@Nate Lange: My sincerest apologies. My original comment on the Paladin should have been "... if you are playing a Paladin in this campaign, you would thematically be incredibly out of place worshipping any other deity, as pretty much all Paladins in Talingarde are Knights of Alerion, in service of Mitra.
@Sundakan: I still prefer people go with the stat array I gave. If you remember; WotW villains have focus and foible. I kind of wanted to keep true to that original concept for the campaign. The point buy I offered will give you overall worse stats, but more customization over them. I want to say yes to the Warlord class, I do I do I do, but in all honesty, I have to reject this, as well almost all third party content. This is less of a 'balance' issue and more of a fairness issue and a 'I don't have time to learn new sets of rules' issue. I feel like if I allow a single 3rd party class from a text, then I'd need to make all feats/skills/classes/archetypes/etc... from that same text available to all players, who could be long done creating their characters. I should rename myself DM Killjoy :)
Loving the themed party idea. I'm going to keep recruitment open until the 25th.

cool you decided to run this. So PBP and not on Roll20. That is cool. I'm home sick today but will try and get something up this weekend or monday. How long is recruitment?
Recruitment is open until next Thursday, you have time. I decided to go with a PBP, but I'm also running this on roll20.net for my online friends that I play League of Legends with. They're all new to Pathfinder, so it's my trial run for the campaign. Meaning you guys get the better version ^_^ So far it's going very well.

OK so I've built out all the crunch for my Elf Fighter/Wizard, who will be working towards the Duelist PrC. Currently I'm set up with a bonded object rapier, which should make the lack of 'Good' items or the automatic bonus progression a little smoother.
I see this character being NG, but I'll be working out the rest of fluff over the weekend, so I'll update it at some point before recruitment closes on Thursday. Good luck everyone!

The GM said no eastern flavored classes... Are monks ok?
If so, another potential group theme could be a gentlemen's pugilist club... like a fancy Victorian fight club- everyone would be part brawler or monk, or an archetype like sacred fist warpriest, esoteric magus, or enlightened paladin. We could sit around drinking brandy in big leather chairs and occasionally fight each other in matches with way too many rules, but when chaos threatens our fair city we take to action...

Lol Nate! Here's my idea: we could be just bards. An entire musical band... Hehe.
I think, however, any of these ideas (even the "fight club") could actually be just the front to what we actually are: a group of bounty hunters, trying to retrieve escapees from Talingarde.
I don't know. I like the "group theme" thing too :)

I would be all over this if I could play as one of those intelligent polar bears. Maybe a cub?
I'm sure the base creature would be ridiculous for a level 3 party but I wouldn't mind playing a player-appropriate version. Would you be up for cooking up racial stats for such a thing? If that's a possibility I'll start working on a background.

From what little info I could find on them, the naatanuk are deeply spiritual. They're also generally neutral unlike most of the other intelligent species living north of the wall.
If GM Snowe is open to my concept, I'd like to play a naatanuk cub/adolescent, apprenticed to one of his tribe's shamans until circumstances or tragedy separated him from his own people and put him among the humanoids of Aldencross. He'd be a healer of some kind, maybe life oracle|sorcerer or druid|shaman. The material also mentions the naatanuk singing 'primal songs' so fitting bard or skald in there is tempting too.

This is my bid I used the 25 pt buy and using the Dual Talent Racial Trait.

Hey fellas, I'm feeling a little under the weather today, so I apologize for my less than stellar response rate.
@Nate Lange: The core monk class isn't fully eastern flavored, so they're good to go. I am holding alignment restrictions.
@Feral: Any of these caught south of the wall would be killed, any 'cubs' would be sent back north. They're an evil race, so not open to PCs.
@mcridill: Gunslingers are prohibited.
I'll take some time to go over submissions tomorrow! Sorry again for the lack of posts for Friday.

Are you sure? According to the material out there they're a neutral race of druids.
Of all the intelligent races that dwell on Talingarde, the Naatanuk are probably the most misunderstood. Regarded as monsters by the Talireans, these intelligent polar bears are often assumed to be slaves or trained beasts in service of the bugbears. This is untrue. While a few Naatanuk do aid the bugbears, most regard the shaggy goblinoids with disinterest or disdain. The truth is that the Naatanuk are an independent, proud people who made Talingarde their home long before bugbears, humans or any other race came to this once wild island paradise.
In any case, thanks anyway. Best of luck guys.

I'll look into it, but the Naatanuk would still not be very welcome in the south.

I figured as much but I'm 100% okay with playing a character that's a bit ostracized by NPCs. It's not like he's going to be the party face. Other times maybe he could pass as another character's animal companion.
I was looking at the shapeshift hex so he could assume a humanoid form for short periods when it's absolutely necessary.

