This side room contains a small library, and a number of interesting old maps are framed and hang upon the walls. Two comfortable leather captain’s chairs are drawn up to a curious table made from a small preserved owlbear. A decanter half full of red liquid and a leather case lie on the bizarre table. One map is missing from the walls.

The other maps depict various regions of the Inner Sea, and two of these are quite old and fine, depicting Ustalav and Osirion; these two are worth 75 gp each. Pasted to the back of another map is a scroll of raise dead. The table is mounted on the distorted form of an owlbear, which has been somehow shrunk and dislocated so that the creature lies on its back and supports the tabletop with its claws and beak. The macabre table is bulky and heavy, but worth 250 gp. The decanter is made of exquisitely etched crystal containing a superb vintage of red wine, a rare Taldan style. In total it is worth 100 gp; the wine alone is worth 40 gp. The leather case contains seven crystal goblets worth 25 gp each.

Howard frowns, and chews his lip thoughtfully.

Well, there is certainly evidence of ghoulish eccentricity, but nothing explicitly criminal, as of yet...

He shrugs, and Shifts west again, intending to float upstairs.

Bookshelves stacked with various books and folders, as well as bizarre curios, line two of the walls of this wide-open room. A sturdy wooden desk accompanied by a stuffed leather chair sits in one corner of the room, while a small table in the opposite corner holds a taxidermic monkey posed like it’s playing a tiny violin. Unnerving paintings cover the wood-paneled walls.

The first painting depicts a strangely angular landscape, the second painting a sunken submerged city with strange lights glowing in the sodden streets, the third painting a stage in a grand theater upon which some sort of mad cavorting dance takes place,and the last painting a gruesome cloaked figure standing in a blasted alien landscape.

Another Miacknian Mun is pacing up and down the room restlessly with a brooding expression on his face.

This chamber is a veritable museum. The dozens of books, jars, and glass containers of various sizes placed on nearly every horizontal surface in this lab contain chemicals, unidentifiable sludge, the dissected bodies and alien-looking parts of creatures, and a rainbow of various slimes, molds, and fungi. Some of the largest containers are draped with a thick brown cloth. The overpowering stench of bleach, ammonia, and other unidentifiable chemicals fills the air.

The floor in this room is sticky in some places and slick in others, a result of years of spilled alchemical reagents. The chemical smell is nearly overwhelming, causing the throat to burn and eyes to water, but is otherwise not harmful.

The covered jars contain the eviscerated and dissected flesh and bones of an old man; the upper torso and head of a ghoul; the spine, head, and one wing of a mi-go; and a large jar labeled “Number 61.”

Number 61 floats in its jar like a drowned sheet caught in an unseen current, resembling some strange, amorphous sea creature. A humanoid face that seems to mouth silent words appears within the gracefully roiling folds of itself.

Howard observes Number 61, and notices that when its face appears and its mouth tries to make words, the unfortunate creature seems to be pleading with him before folding in on itself once again. The next time the face comes around in its constant swirl, the thing rolls to seemingly peer up at the large rubber stopper at the top of the jar.

Howard also notices two patchworks of rotten cloth and grotesque skin, with stray bits of straw poking out the seams.

Howard recognizes them as skinstitches and suspects that they have swarms in them.

He also notices a ladder stacked against the eastern wall leading to the celling.

He also knows his invisibility spell is going to wear out very soon.

Howard touches the jar, then uses his Dimension Door spell-like ability (so there are no verbal or somatic components) to pop outside. He then packs the jar into his Bag of Holding, before Shifting back into the level above.

Yeah, swarms are not something that I can deal with right now. Its on my 'to do' list ;-)

EDIT: Whilst outside, he will also 'refresh' his Invisibility.

The room is pitch black, but Howard can see perfectly fine.

The smell of chemicals and flesh fill the room. What first appear to be curtains hanging throughout the room turn out to be scores of skins, taken in unimaginable agony judging by the looks on the faces that waft eerily in an unseen breeze.

Sagging ropes tied through rings in the walls of this room form a lattice, from which hang dozens of humanoid skins, each taken in mostly one piece. They hang like sinewy curtains across the room as shown on the map.

