Zot would shake his head at the sound of the creature's plite, the idea of being forced into service was never something that sat with well with the Gnome. Speaking with a well practiced voice of sympathy, "My dear imp, I for one do not wish any creature of virtue or sin to be held within the confines of subjugation! If Zarta indeed does not speak otherwise, and your life forfeit for the sake of this item, simply return the item and leave with us. Seek redemption through Desna's light, or remain blinded and bound by your negligence!"
Zot would move his butterfly-shaped starknife before him, the holy symbol of Desna hanging from a weathered leather knot from the base of the blade's circular handle.
Given that the object in question has vanished, would it be alright to use that as "due harm" to our objective and contingency to act? If so I'd like to go ahead and cast bless at this time. If not I'll continue to hold my action until the invisibility "breaks." Assuming it is OK, Zot's "speach" will bring about the blessing of Desna as we try to help this Imp seek freedom, and possibly redemption if such a thing was possible!

"Get in here and shut the door! We don't want the thing flying out, do we?" Kegan yells as he steps to where he saw the Imp disappear and swings his blade. I wonder what the Imp meant by that?

Given it's old location, there is only one place it could have gone to avoid an AoO. Moved myself and attacked the square in that corner.

Einn would move forward and leave room for the others coming in behind her, hoping that one of them grabs the door on the way through. Holding the Light mace in her hand waiting for a chance to see something that needs hit.

![]() |

Sorry, been busy with work, apparently all my posts yesterday got eaten
Bumi would step through the door as well and wait to close it behind the last person in.
C'mon out, lil devil

![]() |

Everyone heads into the bedroom, Bumi closing the door behind them, where the Imp is responding aggressively, possibly moreso when Zot invokes a Good deity. Kegan swings but doesn't connect with anything. In turn a moment later, the Imp re-appears (large blackened metal box still clutched in its claws) just above Kegan, trying to stab him in the neck with its scorpion-like stinger!

Shaking his head in disapproval Zot would turn his attention to his comrades. "You have had your chance for redemption, now reap the consequences you Impolite Imp!" Zot would exclaim, beginning to enjoy the encounter.
Zot would take a 5 foot step ("free" move) and turn to Steven who had just moved in as he began to change his form, "My dear friend, may Desna's light guide you!"
Rubbing his thumb and fingers together, a gentle and cool prismatic misty aura would envelop Zot's hand as he touched Steve (Zot uses "Bit of Luck" on Steve). Removing his hand after the brief moment the aura would vanish completely as a sense of invigorating anticipation began to overcome Zot's face. "May fortune smile on you lad!"
Though one thing still troubled him, as Zarta had not spoken even once as to the desired condition of her imp. He would not hope to kill the creature, though he did recall her using "subdue" a number of times. Furthermore, he realized Kegan had been wounded, by what he did not yet know. Hopefully his allies would grant him the distractions needed to get to him if necessary.
Zot uses "Bit of Luck" on Steve in the hopes of aiding his next attack or combat maneuver against the imp! I leave it to GM and Player discretion if said action takes effect before or after Steve takes his action.

![]() |

Just to help people who don't know what everyone else's abilities are - the first time you use an ability, do me a favor and either put a link (Bit of Luck) to it, or spell it out for your fellows? No worries on this one since it's the first pbp for a lot of us!
Note - Now that we're all in the swing of things, "botting" will take place after ~30 hours if it's your turn, or you can "proxy" to let another player do it if you so choose/designate.
Will update once Steve takes his action (or is botted)

A bit of a learning curve, though thankfully we have a graceous GM here to help keep up on the right track! Thanks for the tip!
Zot watched with a moment of horror as he began to realize that using non-lethal force against the imp wouldn't be entirely possible. The devilish creature would have to face the consequences for it's actions possibly with it's life, a sad situation indeed.
Seeing the dire situation Kegan was in, Zot would move 20ft North behind Bumi and then directly west through Bumi to just diagonally North from Kegan attempting to skirt the edges of their Melee so as to not provoke an attack of opportunity from the imp. (Move action)
"By Desna's light we'll see this through mate!" Zot would say aloud, invoking his God's name to invigorate his comrade.
Looking as though Kegan be needing a bit of a touchup, Zot sacrifices Longstrider to spontaneously cast Cure Light Wounds! (Standard Action)
Cure Light Wounds, CL 1st: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Not seeing a great option Bumi will try and push the Imp away from Kegan (to get it to provoke moving in, though it's unlikely to work), as he does so his appearance changes a bit, taking on the appearance of the stonework around Zarta's house almost merging with the floor.
He'll spend his move action to gather power. Reduces the burn

