Given the importance of a druid's animal companion, I created a separate alias for Chaandra the lioness. I assume that picking a hunter with a large appetite as an animal companion should create some interesting problems getting sufficient provisions.

Just don't let her eat Edgar. :P

I'm sure the farmers around Hommlet will be overjoyed to see your companion.

"Free" and "Club" are two of my favorite words!

How do you wish to handle Animal Companion's 2d8 hit points?

Shadow Lodge

Lawful Neutral Medium Humanoid Level 36 Game Master

Animal companions receive average hit points per hit die. For d8, the average is 4.5. Multiply 4.5 times the number of hit dice your animal companion has and round down. So, at first level, the hit points would 4.5 multiplied by 2 HD, or 9 total. Then add any Constitution or other modifier.

Recalculate hit points for your companion in this manner each time it gains additional hit dice. After its hit points are calculated, add in appropriate bonuses from its Constitution modifier, feats, and so on.

Just realized that Hommlet is probably in Grayhawk, not in Golarion, so I should be more carefull not to invoke Golarion gods anymore, right?

On a side note, I'm a European working in Africa, so my posting times are probably going to be quite different than the rest of you States based boys&girls.

Edit: additional question - I saw hero points on someone's character sheet, are we using them?

We are going to translate the game from Greyhawk to Golarion, so that we are compatible with the Pathfinder setting, deities, etc. For purposes of simplification, I will pick a location (probably in Varisia) that Hommlet and its surroundings are located.

When you post, see if it gives you a drop-down box to pick from more than one character. The box would be at the bottom of the text box you type in, labeled Post As. If you have multiple avatars, it will display your choices to post as. You can go into your primary setup and choose one of them to be the default that shows at the top of the list.

Just a reminder, if you have an animal companion or a familiar, please put together the stats for the creature and provide them as well.

Guys, I'm having a Level 1 feat crisis. I'm normally a fighter/caster so the role of buffer is rather new to me. I seem to be the party's Illusionist/Buffer and can support Rafael (who is the party face?) in all things diplomatic/bluffy.

I don't normally like taking skill focus and the only reason I was taking it was to qualify for Eldritch Heritage: Elemental(air) or Arcane. With no bonus feats to speak of I can't get Lingering Performance, Pageant of the Peacock, Spellsong or any of the good bardic performance feats until lv 5.

Should I switch to the bardic feats first and wait to take Eldritch Heritage til higher levels? I'm not even sure how many levels ToEE is built for.

Feats I'm considering:

Lingering Performance: This is really a must. BP lasts 2 rounds after I stop.

Spellsong: I can disguise spellcasting as a bardic performance or use it to maintain concentration spells (like Silent Image).

Pageant of the Peacock: Use Bluff check (and 1 BP/10 minutes) instead of any INT based skill checks.

Extra Performance: Extra 6 rounds of BP a day

Eldritch Heritage: 1d6 elemental ray (3+CHA times a day)-or- Familiar/Arcane Bonded Item

I don't think I'm going to take any crafting feats at this point either unfortunately. Someone else may want to consider taking Brew Potion

The 1986 "super module" version of "Temple" was written for first edition and covers levels one to eight. It had ties to other modules which could stretch the story to level 14.

I usually play fighters or combat oriented clerics so I can't really help with feat selection good luck.

Some of you never saw the 1966 movie I am sure.

I believe lingering performance is great at first level, especially for action economy. Given I will develop natural attacks, inspiration will stack with many attacks a round!

Rafael: I'm having a difficult time figuring out Edgar's capabilities as you are currently displaying them in the area of communication.

On the one hand, a Raven has the ability to speak a language as a supernatural ability, and in this case it would be Common (or any language of your choosing, actually).

However, I'm not certain how much a bird with an Intelligence of 6 would be able to communicate things it sees in an understandable manner. At his current level, Edgar's communication would mostly be an empathic link (emotions). He would not be able to speak intelligently to you until he reaches 5th level and an Intelligence of 8.

Your thoughts?

It didn't occure to me that it could work like that. If that's true I will have to correct it, since a raven must have high enough Int to speak a Language. And on that note, do familiars really have racial modifiers or it was PCGen glitching again? Because if not, I could adjust the stats more freely.

