You wake up in the dark, lying face down on what feels like cold, wet stone. Your head is reeling under the vestigial influence of some kind of poison or spell. You can feel the ache in your muscles from laying in the same position for too long. It feels like there is a loose sack-like garment made from an itchy fabric covering your body. You cannot remember who you are, or how you got here. Suddenly you are blinded as an extremely bright white light replaces the darkness. It fills the room and you hear a voice much like Morgan Freeman's say "Welcome to the Eternal Dungeon. You may call me Master. I have brought you here to entertain myself. Your goal is simple. Survival." the voice pauses for emphasis. "You may ask me one question, and I will provide a truthful answer." The whiteness continues to fill your vision and you feel disconnected from your body. The only thing you can perceive at all is a blank white space without any boundaries.

Sai rubs his eyes, peering into the void and not liking that there seems to be nothing to see. Liking even less that this place seems the opposite of his home, shadowless and empty. He has many questions, but has little hope that the disembodied voice's answers will tell him what he wishes to know. The deck is stacked. Survival, then. A goal that is doomed to failure, given enough time. Survive for now. Survive long enough to find his way out. Survive long enough to find whatever is using him as a toy. Survive long enough to hear it beg for mercy. Sai smiled, to find himself in agreement with the voice. It was simple.

"OK, Sweetheart," he says. "Where's the best place to get a drink in your little playpen here?"

Zorek struggled up from prone, every muscle in his body screaming in protest. Black lines streaked up his scaly bestial arms. It took the tiefling a second to figure out that they were his veins.

Then a blinding whiteness filled his vision and the Master spoke. One question huh? The bestial man spoke, "Who am I?" Where he was, was secondary at this point, from the brief flash of vision that he got, he was in a stone room. A dungeon of some sort probably. What he was doing there, he didn't know. But not knowing who he is was a big issue, and should be solved pretty quickly.

Male Human Paladin/Sorcerer 1

Valens reached our to stabilize himself before realizing that his hands don't respond. He can't remember why, but he knows that he deserves this. "my brothers will be afraid," he thinks, not knowing who his brothers are or why he cares about them. He floats in the light for a moment before responding "How do we survive?"

Formatting notes:I plan on using italics for internal thoughts, and bold for out loud speech. Makes it instantly clear which is which.

Sai Ling:

"Bwahahhahhahhahahaha" A thunderous laughter fills the place. "Such defiance in the face of the unknown. Best is so subjective, but the closest place to get a drink is the puddle your face is in." The voice continues to chuckle as it fades away.

Zorek:

"You are demon-spawn cursed and alone, a warrior of darkness. If you entertain me sufficiently, I may tell you more." says the Master's voice before fading into nothingness.

Angel:

"You fight, you think, you endure." The voice says before fading out.

Day 1; 08:00

The whiteness recedes into a blotchy purple green miasma that fills your field of vision. Just like when you stare at the sun for too long and then look away. The uncomfortable sensations of your body return, first the beating of your heart and breathing of your lungs. Then the cramps and dampness. As the room is beginning to resolve itself into some kind of chamber you hear the voice once again, this time a physical sound in the room, "Oh yes, I almost forgot. If you examine your chests you will see my mark there. Should you attack or attempt to harm one another in any way, including deliberate inaction, you will cease to exist. It will be as if you had never even been, no one will remember you but me, and I will spend the rest of eternity feasting on your soul." After a momentary pause, it ends with "Have a pleasant day."

After a few moments of adjustment you can see the room you are in. It is a square chamber fifteen feet on a side. It is dimly lit in the blue light of several large growths of strange mycelial fungus accumulated in the corners of the chamber. The walls are completely smooth damp sandstone. The floor is uneven slate flagstones (DC 10 acrobatics to run or charge without falling prone). The only visible exit is in the southwest corner of the room, through an open arched doorway, that is carved in swirling chaotic patterns.

