For Elven, you don't actually use Tolkien's Elven? There are lots of websites out there that you can translate. I did most of an RP fully in Elven one time. That being said: I'm Michael, gaming for 21 or so years, started with 2nd Edition in the early 90s. Worked in the industry at a shop and then in CCG development for a few years, on the side. Husband first, Father second, Restaurant Manager somewhere after gamer. My hours are odd, so I will either be fully available and capable of spam posting like tonight OR spend 12 hours unreachable, then come home and crash for 5, only to get up and do it again.
Marik Whiterose |
I had a bad experience with one of the elvish sites, I couldn't get it to translate entire phrases. If you know of a good one then let me know and we'll use that one for Elvish and keep Gaelic for Sylvan. Bing translate has a Klingon setting, except that Paizo's boards don't accept the Klingon wingdings.

Also, I should ask: How is everyone with the Caravan Rules? I, personally, have never used them before, so I have no real preference whether we use them or not.
Masamune Mitsuhide |
Same here never heard, or used them before this recruitment.
Marik Whiterose |
Welcome all,
My name is Mike (Michael when I was in trouble and when it was Michael Patrick, then I ran and hid). I live in Schaumburg, a northwest suburb of Chicago. I'm 48 years old (I just celebrated my 30th High School reunion last night and it took me most of today to recover), married with a lovely eight year old daughter. I've worked for American Airlines since 1985 and I generally have ample time to set up my laptop at work and check the boards or to surf the web when I'm bored. About 80% on my posting takes place when I'm at work, then again after 9:00 after Sarah goes to bed (except on Monday nights). I've been playing D&D in all it's incarnations (except 4th Edition) since the mid-late 70's and still game with some of my friends from High School on Monday's (hence the lack of postings on Monday nights). I look forward to running what I hope you will find an exciting well run adventure.

