Female Tiefling (Infernal Bastard) Witch 3

Jen stands tall, blood dripping onto her nice brown cloak.

She uses slumber against the Gnoll that wasn't slumbered before, while Whiskers five-foot steps and full attacks the Gnoll that shook off the slumber earlier.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

All dealing one damage each. If the slumber succeeds and Jen is still standing, she five-foot steps out of range of the Gnoll that Whiskers attacked but within range of the slumbering Gnoll and coup de graces it.

(Just need one lucky roll and the combat is won basically)

Female Tiefling (Infernal Bastard) Witch 3

Roll to crit confirm:

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Both Martian Level 20 invader

You guys are suppose to lose this fight. You will gain bonus XP for how many foes you defeat before going out. Everyone will get the xp. Seven badguys is quite a bit, especially considering how strong these things were. I got a feeling there will be no trouble in the rest of the campaign.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Ok Jen uses slumber on the Gnoll that just tore its way into the wagon. Suddenly the gnoll passes out. The second gnoll pushes past whiskers to attack Jen just as she delivers a fatal blow to the slumbering gnoll.
The second moves in to attacker her trying to ignore the cat:
Attacker:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 For:1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

After this the sand storm hits the caravan. More attackers burst out of the sand and move in to engaged the caravan defenders. The battle seems hopeless and the defenders take one last stand against the attackers before succumbing to the overwhelming assault. Everyone has been knocked out and the strange creatures, seemingly unburden by the storm have triumphed. It seems as though another expedition was swallowed whole by the Savarie. Though the question still remains. Why are you all still alive? What could these strange creatures possibly need with living prisoners. They have weapons that could have killed you yet they used clubs.
The anwser will come as we follow these poors souls into our story. The Souls of Lost Aridia (Epic sounding musics in the back ground)

Great job on the prologue guys. Once the sand storm hit, it was over regardless of who was still standing. I will post the opening to chapter one later today once I've tweaked it a bit.

For Pavok:
You can go ahead and attack one of your foes, but once you do, the storm will his the caravan and you will be overwhelmed as more attackers will pop out. Since you could possibly kill one more, give it a shot.

No wonder you said we were supposed to lose the encounter. I thought we might've been able to pull it off with the few Gnolls that remained, but of course I forgot about the sandstorm as well.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Lol, Don't you worry. It's all part of the plot. You'll see the method to my madness when your character's awake. Though, you guys did put up a real nice fight. This being the third official time I've run this campaign, you guys were the best by far. The first team, only cosisting of four players, didn't even kill one.

Male Human(Kellid) Paladin(Hospitaler)-4

As the Gnolls attack Pavok, he quickly dodges and parries there blows. He lets out a flurry of his own on the gnolls.

Flail Attack:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage:1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Light mace attack:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

The Mace made contact and managed to put down one more foe before the storm hit. Pavok was suddenly surrounded by several more monsters and was soon overwhelmed.

Good that's everyone and I am glad to say you guys will be at level 2 when you wake so go ahead and level up. Great Job Everyone. I will post the next segment soon. Once you've leveled I will need a fortitude save out of all of you.

Male Dwarf (Pahmet) Ranger (Warden / Trapper) 2

I'll level up later when I'm through with work, but will put up the fort saves now so as not to hold anything up

Mus'ad: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Al Gasreed: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Ok everyone here is the start of chapter one. YAY!

You begin to awaken. Your body is sore and stiff. As you stir you realize that you’re tied to a long stick, lying on the ground in the sand, and have been stripped of all your processions leaving you completely naked. The air around you is warm but not dry like that of the desert. Everything feels strange and you yourselves feel oddly stronger.
As you begin to take in your surrounding you notice that there are many bodies lying around in the area you are currently in. Most of them seem to be those strange attackers you fought earlier. The terrain seems to be a mixture of grass and sand. To one side there is a cliff wall. To the left of the wall you see what looks like a path leading up to the top of the cliff. To the opposite side is open desert but the horizon is strangely fuzzy.
You suddenly hear a shout come from the top of the wall. ”Hey Haseed! Get that camel back to camp, I’ll bring back some more men to get those Jackal prisoners we found.” Turning your head left from the path, about eighty feet from you, you see what looks like a human man struggling to pull a stubborn camel with him Al Gasreed
”Blast this stupid animal come! Daiga take you!” Before you can say anything you notice some large scorpions picking at the bodies of dead men and those strange gnoll creatures. They seem to be getting closer to you. Suddenly a couple of them move towards the struggling man. One scorpion gets behind him and stings him in the back of the leg. He cries out in pain and stubbles onto the ground. Two other scorpions move up to attack him. ”AAARRRGG!” the man screams as the three vermin begin to sting him to death. You notice there are quite a few of these scorpions around. It would behoove you to try and get out of your binds.