Einn will take a step to the side opening up space for others or perhaps seeing if that trick of hitting things from both sides really does work flanking, holding the mace at the ready flaking bonus for anyone who wants it/ready for attack of oppertunity she starts to sing "Small and mischievous, does not mean you win, your prize will be taken..."
Using Raging Song-Inspire Rage
As a reminder "at the start of each ally's turn in which they can hear the raging song, the skald's allies must decide whether to accept or refuse its effects". For ease, +2 Str & Con, +1 Will Saves, -1 AC are the big ones.

Sorry, should have set up a Parry-Riposte spoiler. I'll try to remember to do that from now on.
Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Kegan accepts the song gladly! It doesn't improve his to hit since he is using finesse, but will help damage and his poor Fort save!
Kegan evidently likes the song, he immediately steps back giving Einn her flanking position and then attacks the Imp again.
Attack, Zarta's MW Silver Dagger, flank: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 8
Damage, song: 1d4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 1 = 2
If the Imp continues to attack me, I would like to use my Opportune Parry and Riposte. If it goes invisible, just use the Riposte as my AoO since that has both an attack and damage roll.
Parry: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Riposte attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7

GM Dire, If you have a better way of doing the Parry/Riposte please let me know.

Zot is able to heal all of the wounds that Kegan had sustained while Bumi's blast goes slightly too high.
Einn's song of rage elicits a soft "mmm, that's a nice, primal sound..." from the Paracountess still sitting in her office merrily reading, but Kegan's blow, however inspired, also goes wide.
Kegan - your way of doing it is perfect, actually - you won't need to mark off Panache unless the attack actually happens too - so good call there!
Steve, however, is able to connect with his teeth on the Imp which was so concerned with the swashbuckler before, although it does slightly less than it should have. (But one more than Steve put down due to the Raging Song effect!)
The Imp looks a little bit bloodied, but seems to quickly heal most of the damage that got through his supernatural defenses, and with a shriek of "Stop that singing this instant!" will attempt to slip past Einn's mace, as well as avoid Kegan's blade and Steve's bite!

He strikes as soon as she moves into position.
5' step, ready an action to attack when Einn moves.
I'm going to just roll it now, assuming the flank. Please adjust if needed.
Attack, Zarta's MW Silver Dagger, flank: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 9

At this point, I would normally be checking that I am using the d20 and not a d10 or d12.

Map does not currently reflect my position right next to Einn as I needed to be here to cast Cure Light Wounds on Kegan. I believe this would provoke an attack of opportunity as the creature would move from my diagonal attack reach to inside Einn's Square. If so I have my star knife currently equipped to hold up my holy symbol.
"Foul devil, such a horrible appreciation for music!" Zot would allow the benefit of the song to take him over as the Imp would attempt to move in.
AoO Melee with Starknife (if applicable): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Confirm Crit Melee with Starknife: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 213d3 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) + 6 = 11 (+0 BaB, +2 Strength, +1 Size, +2 Flank, x3 Crit)
Doubt it will actually put a dent into the creature, even with a max roll I'm sure I won't bypass any DR but worth a shot for the crit! Hope this works, if not just ignore this part!
As Zot swings about his blade he would let it drop from his hand. In one fluid motion he would then grab his Morningstar and allow the weapon to swipe down from under the imp, hoping to distract it in such a way to force it to miss it's next attack.
Aid Another: Melee with Morningstar for Kegan: 1d20 + 0 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 0 + 2 + 1 = 7 (+0 BaB, +2 Strength, +1 Size, +2 Flank)
+2 to AC against the creature's next attack against those adjacent to me. If an ally must be chosen, Einn will gain the benefit. Sorry the Aid Another isn't specific with regards to the AC bonus so mentioning both if necessary.

