Do they depict a story, or are they more intended as singular monuments?
The monuments are obviously of soldiers, but they don't seem to tell much of a story - you think they may have been specific people and this is some sort of memorial.
The rest of the cavern recedes into the darkness to the east. It is about 80ft (25m) across where you are standing and continues at this width to the end of your line of sight.

Caliban Tre'Athkar |

"If there is nothing else we can glean here from these statues, should we continue to explore this cavern?"
Caliban asks while motioning toward the darkness.

Kloss |

Strange to depict them in such sadness. Kloss remarks. And here I thought 'glory' and 'honour' were their ways of expressing themselves. Strange.
Kloss moves along with Caliban

Kloss, Caliban and Caleb enter the large cavern, under the stern gaze of the statues. There footsteps echos slightly in the large space.
You here some rustling of wings, perhaps bat, up among the stalactites in the ceiling.

Caliban Tre'Athkar |

Drawing his sword, Caliban glances upward, "Something, a bat perhaps? is near the ceiling, we should be watchful."
Caliban then steps a few feet away from Kloss, giving the Teifling room to swing his greataxe.

Suryani Chaitanya |

Suryani whispers a few words, causing her holy symbol to start shedding a soft golden light. Her knuckles whiten on the grip of her scimitar as she says with a shaky voice. "Bats? But they're small and harmless, aren't they?"

Kloss |

Dragons have bat wings. kloss adds dryly, as do many other types of creatures.
Not to be one who is caught off-guard, Kloss takes his longbow out again.

Caliban Tre'Athkar |

Nodding at Suryani's words, "before yesterday I would always agree with that. But we were assaulted by giant flies. "

Suryani Chaitanya |

Suryani takes out a candle that she places at the foot of the statues, she lights it, and murmurs a short prayer. After getting up, the young woman draws her blade, although it does little to temper her already frayed nerves. "Let's get out of here, this place is making me feel uneasy," she says, nodding towards the eastern end.

Most of the party is aware but unable to react in time as a pair of creatures fall from the cavern roof, gliding toward Kloss and Caliban. They have black fleshy wings between their spiked tentacles, looking like some sort of cross between a bat and an octopus.
Caleb sees them and is on his feet before they can reach their targets. They hang in the air 30ft above his head, far out of melee range.

Being the quickest one on his feet, Caleb charges out as soon as the winged creatures fly down from the ceiling at Kloss and Caliban. Kloss dmg: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Kloss swings his great axe with relish at the creature he and Caleb share and slices off the tips of a few tentacles - which fall to the ground, twisting and turning - as the beast continues to fly through the air. Sioned moves to Caliban and tries to defend him, but not wanting to accidentally harm her friend the blow is unsure and misses.

Kloss turns back to the creature that's haranguing him. He slashes at it again but it still flaps in the air in front of him hungrily.
Sioned manages to free herself from the tentacled beast, but is not out of trouble yet. Caliban wakes up enough to stand, and moves to protect her, but his spell fizzles out before it can do damage.
Suryani lends strength to Caleb and the paladin strikes a might blow with his trusty sword against the injured creature. He clips a wing in twain and slices off the rest of the tentacles on one side. The creature plummets to the ground, slain.
Battered and angry the remaining monster tries to continue it's feast on Sioned. She deftly dodges out of the way of it's uncoordinated attack. Anevia takes this opportunity to fire her bow into the melee, and Sioned feels the wind of the arrow whip past her ear. The party's luck has changed! Kloss moves on to the last remaining creature and slices it with his ax. Sioned joins him and lands a good hit herself. Caliban, sorely missing his weapon, steps over to the side and retrieves it off the ground, readying himself for what may be coming next.
Continuing the whirlwind of attacks, Suryani cuts the beast fatally, but the group isn't done yet. Caleb - always the crowd-pleaser - finishes it off in style, blasting bits of tentacle in everyone's direction with a great cleave from his sword. (Technically, it may have already been dead in the air, but there is no way it's coming back now.)
