As you enter the Outward Inn you see it's a pretty big building.
Currently it's rather empty inside and after meeting with the owner Sariannashe explains that the inn has 10 rooms, though it is rare for more than four to be occupied at any one time. Local musicians and storytellers often visit the main floor and basement tavern in the evenings, performing for coppers at the smaller, more intimate gatherings.. Although now retired, she was once a singer of some repute and her voice remains strong and beautiful to hear.

After hearing that Razagal wants to sing she's glad to hear him audition and if he makes the cut he can show up in the evening and perform and see if the people who'll visit will offer up some coins if the like the performance.

A Perform check to see if you are deemed good enough to b let on stage please

Scarab Sages

I'm assuming that you want to leave here and not wait for the evening _if_ you manage to succeed at the audition, otherwise there isn't even a reason to stick around.

After the audition you make your way outside you see;

A group of five little girls dressed in shawls and dresses are playing a skipping rope game at the side of the road. Each of the girls takes turns jumping in the rope while singing two lines of a rather disturbing song, then skips out of the rope to let the next girl take up the next two lines. The way in which the girls switch from skipping to passing the ends of the rope to each other to keep the whole thing going is strikingly well timed and well choreographed—and the verse itself, which the girls sing is rather disturbing. The five repeating verses are as follows:

"Put her body on the bed.
Take a knife and lop her head.
Watch the blood come out the pipe.
Feeds the stirge, so nice and ripe.
Drops of red so sparkly bright.
Splatters spell her name just right.
With a hammer killed his wife.
Now he wants to claim your life.
Tricksy father tells a lie.
Listen close or you will die."

If you talk to the children:
They immediately stop playing and stand quietly and nervously—they’ve been well schooled by their parents to avoid talking to strangers.

Diplomacy check to get the kids to relax, you can get various bonuses for how you approach that

After listening to Sarianna sing, Razagal chooses something in the same vein - an old, slightly melancholy song his mother taught him a long time ago. He picked the song to show his vocal range, but unfortunately it brings memories of his mother and he chokes up halfway during the performance.

Razagal tries to convince the owner:
"My.. my apologies. Sometimes old hurts and feelings can sneak up on you when you least expect it. I promise I can do better, if you just give me a chance."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Feeling sober and a bit melancholy, Razagal leaves the inn and listens to the eerie song. He greets the children and smiles at them.
"Why hello there. No need to be afraid.. I was just intrigued by the game you played and the song you were singing. I am a traveling bard, you know, so songs are my specialty and passion.

Can you teach me your song and tell me what it is about? In return I will sing for you all.. Any song you want to hear. That's a fair trade, isn't it?"

When Razagal asks where Tom has been he answers him:

I've been taking a stroll around the building, lots of references to Pharasma, but nothing special. If we really need to go up against some necromancer cult they could be a potential ally since they hate the undead almost as much as me. Oh and the people here always show their respect by drawing this symbol when they enter holy sites of Pharasma like the graveyard.

Tom draws a spiral on his chest to illustrate the symbol.

I'm fine with going to the inn, but is playing for some money really the most urgent thing at the moment? With potentially deathly undead roaming around? I must say I agree with Radha, primary goal should be staking out the jail and then get some information from the priest.

Tom then walks silently thinking with the party till they encounter some children singing.

Well that is a lovely song for young children,

Scarab Sages

After hearing Razagal perform Sarianna politely mentions that it isn't the worst performance she has ever heard and to be nice she will allow Razagal to get onto stage and show off his skills...after midnight a few days from now..when everyone who will attend will most likely be drunk already and not care that much about the quality of the "entertainment" being offered...she will get back with an formal response...if she can get to it, sometime later.

Sense motive DC 10:
She's true to her word, but it's not very high on her list of priorities..so if she remembers it she will set a time and date..but if something better comes up she might have to be reminded about it.

-----------------------------------

Razagal seems better in talking to small girls then in getting a paying gig and after he starts to talk to the girls he manages to get their attention long enough for them to suppress their initial reaction of fleeing with the promise of a song for them

" ..do you know the song about the wizard and the knob on his staff? I heard my mommy tell my daddy once that he wasn't to sing it around me..and I want to know what it is.."

