missing its mouth and impacting on its 'cheek?'.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
1d10 ⇒ 6
Donagar your attack if you please. It's getting exciting, only one more major scene after this dungeon, then we're done with this first AP Module.