Backstory is done; mechanically, the concept for my character is a Paladin/Warsighted Oracle, with a level of Swashbuckler eating into the Oracle levels. The Swash level gives panache goodies as well as access to the Swashbuckler's Finesse+Artful Dodge combo, which allows me to qualify for TWF with my charisma; ergo, I can punch people with cesti on a STR/CHA chassis, which I like. As for the backstory, my original concept of a punkish Paladin wasn't coming together in a way that really satisfied me so I flipped the script into something that ended up being much closer to what I think of as the epitome of Lawful Good while also being pretty far from the standard making of a Paladin story.
This all changed rather abruptly one day. As good and wholesome as Fiora's parents were, her uncle on her mother's side was not. He was a drunkard, and a fool, and mired in crippling debt from foolish and sometimes less than legal ventures. Out of familial love Fiora's mother tried to help the man as much as she could, and her husband (albeit reluctantly) aided for her sake, but this uncle preferred to waste their charity and blame his hated sister and brother-in-law for his misfortune. So full of hatred was he that, when the collectors came to his doorstep, when a fiendish voice whispered in his ear that he could wipe away the debt if he were to only sacrifice his niece, he was happy to oblige.
Fiora awoke the next day with a bruise on her head and a gag on her mouth. She was a slave; she was not even aware slavery still existed in Talingarde, but the chains and lashes proved her quite wrong. From that day forward her life involved toiling away in her master's home and fighting others in a secret arena beneath his mansion.
Not all of the fighters were slaves, but for those who were the rules were simple: if you lose, you get whipped, if you win, you do not. Fiora proved excellent in the arena; against opponents who were not slaves, she showed an unmatched swiftness, strength, and grace. On those nights, Fiora's master would praise her, calling her a prodigy blessed with the strength of Asmodeus himself. But against slaves-others like her, ripped from their homes and abused by evil taskmasters-Fiora would fall, taking whatever beating was required before the fight was concluded. On those nights Fiora's master was silent, and he let his whip speak for him. For five long years this persisted; for five long years, her master worked tirelessly to break her, to instill in her the ruthlessness that he was so certain was there. And yet her strength-physical or spiritual-never wavered.
Fiora's five years of perseverance ended as abruptly as they began. After so many years of success her master had finally made a mistake, and the Knights of Alerion had found his secret fight club. Fiora, alongside those whom she had worked to protect, was suddenly free. Her body wavered for the first time; the strength that had kept her going for so long suddenly evaporated and she collapsed in front of one of the Paladins.
Fiora awoke, this time not with a gag on her mouth, but with a blanket on her shoulders. Fiora's injuries, the Paladin explained, were too severe to be left unattended to; by her own examination it was a miracle that Fiora had survived at all, and that the severity of her lashings should have killed her years ago. She remarked that it must have been Mitra's will that Fiora survive her punishments. Mitra was a name that Fiora had not heard in a very long time... It rang beautifully in her ears now.
The Paladin took Fiora to Matharyn, to be professionally cared for by clerics working for the Alerion order. Fiora stayed with the order for a long time, keeping correspondence with the family that could not be more grateful that she survived as she healed. When she recovered, Fiora decided to stay in Matharyn: Mitra had granted her salvation, and for that Fiora wished to serve. Ironically enough, her past as a slave and a pit fighter proved invaluable in her Paladin training; the aggressive style she had adopted in that arena translated well to going toe to toe with fierce hobgoblins and other creatures of evil. She advanced quickly up the ranks and became a full-fledged paladin in rapid pace for one with no noble blood.
--------
I figure that Fiora's former master has potential to return to her life as a follower of Cardinal Thorne. I'm not quite sure how she would react to seeing him again but that is a bridge that would be quite interesting to cross.
Oh, and as for my experience with WotW: I actually GM'd the first book, but my group stalled for various reasons just as we were about to complete that so I'm afraid I'm not really familiar with what goes on in later installments beyond what can be found in the previews.

Sundakan wrote:Bards make really good tactical leaders if you just use Perform (Oratory) for bardic song.As for what I will play, since Warlord is out the tactical leader schtick is not very fun, so I'm thinking a more woodsy sort.
Hunter (Feral Hunter probably)/Something else most likely.
Not mechanically. Inspire Courage is just some bonuses to-hit/damage.
As a Warlord I would have been able to give people extra Move actions, setting up flanks (and increasing flanking bonuses as well), making enemies provoke from nearby allies, that sort of thing.
I'd need a looooot of Teamwork Feats (and for you guys to take them as well) to get the same effect.
But, I'm full of ideas I haven't played or haven't played in a while, so dropping one that seemed fun is no big deal (not worth trying to jam it into a frame that doesn't quite fit).

I'm really surprised there isn't more interest in a theme (especially since the GM said more than once that he's really into the idea). I haven't been able to settle on one character to pitch as an individual, but I do have a bunch of ideas for what I would pitch if enough people decide they're interested in a theme...

Arachnofiend- have you looked at the enlightened paladin archetype at all? I'm not a super big fan of the personal trial ability that replaces smite evil, but the Cha bonus to AC might be nice for you and you could pick up snake style or something to make your unarmed strikes piercing which, I think, would allow you to drop the cesti for more damage?
| Arachnofiend |
Cesti>Unarmed Strikes any day of the week, IMO. I much prefer the superior crit threat (especially for a build that wants to be generating panache), and will gladly take reduced damage die compared to a monk unarmed strike for it. I plan on doing this in Full Plate so the charisma to ac isn't very helpful, plus the Enlightened Paladin requires Irori as a deity anyways.
Even if I didn't think the cestus is just the better weapon mechanically, I generally prefer the bruising gladiatorial image it invokes compared to the more trained and precise image of a Monk. The main advantage of unarmed strikes is the number of feats that are designed to work with it, and since I've got Warsighted Oracle levels I can just martial maneuver into Ascetic Style+whatever I want at that moment.