![]() |

Zot, if that's where you moved yourself to during your turn, you wouldn't be in range to get an AoO? I'm just confused since I haven't moved any of your characters on the map except for initial placement.

![]() |

Given my failed attempt at what is going on, I'll try to compensate by mentioned what I had hoped to suggest in my following "round"
"This foul imp isn't our objective, that box is! Somebody smack the box out of that imp's hands and we can deal with punishment after, who is with me?!" Zot would exclaim aloud invigoratingly, attempting to wave his morningstar about to frustrate the Imp with an energy he hadn't felt since his youthful times with Varisian traveling Bards.
My hope was to give someone the +2 to AC so that whoever used the CM Disarm untrained would have a better chance negating the retaliating AoO. Sorry again for all the confusion!

There would be flanking if you took a 5' step back. If you don't move, no flanking and the Imp doesn't need to move in order to attack you. Also, maintaining a song is a free action, not a move action.

Zot, you get benefit of the doubt, being that this is your first PbP, your crit will hit and confirm. Once Bumi posts, I'll update from there :)
Something else I forgot to note was that the "bot" timer ignores weekends - only weekdays, so Bumi's still got a bit :)

Thanks for the understanding DireGM! I'm slowly learning as I go and still trying to read up on the PbP forums resources so stuff like this doesn't happen again. Would eventually like to run my own PbP though it seems I still have a bit to learn! Thanks again!

