The Land of Io (Inactive)

Game Master Elton

Adventure in the Land of Io, where the Children of Io must contend with the power of the Serpent Men.

Silver Crusade

I wonder how many will be interested in playing a campaign that has these themes.

a. Humans vs. Serpentmen (see Serpent's Skull and Bestiary II or III).

b. Early Middle Iron Age -- a.k.a. 700-600 B.C. You will be allowed to discover Steel, however.

c. Serpentmen civilization will be based off of Serpent Kingdoms book for Forgotten Realms. Serpentmen will have access to the spells of the Yuan-ti.

d. Humans are based on the 12 tribes of Israel. You will get to choose traits based off of your character's particular tribe. For instance, members of the Tribe of Dan are natural explorers, and members of the Tribe of Judah have leadership characteristics (although it's more complicated than that).

e. Allied (or Playable Races) to humans:

1. Elves (High Elves, Grey Elves, Sun Elves).

2. Halflings

3. Saurians (Rebuilt from Saurials.)

4. Lion headed characters from Ptolus.

5. Dwarves.

6. Nagaji (don't ask how!)

f. Neutral races:

1. Orcs -- Just want to be left alone.
2. Gnomes. -- Everybody leaves the gnomes alone. They are craaaazee!
3. Hobgoblins. -- Military Culture based off of the Hittites.

g. Allied races to Serpentmen:

1. Firenewts
2. Khastas
3. Ophidians
4. Lizard folk.

h. Overall feel of the campaign is partly like Barsoom, partly like Gor, and partly like the Conanverse.

Litorians. They're damned awesome.

(Dotting for interest)

So we should expect some near nudity and lots of male dominance?

No. More like a lot of action and adventure. Near nudity would only work for certain players of mine who play nude characters. So, it depends on what you define as "some near nudity."

Fantasy art's standard metal bikini or speedo: Gor, Barsoom, Conan

Edit: I probably should clarify that I understand now that you are aiming for more of a "sword and sorcery" feel.

Silver Crusade

Yeah. If you don't mind a little psionics mixed in.

I'm just expanding the land around my fantasy city of City of Phoenicia.

Sounds cool to me.

What kinds of classes would be available?

seems pretty sweet, I would make a guy up for this

I've been wanting to play a Naga Aspirant druid since the ARG came out. I'd love to get all Hyborean up in this place.

What kinds of classes would be available?

From the Core Rulebook:

* Barbarian (usually non-Tribal humans or elves living deep in the Wilderness)
* Bard
* Cleric☥
* Druid (Much of the campaign is based on Celtic lore, so yeah. They fit -- strangely.)
* Fighter (need a weapons specialized martial artist)
* Pankrationist ("All Powers" martial artist, i.e. Monk)
* Paladin (i.e. Greek Mythical Hero)
* Ranger
* Rogue
* Sorcerer☥
* Wizard☥

Other Base Classes:

* Alchemist
* Oracle
* Summoner
* Psion (Educated Specialist in the Law of Attraction)
* Psychic Warrior (Warrior Specialist in the Law of Attraction)
* Soulknife
* Wilder (Uneducated specialist in the Law of Attraction)

☥ Cleric Options: Much of the Greek Myths are actually stories from the Bible, only corrupted over time. The Greek Gods of Zeus, Aphrodite, Ares, Apollo, Athena, Artemis, Demeter, Dionysus, Hades, Hecate, Hephaestus, Hera, Hercules, Hermes, Hestia, Nike, Pan, Poseidon, and Tyche are all available. Details on their domains are in the 3rd Edition Book Deities and Demigods.

Clerics also may chose the entire pantheon as a patron -- since the Classical Olympians are a Tight Pantheon. They may also choose The Unknown One (YHWH) as their patron as well. Accordingly, a philosophical movement called "The Academy" is among Men. Clerics may also create their own patrons using 1e Deities and Demigods as a guide or look through FR's Faiths and Pantheons or the Guide to the Inner Sea for inspiration!

☥ The following Sorcerer Domains are commonly Available: Aberrant, Abyssal, Accursed, Arcane, Celestial, Daemon, Djinni, Destined, Elemental, Fey, Imperious, Infernal, Orc, Protean, and Undead. Sorcerers can also choose the Tattooed Sorcerer template from Magic of the Inner Sea.