I just spent the last hour playing with Roll20, setting up my own game that I'm going to be running. Thanks indeed, it's pretty easy to build up. Working on a S&S game, myself.
Jacen "Ash" Teleris |
He checked in on the recruitment forum after you gave us the info. Though that was about 6 hours or so ago.
Piper Hemlock |
Sorry I'm late. I had to work. To clear a couple of things: Marik, I'll get a Roll20 account as soon as I can. EDIT: Just got it.
@Sharrd and everyone else. To answer your question, Sharrd, it shouldn't be too obvious that Piper likes Ameiko. To explain Piper's past, Piper and Ameiko have been best friends since they were young. They were always seen together, so much so that the townsfolk would joke that they were "attached at the hip" and were "practically married already". This closeness got more noticeable after Piper's incident. When Piper turned 17, he left Sandpoint for Absalom to join the White Grotto (mentioned in Inner Sea Magic, although I'm retconning it so that it's a bardic school rather than a guild, as it was mentioned in the book; also for a uniform, I'm using what the example image of a White Grotto student in the book wears as a uniform for the school, since Inner Sea Magic hardly goes into any detail). He left to become better at his art and (secretly) to become more worthy to Ameiko. If you want more details, you can read his profile.
@Players. So whether or not you know Piper is like this:
Alara: Maybe you've seen him, but most likely not, since from what I'm reading in your backstory, I'm getting the impression that you've only recently come to Sandpoint. Maybe I'm wrong and you've seen and/or met him before his five year journey.
Sharrd, William, Masamune, and Ash: You've most likely seen him (maybe even met him and are friends with him) since you're Sandpoint residents. Maybe Koya healed Piper after his incident with his birth father. Again, this fact is for all of you to determine yourselves.
Sorry for being long winded, just wanted to clear this up. Now, for my actual post. I'll go into detail of his arrival home.
As the caravan stops in the small town, Piper looks around with a smile on his face. 'It's been a long time,' he thinks to himself. He makes his way to the Rusty Dragon, straightening his uniform as much as he can. He stops at the door, mustering his courage and trying to calm himself to make the blush less noticeable. Taking a deep breath, he enters the bar. He looks around, seeing some odd characters, a few looking somewhat familiar. He walks past them as the elven woman is trying to catch a light with her hand, shaking his head and laughing silently. He slowly walks to Ameiko and gets her attention, taking notice of the changes that she's gone through in the last five years. 'By Shelyn, she's even more beautiful, if that's even possible,' he thinks. (I'm assuming that Ameiko is helping run the bar right now.)
Also, I want to clarify that Piper has one noticeable feature: the scar that goes across his throat.
Also: I'm Joe. 22 years old. I'm a Digital Media Technology student at the nearby technical college. Interested in tabletop RPGs since late middle school/early high school. Started with a game of D&D 3.5 at the end of 3.5 and the start of 4.0. Eventually moved to 4.0 in senior year of high school. After graduation, became interested in Pathfinder, but didn't know where to start for a group. Eventually, I made my way here. I work at a local grocery store on the weekends, so it might be awkward. I attend classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and (starting in October) Mondays from 12:30 pm to 4:20 pm. But I arrive at the school at 8 in the morning. I also have sports after school on Tuesdays. I just want to let you guys know if I'm not contributing on Roll20, it's probably because of work, school, sports, or something else. I apologize if this inconveniences the game. I'll do my best and keep you guys updated.
William Drak |
I'm Garrett, 19 years old. I was a college student at Valencia in Orlando but then Finical Aid ran out so I'm not attending. I don't have a car and the nearest bus stop is 7 miles away from where I live so no job... I'm currently mooching off of my parents until I lose enough weight to get into the Air Force (yes they have a max. weight that someone has to be and I'm over it by 20 lbs. Well not right now but when I first asked to join I was. I think I'm over it by 9 lbs. now and it wasn't easy losing all that weight. But that is my short term goal, get into the Air Force so I don't feel like a waste of human life. I got into table top RPG's my Sophomore year in High School with some friends who asked if I wanted to play a game that is like DnD. (Turned out to be this one).
Masamune Mitsuhide |
I'm Joseph, 18 years old. Currently going to college at ISU. I have classes 9-10 (am), 1-2 (pm), 2-4 (pm) Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and a lab from 4-6(pm) every other Monday next week being when I have it next. I have only one class on Tuesday from 9-10 (am), and two classes on Thursday 9-10 (am), 3-4 (pm). I usually have access to a computer at any of those times between classes, except on Wednesdays. If I am missing on Roll20 it is usually that I'm studying, or in a test. Weekends I'm open Saturday, and Sunday.
Sharrd |
I'm Roger. I'm 52 years old and work for Wal-Mart. I have a pretty early shift and am pretty busy so will not be able to post from work. I'm a bit of a physics nerd. I've been playing DnD since the 70's. I also run a Tuesday game.
Alara Dawnchaser |
I'm John, 22 years old and due for graduation from Saint Mary's University with a B.Sc in Psychology on October 18-19th. I'm available whenever you need me. I have several months of tabletop gaming experience, but I've spent most of my time with CRPGs. Finally, Pathfinder & 2nd Edition are my favorite tabletop games!
@Piper: In all likelihood, Alara's never met Piper at any point. This is pretty much her first time in 46 years that she's ever left Kyonin, and she only just got to town.
Piper Hemlock |
I'm assuming that this will take place after Piper's reunion with Ameiko.
Piper turns to William, recongnizing his voice. Piper smiles and heads to the group. As he heads towards you, he pulls out a small, portable chalkboard and a piece of chalk from a pouch on his backpack, writing on it. When he gets to the table, he gives the chalkboard to William. It says: 'William Drak. It's been five long years since we've seen each other. You've certainly changed since then. Last time I saw you, you're just that excitable young boy who barely came to my waist, always following me and Ameiko, having long conversations with Sandru, writing in your notebook, and saying that you would be the greatest warrior in Varisia. I have been well. I just got back home. How have you been? I see that things have changed in Sandpoint. Dad must have reinstated the goblin bounty. How bad has it gotten that the bounty must have been imployed?' After William reads it, Piper takes the chalkboard back, taking out a rag and wiping off the writing.
Turning to Ash, he writes on the board and holds it out to Ash. It reads: 'How are you, Jacen? Have your hands gotten any better? Is Madam Mvashti any better than the last time I saw her?'
Once again wiping off the board, he turns to Sharrd and, with a look of confusion, writes down: 'I'm having difficulty remembering, but aren't you Lil' Sharrd? You have certainly grown since I've last seen you.'
While wiping off the board, he notices that elven woman. With his eyebrow raised, he looks over the woman. After a few seconds, he writes on the board. Giving it to her, it reads in perfect elven.
I can't seem to find any elven language translators that work in successfully translating my sentences. Some words do get into elven. But the others read as ["???"]. Any help there?
Alara Dawnchaser |
Alara arches her eyebrows in surprise at the Elven words. A very happy grin appears on her face and she replies:
"Dia duit! Is é mo ainm Alara. Tá sé áthas orm bualadh leat!"
I settled on Irish for Elven.
Alara Dawnchaser |
Alara winces at the mention of goblins, but her expression turns wistful at the mention of Shalelu.
"Yeah, she's been doing an amazing job..."
A small smile settles on her face.
Piper Hemlock |
@William
Looking at William, Piper nods, a small but solemm smile on his face. Writing on the board, he turns it to William. It says: 'Aye. But I wish that I didn't come home to where we needed the bounty.'
@Alara
Silently chuckling, Piper sits down at the table. Taking the board back, he writes: 'A áthas orm bualadh leat chomh maith, mo daor. Caithfidh mé a admháil go bhfuil do wardrobe is suimiúla. Cá bhfuil tú ó agus cad a dhéanann tú a cheangal ar an trealamh den sórt sin?'
Seeing Alara's reaction to Shalelu, Piper's eyebrow raises as he looks at her body language.