A minute or so later, the doors to the office open and Zarta is standing there, giving you soft applause.
"Bravo, my little morsels, bravo. The box is yours. Now, if you'd like to keep those little trinkets too..." Her piercing eyes drift to the silver-tipped riding crop and the letter opener. "You can, but only if at least two of you promise to come back and visit me when you have spare time."
~~~~~
After parting "pleasantries" with the Paracountess, your party makes its way down to the Docks district, and "The Pickled Imp".
This creepy shop contains myriad odds and ends, most bereft of any discernible use. A number of malformed creatures and creature parts bob in jars on a long, prominent shelf, a tiny fetal devil centered in this macabre lineup. The shopkeeper, a greasy-haired Varisian with a thin mustache, shouts from behind the cluttered counter:
“Ah yes, I see the Pathfinders have arrived. I’ma glad Ambrus was able to lend a few of his new recruits-a to help me. Please-a come in and letta me tella you what I need.”
Looking around as if to be absolutely certain no customers are browsing the aisles of knock-off Thuvian burial urns or supposed Azlanti porcelain, he begins again.
“Wella met. I am-a Guaril Karela. A friend a mine has a warehouse near here and he received a parcel on behalf of me and a-some a my associates, but there’s a problem. See, Master Gelbane had-a to leave town in a hurry and our shipment is still-a waiting at his warehouse.
Rumor is he ended up in-a trouble with the law and the place-a was a-seized. I heard-a tell from someone down at the docks that some creep was snooping around his warehouse a-just the other night, so I want to make-a sure nothing of mine was taken. He keeps all kinds of things, from beer to nails, in that-a old a-pelican, but every now and then he-a stores something really special. This is one of those cases.
“There’s a big-a crate marked with three crows arranged in a triangle. Inside that-a crate is a smaller container with a few books and a-papers in it. That’s the only parcel I’m interested in, and as far as I’m concerned, you can-a help yourself to the rest of the crate.
Honestly, anything else you want in the place too. I’m sure the once things-a get-a sorted out, the city will seize-a most everything else anyway.
“My associates and-a I often work with-a the Pathfinders when it comes to special-a relics and documents, getting them in and out of ports and across borders where the authorities ask-a too many questions. Most-a people don’ta realize what-a they have and frankly many don’t deserve to have it, so sometimes we help-a take-a da goods offa their hands. If things work out well and you get this done, I’da be glad to talk with you more and help you out with any future endeavors, as long as you help me out too. I’ma good ata returning favors, trusta me!”
![]() |
Zarta
"Though I can not speak for the others, it would be my pleasure to visit with you again Paracountess!"
---
Guaril
"Find a box marked with a triangle of ravens. You want the books and papers inside. Right! Seems simple enough!"
Gleefully, he looks to the others "Ready?!?!"
![]() |
Zarta and to the others!
"Wow, well done everyone! Truly impressive indeed!" Zot would reflect after the Imp had fallen. "Also Bumi, I'm starting to get an idea why you were so well adapted in the mines. Your ability with handling dirt and stone is no doubt useful!"
Shaking his head Zot would look at the poor imp on the ground and obtain the box in question if nobody else would do the same. "So lost, hopefully the poor thing is satisfied with his choice to remain in subjugation. It definitely gave us a run didn't it?"
After the Paracountess would provide us with our due praise, Zot would up admirably to his comrades knowing full well he wouldn't have been able to even make it this far without them. Turning to Zarta Zot would reply, "If doing so would entail perhaps exploring and admiring what dining services you provide here you can count on me returning! That is assuming the Society doesn't call us elsewhere before then. I think we all can agree a good meal is much overdue. I've worked up quite the appetite!" Zot would say, hoping to play on Zarta's mention of morsels.
---
Guaril
Arriving with all the others involved Zot would have offered the others along the trip help "spicing up" any food they were interested in. Pulling out one of his own rations he'd start eating some of his seasoned dried fruit and jerky. Before stepping before Guaril Zot would politely finish his food before entering.
"Now hold on friend, it would likely help to get an idea of what to expect, yes?" turning back towards Guaril, Zot couldn't help but to ask, "If indeed the individual has fallen out of the Laws good favor, will it be safe to assume that we would be allowed on the property without ill view from others? Will we perhaps be provided a waiver or warrant of sorts?"
Zot would shrug, "Unless this is more of a questionable situation for those in Law Enforcement, in which case I just want to make sure nobody innocent or the Society get wrongly implicated or harmed while we look into this for you. Sure it would be bad business if we didn't take all situations into account, yes?"
Diplomacy: Improve Guaril's Attitude: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Zarta
"I think arrangements can be made to assist in such an evening." Einn would mention, "If there was a specific type of entertainment you were looking forward to?
Guaril
Einn looks thoughtful for a moment and after Kegan speaks up. "Shall I take then possibility of showing up as your agents to deliver the box is not going to be possible due to the interest of say the watch or Master Gelbane's other associates? None of which will be willing to part with this object?"
![]() |
"Does it matter so much what some silly papers say?"
Gesturing to Guaril, Kegan says "He says the items are his. The Society evidently approves of his task. Seems clear enough to me!"
What was that alignment again? Oh, right! It is right in the name!
![]() |
Zarta
Bumi's happy to offer himself up as tribute, though that may or may not go over well.
Guaril
Get box of crows, give papers, keep stuff. Odd work if you ask me, sounds doable though.
![]() |
Zarta is quite impressed with Zot's turn of phrasing, and says that she looks forward to a "sampling platter" later on.
As for Karela - he just smiles with bright white teeth, and through them gives assurances that nothing that you're doing will be bothered with by "law enforcement persons".
