Like I said, it's a back-up plan. Just in case. I'm alright with waiting for Marik, too. But it's nice to cover your bases.
On a side note, I was visiting my brother at UW Madison on Friday. We went to the mall and at the Barnes & Noble, I got a copy of Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition! In one of the appendices is a map of Sandpoint, with all of the locations and important citizens. This is going to come in handy. I can also add more flavor context, like Belor being romantically involved with Kaye Tesarani, proprietor of the Pixie's Kitten, a brothel. Didn't know that. Also, apparently, hardened criminals would be sent to Magnimar for trial. So I got to come up with a reason why Vincent is still in Sandpoint. Also, going to make Piper and Alara's date kind of easier.
Masamune Mitsuhide |
I think we should wait till monday, and if by then he hasn't said anything then we should look for a new GM.
Alara Dawnchaser |
Then we apologize and move along, I suppose. I don't like doing this either, but I would really like to get going again.
Piper Hemlock |
From what I seen, we can post a new thread looking for a new GM. In the Online Campaign section of the messageboards, there is a small part where it instructs you on what to do if you inherited a play-by-post game. So, in theory, it should work.
Piper Hemlock |
Guys, I've given it some thought and I think we should wait until the end of the year. It doesn't seem fair to kick Marik out tomorrow due to some personal problems that are outside of his control. What do you think?
Piper Hemlock |
You know, guys. I've been thinking (I've got to stop doing that) and I've decided that I don't want to replace Marik. I'm with Ash on this. I'm waiting for Marik for as long as it takes. Again, I'm not kicking him out do to outside forces beyond his control.
Alara Dawnchaser |
I've PMed Marik, asking how he's been and whether he'd like us to find a temporary GM or wait for him to come back.
Now I'm just waiting for him to reply, if at all. I'm hoping that everything that's happening to him hasn't caused him to forget about us.
Alara Dawnchaser |
I'll likely give him two weeks while waiting for a reply. That, I think, is an acceptable length of time to wait.
Piper Hemlock |
I'm still on the side of waiting for him (at least until after the holidays, when people aren't so busy), but if it comes to the point where we need to find a new GM then I'll go with it.
Alara Dawnchaser |
I've taken a look at the other campaign he's running (Skull & Shackles), and that group put out a call for a new GM. They got someone new.
I'm still going to wait until December 2nd (2 weeks from my PM) before making a decision about looking for a new GM, though.
Alara Dawnchaser |
We didn't really do much with it, I think. We didn't get into a combat situation and if it comes down to it, a new GM can probably fix up a new map for us to use.
Piper Hemlock |
In other news, new tracks for the playlist!
Alara's Apology - Underwater Secrets from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire soundtrack (just the beginning)
Masamune's Past & Lessons of Tian - Beautiful Blade from Shogun 2: Total War soundtrack
Alara's Past - Sakura from Shogun 2: Total War soundtrack
Piper Hemlock |
Thanks, Alara. Happy Belated Canadian Thanksgiving to you!
At Duty's question, Piper gives him a plate of apples stacked in the shape of a turkey.
Alara Dawnchaser |
Alara smiles her bright, sunny smile. She ruffles Duty's mane playfully before giving Piper a quick peck on the cheek.
"Thanks!"
Piper Hemlock |
After Alara's thanks, Piper wraps his arms around her waist, standing on the tips of his toes and gives her a quick peck on the lips and smiling at her. :D Because, you know, 7 inch height difference.
BTW, why is Canada's Thanksgiving in October? Also, Canada has a Thanksgiving?
Also, random thought: I think it would be awesome if our new possible GM could do a pure RP side campaign with us focused on... CHRISTMAS!! Or any other major holidays! How awesome would that be?! Possible new items?! Role play?! What do you think?
Also, do you think our new possible GM would be willing to play through the date? That would take some time.
Also, the new additions to the playlist. What do you think?
Alara Dawnchaser |
Yep, Canada does have a Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October. It dates back to Canada's early settlement days.
It's in October probably because it's that time of year when you bring the harvest in.
I'm already picturing a whole slew of Christmas-based shenanigans Alara & Piper could get up to: snowball fighting, pranking everyone else with well-placed pieces of mistletoe, maybe even a snowman or two!
I've already got something lined up for the Valentine's Day equivalent in Golarion... :)... =O_O= THAT came out sounding more suggestive than I wanted.
With regards to the date, we could let the GM know that we can use flex time to roleplay it out while keeping the story moving forward for the rest of the players.
On the topic of the playlist choices: I rather like them!
Piper Hemlock |
I didn't know that. I learned something new about Canada today. The more you know, am I right? :)
I can imagine Piper & Alara trying to prank with mistletoe. But they wind up under said mistletoe. Some of these things could probably be done later in the campaign. I haven't played the campaign, but I get the general idea of it.
HA! I wonder when Golarion's Valentine's Day is and if we would get to that day in the campaign. I'm also wondering what your plans are for this? >:)
About the date, I'm wondering if the GM would be willing to play the NPCs.
Thanks for the comment on the playlist additions.
Also, random thought: I was watching this when it got to Final Fantasy 6. I just imagine later in the campaign that Piper falls off of a snowy cliff and having to go Metal Gear or The Last of Us. Wandering around, rationing, sneaking or killing barbarians and ninjas, and running from a yeti.
Another random thought: I do have PDFs of Jade Regent (and I'm not metagaming). But even if I didn't, I would get the same thought. And that thought is on the treasure. The treasure in this campaign seems to be geared towards the eastern classes. However, the other classes can make use of the treasure. But it seems to be me that bards would get the short end of the stick. Now, I'm not saying that I regret my class choice. I think there are a few items that bards can use, but not much. Any thoughts on this? Any advice?
Alara Dawnchaser |
Indeed! :)
Yeah, such a scenario would be plausible with Alara. She'd set mistletoe up somewhere, then get distracted and forget about it (Hooray for 8 Wisdom! XD). Piper, however, would not forget about it. Hell, he'd probably lure Alara underneath it himself, the sly little charmer.
Regarding Golarion's Valentine's Day, what Alara would have in mind would be... giving Piper chocolates she made herself. Considering where she (culturally) comes from, it's a big deal for her.
The romantic date night associated with Valentine's Day would instead, for her, be on Golarion's Christmas Eve. ;)
With regards to treasure & bards, you could always dip into crafting your own magic items if you want. The Core Rulebook's Bard spell list has a pretty good selection of spells that bards can use to craft items. Do you have the Ultimate Equipment sourcebook?
Piper Hemlock |
On the mistletoe, maybe Piper would lead her. Or maybe he would forget. WHO KNOWS?! ;)
Okay, I definitely want to know when Golarion Christmas and Valentine's Day is. Anyone know the answer to this?
What do you think about the GM controlling the NPCs for the date?
I can imagine Alara going to Piper, chocolates in hand. She says, "Piper-kun, I made these just for you. I'm sorry if they're brunt. I poured all of my love into them." XD I'm just wondering if Piper should give a gift back. My expectations are... yes.
What do you think about my Metal Gear Piper idea? I'm just sad beecause I know it will never happen.
I always associated item crafting with wizards or sorcerers. But I can see a bard doing it. I do have the Ultimate Equipment sourcebook. It's just that I don't think there would be many rapiers as loot or to buy as we head north. Not to mention I don't think we would be staying in towns for long. So my weapon options would be somewhat limited. Nor are there magical instruments (besides eastern focused ones).

