Johann takes two big blows (30 damage total), and his eyes open wide. These foes are beyond us...It is no use to resist. I must run!
He full withdrawals, moving an impressive 80 feet away from the fight.
I am feared for 2 rounds, having beaten the second fear effect which would have been for 4 rounds!

Boga |
Pre-battle buffing
Boga pulls his Rod of Reach and starts to speak in almost a singing voice, "O Lord, bind me to your mighty servant Zagathoth as he fights your enemies!" The rings on Boga's and Zagathoth's fingers briefly glow as the pain of battle will be shared between them.

Boga voice once again rings out, "Savior! Protect Johann with thy shield!"
+2 Sacred to AC for Johann. Don't know if that would alter the outcome of the attacks...
Boga moves toward the battle, to be ready to assist in way he can.

As Johann rushes back, Boga sees the fear in his eyes, and commands his pack to provide what is needed. "The scroll against fear!" Boga grabs the scroll and reads it in a comforting, almost melodious, chant. "Noli timere: exaudivit Dominus te protegit."
Johann Kaltgeboren- Dire Bear! |
Johann is still hit both times despite the AC boost, but thanks for trying! How does the timing of the remove fear scroll work? Do I make it all 80 feet away?
Boga |
You got hit in Round 1, so your withdrawal would be round 2, right? Boga acts before you in initiative (it's a miracle!), so if Boga would know that you had the fear condition, he would use the scroll prior to your withdrawal
Johann Kaltgeboren- Dire Bear! |
If MJ agrees with that assessment, then Johann spends his turn instead of running doing the following!
Johann comes to right before he is about to sprint away. No! It is a lie. We can beat them! We will beat them!
And then he full attacks... likely getting a powerful claw (and a 28 to grapple) and bite in, but missing on his second claw.

The Ogon Fox |
"Orpheus: we're going to distract the witch as best we can so that she is not able to make an escape. Got it?"
Without waiting for an answer, the Ogon Fox begins to shift, his body shrinking into the shape of a little, natural-looking fox--a shape you all have seen before. He then moves between and beneath the feat of allies and devil alike to get up close to the witch, or close to her shins, anyway.
Standard action to change shape, move action to move (speed is 40ft instead of 30 in this shape). I'm not totally sure how tight everyone's positioning is--but I probably move through a square (or more than one) threatened by the barbed devil, which provokes an attack of opportunity. I also provoke an attack of opportunity from the witch when I enter her square (I have to enter her square to threaten her, since tiny creatures have not even 5ft reach). My AC in this shape is 19 (18 touch, 13 flat-footed).
I'd like Orpheus to fly to the witch and attempt a dirty trick combat maneuver to inflict the blinded condition on her (only lasts 1 round if successful, and she can also end it with a move action on her turn). He should be able to fly in such a way as to avoid any attack of opportunity from the barbed devil, I think, but he won't be able to avoid one from the witch for entering her square and another for attempting the maneuver without having the Improved Dirty Trick feat. His CMB for the check should be 5 BAB + 2 DEX - 2 size = 5. If he beats her CMD by 5, the condition lasts another round, although she still is able to remove it early with a move action. Orpheus' AC is 19 (16 touch, 17 flat-footed) and he has 30hp.
Cardinal Lucius d'Borja |
Lucius throws a glance towards the witch, wanting to deal with the infamous Striga Lucrezia, but tactician enough to realise that the Barbed Devil is currently the greater threat.
He sidesteps again to pin it between Zagathoth and himself for striking once more!
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 37 Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 + (6, 5) + (5, 5) = 37
Crit?: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 23
Use Determination to reroll the confirmation.
Crit Reroll?: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 26 Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 = 14
And if that confirms its 51 damage and a fort save from the devil against massive damage from a single blow :)

Striga Lucrezia is actually only in her late twenties, so she's not really an old lady. Sorry I did not adequately describe her at first...
The woman the devils had been dragging along now stands before you. She is tall for a woman, at nearly six feet, Italian, with long brown hair braided and clasped with jeweled copper clips, garbed in green and russet dress. Her feet are bare, and she wears a silver necklace with an odd eye-shaped gem depending from it, and a gold ring on her left hand. A haversack is strapped on her back, with a birchwood broom slung to the side of it and wrapped at the end with a bindle. She smiles with obvious relief at being rescued, her brown eyes glistening with tears...
Thank you for saving me! I'm Medea of House Sforza. My family must be anxious, wondering what has happened to me... I am certain they will reward you handsomely for freeing me!
Zagathoth |
"It does not matter why," Zagathoth answers the bear, "you always obey priests and nuns, its one of the rules..." As he speaks, he shifts towards the woman and raises doomcresent menacingly. readying an action to attack if she moves, or tries to cast anything, or Lucius says to attack...