Regardless, you aren't really able to get much more out of Karela (except Steve, who discovered a Fine-sized bright orange "pickled imp" floating in green brine that somehow Guaril Karela managed to sell him for a few silver pieces), and you find yourselves heading to the piers of the Dock District.
Perched on the end of a long pier fifteen feet above the water, the warehouse appears to struggle against its own roof, threatening to sag into the bay below. No light shines from the building’s windows and only the movement of gulls and pelicans stirs the scene.
This building looks abandoned and in disrepair. The windows are dark and dirty and provide no view into the structure’s interior. A small boat bobs in the water below, tethered to the pier by a stout, salt-crusted rope.
![]() |
Given the "wave" of concern given the location Zot would take it in stride knowing at this point that he was pushing the limits of the "favor" for the Pathfinders. Hopefully his tact would insure at least some favor going forward. "Then consider the job done, we'll be back with the requested missing shipment before too long."
Zot pulls out his seasoned journal, pulls out the feathered pen and scribbles in his note:
Untrained Knowledge (local): 1d20 ⇒ 12
Profession (cook) if applicable: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20; 1 rank + 3 Class + 3 Wis + 2 Racial: Profession (cook); for purpose of determining of any unique or questionable ingredients being traded from the area.
Returning the journal and pen back into his side belt pouch, Zot would await for the others outside before traveling on. Once at the docks Zot would inquire, "Seems like a simple enough place fallen to prey of negligence. And so dark and questionable at that! Desna sure has set me on quite the journey today!"
Glancing towards the lofty boat Zot would wonder if it would be of any use. "Well, I'd be up for trying to grab this here boat for a few of us while the others try the front entrance?" Zot would suggest excitedly. Its been far too long since he set his foot into a boat, though he was sure this wasn't going to be quite the same as his memory would imply.
Zot would take a moment to glance over the building before looking more closely at the boat to check its integrity. (two-move actions for actively seeking out details in the environment)
Perception (notice fine details): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12; 0 rank + 0 Class + 3 Wis + 2 Racial: Perception for building
Kegan goes over and looks more closely at the boarded up window and the wall at the end of the dock. "What sort of warehouse doesn't allow loading and unloading from carts? How were they supposed to transport things to land?" he asks, obviously puzzled.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
![]() |
Einn will move up and taking a look around the area. "Something purely water based? Hard for people to get in and out unnecessarily if the only access is via this dock and the water. Interesting if that's the case."
![]() |
With a shrug, Kegan says "Guess we take the row boat."
![]() |
Pondering aloud, "For someone who had a 'recent' shipment, this place seems a bit more abandoned than what what I think we were led to believe. Either way, it is a good fall down to the water. Not sure how well this rope will hold up either."
Taking his hemp rope out, Zot would add a final note before turning towards Bumi and Steve curios as to their input. "I've got enough rope to get us down to the Boat at this point, though getting back into the Warehouse from the boat though may be another rub all together!" Zot would explain, moving the rope in his hand in a circular motion towards his head so as to hint to his own meaning.
Hopefully I read the description right, seems we are in low tide and have 15 feet from water's surface to the bottom of the pelican warehouse?
Harrumph, I much prefer land to water. Dwarves sink ya' know. But if we must, betta be off now, ain't got no time to be wastin'. But ya'll oughta know I herd bout docks like this one right here b'fore. Might be that there's some less than friendly sorts round. Kepp an eye peeled yea.
Perc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
![]() |
(Sorry for the delay - had internet problems last 36 hours)
While some of the slats outside the door are a little rickety, the frame of the warehouse is rather solid. There is a thin but sturdy ledge that wraps around the entire structure, allowing people to move around to the sea-side loading doors, which look like they've seen a bit of activity within the last week or so.
The boat is sturdy and safe - just hasn't been used for awhile.
(Zot is correct, the dock/warehouse "floor" is 15 feet above sea level)
![]() |
"Well, it looks safe, might as well give it a go!" Zot would insure he could see a row to help propel the boat before proceeding.
Hoping to use his own rope to climb down, Zot will attempt to climb down, using the beams of the Pier to help brace against before getting down to the boat itself.
Climb: Down the rope to the boat: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 +1 Str Mod, thinking DC 5 given my own rope and using the Beam for support?
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 -1 Dex Mod in case I fail my climb check
Assuming all goes well,"Hah! Never been much for traveling by rope. At least I'm still in one piece. Who's next?"
Looking down at the boat, Kegan says "Perhaps I should go along the ledge so we can open the doors." I hope the doors aren't locked!
He will slowly edge out along the ledge to the sea-side doors.
Acrobatics to balance, take 10: 10 + 7 = 17
Once there, he will try to open the doors.
Bumi will dig through his pack and pull out some supplies before Kegan heads off. He grabs a hammer and 4 pitons in the dungoneering kit and some silk rope. Mebbe you can make a rail ta halp da rest of us. Prolly give away dat we're here, but don't look like nobody's home no how
Either way Bumi will follow Kegan.
Acro: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 Hopefully some extra help if Kegan sets up the rope
Kegan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Kegan notices that the loading doors are barred from the inside and will not open. He *does*, however, notice a tiny glint of gold hidden between two wooden slats near the corner of the warehouse. Bending in to take a look, he sees that it is a carefully hidden key!
Nice time for a nat 20
