You can cast more than one spell in a round if one of the spells is quickened.
You can use a rod of quicken to do this.
Randtam |
BTW Randtam took Alamin by himself. He is very bummed the Church thought nothing of him.
Maybe that is why he is neutral. Alamin can't say anything anymore.

If you are looking for another 6th level spell, "contingency" could have some interesting uses
Benedict Powd |
Going to change +1 Adamantine/ghost touch/keen/holy dagger (50,000 GP) to just adamantine.
Instead take:
8,000 Ioun stone constant hide from undead
30,000 Ioun stone +1 caster level
8,000 Iouns stone +2 WIS
4,000 Cloak of resistance +2

Hate to be the buzzkill here but your Ioun Stone +2 wisdom won't stack with your headband of wisdom. They are both enhancement bonuses.

See below, against a 12th level caster you would have a 45% chance to resist a spell unless they had feats or magic items that increased their caster level.
Spell resistance (abbreviated SR) is the extraordinary ability to avoid being affected by spells. Some spells also grant spell resistance.
To affect a creature that has spell resistance, a spellcaster must make a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) at least equal to the creature’s spell resistance. The defender’s spell resistance is like an Armor Class against magical attacks. If the caster fails the check, the spell doesn’t affect the creature. The possessor does not have to do anything special to use spell resistance. The creature need not even be aware of the threat for its spell resistance to operate.

Any other ideas? 45% is better than nothing. Or should I bail on the entire idea and purchase a mercenary totally devoted to our team.
Btw that really did not let me know what you think or help me with my decision.
I am dying here. I slow the game all the time, not trying to but I do.
Please give ideas. Spell list sixth level is not that good. Nothing jumps out. Will look at Contingency again. Maybe dragon form.
Randtam wants to add/create wand of greater invisibility. Why you ask?
Randtam knows he walks to his doom. He can't fight his way out of a wet paper sack.
Hopefully the "Champion of Iomede"survives. Or as Randtam knows him "Holy Diver"
Balator |
Spell resistance is awesome, it could totally save you at some point if you fail a save. I don't think you will be using it a lot but when you do it could make the difference between life and death.
Is it the best thing you could get for the gold? I don't know, that might depend a lot on what we end up having to fight.
Randtam |
I have gold left over. How do I keep safe from Undead. A ring? A something or other? I also hate lichens which I might become by the way. Death is coming our way.
Planchette...professor will silver help me n the final battle?.
Benedict Powd |
Fear not brave Randtam! It appears as I also have limited knowledge of how some magical items work.
Trading in Ioun stone +1 caster level 30,000 for +4 breastplate/+4 heavy steel shield. AC now 28.
Balator |
ooc suggestion: Randtam teleport or Benedict wind walk to get us to the destination.
Benedict Powd |
Wind walk was my plan exactly seeing that Randtam has never visited Renchurch and has no real means of scrying the locale. Prepare for DM handwave!
Randtam |
I hold on to the gift that Alamin gave me. I buy the amulet +4 on my own. Randtam cherishes this gift and will not part with it, even though priests of Saranrae snubbed his neutral
Carrion Crown CAW |
@Randtam-Not sure what your motivations are in continuing on besides honoring the Professor's death and your vows to avenge him, ensuring Alamin's death was not in vain, stopping an ancient evil from returning and making life miserable for everyone (including you), and the fact that there aren't hordes of super-powerful good guys just sitting around waiting for trouble.
Come to think of it, YOU guys are supposed to be the super-powerful good guys. Clearly not everyone is stoked to be fighting perilous evil as some (like Benedict) would rather hang out rather than risk life and limb. Hopefully the evil is not too perilous!

Site has been down most of the past couple days, very intermittent access.

Contingency is interesting as a spell. But not sure how to use. Feel I might hurt my friends too. Monstrous Physique IV. Change into something that has defensive capabilities. Could I still cast spells. Dragon form?
Maybe greater Dispel Magic?

I wish I was as excited about my birthdays as I am about Uuranx's leveling up.
Did you get my bday text or did I send it to some random stranger?
Uuranx |
I did get it, thank you very much.
unfortunately, I was the one that was cleaned.
I want to play Game of Thrones Risk!!!
Balator |
Game of Thrones Risk is safer than Vegas!
Randtam |
Randtam attempted to be smart.
Carrion Crown CAW |
Uuranx's action brings up a classic paladinic conundrum-How does one rightly deal with evil prisoners?
This is similar to what do you do with the females and children of defeated humanoid tribes.
I'm for the judge/jury/executioner method that Uuranx so readily displayed.
As a vessel of a god's righteousness they should be able to dispense death as the ultimate judgement for wrongdoing.
What say yea?
Balator |
Kill'em all, evil bastards!
Balator |
The D&D alignment system tends to be a bit simplistic. Being able to detect evil makes it easy to say yep, kill the evil guy.
That is one thing about Game of Thrones that I really enjoy, most of the characters do good and evil things. Is Jaimie Lannister good or evil? How about the Hound, Theon Greyjoy, Cersei Lannister, or even Arya Stark and her oh so satisfying revenge killing of Walder Frey (at least in the tv show). What about Melisandre using blood magic, killing individuals for the "greater good." Of course there are also characters like Joffrey and Ramsay Bolton and the Night King who just seem straight up evil.

Not in 100% agreement here, Jaime just threatened to have Edmund Tully's child killed in order to get him to surrender Riverrun but in doing so he is showing loyalty to his family over his honor which is the same thing he did when he killed the Mad King and when he threw Bran from the tower, the throwing Bran from the tower was much more self-serving. But he did try to keep his word to Caetlyn Stark about saving Sansa and Arya by giving Brienne his sword and sending her after them. But not sure about NG.
Arya had good reason to take down the Frey's after the Red Wedding, and feeding Walden Frey a couple of his kids in a pie was poetic justice according to a fairy tale that is explained in the books that has to do with violating guest right which is what he did during red wedding. I would probably put her as CN.
Funny thing about Ned Stark and his honor and always doing the right thing is that he lied to everyone about Jon Snow being his bastard. But I guess he did it for his sister and to save Jon Snow from being put to death as a potential Targaryen threat to the throne.

Jaime is definitely dicey and I give him the nod more because of how much he loves his family and 'the things he does for love' vs. how nasty and vindictive Cersi is. Threatening a guys kid has a marginal difference vs. blowing up everyone at the Sept. Plus you don't know that he would have followed through? Maybe he was super-bluffing.
I thin Arya's quest for revenge has made her evil. She's an assassin!
Ned honoring his promise to his sister is super LG. It would have been SO much easier for him to tell his wife at least who Snow was.
Top 3 GOT non-primary characters for me:
1. Bron
2. Poderick
3. The Hound
Balator |
The Hound is one my favorite characters even including the main ones. I think Bron and Pod are excellent, especially in the HBO series.
I feel like Doran Martell right now, I have a nasty bout of gout struck me shortly after going to bed snd the pain is rather excruciating, staying asleep for any length of time is impossible.
Balator |
No, my Dad does but I don't like taking anything if I don't have to and my gout only flairs up once in a while. I took some naproxen (aleve) with breakfast and that has knocked it back quite a bit.