You can attempt the following checks to escape from the ropes. As you have nothing in the way of gear (or cloths for that matter) you gain a bonus +2 to escape artist to break free of the ropes.
You can attempt a strength check to break the ropes. DC 15
Or an escape artist check with a DC 10
Once you are free I need initiatives against the scorpions. Best of luck.
One more thing. You have 6 points of lethal damage. This number goes down by one point for every five points you made on a fort save.

For Jen:
Whisker wasn't attacked and followed stealthily. She would be able to gnaw through the ropes to add +2 points to whatever check you make to escape.

For Mus'ad:
Al Gasreed is nearby and unbound. He can't help you get free by gnawing on the ropes. He'll lower the break DC to 10 for you.

Male Dwarf (Pahmet) Ranger (Warden / Trapper) 2

So three points of lethal for Al Gasreed and one for Mus'ad.

Mus'ad struggles with his bonds, trying to tear free his hands with brute force. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 But remains trapped in the bonds despite Al Gasreed's assistance.

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Arik slowly opens his eyes. As he takes in the scene, he stiffens. With a slow, deep, breath, Arik begins what feels like an ancient ritual. He flexes his hands and shoulders, ankles and knees, back and chest. Using this ancient, half forgotten centering technique, Arik loosens his bonds, then slips out of them.

Escape Artist 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12

Once free, Arik stays put. He scans the area for his companions and anything he could use against the scorpions while steering clear of those stingers. (Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 I'm looking for a reach weapon if one can be found.)

Wow, three 3's in a row?

You will notice a longspear about 15 feet away. Your other companions are still tied to pole and scattered about.

As Pavok awakes he feels a stronger connection with the forge father, and though its odd it shows at this time he welcomes it the help his god is offering. He quickly looks around for his other comrades, as he slips his arms out of the rope. He drops down seeing the scorpions, he wraps his rope around his fist to make a tougher punch and moves to help Arik. "By the forge my brother glad you are still with me." He tells Arik.

Shanosuke:
How do you do Hit points? And didn't know if wrapping the rope with help but I guess I'll try hehe.

The dice really hate me, however, I take 3 points of lethal damage which isn't too bad.

As Mhykir comes to, he feels the bruises where his attackers hit, the pain disorienting him, but he shakes it off, feeling comfort in the sand beneath him, the elements soothing him he starts to drift off again.

Before he fully drifts off though, the scorpions catch his eye, and he forces himself awake, and offering a prayer to the gods (guidance), he tries to squirm free, but his bonds are too tight.

Trying hard not to panic, he looks around, but with the dust and bodies cannot see much, so he calls out for help, hoping one of his companions still lives.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 2 Monk 2

Another three? Is it broken? lol.

Seeing Pavok, and the spear, Arik rises slowly to his feet.

"It will take more than a few mangy dogs to put us down I think. Still, I am glad to see you."

Arik points out the spear to Pavok.

"Could you use that? I feel as though Torag wishes me to reshape these beasts with my bare hands."

An unsettling smile creeps across Arik's face. His eyes display at once an overwhelming joy and a deadly rage.

Not raging just yet.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Okay here is the layout for round one:

Arik is free and has a longspear. Jen is free, her spells are in her memory and her hexes are regenerated. Whiskers is at her side. Pavok is also loose and has a 1d4 damage for an unarmed strike instead of a 1d3.

The other three are not free of there binds, we are still waiting on Faznir to start combat. Once he has posted we will start.

Also I have posted a few new rules I need you to read on the discussion board.

Hitpoint roll: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Damnit, I plum forgot about Hero Points, discussion thread reminded me, is it too late to take the +4 bonus given for burning a Hero Point after the roll on my Escape Artist check and get free? if not that's cool, and I'll try keep on top of them, I'm still getting used to playing with HPs.