I think it'd be just fine.

And Alara would wrap the chocolates in a cute little package and a neat little bow. :)
Of course, she'd also get the rest of the team chocolates. Store-bought ones, and not the cheap stuff either.

Oh, don't be so sure. Our new GM may just grow attached to that idea... >:)
It certainly sounds like a good reason for Alara to teach Piper how to be sneaky! :)

You could ask William for help with crafting rapiers & stuff...

Piper wrote:What do you think about the GM controlling the NPCs for the date?I think it'd be just fine.
Okay. I just thought that if the GM controlled the NPCs, it gives us another person to play with and that we don't have to do it ourselves (making it seem like a bit of work) and we aren't GMs so we have little experience with controlling NPCs.

Sounds adorable. I also started threads in three different Paizo messageboards asking about the equivalent of Christmas and Valentine's. I got some response but not much. If you can find the answer, then please let me know.

Sounds fun. The GM would probably need to make the monsters, challenges, and skill checks weaker due to being the only PC. The GM would also need to allow Piper to find plenty of items to survive in the cold. Also, could be a good way to find some personal magic items. :D

I asked William earlier in game and he said that I would be better off buying stuff. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to wait until we get later in the campaign before bringing this up again. Sound good?

From what I've seen on the Pathfinder Wiki, Golarion's equivalent of Christmas would be Crystalhue. It happens during the winter solstice in the month of Kuthona (Golarion's December).
Valentine's Day (or its equivalent, barring the month) would be the Ritual of Stardust. It's bi-annual, and celebrated on the summer solstice in the month of Sarenith (Golarion's June), and on the winter solstice.

Like an enchanted box with a persistent Sanctuary effect as long as it isn't moving? :)

Alright. This sounds good. Now, all we gotta do is hope we get to those days in the campaign. We might since we would be on the road for, what, months?

Yeah, that might be something. Other things would be like magic boots that help trek across snow, items with Endure Elements spell effect or give bonuses to Survival checks or help with trekking across snow and mountains. Things that help with hunting for food. Potions that help with those prevously mentioned things or provide healing. Miscellaneous valuable items. Maybe allowing Piper to go through an old bardic crypt and find more bard focused equipment. You know, that kind of fun stuff. :)

All right. Who knows? I might still be able to buy weapons and items that I, as a bard, still might be able to use. Like magic rapiers, magic armor, or magic flutes!

Certainly, but it also depends in which month we get on the road. We're in Gozran right now (Golarion's April), so it's entirely possible that Alara will insist on celebrating the Ritual of Stardust before too long! :)

Okay. Awesome! My question is: when is the summer and winter solstices in Golarion?
By the way, if I can list my own criteria on a new GM, I would like:
- friendly
- helpful
- experienced
- willing to allow us to be immersive
- can make the campaign feel unique (from adding 3rd party content from Legendary Games to crafting own ideas)
- willing to aid us in any unique flex time that we come up with
Those are just some of my own thoughts.

I'd imagine the dates would be the same as their real-world counterparts.

I'd agree with you on your criteria.
Speaking of new GMs, our old one has not replied to my PM, and the 2 weeks have passed. I think I'll post that we're in need of a new GM in the Recruitment thread.
Piper Hemlock |
You also might want to post in another messageboard as well, to get more exposure and increase our chances. Again, just a thought.
Alara Dawnchaser |
Well, I'm sold on our prospective new GM. What do the rest of you think of him?
His style of GMing is posted here.
Masamune Mitsuhide |
Are you talking about Vanulf Wulfson, or someone else?
Piper Hemlock |
Someone else. For some reason, the link isn't working correctly. Check here.
Piper Hemlock |
I'm on board. I just have class until 4:20 pm. But I'm sure I can still check in. Are we using the Roll20.net setup? Or will it just be through the messageboards?