A sobbing Miacknian Mun mumbles to himself, while clutching a tattered piece of paper, "Soul, Ship, Protector, Swivel."

Now this looks more promising...

Mindful of the hanging skins (which could be hiding practically anything), Howard checks the room for other occupants, before returning to have a chat with 'Mun'.

Howard spots Farmer Gower's skin hanging among one of them, as well as Alchemist Gotsu's. As he looks at one of the skins that looks like Herbalist Khele, when a pale blue humanoid with bulging white eyes, wild hair and four-fingred hands with a large hooked club appears next to him. Another pale blue humanoid with bulging white eyes, wild hair with four arms and four fingered hands wielding a shortsword and a club step out from behind Herbalist Khele's skin and starts slashing and clubbing at him.

Howard also sees another small pale blue humanoid peek out from under the curtains and give him a nasty glare, as he reaches out to touch the pale blue humanoid wielding the shortsword and club.

Surprised by the sudden appearance, Howard quickly recovers, and attempts to splat the one that attacked him.

I know, just good old fashioned stealth and cover, with small. Without see invisibility, you would not have seen the ladder.

Howard strikes at his attacker, but his attacker, surprisingly agile, weaves away from all but one claw. 11 dmg done.

Howard tries to identify them.

Howard has no idea what they could be. The pale blue humanoid scurries out of the way and Howard rakes at him with his claws, but misses.

The blue creature touches the 4 armed creature.

Gritting his teeth in annoyance, Howard decides that he needs to get big.

As Howard expands in size, his enormous head hits the celling and he hears a rumbling sound, as if something is stiring. He also hears the floorboards creak under his immense weight.

The smaller pale blue humanoid stammers,"Uh-oh." Then his duplicate appears next to Howard as he touches the four-armed creature another time, then takes a step back. 5ft

The 4 armed humanoid steps up, then continues attacking Howard.

Howard manages to hover, with his head bumping against the ceiling, which is looking dented. He sees where he was last standing, the floorboards crushed and warped. The four armed creature manages to duck, and weave, if barely avoiding all of Howard's attacks.

A duplicate of the blue humanoid appears next to Howard and the 4 armed humanoid attacks.

@Mort: FYI, the 15 was actually incorrect - I had updated my character sheet, but not my macros. My 'base' (prior to monstrous physique) is now +17, not that it apparently matters.

You are right that I did not include the additional -2 penalty. That takes the 'to hit' of my highest attack roll to 29. Please tell me that hits!

Seeing that he can't hit the creature, and yet it continues to hit him easily, Howard shrugs.

The 4 armed humanoid hisses as he sees his buddy pounded to the ground and now without his illusionary buddy, tries to attack Howard.

Howard's savage claw attacks leave him barely standing, and he leans against the wall for support, stares straight at Howard, panting heavily, blood trickling from his lip as he summons some unknown reserves as his wounds heal slightly. (5 hp healed)

Then he lunges desperately at Howard his shortsword and hooked club flashing.

Howard bites the four armed humanoid’s head off, and his body tumbles to the ground. At that moment, with a sound like thunder, the ceiling shatters sending splinters flying in all directions as large lumbering bulk of something tree-like and black with too many tentacles tumbles through the ceiling crashing to the floor in an enormous thud.

stabilized blue humanoid ref save: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Miraculously Howard and the blue humanoid manage not to get hit by the splinters.

Howard has no idea what the creature is.

The floor, already weakened from Howard’s abuse, breaks on impact, sending the creature and the two blue humanoid bodies tumbling down to the floors below.

Howard pounces on the creature and rips it apart in a frenzy of bite and claw. He sees above that the skin stitches following their defense protocols have released 2 swarm swarms that are....well, swarming around.

Howard recognizes them as hell wasp swarms,and their stings are poisonous.

The Miacknian Mun on the second level moves towards Howard, fully intending to engage him in fisticuffs.

dmg: 6d10 + 9 ⇒ (9, 5, 6, 4, 3, 3) + 9 = 39

Howard takes a bite out of him, damaging him badly and eww, does he taste bad. Like Formaldehyde. 39 dmg to the creature

The Miacknian Mun gets enraged at Howard attacking him and tries to punch him in the face, but Howard ducks out of the way.