Pavok holds up his hand when the dwarf offers him the spear, and responds,"I cannot accept that weapon, it would disrupt my Forged Blade March to the Forge Father. If it is Torag's wish then give the spear to another in the group." He tightens his fist around the rope and gives off a similar smile to Ariks. "Now I can't deny the wish of the Master in Stone let us commence with the reshaping." Pavok says eagerly to Arik.

Round 2

Mus'ad continues to struggle against his bonds as Al Gasreed assists.

Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 and remains stuck.

Round 3

Mus'ad continues to struggle against his bonds as Al Gasreed assists.

Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 freeing himself. He then mounts the camel swiftly and rides bareback.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 2 Monk 2

The Forged Blade March? What could he have possibly done?

Arik will toss the spear to anyone who would like it. Just speak up and its yours.

Should we start posting combat actions or are we still waiting for Faznir?

Male Ifrit Sorcerer 2

"No time for a nap, my good folk, for destiny tests us at every turn! Let us not dissapoint it!"

Faznir escapes his bonds and checks if anyone's still bound.
What actions I have left after releasing myself from the bonds?

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Escape Artist check (DC 10): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Harnessing the fire within, Faznir points two fingers in Mus'ad's direction...

"I said no time for sleep, elf! By the grace of gods and nymphs, stop moving around one second!"

... and snaps his fingers, throwing a fire bolt in his direction. Or better yet, the direction of the rope.

No idea what the AC on ropes are, though. Will roll the touch attack for the Fire Ray: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Okay. Once Faznir gets free, he quickly frees Mus'ad.
Mhykir expends a heroic effort to get free of his bides. Go ahead and use your hero point Mhykir

You have all managed to free yourselves before the scorpions notice you. The Scorpions are now aware of the new fresh meat and move in to attack. There are six scorpions and they are about a foot tall, not including the tails. There are various corpse lying around with most of their gear still intact. You won't have time to put on clothing but you'll at least have time to grab a weapon.

Perception DC 10:

You will notice the following weapons.
2 Longspears
4 Scimitars
3 Clubs
2 Quarterstaves
1 Falchion
All within 20 feet. Your first action should be acquiring a weapon.

If you are like Pavok and Arik, you can go melee. Using the ropes on your fists increase the damage to a d4 instead of a d3. Or you may have spells that can do damage. I'll will post the first map tomorrow but feel free to take your actions. Go ahead and post your next two rounds of actions. You are all within 10 feet of one another.
The closest scorpion is 15 feet away. After him are two at 20 feet, then 1 at 25, one at 35 and the last at 40. They move 20 feet a round and the three farthest will be in range at round two.
I will arrange all actions in initiative order once everyone has posted.

Male Dwarf (Pahmet) Ranger (Warden / Trapper) 2

Auto success on the Perception as I have a +10 mod

Round 1:
Free from the rope, Mus'ad moves to and grabs the falchion that lies on the ground. Al Gasreed follows him and stands between Mus'ad and the scorpion.

Round 2:
Mus'ad mounts Al Gasreed Move action then the camel moves adjacent to the closest scorpion. Unless one is adjacent already They then both strike at the beast.

Mus'ad: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 for 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
Al Gasreed: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Round 1

Jen casts mage armor on herself while Whiskers purrs alongside. She stays behind the more melee-oriented group members.

Round 2

Now that she is protected, she five-foot steps closer to the scorpions while remaining behind the other melee-oriented folks, uses sleep on the closest scorpion (DC is now 15) and then cackles maniacally as a move action.

She shouts to the others if the scorpion that she uses sleep on falls asleep. Move briskly to the other scorpions. These desert vermin are no match for us!

Male Ifrit Sorcerer 2

"Sure, thanks Faznir releasing me from these bonds. Oh you're welcome, my noble elf-friend!"

Round 1

Faznir stays behind Mus'ad, letting loose another fire bolt with a snap of his fingers.

Target: the nearest scorpion who isn't engaged in melee.

Ranged attack +5 touch AC 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Round 1

Knowledge Nature to learn about the scorpions 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Arik, unable to glean much information about these creatures, charges the nearest scorpion and launches knee first into its eyes.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Round 2

If I hit and am adjacent to the same scorpion...

