Also, I almost forgot! My trip is over, and I'm now back home in the States. It was really fun, but it's nice to be back home.

I'm going to have to add to the theme music parade later. I have some ideas. :)
This for Morena, for instance.
Morana Soto |
I forgot about that band. I like them. That is an interesting choice it has a cool crafting quality to it.
Also I am going to leave this here. It has no standing in the theme song but everyone should hear it once. I have been sharing it with everyone.

I was crushed. It is one of my favorite shows. It is right up there with Firefly for me.

FYI, I will be off of the boards on Wednesday and likely Thursday due to my daughters impending surgery. Likely I will be distracted with hospital visit and aftercare those days.
Nathanial Torken |
I hope it's nothing serious, and I wish her the best of luck.
Soren Marsailles |
I hope everything goes okay! Don't worry about us, we'll be here when you get back. Make sure she's alright and taken care of.
Vaundour"The Gentleman"Gathlain |
Take care of your girl, family first and all that. Hope everything goes well!
Morana Soto |
Because it cannot be said enough, like ever. I hope everything goes well
Storyteller Shadow |
Thanks guys!
Its not serious but it is at the same time, not life threatening put in that way but potentially life altering if we do not get it done.
You are giving villainy a bad name here with all the well wishes... :-)
Morana Soto |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Not true about the bad name. Villains can have deep and kind feelings. We care for our allies and friend just the same as those 'heroes.' We just choose to see the world for the place that it is instead of the though the rose tinted glasses those idiots use. We will also go to greater lengths to protect and keep those that we call friend.

On a completely unrelated note, I figured I'd let you guys know that I'm looking for a player in my Kingmaker game here on the boards. We're still in Book 1, although I'm currently running them through a custom-made adventure meant to flesh out one of the book's subplots. If you're interested, just shoot me a PM and I'll give you the rest of the information there.

The surgery went well but she needed another day and night of TLC so no posting for me yesterday.
Updates now.
Morana Soto |
I am gonna leave that here for Grummble.
the Shining Host |
Updates tomorrow folks, trying to get into the swing of things now that I am back but I am very backed up!

Aurex still has a +3 BaB and a +2 dex, so with the giant pile of alchemical stuff we're carrying around now, he could stand behind Nathaniel and pelt enemies with Tanglefoot bags.
Nathanial Torken |
Oh that's a good point Grumblejack. I knew he wasn't proficient in any hooman weapons and obviously can't breath fire, but he could do that. However, if Aurex acts that means Nate doesn't. I do have a few rounds of Draconic Focus I could use though...
Grumble Jack |
Seriously? That's how the class works? Only one of you can take actions at a time?
That's total garbage. Ouch.
Edit: So, the munchkin side of my brain started working on the "how to make riding a dragon less mechanically crippled."
Leadership is out because dragons count as CR+8, which makes them 8 levels under par for wherever the character is at. They will fail every save and never hit anything. No thanks.
The Dragonrider Cavelier doesn't get a dragon. They get a drake. At least the drake stays level appropriate. Still though, not a real dragon.
Then it hit me- What if the Dragon had leadership?
CR is supposed to be exactly equivilant to Level in terms of combat power. Aurex could be considered the PC and take leadership when he reaches 6 HD, and take a 4th level Nate as his cohort.
Given the cool "one level of gestalt" thing this game uses, you could even give one if them a class level to boost their versatility (if it were me I'd give it to Nate to keep him more viable in a game that would be two levels above him).
Something to think about.
EDIT 2: With the Squire feat you could do this right now. You'd have Aurex as a CR 3 dragon with 1 gestalt level in a class that gives martial weapon proficiencies. Nate would be put back to 1st level, but Aurex, even in human form, would be a very strong combatant.
Then at 6th level when Squire "graduated" to Leadership, you could drop the gestalt level from Aurex and give it to Nate
All this is subject to GM approval of course, but in terms of mechanical balance it is sound.
Nathanial Torken |
You should follow the link to the class. It's very intricate. And the action economy scales with level, eventually getting down to only a swift action. Also if I started with a less powerful dragon then the action economy starts off easier.
Uhh, don't worry. This class is strong enough, it doesn't need a buff. I have monk saves, full BaB, good proficiencies, minor spellcasting, and killer class abilities.

Alright. I was just theorycrafting out of boredom. One of my pet peeves of game design are limitations that seem arbitrary, so when I see them I have to try to figure out how to work around it.
Nathanial Torken |
Oh I will have fun theorycrafting with you all day! It's one of my greatest things to do!
However I am very happy with where Nate currently is (I think it's extremely lenient to allow this kind of character as is), so I won't be changing anything. But don't let that stop us from thinking of fun stuff!
Yes the feats certainly help. Until level 8, getting Aurex to act in combat will require a standard action on Nate's part, or 3/day he can do it as a move action. Considering how strong Aurex is, I think it's well balanced. I have to pick and choose who to use when.
the Shining Host |
I do not see me on that map do I add myself, I have never used this.
Oversight on my part, I'll add you tonight.

As a note, attacking things that are in the water tends to be super bad.
Attacks from Land: Characters swimming, floating, or treading water on the surface, or wading in water at least chest deep, have improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves) from opponents on land. Land-bound opponents who have freedom of movement effects ignore this cover when making melee attacks against targets in the water. A completely submerged creature has total cover against opponents on land unless those opponents have freedom of movement effects. Magical effects are unaffected except for those that require attack rolls (which are treated like any other effects) and fire effects.
Threads discussing these rules elaborate that some weapons which are designed for use in aquatic terrain like Harpoons, Nets, Tridents, Gaff Hooks, Nereid crossbows, and stuff like that don't/shouldn't have these penalties, but that it's pretty much the GM's call.
GM, care to weigh in?
Nathanial Torken |
Jesus, is that really the RAW for water combat? That is brutal, and unrealistic to boot.
