Henry hands the medallion to Mister Carter, then thumps the man over the head stoutly with the butt of weapon, knocking him out.

"I'm going to creep closer to the house. With any luck they'll think I'm him." Henry whispers.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

I would like to have Edward try a check to determine the meaning and, hopefully, the origin of the medallion. He has points in History, Theology, and Library Use. Would any of those give him an advantage?

LCDR Readington-Smythe stalks towards the house. The shutters at one of the slit-like windows are half open, throwing weak light on the frosty ground.

Mr. Carter, the medallion suggests some of the imagery of St. George and the Dragon. I'll allow a 1 point spend, from any of those pools for additional information.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward studies the medallion with a keen eye, breaking out his monocle to get a better view of the engraving. Goosebumps break out on his arm as he focuses on St. George and the Dragon... something about it seems wrong, but not even the extra help of his monocle and spectacles seem to help him decipher the object's origin or meaning.

Edward uses 1 point in History
History: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Its just a simple point spend.

The inverted trident you're pretty sure means a satanic affiliation; you seem to recall such icongraphy being associated to a 17th century secret society, similar to Dashwood's infamous 'Hellfire Club'.

LCDR Readington-Smythe has crept to the side of the house, from within he hears the murmur of voices.

Henry listens to see if he can make out what's being said inside.

There seem to be two male voices, talking lowly; LCDR Readington-Smythe is unable to make out any words.

Moments later he hears what sounds like two little girls, in a sing-song chant of 'Three Blind Mice': he hears it in total and crystal clarity.

'Three blind mice. See how they run. See how they die!'

The song ends amidst girlish giggling.

Henry feels an odd chill brush his spine and and he creeps back to the others. "Sirs, I have heard a most disturbing ditty. Two little girls singing Three Blind Mice, but in a disturbing fashion."

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Are Edward and Emrys close enough to hear the singing?

Only with a Sense Trouble spend.

The light through the shuttered windows dims.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

The hairs stand up on Edward's arms. He cocks his head as a feeling of disquiet envelops him. His ears perk up.

"By the pricking of my thumb," he says, "Something wicked this way comes."

Sense Trouble: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

No roll, just a spend.

Mr. Carter thinks he hears a stony rattle from behind the hovel.

Faint girlish giggling seems to ripple through the fog.

"Sirs? I thought that was the radio, but..." Henry raises his firearm and scans the fog carefully.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward plants a foot on the prisoner to keep him from thrashing or making any muffled noise.

"What are those sounds, cousin? An unnerving rattling and a girl? By all that's holy if they have a hostage..."

Edward feels his face growing red with anger.

Male Human

The doctor looks about nervously to see if he can spot the origins of the sounds.

"Whatever those sounds are, I don't care for them."

As the doctor speaks his mind, he can feel the hairs on his neck and arms stand on end and a cool chill runs through his body.

Looking out into the moors, you see two pale lights, like faint candle-flames.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Do they flicker like fire or like people waving around flashlights?

More like the will-o-wisps of legend, do they do seem to coalescing, becoming more define.

Climatic showdown with the cultists out on the foggy moors: everyone can refresh 2 points among General Abilities.

"Mister Carter, Doctor Hanmer, what the devil ARE those things?!?" Henry hisses as he raises his pilfered weapon! [ooc]1 pt of firearms, 1 of scuffling![/ooc

Refreshing Medicine and Sense Trouble

"I'm not sure what we are seeing gentlemen, but I don't think this is an illusion. Best be on guard." Emrys mentions while looking down at the revolver now firmly in his hand, cylinder open as he checks its loadout.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

"Do we risk making our traitor talk? Ask him what in hell is going on?"

Edward puts his Webley up against the man's head.

The phantom lights are coming closer; they appear to be two small girls, in plain frocks, holding hands and smiling sweetly: all the while floating some ten inches above the frosty moors.

Stability Test, with a Difficulty of 4
Those who want to can attempt a Sense Trouble test (and yes, a true test), Difficulty 4

Stability, 2 pt spend if I can: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

After what you have seen so far, this spectral pair are not as alarming at they might seem.

LCDR: You wheel about, peering over the low wall at your back; to see two figures scuttling across the paddock.

"Sirs! Two bogeys across the paddock! Make ready, men!"

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Stability: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Sense Trouble: 1d6 ⇒ 3

More perplexed than scared by the girls, Edward turns his attention to the LCDR. He looks down at their prisoner, then towards the paddock, and then back at the prisoner again. He's unsure how to proceed.

Seeing that their approach across the paddock was detected, the two dart forward.

You recognize the pair as two of the three you faced in the tunnels. The younger of the pair is still wielding his shotgun.

The older man makes some intricate, weaving motions in the air before him, before stabbing an accusatory finger towards LCDR Readington-Smythe.

LCDR Readington-Smythe make a Difficulty 5 stability test. If you want to shoot first, before either of the pair can act, the Hit Threshold is 5 (otherwise it is 4 for the older of the pair, and a mere 3 for the younger man).

Stability, 1 pt spend: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Henry fires at the accusing old man! Firearms: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Does Edward have line-of-sight to fire his pistol at the old man? Edward doesn't want to shoot the LCDR in the back!

Yes, Mr. Carter has a LOS to the the older man: but he cannot shoot
before the vile wizard gets his spell cast. LCDR Readington-Smythe cries out in mortal agony; as it feels as if every nerve ending in his body is on fire.

LCDR: You loose six points from your Health Pool; and your Health Rating is decreased by 1! For your next action you cannot use any Investigative actions, and you must spend double for all General Spends. You are the victim of a sorcery most vile!

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

wow!

"ARGHHH!" screams the Lieutenant Commander!

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

"Bloody Hell! Edward shouts as he watches the Lieutenant-Commander cry out in agony. He grips his Webley in both hands to steady his grip and tries to fire.

Is he able to shoot?

Yes, he can shoot.

The ghostly twins swoop forward, even as the young man approaching from the other direction raises his shot-gun.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Grimacing, Edward shoots!

Pistol Shot: 1d6 ⇒ 5

So which of the pair are you targeting?

The younger man fires the shot-gun as Mr. Carter raises up behind the wall.

shot-gun: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

So you both hit your targets.

shot-gun damage to Mr. Carter: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward was firing at the man with the shotgun.
.
Edward's Health Pool is down to -2. Is he dead?

Male Human

The elder doctor rushes over to his cousin as he notices he is writhing about in pain. "Are you okay cousin? You look as well as a turtle on its back."

You are considered hurt with a Health pool of 0- -5. Wounded up to -11. At -12 you're dead. While Hurt all tests are at a +1 Difficulty. .

The spectral twins, theirs faces split by grotesquely distended mouths, wail and shriek from a few feet away.

Male Human Author of Planetary Romances

Edward rolls around, thrashing, screaming and clutching the bloody wound that's just torn him open.

"Emrys! Help me!"

Male Human

First Aid: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 The doctor quickly does his best to identify the pain.

Dr. Hanmer spending 2 points will restore 4 points of Mr. Carter's Health Pool.

Again, the older man begins making sinuous motions in the air.

Henry tries to gather his wits and pops up to shoot at anything that presents a target. Not sure who is up and who is down!

Firearms: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Regrettably, that is a miss, sir.

Map posted in discussion.