☥ Wizards are usually specialists. There are few Universal Wizards, and there are more charlatans that wear flamboyant clothing (i.e. conical hats with stars and robes with a star motif and using wands for their power, for example) than wizards. Usually it's the charlatans that are put to death by the Church (as in stoned to death).

Wizards with true power are divided according to their specialization.

Philosopher: The Philosophers are nonspecialist Mages. They just don't go around showing their power.
Sin Magic: Sin Mages are a threat to the stability of the Land. Although not all Sin Mages are evil, most are perceived so. Regarded as very powerful, discovered Sin Mages -- if they aren't very powerful -- are put to death immediately by stoning. Powerful Sin Mages often face adventurer parties. See Magic of the Inner Sea
Primalist: Primal Magic is as ancient as anything and come from a time before memory when Magic was unwieldable. Rediscovery of Primal Magic brought the primalist into being. Primalists are frightening. Their magic is unpredictable and often the people banish them from the land.

3rd Party Books Allowed

Yes, I allow third party. Obviously, I allow Psionics Unleashed. However, the following third party books are also allowed:

THE BOOK OF ELDRITCH MIGHT
PTOLUS
MORE MAGIC AND MAYHEM (for the WoW RPG)
RELICS AND RITUALS I (Most of the spells are overpowered for their level. Check with me before you want to research or pick a spell from that book).
THE SLAYERS GUIDE TO AMAZONS
-- Interesting aside about the Amazons. It seems that theory can be stranger than Fiction.
D20 ADVANCED MAGIC. I'll implement these rules when everyone has confidence and are willing to try a different magic system.

Yes, it's more of a Sword and Sorcery feel. The idea is to have fun, and Sword and Sorcery of the past century was more popular until the Sword of Shannara came out. Sword and Planet and Sword and Sorcery inspired the Wilderlands and the overall feel is what is inspiring this campaign.

Warning: One of my players commonly play a strict nudist in my campaigns she's always played in. I typically also detail a culture or two around nude culture too.

Can I be this girl?

I don't see why not. As long as you don't disrupt the other players' experiences.

Silver Crusade

Campaign Info is up, and -- oh -- and Bump.

Aseneth of the tribe of Judah is a druid (lion shaman). She has forsaken the civilized ways of her people to live with their tribe's namesake. Considered mad by some, and holy by others, she wanders the land with her great lion companion Suri righting wrongs against nature and her people.

Good. Move it to the discussion thread, so that others who will want to join the campaign can write up some links. :)

Definitely interested, was considering a Celtic style druid but may go with something else now.

Great! :)

anymore?

Would 2 druids be viable? Would go with a more heavily spellcasting archetype

Silver Crusade

Drake wanted to play a Naga Aspirant. I think I can work around two druids. I'll leave the problems of competition vs. cooperation between the both of you. If Drake ever decides to go ahead.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

In that case I think I'd go with either a base Druid or Reincarnated Druid, fully Celtic style design. Which nation would best fit that? The Isle of Anglesey, Devon, or Cambria?

Silver Crusade

In real life Anglesey traditionally was the home of the Archdruid before Roman times. Now, the Archdruid dwells in London.

In this set up, Anglesey is the sacred home of the druids; taking that cue from the real world Anglesey. Cambria is a land of peace loving people, and Devon is a semi-arid land. You have to pick.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Anglesey it is. Will get to work on the character.

Neat.

Okay, we need a fighter, a wizard or sorcerer, and a rogue.

I'd still love to, but I can defer the role. The Naga Aspirant does play very differently from a normal druid, but I'm also interested in a wizard or sorcerer. Or fighter, if need be.

If you need me to make something else, I have a blasty sorcerer concept I wouldn't mind modifying for the setting. A tattooed sorcerer crossblooded Orc/Elemental(Primal). Open to racial choices - is there anything you as a DM would like to see represented from the list? A roleplaying challenge is always welcome.

Silver Crusade

Are you willing to try something crazy?

Always!

Good. Here's an idea. How about a Nagaji sorcerer that is raised by Naga Aspirants?

Or even better: a synthesist summoner raised by aspirants who conjures a serpentine form for himself.

Silver Crusade

that can also work.

I'm gonna withdraw from this, seems I'm the only one in the discussion thread and there are others who want to play druids.

I'm sorry. :(

Don't be, I've got plenty going on. Good luck guys :) Have fun

Okay. :)

I started a Wiki on ObsidianPortal to make it easier for you to join and recruit while playing on Triapse. I can also keep track of your characters just as easy as here.