They repeat the song so you can learn to sing it as well if you want

" ..it’s just something the children here in Ravengro have sung “forever"

"Maybe we can take a quick look at the Prison. Just to see what to expect. I'd rather wait till the actual scouting untill we spoke with Father Grimburrow. And maybe he can give us some appropriate supplies. It is good to know we have some possible allies here in the village. The way the locals are treating us, I wouldn't have expected it."

While singing and dancing he gauges the reactions of the girls as well as any bystanders, hoping that his voice will carry enough to reach Sarianna and make her reconsider his talent.

After the song is finished, he bows with a florish and smiles at the children.

At the mention of the prison he frowns in thought.
"Well, I'm not very eager to go there but there isn't much we can do here right now and there's still plenty of daylight. Taking a peek won't hurt.. so lead the way! I will be right behind you."

Scarab Sages

The girls giggle

"You're funny"

They then give you a hug and skip off

-----------------------------------------------

As you decide to go take a closer look at the prison you find it's actually a nice walk..the temperature is a bit chilly and the wind might just be a bit too strong as it's tugging at your clothes but the activity itself it's nice. The only ominous sign is a crow you can hear in the distance.

Harrowstone is located on a barren hill south of the city of Ravengro, the stark, sagging roof of its central structure visible through a large gap in the surrounding wall. A partially overgrown track leads from the southern edge of town, winding around the base of the hill and then back up along its southern slope to the prison itself.

As you near your destination and have your first look of the prison the hairs on the back of your neck stand on edge...and in Radha's case it feels as if her facial hair is actively trying to pull her away and preventing her from moving forward as it seems to crawl across her cheeks.

Scarab Sages

As you stand on the road taking in the view a gust of wind blows against some nearby plants and causes some pollen to hit you in the face which causes Razagal and Tom to sneeze..Radha isn't effected because of the scarf covering her nose and mouth.

Scarab Sages

You hear a noise some distance away and when you look to see what's causing it you see a raven pick at something and when it notices you are watching it it takes of into the air while cawing in your general direction.

perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26Hey, what's that? That almost looks like a.. skull?

Razagal shivers as he looks at the raven taking off.

He mutters under his breath "You take me to the nicest places.."

He turns to his companions and says:
"Well, there's the dungeon you wanted to see. Better get moving, it will be dark in a few hours and I really don't want to be in there at night."

He pauses briefly, then adds:

"Can you guys make out what that raven was pecking at? It almost seems like a human skull.. with some meat still on it."

Scarab Sages

When you get closer you notice that the skull was indeed picking at a piece of bone with some meat still left on it. It's unclear if it's been a human skull at some point though it's certainly a possibility.

As you continue to move closer you start to pick up more details as well as a chill that runs down your spine and leaves you shivering.

Harrowstone’s grounds are contained within a crumbling stone wall, the eastern portion of which has fallen away into a huge sinkhole that formed when the extensive eastern wing of the prison collapsed.

A sagging wood and metal gate set between a pair of stone guard towers once barred entrance into Harrowstone, but the gates now hang negligently open, creaking softly in what wind touches the ruined bars.

To the west of the gate there are still 2 guard towers visible in the wall. They are old stone towers, their wooden roof collapsed and its crumbling walls thick with ivy, extends a further ten feet above the twenty foot- high wall.

Looking through the gate you see a small brick manor house which is overgrown with thick sheets of gray-green ivy. The roof sags ominously, and the front door hangs askew.

Past a tree in the center of the yard you get a view of the actual prison building.

A two-story stone building looms in the center of the prison grounds. Ivy and moss cling tenaciously to the walls, while above the wooden shingles of the roof are often missing entirely, exposing the wooden rafters of the upper structure to the sky. Here and there, leering stone gargoyles perch on the eaves, once functioning as drainspouts and decorations but now seeming almost to serve a more ominous role of sentinels.
Many of these stone decorations have crumbled away and lie
in ruined piles on the soggy ground below. Windows in the building’s facade are narrow and blocked by grills of rusty iron bars. Stone columns support a slumping wooden balcony over the building’s wooden front doors, both of which hang askew and reveal dark glimpses of chambers within.

The fire didn’t do much damage to most of the ground floor, save in the northeastern corner, but over the years of neglect, the prison has grown quite moldy and filthy. The walls are stone, and while the majority of the wooden supports are rotten, the building remains relatively sound...as far as you can tell from looking at from a save distance away.