Male Human (Ulfen) Fighter 2/Ranger 1 HP 16/30 | AC19 T13 FF16 | CMD19 | F+6 R+4 W+3 | Init +4 | Perc +8 | SM +1

1)Int 3 used to be normal animal intellengence in older versions of the game, I'm not sure but it appears that animal int is rated lower than that now.

2)"A raven familiar can speak one language of its master's choice as a supernatural ability." (from the PRD, don't have CRB with me at the moment).

That kicks in at first level, altough the Raven does have an Int of 6 like all other 1st level wizard familiars. Familiars without that ability (all non ravens as far as I know) start talking to their Master when the Wizard hits 5th level, but I'm not sure if that is actual languge use or not. At this point a wizard's familiar, including a raven, Int is 8.

3)The defination of average ability score has changed since the '70s when the 3 to 18 scale was first used. In Pathfinder average is "10-11".

I hope this helps.

So, if I interpret it correctly, I stat him as a person, but start his Int at 10 and can't go below 8. It could be like a necessity for ravens.

Male Human (Ulfen) Fighter 2/Ranger 1 HP 16/30 | AC19 T13 FF16 | CMD19 | F+6 R+4 W+3 | Init +4 | Perc +8 | SM +1

I don't think so. Your Raven's Int is 6, but because he has a "supernatural ability" for language. I think you should his Int as 8 for language and communications. 8 Int being the Int non raven familiars have when they gain the ability to speak to their masters.

The GM may have a better understanding than I do.

My interpretation is that you stat a familiar starting with the basic animal of choice (which determines such things as ability scores, skills and feats that occur naturally). Then, you take that animal and tweak its basic stats by applying the extra bonuses it gains by being a familiar. So, in this case, you would start by using the basic stats of a Raven, shown --> HERE (which mentions that as a familiar Rafael gets a +3 bonus to Appraise checks); and then, you take that Raven animal and apply the changes shown in the familiar rules, which are --> HERE (scroll down past the list of animals until you reach Familiar Basics and Familiar Ability Descriptions, which shows the changes you make to the base creature).

A plain Raven has an Intelligence of 2, for example, but Edgar has his INT raised to 6 as a familiar...and so on for HD, HP, Saving Throws, Skills, and natural armor adjustment. I think you will see Edgar come out different doing the stats "the old fashioned way," but more in compliance with the core rule book.

Yeah ok, I will write and upload the new sheet. As for the matter of whether he can speak properly, I have no idea. I never saw any reference or clarification on the subject (even now that I read the links). I took for granted that he could talk like a person (supernatural ability and all) and it's more fun this way.

Shadow Lodge

Lawful Neutral Medium Humanoid Level 36 Game Master

I made up a sample (quickly, so may not be 100% accurate) that you can use for Edgar, and uploaded it to the FB files.

This is a question for the party. Since we have three people with moderate amounts of Diplomacy (but nothing in Sense Motive), when we actually have to talk to someone as a group, can we agree that the other two aid the person who either spoke first or the person with the higher Diplomacy check? It might help clear up the confusion when we're all rolling 3 Diplomacy checks to influence one person.

Not a bad idea. May I also suggest someone with a good Wis mod invest on sense motive also (or anyone for that matter)?

At level 2 my perform(oratory) becomes My Diplomacy and Sense Motive check from the Versatile Performance ability. It'll be a +8 to both at level two and will continue to level every level. I do not have quite the bonuses that Rafael has though for diplomacy.

I have no problem with either approach to Diplomacy. In games I run, I usually just have the highest person be the actual roll and treat the others as Aid Another checks.

Same here in terms of eastern armor. Unless there is a very good reason why one or more pieces would available, we simply do not consider them.

Such armor would not be available in this adventure or area. Standard equipment would be more in line with the flavor of the adventure.

Sounds horrible Garm. One thing I take to kill all lingering illnesses:

1 chamomile tea - normal size single bag serving/hot water
1 "Emergen-C" packet mixed in
1 tablespoon chopped fresh garlic
1 tablespoon chopped fresh ginger
Mix and swallow. It tastes horrible but always does the trick.

My job requires me to fly weekly and am constantly exposed to airborne crap, I swear by this concoction.
