To be honest, I think this is highlighting one of my flaws as a GM--I have some difficulties gauging how fast a campaign is supposed to progress. That includes giving PC levels and balancing loot. I'm working to get better.

With an adventure path I just follow the suggested leveling points, it's easy enough to adjust encounters if I have to. For stuff I make up it's whenever I feel like it.


That's what I'm doing with this AP, definitely.

Admittedly, I'm more concerned with telling a good story that entertains my players than providing a serious combat challenge. I'm more fond of challenging my players in different ways.

I like that myself, I'm not a big fan of combat, though I know it's needed. In a face to face game it's not so bad but in a pbp one it can kill games due to the length of time it tends to take. I have a skulls and shackles game I run on rpol that is in book two and we've been glossing over most of the combat, it's a pain in the butt to run, and it really slows things down at times.


Amen to that.

I'll admit that I can be a bit of a combat junkie in RPGs when I'm in the mood for it. That being said, that's usually when I'm playing Baldur's Gate. ;)


Once the rest of you decide on a course of action, I can get us moving to the end of this part. :)

We have a lot of wakazashis to sell and with the other loot, what is our total?
And how much to repair the magical wakazashi? It is not broken, you said, just the hilt to be fixed?


The Whispering Shrike can be used in combat (it's not broken), but the loose hilt means you'll take a -2 penalty on attack rolls.

It'll cost about 600 gp, a DC 20 Craft (Weapons) check, and a day of work.

On a related note, does anyone want to start up a loot sheet?

A loose hilt takes 600 GP? more than twice than making a MW weapon. Japanes swords usually had a loose hilt, hold by a pin. A well you are the GM. It is unfort almost all our funds, so I will keep the Katana as the main weapon.


The Whispering Shrike is enchanted, so there's that...

Loot list

After divvying up the coinage and selling the various gems, jewelry, and objects d' art everyone gets 577 gp, 1 sp, and 9 cp.

If there's anything on the list that anyone wants please speak up.

Caerwyn is interested in the Ring of Climbing and the MW chain shirt (as I'm sure a lot of people are), but nothing else catches his eye. I believe that Yui already has the Cloak of Resistance, Nestahsa the MW kukri, and Ikoma has Whispering Shrike.

I think the Animal Bane arrows should go to Gilbert.

We currently have 7 potions of Cure Light Wounds. I think everyone should get at least one, with the remaining two going to our Non-Primary combatants, Yui and Nestasha. The two Cure Moderate Wounds potions should go to Gilbert, and Ikoma respectively. The Lesser Restoration potions should then go to Caerwyn, Nestasha, and Yui.

I believe that Gilbert is the only one who can use the Cure Light Wounds scrolls, same goes for Yui and the False Life scroll. The Wand of Identify should go to Yui as well for the same reason.
We will need to figure out what that last scroll is and at what CL they are written at.

Does anyone have any other ideas or anything on the list that they want?

Would Make Whole repair Whispering Shrike? Getting Koya or Father Zantus to cast it might be cheaper than having the blacksmith do it.


Make whole would repair the Whispering Shrike, as would mending. However, the caster needs to have a caster level equal to or greater than the CL of the magic item being mended.

Yui would have learned from identifying it that the Whispering Shrike has a CL of 5th.

Gohei would like the town priest to try to cast masterwork transformation on his sword. Totaling for 300gp in fees.
Also he would ask if the town cleric can cast mending. He would gladly donate a few more coins to the church. Also maybe the old lady can cast the spell? He would ask her first. Maybe she is a wizard or cleric?

I think that sounds fine to me. I'll stick with my current armor until I can find a mithril shirt or something, would rather not take the acp. I think the division of potions sounds good as well.

I think Gilbert is going to be more of the ranged specialist while Caerwyn is more of a mix it up toe-to-toe kind of guy. Although Gilbert could follow Ikoma's lead and for 150 gp's have someone cast Masterwork Tranformation on his studded leather and remove the ACP altogether.