DC 15 Knowledge (engineering) or a DC 20 Perception check reveals:
The balcony doesn't seem it would support a lot if weight ..maybe a small person, but more then that and it might not hold

Scarab Sages

That's everything you can see from standing outside the front gate and looking in..but you feel uncomfortable even from over there, your skin feels like it crawling with tiny insects all over your body.

@Radha; Just to be clear....this is a pretty big building. It used to house a lot of prisoners. Unless you mean the small house in the yard..that's still a normal sized house (squares on the map are 10ft)

As Radha studies what the raven was pecking at it's clear that it's been dead for a while now and since it's only a piece of bone with a little flesh still attached can't tell much about how it died but it could have been any organism, cow, horse human or dog..even a goat...Radha has no clue other then that it's bigger then most birds.

So what's the plan? Take a tour around the walls? Go in? (yard house? Front door? Balcony? Break into a window? Climb onto the roof?) or go back to town?

West side balcony:
A large, rectangular block of stone rests on this weather-beaten stone balcony, while ruined wooden benches line the eastern wall under a row of tiny, barred windows above. A stout wooden door sits in the wall near the northern end of the balcony.

East side balcony;
The northern portion of this balcony has crumbled away into a pile of rubble amid the gently rippling waters of a dark pool of water. Ivy hangs down from the walls in thick, matted lengths, while dense tangles of vines decorated with deep red and violet flowers adorn the balcony’s edges above.

You can't determine how deep this pond is by just looking at it, the water is way to murky, there's no way for you to get a look at the bottom, although there are off course other ways to determine the depths of a body of water other then looking......

Razagal thinks there is a lot he doesn't understand about them but does manage to come to the conclusion that they must have been part of a larger ritual involving both abjuration and necromantic magic but the possible purpose of such a ritual is above his understanding of complex magic such as this.

medicine: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 What's the... !?
Assuming nothing bad happens (what could possibly happen?), Raz will pull Radha back towards the wall and examine her to see if she's still alive. This also means that he'll spot her combination of bushy moustache and breasts.
Whether or not Radha has been able to hold on to her rifle is up to you - Raz has acted more out of a panic and just focuses on getting her to safety.

Scarab Sages

Bad stuff...might happen (we are in initiative)..so you can try to pull Radha away..but that means some sort of check...most logical will be a combat maneuver check to see if (how far) you manage to drag Radha

And if Radha managed to hold on to her rifle depends on is she was wielding it at the time..if she was, it's dropped since she's asleep. If it was holstered somewhere then you drag it along with the rest of her

Out of the corner of your eye can can see some vines slowly creeping towards Radha's lying body and one vine is even making it's way across the edge of her boot and starting to cover the lower part of her leg.

Radha dreams of puppies ...the sad part is that the puppies are being eaten by small fish with razor sharp teeth....

Razagal pulls with all his might (which isn't much but fortunately Radha isn't very large) and desperately tries to drag the softly snoring gnome away from the questing vines.

Scarab Sages

Razagal manages to pull Radha away from the vines starting to crowd her personal space but even though Radha doesn't way that much it's still a heavy burden for Razagal to move

Basically you only manage a 5ft move if you use the drag combat maneuver with that result.

Tom runs over from where he was taking a look at something that caught his eye and as he get's closer and sees Radha unconscious on the ground with some twitching vines crawling around his brow starts to sweat..maybe a horrible flashback to some event from his past is taking place and freezing him on the spot.

The vines continue to crawl forward and all though they don't seem to be capable of much speed they manage to just keep up with the speed at which Razagal is dragging Radha away and continue to creepy crawl their way up Radha's legs and invading even more of her personal space.

Razagal can just make out a sort of sucking noise as the vines seem to pulsate on Radha's body.

In her dream Radha tries to keep the long toothed goldfishes away from her.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Unconsiously she senses something is wrong and tries to wake up. She starts swimming away faster, while being chased by the goldfishes. She spots lands and swims towards it. As she reaches it she crawls exhausted on to it and...

Razagal keeps pulling Radha further away from the pursuing vines when he feels her stirring in his arms. He quickly lets go of her so she can stand up.
"Wake up! Get up! Unless you want to become fertilizer."

He pulls his whip from his waistband while inching further back from the plant.

