From my understanding, the Lamashtans are useful pawns while Havelyn is a fellow Asmodean, correct? I think our decision here is clear.
Nathanial Torken
Hey I don't want to take part in Gatekeeping. He's in the family now, who cares for how long? :P
Soren Marsailles
Havelyn is a recent convert, also I might somehow be related to his dead wife; if I recall, I not only look exactly like her but Soren was born around the same time she died. Not sure how exactly that's related, but we've got a much better chance of controlling him both because he's an Asmodean and I can probably keep him doing what we want.
the Shining Host
We are about to begin Book II. As the group leveled a bit quicker than it should have, we will not be leveling until the end of ACT I in Book II. Sorry about that but I don't want the group running rough shod over the initial encounters of Book II.
Nathanial Torken
No complaints here. We're a very high-powered party.
the Shining Host
What kind of a question is that? Of course we're going to loo the keep.
LOL, I just wanted to see what your reactions were to the question!
The KEEP.
Captain Mott's Quarters - +1 Halberd, Composite Longbow (+4), Quiver 20 Arrows. 75 Gold.
Other Captain's Quarters have only mundane items as they are either fled or dead already.
Acolytes - Several Mitran Silver Holy Symbols. 23 Gold.
Magister's Laboratory - Alchemists Lab, Cauldron of Brewing. Oil (Quick Freeze) (2), Censer - Celestial (3), Gel - Frost Ward (4), Powder - Insomnia (2).
Spellbook - Burning Hands, Dancing Lantern, Expeditious Retreat, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Sleep, Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere, Protection from Arrows, Scorching Ray, Web, Flaming Arrow, Fireball, Fly, Ice Storm, Stoneskin, Fire Shield, Wall of Fire.
The Magister - Scroll Dispel Magic, Potion Cure Critical Wounds, Diamond Dust (3 uses), Wand of Fireball (8 charges), Cloak of Resistance +1.
Treasury - 4,950 GP. Dozen Silver & Sapphire Medals (12) value 75 Gold each. Double Eagle Coins (10) value 50 Gold each. Potions Cure Critical Wounds (5). Elixirs of Truth (3).
Any mundane Melee weapons or Armor (medium sized) you wish to acquire from the armory.
Quite the Haul.
the Shining Host
Due to time constraints we are just going to move forward with the party as is, a smaller group is better base don how slow moving the game has been.
the Shining Host
I will give you a chance to RP a bit and split the Loot before I move us forward into Book II, only 20 years after we started Book I!
Nathanial Torken
I think we're good with our current size. We're so strong as is.
Morana Soto
Sorry I have been so flaky. A week of accidents at work, a bad migraine, some family issues, and learning a new game system have seemed to have sapped my will to do much of anything. So I have been sporadic with all my games. I should be getting better.
The accidents included me stabbing myself in the freaking thigh!
Nathanial Torken
Wow, I hope you're doing better. Take care of yourself Morana, and no worries!
Don't worry GM, it's important to take time to yourself. I would prefer a slow and steady march as opposed to you pushing yourself too hard. You're doing great :D
Morana Soto
Apparently I forgot that fact. Luckily it was not really deep. Though the box that fell on me was rather heavy.
As to the loot the spell book I assume will be passed between Alice and I.
Do we have someone who does the alchemy stuff? I don't but I can start cause the cauldron is kinda cool and some alchemical stuff is fun.
And what came from the magic shop? That sounds lovely!
Grumble Jack
Soren has some Craft Alchemy, but it doesn't look like it's a major focus for her. In my opinion having our resident Witch brewing up alchemical goodies in a magic cauldron is the way things should be, so I say go for it. Hell, retrain some skill points and say you knew it all along.
Prety sure you're correct about the spellbook. You'll both copy spells during downtime, and when you're done with it we'll sell it for a bucket of money (spellbooks are expensive).
Storyteller Shadow
GM, you seem to have forgotten the Lamashtan's gear and the looted Magic Shop in your loot list.
Hmm, for some reason I thought I dropped the Magic Shop stuff.
Ah yes, the Lamashtans, there are two or three items there as well :-)
I will have an update in the next few days getting Book II started and sorting out that missing gear.
Soren Marsailles
Hey everyone, sorry I've been super quiet lately. Work was hectic for quite a while with me training several new people, and I've just been kinda overwhelmed with a lot of stuff. I sort of bit off more than I could chew on some self-improvement projects, to give the short version. Then you throw in me launching a Twitch channel and buying a new computer while looking for somewhere new to live... yeah, it's been a lot.
Just wanted to say I'm still around and ready to go/discuss plans/divvy up loot whenever we get to it.
As a side note, I only have Craft (Alchemy) to be able to craft alchemical cartridges for my pistol. I will likely never put any more points into it since that's good enough for my purposes since I can always take 10.
Nathanial Torken
This is a PSA to all of my active games: I will be unavailable starting this Friday afternoon (the 16th) until next Thursday morning (the 22nd). I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please GMPC me as needed.
the Shining Host
So it's been a fun year so far! NOT.
Anyhow, I am back again, hopefully with some consistency this time. I will likely get this thread up and running again on Saturday as I need to read Book II again (been a while). Just wanted to give a more specific update here than the ones I have been providing in my Status Thread as pertaining to this game.
I don't think I have prepped for my table top game before last week for all of 2018, the longest stretch of not prepping for a game in the 30 years I've been in this hobby...
the Shining Host
Working on the newest update. Book II is pretty interesting! Looking forward to running it with this group.
the Shining Host
If you did not divvy up the loot go ahead and do so now. For now, assume no value for resale of items you do not need, I will let you know when that will be a possibility.