You make out two other humanoid forms also struggling to wakefulness on the floor of the chamber. Along the north wall lie three large chests. One is covered in polished brass filigree, over white leather, it's quite large. The middle chest is a simple black leather affair, completely unadorned, the leather so dark you almost miss seeing it altogether. It is the smallest of the three. The third chest is made of cast iron and is by far the largest, it's more coffin sized than footlocker, it leans upright against the wall. None of them appear to have any sort of latch or lock.

Mark on your chest:

The marks on your chests are about two inches in diameter, and rest over your hearts. They look like tattoos, but are constantly shifting in color and form. Like ink dropped into a pool of swirling water, the patterns ripple and shift never resting.

Okay, game on! I put a map up on the campaign info tab which I will update as we go along.

Taking stock of what the voice said, Zorek got up onto his feet, stretching out the kinks and aches. Then looking at his two other compatriots. One was a grey human, the other was an angel of some sort. This could get interesting.

"Well... that's reassuring."the Pit-born murmured sarcastically then took a more serious tone, "I suppose each of those chests is for us."

Zorek's eyes were drawn to the massive cast-iron chest. It seemed to... fit him, somehow. Striding over to the massive locker, he grabbed the edge and pulled the massive iron door open.

Well, well, well. the tiefling thought as he looked inside the locker, what do we have here.

Opening the chest and looking inside

Male Human Paladin/Sorcerer 1

Assessing himself for damage, Valens comes to the noose still hanging from his neck. "criminal? So this is some sort of hell. So be it then.

If you are to be my tormentors, let it begin. Or if you are fellow sufferers, may the gods have mercy on us all. Wait! The chests may be a trap."

Angel's warning comes too late, as Zorek had already opened the massive iron chest. Fortunately, nothing extraordinary happens. Inside are several objects. Most prominent is a massive two-handed sword made from black iron. The crossguard is shaped like a horned demon's head, the serpentine blade acts as its tongue. The hilt is wrapped in black leather and the pommel is a spiky iron thing, a weapon in its own right (masterwork greatsword). Lying underneath it is a suit of tungsten carbide-grey full plate armor, its helmet fashioned in the likeness of a ram's head (masterwork plate mail). In between the armor's boots are three potions, and a ring with a note tied to it.

Note:

This ring will keep you from dying of starvation or thirst. You will still feel the effects of these forces, you simply will be unable to die from them.

Love, Master

I think if he wanted to kill us in the first room, he would have done so himself, Celestial." Zorek said to the aasimar dryly. "He wants us to have a fighting chance, there's no reason why he would trap these. Now help me get this armour on."

Zorek grabbed the massive full-plate out of the chest and started to strap it on. It started to sink onto his shoulders comfortably, like he had been wearing it since the day he was born. It just felt...right.

"I have my gear celestial, why would I want to take yours as well? No, you can open up your gear." The tiefling replied, strapping the massive greatsword on his back for easy access.

"As you would have it, then. Let's see what this place has in store for us. Your armor makes me feel right at home.

The Angel walked boldly up to the white chest, lifting the lid.

Listens for a few moments as the others speak, but most of his attention is on the mark on his chest. He scowls at it, and after a moment's prodding, decides it won't be coming off. He stands then, slowly, and looks at the leather chest. Of the three, it is the one that is clearly meant for him. Meant for him as a trap or as a gift, he was unsure, but he was cautious as he approached it.

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

"Light and dark," he mutters, looking at the other two. "I suppose I'm here to split the difference, but I would not begin to guess at the plans of the creator of this place. Our survival is a matter of entertainment to him. This is bloodsport, and I wouldn't count on our host to take more than a sporting interest in our safety."

He stands behind the chest and uses a cantrip to open it, walking slowly around to look inside.

Inside the white chest the first things you see are a sword and shield. The sword is laid on top of the shield as it would be for a funeral pyre. The scabbard is white leather, with simple brass fittings. The sword itself is rather plain and traditional in appearance, with wide straight brass quillions and a circular brass pommel. Though the sword isn't decorated, the workmanship is quite good (Masterwork Bastard sword). The shield underneath it is a kite shaped affair. It is made of layered hard wood, with layers of the same white leather as the scabbard stretched and riveted over it. The center of the shield has a polished brass boss, containing the horizontal handgrip (masterwork small wooden shield). After pulling the sword and shield out, Angel finds a plain white cotton tabard, and doeskin breeches boots and belt. Underneath those are three potions along with a ring. The note attached to the ring reads the same way that Zorek's did.