Sorry, didn't know you were waiting for my action. Figured the plant was first.

As for the situation - has Radha held on to her rifle? Or is it still near the plant? And if so, can I use my whip to pull it closer?

When I entered the house, I carried the gun in my hands, but slung it on my back when I started investigating the skeleton. So it's probably on my back atm.

Scarab Sages

As Razagal pulls his whip and backs away the plant continues it's forward creeping as Radha did get moved back...but not far enough to be out of reach of the slow moving vines.

One of the vines makes it way up past Radha's boots and goes for a very close inspection on what's located inside Radha's right pant leg.

To hit: 1d20 ⇒ 16

The edge of the vine has no problems what so ever touching skin which causes a slight burning sensation and is sure to leave some tissue scarring.

Since we use alternative reasons your AC gives you enough damage reduction to prevent the vine damage..but the acid damage goes through

As the plant's acid bites into Radha's leg, she cries out while grabbing het gun: "Oh m*therf*cker! You're a bloody pile of dust now, you f*cking pile of fertiliser!"
Remember, she grew up near a pirate town

She shoot her blunderbuss right into the 'face' of the plant (after getting a AoO-attack?)

Razagal jumps back from both the foul language and the following billowing cloud of cordite.

He studies the plant intently; he wants to make sure he's outside of the reach of those vines. He's also searching for any sort of brain or nerve cluster that would be vulnerable to his whip or rapier.

perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 C'mon you oversized vegetable, show me your thoughts!

I assume studying the plant will take up my entire round. Raz will back away further until he's certain he's outside of the plant's (assumed/estimated) reach, even if this means he won't be able to attack right now.

Scarab Sages

@Razagal; Using active perception is a move equivalent action as far as I know..so moving away shouldn't be a problem

As Radha starts to unload the full fury of her blunderbuss a stray thought enters her mind

" ...I'm shooting at something attached to my leg with a bunch of pellets...."

Being this close to her target the plant reacts as it strains to get a better hold on Radha's leg as the opening of the blunderbus is brought to bear.

To hit: 1d20 ⇒ 12

and still being on her back as she continues to try to scramble away the vines have little trouble constricting some more.

The plant doesn't seem to have enough strength to get through your though leather pants but the acid continues to burn and the smell your leg is starting to give off doesn't give of a good fortune in your immediate future.

Acid damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2

You went asleep, just remembered that means you went prone..and you crawled (most likely flavor of speech for a 5ft step..which you can't while prone..but who cares) away. So as far as I know you never got up, right? You can still use guns while being prone if I remember correctly..so that should be ok

And even though her shot manages to hit some of the vines most of them pass harmlessly through the gaps between the flowers and the vines and bury themselves into the ground and wall of the prison

Doesn't hit (touch) AC

Razagal studies where to strike best and comes up with just hacking the entire thing to pieces ...for which a rapier isn't the most suited weapon, but might do in a pinch....and doesn't comes up with anything central to hit. It's just a bunch of roots, vines and flowers.

As Razagal fails to find any sort of nerve cluster that would be vulnerable to a piercing attack he decides to stick with his whip.

Freeing Radha seems the most urgent now, so he slashes with his whip at the tendril that's curled around her leg

Whip strike: 1d20 ⇒ 19 With a loud "CRACK" the whip whistles through the air and strikes the tendril.
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 The damage is just temporary, but hopefully it's enough to force the plant to let go.

Can I trip the vine? In this case meaning to force it to let go of Radha?

Actually no, it's not technically holding you..it's sort of just near you and trying to crawl all over you, let's just assume you tried to tumble away without provoking ..and you failed horribly and it didn't take it's AOO....works rules wise and sort of fits the flavor

Quote:
Can I trip the vine?

..normally yes, but this plant (and many plants like it).. does not seems like tripping would do much against it

Seeing as she almost blew her own leg off in her haste, she stands up and tries to get some distance from the vile plant. But fails miserably.

As Radha cracks his whip he manages to hit the plant square in ...the delicate flower? and tears of some petals

The plant in typical plant version continues to turn it's target into mulch by trying to slam down 2 of it's vines

To hit AC: 1d20 ⇒ 20
To confirm: 1d20 ⇒ 13
To hit AC again since I just remembered it has 2 attacks: 1d20 ⇒ 4