We move forward once more!
the Shining Host
FYI, I like the idea of keeping Havelyn but do not want to run him as an NPC so I am recrutiing for a new PC. Plus with Soren's declining posting rate a I think another PC will spice things up a bit.
Morana Soto
I am starting to get sick so please bot me for a few days. Sorry. Also I am ok with this idea. Good luck recruiting.
Grumble Jack
Our wonderful GM just Ok'd Spheres of Power in the recruitment thread, so I'm going to be giving Grumble a slight rework. I'll be losing Spellcasting and Smite Good, but gaining some more combat versatility.
Morana Soto
I know nothing about the Spheres of Power so yay learning.
Also I apologize for how long I was out. I have been slowly playing catch up.
Grumble Jack
Spheres of Power is an impressively thorough reworking of how melee classes work, designed specifically to put their options on par with spellcasters.
It won't be of much use to you, but Soren might want to look into it. There's a bunch of great stuff for gun based characters
Sorеn Marsailles
I give up spells for that, don't I? It's tempting to look into but if that is indeed the case I likely won't since they're so valuable for me. Not only for infiltration but she does also get some nasty buffs and such from them as well. Being able to cast stuff like Silence and Invisibility are gonna be super useful for me before I even get into buffing my damage at all. If I'm wrong though, could be good to look into.
Also, I know you haven't messaged us about it yet here Shadow, but I figured I'd let you know my personal pick for our new Havelyn. HelixMissionary is a friend of mine (a couple of you know his old account Loup Blanc) and I think the two of us will be able to make use of the Soren/Havelyn dynamic super well.
Storyteller Shadow
My kid was sick and it was my weekend so I was dealing with that, yes, I will attach a link tonight here once I review the 3 or 4 submissions we have.
the Shining Host
The three submissions, let me know your thoughts [Soren's selection already known :-)]:
Doomed Hero
I give up spells for that, don't I? It's tempting to look into but if that is indeed the case I likely won't since they're so valuable for me.
No, actually. You'd give up feats (but it would end up being more feat-efficient for you.
See the "Combat Training for Non-Spheres of Might Classes" section.
If you were going to convert Soren to Spheres, you'd give up your 1st level feat and your 5th level feat (I'd bet Shadow would let you negotiate this to a different feat due to our special gestalt rules taking our 5th level feat slot.) This would make you a Proficient practitioner.
In return for that investment, you'd get a Martial Tradition which sets your weapon and armor proficiencies and gives you a couple bonus starting spheres (Soren would likely have either the Combat Gunner or Mechanic tradition). Then after picking your tradition you'd have 3 sphere Talents to pick from. (that's a total of probably 5 sphere talents, depending on the Tradition you picked).
Each sphere talent is worth roughly one feat, but some of them are actually better. Using one Talent (or the right Martial Tradition) to pick up the Barrage sphere, for example, grants the effective benefits of Point Blank Shot and Rapid Shot. So that alone would already pay for the feat investment, and keep you with the same feats you already have. (Spheres is a straight upgrade in versatility for most Martial classes.)
The Gun Kata equipment talent would let you use your guns as effective melee weapons.
The Sniper sphere is all about doing big damage with one bullet. A fun combination of Sniper talents is Focusing Reload and Headshot. Basically, you take one shot each round at +2d10 damage, and if it deals ore than 50% of the target's remaining health, they have to make a save or die. (this talent combo requires the Sniper sphere, and two additional Talents sunk into it, so it's a bit steep but a great example of the the kinds of combos you can pull off)
If you can get your Reload speed down to a free action, the combination of the Covering Fire sniper talent and the Combat Reflexes feat allows you to make Attacks of Opportunity into a area you choose. (This is fantastic for covering doorways). This combo stacks really nicely with the Vigilant Sharpshooter talent out of the Barrage sphere (which acts similarly to Snap Shot without all the BS feat prerequisites)
Just take a look at [url=http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/barrage]Cone of Death[/url towards the bottom of the page. That costs 1 Talent, and you qualify for it next level.
Grumble Jack
Wow, all three are strong submissions With no obviously superior choice I'm willing to go with Soren's preference. Helix's version of Thomas has some mechanical similarities to Grumble, but I'm fine with that.

Sent my thoughts in a PM.

Same. All three look really good.

Hi there, everyone! Glad to be aboard and I'm very excited to play this out. Havelyn seems like he's taken quite the interesting turn here and I'm digging the possibilities. I'll get a full alias together for him shortly. As far as party role, I'm hoping for Havelyn to be a dedicated tank, calling enemies to focus on him and retaliating as they rain blows upon him (hopefully without effect).
Nathanial Torken
Welcome aboard!
the Shining Host
Go ahead and jump in LT :-)
Re-read my last few posts first to get the flavor of the current scene of course!
Morana Soto
Apparently there is some nasty weather coming and my state tends to shut down when that happens. If I do not post at some point in the next few days it means I probably lost power.
the Shining Host
Gonna let the RP flow here I'll step in when it has run its course. Plus need to give Soren a chance to check in.
Morana Soto
I am having some bad family issues so please bot me if I am not posting.
Morana Soto
Things are resolved. I had found a thing a while ago and remembered that it existed. Poppet Familiar would let me get the familiar I want without having to take the craft construct feat since I am not sure I want that. In the down time we have had on the boat would I have been able to retrain my level 5 feat for this one?

Yes.
