The other three barbed devils cast scorching rays at Ogon Fox, Alphonse, and Johann, respectively, stepping back if necessary to avoid attacks of opportunity... Scorching ray vs Ogon Fox 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28 deals 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 1) = 7 fire damage, and second ray 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36 strikes Fox for 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 2) = 14 fire damage! Ogon Fox is seared by twin scorching rays cast at him by a hamatula! Scorching ray vs Alphonse 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26 deals 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 2) = 17 fire damage, and second ray 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20 strikes Alphonse for 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 1) = 10 fire damage! Likewise is Sir Alphonse singed by devil-fire... ooc]Scorching ray vs Cobra Johann 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33 deals 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 6) = 18 fire damage, and second ray 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24 strikes Johann for 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 4) = 17 fire damage![/ooc] And so, too, is Cobra Johann burnt by fiery rays from a barbed devil's claws!

Sir Alphonse mows down the wounded hamatula with Foereaper, spins and begins to mow down a second barbed devil with the momentum of a whirling dervish... AAAAAGH!! screams the devil... That's why tormented souls make that sound!

Claw 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33 strikes Fox for 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15 slashing damage and grab 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (19) + 23 = 42 pulls Fox into a painful embrace that deals additional 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 piercing damage and Fox must succeed on a DC 20 Will save or be frightened for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds...
The hamatula on the left hand side of the cornugon at the center darts forward 15 feet and claws at Lady Ihrin... Claw 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37 threatens a critical hit! Confirm 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22 fails, dealing 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 4) + 6 = 17 slashing damage, grab 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (6) + 23 = 29 grapples for additional 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 piercing and Ihrin must succeed on a DC 20 Will save or be frightened for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds...
The third hamatula from the party's left (on the righthand side of the cornugon in the center) moves up fifteen feet to claw at Mwikali... Claw 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31 strikes for 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15 slashing damage and grab attempt 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 30 grapples and deals an additional 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 piercing damage as it hugs Mwikali in a barbed embrace! In addition, she must succeed on a Will save DC 20 or be frightened for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds!
The second hamatula from the left end of the line (next to the badly wounded hamatula being attacked by Cobra Johann and Sir Alphonse) shifts five feet to bring itself into melee range on Sir Alphonse, and assails the paladin with its wickedly barbed claws!
At the other end of the line of devils, the barbed devil being swarmed by Ogon Fox's wasp swarm runs out of the swarm and hurls scorching rays from its clawed hands at the angry swarm of wasps! Ranged touch 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27 deals 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 3) = 13 fire damage to the swarm, and second ray 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35 deals another 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 1) = 14 fire damage, 27 total fire damage to the wasp swarm... The wasp swarm is greatly reduced, but still a swarm capable of inflicting further damage...
The badly wounded and beleaguered devil feels an emotion it has rarely felt in the centuries of its existence: terror! It staggers back five feet, just out of reach of Cobra Johann's fangs and Sir Alphonse's holy scythe, and snarls unholy words of dark magic, gesturing with its clawed hands... 5-foot step backward out of threat range of Johann and Alphonse, casts unholy blight in a 20-foot-radius burst to catch Johann and Alphonse in its area, dealing 5d8 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 3, 5) = 14 damage and the sickened condition for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds; a successful Will save DC 18 halves the damage and negates the sickened condition...