Alara blushes as Piper asks his questions.
"Thiocfaidh mé ó thír an Kyonin. Tá mé ina iarrthóir de ... rúin. Níos mó nó níos lú."

Piper raises his eyebrow as he gazes at Alara, but decides to drop the questions he has. 'Everyone's entitled to their own secrets.' he thinks to himself.
Sharrd |
Sharrd listens to Alara speaking elvish. He hated learning languages, it had taken him forever to learn Draconic and he hated to say he knew a few phrases of Abyssal, but these weren't languages you used to impress women. He felt a twinge of jealousy towards Piper, but what the hell, he gets another beer and passes it to Piper. "Yep, I'm the Sharrd that you had to carry home after I hit that hornet's nest with the rock. It's nice to see you again."
Piper Hemlock |
@Sharrd
Looking at Sharrd, Piper chuckles and places his hand on Sharrd's shoulder. He writes: 'Good to see you again, Sharrd. How have the last five years been treating you?' As he accepts the beer, he frowns slightly, but shrugs his shoulders and drinks. 'May not be tea, but one drink shouldn't hurt me.'
Sharrd |
"Pretty good, I've got a job here, although I'm looking for something that will get me out of Sandpoint. Oh, and I've learned some magic" A quick word in draconic with a gesture and he creates a glowing image of sleeping red dragon about six inches long in front of him.
Prestidigitation
Piper Hemlock |
At Sharrd's magic display, Piper smiles and writes: 'So have I.' He then performs a quick gesture himself. His finger then makes a pattern and a silver, glittering image of a treble clef appearing.
Prestidigitation. Not trying to show you up, Sharrd.

Wow! 94 posts in less than a day. I think this is one of the fastest PbP's I've been in. Let me know when you're ready to move on to the next day.

And those 94 posts have been character development and building camaraderie among the team. Signs of good players right here. Also Marik, I thought we would do a pm session. Also, according to the books, one piece of chalk is used up after each day. Will you be enforcing this rule or will it be magic chalk that never diminishes? Because I bought 50 days worth of chalk.
Jacen "Ash" Teleris |
My level of access varies day to day. Today I had none and still won't have much because, like Sharrd, Tuesday is my tabletop game.
Alara Dawnchaser |
Understandable. No worries!
Incidentally, I'll be unavailable on Wednesdays from 7-10 PM. I'm GMing a tabletop game as well.

Question on languages. Is Minakian, and Tien the same languages, or different languages.
Marik Whiterose |
Minkaian
Minkaian, sometimes called 'Minkan', is spoken in the Minkai Empire as the native language of the Tian-Min peoples. The language is related to Tien (see below), and is also very widely spoken in Tian Xia, especially the northern and central regions of that continent including, particularly, Jinin, Shokuro, Chu Ye, and Wanshou.
Tien (Common)
This complex language is spoken by the Tian people from regions of the once great Imperial Lung Wa; its use is so prevalent it is often referred to as Common within Tian Xia region. It contains nearly 24,000 pictographs and is a tonal language with thousands of homophones.
Jacen "Ash" Teleris |
Minkan is Japanese, Tien is Chinese from the way I understand everything.
Masamune Mitsuhide |
I didn't know if they were the same, or different language, but I wanted to have both for sure.
William Drak |
Yeah, the written language of Japanese was based off of Chinese. I don't know if this still holds true today but Kanji (the traditional written form of both languages) originated in China and as the Chinese expanded into Japan (very early on in its history) they brought with them this language.
Like I said I can't say for sure if it is true today (Mandarin vs Higarana) but they were at one point in time one written language.

If I'm going to be keeping a journal for this campaign, what date would the campaign have started on?
Okay. According to James Jacobs in this thread, the basic idea is that each Adventure Path takes about 6 months. In terms of history, we are in the Age of Lost Omens. According to this site, the start of Kingmaker takes place in 4710 AR. Now, if we take the 6 months thing as truth, that would mean that from RotRL to KM would be about 3 years. So, RotRL started in 4007 AR. The events of Seprent's Skull & Carrion Crown would be another year. Now, since Marik said 5 years, we can assume that the Inner Sea had rare moment of peace for another year before Jade Regent starts. So from my calculations, it would be 4712 AR.