Inside the small black leather chest Sai Ling finds a short curved blade in a glossy black sheathe. The guard is fashioned from a smokey translucent stone that resembles obsidian, in the shape of a black snake. The grip is wrapped in manta ray skin, and then covered with black leather cording (masterwork wakazashi). Folded beneath it is a set of silk clothing a sash with a large black lammelar plate sown in (masterwork Haramaki). Underneath that is a stack of matte black shurkien (15 shuriken) and three potions. There is also a ring with the same note attached to it.

"Well, doesn't look like there's much to do here anymore, and I don't know about you, but I think we probably should be heading out. No use standing around" Zorek said brusquely, "Can any of you tell what these potions do? I'd rather not ingest something that could seriously hurt me."

Zorek headed towards the door, leaning against the frame, ready to move out.

The hallway ahead is unlit, but since you all have darkvision you can see that it's empty.

Male Human Paladin/Sorcerer 1

Angel takes the items from the chest, slinging the shield on his back and swinging the sword a few times to check the balance, I know nothing of alchemy, but using your logic, they shouldn't be poisoned. Let's see what this place has in store for us. I say "Split the difference" goes first.

He says, gesturing toward Sai.

Fetchling Ninja/Sorcerer 1

Sai tests the balance of the sword and smiles, "Well, that's a good start, anyway." He takes the shuriken and puts the armor on, and moves around the room, letting the garment settle on his body until it fits like another skin.

Then he approaches the archway, his eyes exploring the chaotic patterns, searching for any suggestion of a catch or a trip.

Identify the properties of a magic item using detect magic (ie Potion). DC=15 + item's caster level

Identifying Potions: In addition to the standard methods of identification, PCs can sample from each container they find to attempt to determine the nature of the liquid inside with a Perception check. Round 1
Initiative 15

Sai Ling's shuriken crunches into the lead spider right amongst its cluster of beady eyes. There's a brief squirt of green ichor from the wound, but the arachnid continues forward.

Initiative 13

The lead spider (#1) lifts itself up high on its eight limbs and tucks it's abdomen forward under its thorax. Then the spinnerets on its belly begin to spray out thick strands of goopy webbing at Zorek.

Another spider (#3) moves up and throws a web at Sai Ling

Ranged Touch Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

But too much of the webbing lands on Zorek to effect Sai Ling.

The remaining two spiders (#2, 4) scuttle into the room and bite at Angel. #4 provokes from Zorek and Angel. #2 Provokes from everyone. Keep in mind only one AOO per round without combat reflexes.

Angel manages to fend off the spider in front of him with his bastard sword, but the spider behind him sinks its fangs deep into his calf muscle injecting it full of poison.

Once people give me their AOOs we can begin round 2. Since Zorek goes first, he can post his round 2 action with his AOO.

Attacking Spider 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage against spider 2: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11

Okay, couple things. Both probably my fault. A) Spider two died from your AOOs, so it never bit Angel. B) Breaking out of a web is a standard action. You also take a -4 penalty because you're caught in it. Sorry for not making that clear at the beginning.

Web Universal Monster Rule wrote:
An entangled creature can escape with a successful Escape Artist check or burst the web with a Strength check. Both are standard actions with a DC equal to 10 + 1/2 the creature’s HD + the creature’s Con modifier. Attempts to burst a web by those caught in it take a –4 penalty.

So from now on when AOOs are provoked combat is paused until they are resolved. Should have done that from the beginning but wasn't thinking.

So Zorek and Angel killed #2 with their AOOs, then Zorek tried and failed to get free. Since number #2 died, it didn't provoke from Sai Ling after all. Angel you can take your round 2 actions, then Sai Ling you can act after that.
