Al comes up behind Circe and puts a hand on her shoulder. "Sorry, ladies don't go first in the situation. Dash, go on ahead. Keep a lookout for more traps. I'll take the rear guard." He smiles down at her. "Keeping track of you is a full time job."

"Well THAT was fortuitous." Hemlock remarks, noticing how deep the pit goes, "Someone sure put some effort into that deathtrap. Anyone notice these undead look to be the locals? So something happened here, to these people. Plague, sickness, some nasty curse, but maybe that's what we are here to discover. Whatever caused this here may be related to what we found in town and we see how it affected this place. Imagine what might happen in a more populated area if left unchecked?"

"Now if we can just avoid any further mechanical devices of certain doom and dismemberment, we might just get out of here and find out more." Hemlock shoulders his satchel and continues walking onward.

Muttering as he goes along, "Solid stone...someone built this...floors look solid too...don't feel any breezes here so wherever we are going its enclosed. He will continue to use his Shared Insight ability as he can to provide everyone with a +2 to Perception.

Aky looks towards the undead that tries to leap across, a bit worried, but when it fails to make it to their side he quips "Have a nice trip, see you next fall". Turning back to others with a grin he nods in agreement about continuing on.

Working from home today. WIll update. Just what exactly to do with you.

The party travels down the hallway about 100 feet past the bend in the tunnel and reach a well made ornate metal door. There is a stylized face in the upper brace that appears to be sneering. The rest of the door has a stylized theme of clawed hands everywhere except the lock. The lock itself appears to be a small demonic face with long fangs. None of it appears to be any creature in particular, but more of an artistic statement. The door is a thick metal. Probably some sort of alloy.

Dash inspects the door and finds that it is magically locked. Though after a moment of fiddling with his tools he manages to open and bypass it. Apparently there's a trick to it and he is confident he can open and close it again without much issue.

Stepping forward Al opens the heavy door with some effort and looks beyond. He stands confused at the sight for just a moment. As nothing attacks others move past him to look at the room. You're all a bit startled at what you see. It's a very ornate and expensive living room. (approximately 40'X40') The walls are made of metal, but the room seems like it would otherwise fit quite well as a study in a rich man's house.

Some of the things I write you'll discover when you actually inspect the room. Though presently everyone is still standing in the doorway. Feel free to write them into your own narrative.

The floor is covered in a well made soft looking rug. There is a mahogany desk littered with papers in one corner complete with comfortable study chair. A modest, if well made fainting couch, given the setup probably used for sleeping. Even a small sitting area with four chairs around a wooden table. There's even a petistal in one corner with a wash basin and pitcher of clean water. There is also a curious cylindrical metal device in one corner. The area around it has obviously been kept clear. It radiates a comfortable warmth. It's hot to the touch, but not painfully so. Finally, near the wash basin stands a tall narrow cabinet. When you open it you find a number of shelves all with different plates of food. Those that should be served hot are and those that should be served cold are. (I'll let you make up the details, but it's about 8 shelves with various full meals). Opposite of the door you entered is an almost identical door. When he eventually goes to inspect it Dash will conclude that it's makeup is similar enough to the first that the thinks he can use the same trick to open it.

SInce I know you'll check the Pitcher of water, heater, and food cabinet all radiate minor magic while the doors radiate strong abjuration and just a dash of evocation .

It strikes you as odd that the room's not covered in dust. Just as that thought goes through your head everyone jumps as they notice small motion on the "sitting room" table. Anyone with spellcraft will recognize it as an unseen servant effect.

As the scene is everyone is standing just inside the door you entered which is still open. You can faintly hear the sound of the horde echoing across the walls behind you. Occasionally you will hear one of them falling to their deaths. (AkA they're still trying)

If you're looking at anything in particular in the room let me know and I'll provide detail. Other than that What are you doing and Everyone level up.

Seeing the room, Hemlock will mutter to himself, "Interesting" and then turn and looks for away to lock or bolt the door. "Whatever is in here is most unlikely to be worse that the horde out there.

Circe looks about the room in wonder. "You're right Hemlock, this looks like quite an elaborate set-up to have hidden underneath a deserted temple in an undead infested town. Shall we lay odds this little bolthole belongs to the person responsible for the undead infestation?"

Despite jumping in surprise when she finally notices the unseen servant, Circe gathers up a bunch of the papers, glancing over them as she does. "Well, our presence here is going to be obvious, so may as well take a few things to look at later."