The other Miacknian Muns on the first floor go into evacuation protocol, with one flicking the switch by the wall before moving out of the house.

Grab the corpse of the other blue man, then Dimensional Step out of the house? Following that, I will confirm that the unconscious man is actually stable, then summon Claude to me, and have him help me lug the bodies back to the watch house? If granted permission (given the highly dangerous creatures that remain in the building, I will then come back to 'clean house'?

As Howard slays the large black woody creature, he receive a chaotic image of hundreds of faces all flickering between one another, and hears, “It sends its tendrils through their minds to gather its strength, but despite your knowledge you are clean. You can stop it. Don’t let it infect this world and serve it to Carcosa.”

Howard manages to pick up the decapitated blue 4 armed humanoid and dimensional steps the heck out of there. He checks that the blue humanoid is still breathing (which he is), then starts frisking them for valuables.

The unconscious blue humanoid has +1 leather armor, +1 short sword and a potion of CLW.

The other body has +2 darkleaf cloth studded leather armor, 3 potions of Cure serious wounds, duelist vambraces, +1 short sword, +1 akyls, cloak of resistance +2, handy haversack, alchemy crafting kit, thieves’ tools, 30 gp and an alchemist formula book containing the following formulae for the following extracts:greater invisibility, monstrous physique II, cure serious wounds, displacement, heroism, thorn body, barkskin, see invisibility, invisibility, resist energy, cure light wounds, deathwatch, expeditious retreat, long arm, shield, heightened awareness.

Claude looks at the unconscious blue humanoid and begins to start sniffing at the body, while salivating. He gives Howard a hurt look and a growl when Howard decides to use him as a beast of burden to drag both bodies to the Watch.

Howard notices that the blue humanoid seems to grow paler, his breathing labored as Claude drags his body down the sunny streets

The watchwoman on duty, Constable Rachel, asks why Howard why he has come to the station, and why he has someone dragging a derro behind him.

Howard breathes a sigh of relief.

"Thank-you, Claude. I'd drag them there myself, but it would probably attract the wrong sort of attention."

When he is sequestered with his Guard contact, Howard outlines everything that he discovered:

1) The location
2) The trap on the front door
3) The numerous 'copies' of Mun
4) The weird decor
5) The swarm constructs
6) The Blue men
7) The room of skins (including the three that I knew of)
8) The horrible thing that fell through the ceiling.

"Basically, I brought this one back for interrogation, but there is still plenty of evidence there. It is pretty dangerous, though - if it's alright with you, I might 'pacify' the location."

Before I do, though, I will go on a shopping spree - specifically, to pick up a Swarmbane clasp for Claude.

Swarmbane: 1d100 ⇒ 38 - available. Phew!

The blue humanoid wakes up when Howard taps him with the wand, squints and tries to squirm away, as if the sun was hurting him.

"OK - do you mind if we take custody of the derro? From what we know about them, they're mad, sadistic b@stards who enjoy experimenting on humans."Constable Rachel has the derro carted off to a holding cell, before Seargent Henry comes out and brings Howard to the private room.

Seargent Henry nods, as Howard explains the situation. "Thats indeed disturbing news. Do you know what happened to the real Miacknian Mun? Do you think he's behind all this?" Seargent Henry asks Howard.

Yes I know to you the evidence might be clear, but there's this Thieves guild in Absalom that goes around kidnapping influential people, then making copies of them and send those copies to do criminal acts,then blackmailing them for money. "Seargent Henry explains.

That came right out of the mod, btw

"Now it's to figure if Miacknian Mun was behind this, or someone is trying to implicate him with all this."Seargent Henry looks revolted as Howard pulls out the jar. "Urgh."

Number 61's eyes bulge and it gives both Howard and Seargent Henry a pleading expression as it looks hopefully at the jar lid.

"I figure there is a reasonable chance... which is why I brought that Derro back for questioning. It is also why I want to go back, and 'clean house', whilst searching for additional data. Giving the gravity of what I had found thus far, however, I felt that I should warn you."

"Are you sure you don't want to leave the whole thing to the authorities? We have enough evidence to search the place. I mean from what you described, it's something out of a nightmare. And you've done enough, I can't ask you to put your life at any further risk."