Are they papers written in a language she can understand?"

"Dash, how is that other door coming? As nice as this room is, those undead things might make it to here eventually. Plus, I'd rather not be here when the owner of this room returns. Also, on the bright side, if all the undead are down here chasing after us, above ground should be clear for us to make a get away if we can get back up there."

Hemlock:

You look over the food. It all looks expertly made, though you're not really an expert on cuisine. You dab a bit experimentally to your tongue. It has none of the flavor notes that usually denote poison. Actually it's quite good. The fare itself is mostly a beef-like meat and mushrooms. Some of the more interesting looking plates appear to be large spiders cooked in a manner similar to how one cooks crab and other shellfish. You can't be sure, but you suspect all the items here come from underground. Dwarven fare you would guess. Again though, this isn't really your area of expertise. It's like seeing indian food. You don't really know much about it, but you recognize the smells and cooking techniques. You're nature roll lets you know the items themselves all appears to come from underground.

Circe:

The writing is a rune based language that you can't read. You've seen similar in the dwarven district though. It's probably that.

I forgot something.

There's a chamber pot in a corner. It's perfectly clean and radiates minor magic.

Al's stomach growls at the sight of the food, but he takes some looks at the papers. He spends some time staring at the lettering, but realizing that he cannot comprehend them, he puts them back. Are there any books or journals around the desk area?

The top right drawer contains a number of small uniform books bound in red leather. Dwarven runes cover the spines and front. The inside contains hand written dwarven writing.

The food is not poisonous.

The papers:

The majority of the papers are loose notes on a variety of subjects. The majority of those on top are about something called the necropolis. The red books are a traveling journals. With some study you realize that the loose papers are the draft and the better parts get transcribed into the books. The author refers to himself as a seeker. It'll take some time to get more than that. How long does Comprehend langages last?

Go ahead and pick your languages. If you want one of them to be dwarven it can be. Or you can make it random.

No traps on the desk.

As you look around the room you realize that the dimensions are odd. Also there are few minor abnormalities that you've seen before. In an extra dimensional space. You think this place was not only not made with magic, but isn't on the prime.

"There's plenty and it's good. Not sure what KIND of spider this was but whoever made it knew how to prepare it to be very tasty."

Not that Hemlock is particularly interested in chamber pots but this one does radiate magic so he'll at least give it a look, mostly to see if something inside it is magic, rather that IT itself is magic.

"I can only imagine the magics involved in a magical chamberpot but truly whoever was using this place was clearly used to a life of luxury."

Hemlock determines that the chamberpot cleans itself and removes "refuse" from inside.

Hidden within the artwork of the door the interior of the door seems to have a depressed button on it. You check the same spot on the other and it has an identical button, though this one is not depressed on the inside. You check the outside of the door and it has a similar button. It's a little complicated, but basically both doors have buttons that when pressed on the inside it depresses on the outside. You think perhaps the combination will do something but you're not sure what. Nothing stops you from speculating though.

Dash chuckles lightly as he is presented with the platter and takes one of the proffered spiders. He then proceeds to bite into the large arachnid almost as if it were an apple, getting a bit of juice on his chin, as he ponders the door in front of him. Suddenly, he stalks over to the door the group entered through and begins examining that one just as intently, which he then opens. Upon reentering the room he starts walking back to the far door, pauses halfway through the room to look back and forth at each door, and without saying a word, nods his head in a self-satisfied manner, as he thinks ::These buttons probably have something to do with where the doors lead... Let's see what's through door number 2 before messing with anything else,:: and proceeds to open the far door.

When Dash opens the door you see a passageway.

Brilliant colors are everywhere; pigments painted
on stone are undimmed by the passage of decades.
The floor is a colorful mosaic, featuring a distinct,
winding path of red tiles forming a 2-foot-wide,
meandering trail south down the corridor. A few
chips and gaps reveal that cement or plaster covers
the underlying stonework of the corridor, and it
mostly provides a smooth surface for the many
illustrated scenes.

The images depict fields with cattle grazing, a
copse with several wolves in the backgro u n d ,
slaves—human, orc, elven, and strange humananimal
mixtures of pig-human, ape-human, and
dog-human—going about various tasks.
Certain frescoes are more focused and show
rooms of some building—a library filled with
many books and scrolls, a torture chamber, and a
wizard’s work room. Chairs, windows, boxes, bales,
doors, chests, birds, bats, spiders, and all manner of
things appear on the walls.