Arik brings his knee up under the beast's head at the same time he plunges his elbow down, attempting to sandwich the scorpion's head between the blows. The creature's carapace proves resilient however, and his strikes fail to find purchase.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Well that would have been awesome...oh well

I'll be nice and let you in on a little secret. Insects are immune to mind effecting spells including any kind of sleep. I will allow you to change your round two action into something more effective. Sorry about that.

Round 2

Jen five foot steps towards the scorpions while staying behind the melee folks and uses misfortune on the second-nearest scorpion (one of the 20ft away ones). Then she proceeds to cackle manically.

DC 15 for misfortune. If the enemy fails, they have to roll twice for every attack roll, ability check, skill check, or saving throw for the next round. Cackle extends this by another round, making it two rounds, though cackling again next round will extend it another round. Also, I checked out the spell that is similar to this Hex and it is not mind-affecting, just to be safe. (Bungle)

Attack:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Damage:1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Round 2

Attack:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Okay cool. I know I stepped out of bounds by telling you that but I really didn't want your turn to go to waste. Plus my reasoning says that a witch would have knowledge of a common vermin so yeah. Once Mhykir and Pavok post, I will post the results of everyone's actions.

Male Ifrit Sorcerer 2

If there is a nice number of scorpions bunched up (in the area of my burning hands) lemme know. If not I'll keep on Fire-bolting the hell out of them on Round 2.

Round 2

Faznir either moves to get in range to cast Burning Hands (if he can hit at least 2 scorpions) or just bolts away with Fire Ray.

Fire Ray: Ranged touch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6, for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Once free Jen quickly moves behind the fighters in the group. Her body glows with a sort of invisible armor.

The first scorpion moves in to attack Mus'ad but his camel gets in the way. Al Gasreed gets a AoO The scorpion attempting to get around the Al Gasreed gets attacked by the brave beast.

Once Faznir is sure that Mus'ad is good he moves back to a safer position behind Mus'ad. He attempts to attack the scorpion with a spell but it simply strikes the dirt at the creatures side.

The scorpions rush in. Three are heading towards Arik and Pavok

Arik the scorpion is in front of you, go ahead and make your flurry of blows again Arik comes at the little monster with a volley of attacks.

Jen creates a hex against one of the scorpions attacking Arik. It begins to look unstable as Jen lets out a wicked cackle.

Mus'ad and Al Gasreed manage to slay one of the little beast and severely wound the other.

Faznir moves in to aid Arik and Pavok in their battle against many foes. Faznir angles himself just right to catch all three scorpions in a burning hands spell and avoids hitting his friends in the process. Each of the scorpions suffer greatly under the attack. The clumsy one attempts to attack Faznir.

Arik steps in and sets in another volley of attacks. His first move misses but the second catches the burning creature on the back slaying it.

Mhykir throws a rock at the bug right in front of it. The hit stuns the creature.

Ok good. That went nicely. Now post round three and four just the way you did with the first two and we will proceed once everyone has posted. By the way, are we okay with doing combat like this?

Male Human(Kellid) Paladin(Hospitaler)-4

Round 3
The heat from the burning scorpions reminds him of the Forge back home and suddenly he feels a healing energy course through him. Round 3:
"Hah - back to the sand insects" Mus'ad brings the falchion down in a wicked strike as Al Gasreed continues his biting assault.

Al Gasreed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Mus'ad: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 for 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Targeting the injured one first, then moving on to the uninjured

Round 4:
The camel and rider continue their assault

Al Gasreed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Mus'ad: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 for 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
Crit confirmation: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for extra 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12

Attacking the two adjacent first, then going to assist others

Male Dwarf Barbarian 2 Monk 2

Redone flurry
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Arik steps forward with a double fist punch that sends the creature reeling.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 2 Monk 2

Round 3

Arik barrels into the closest monster bringing his fists down hard.

If I can full attack, here's the flurry

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

If not, here's one attack

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Round 4

Arik will repeat round 3's actions unless some is in need of help or protection.

Here are the dice rolls for round 4

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

or

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Round 3

Mhykir takes a step back from the scorpion attacking him (five foot step, no attack of opportunity) And hurles another stone at the scorpion in front of him.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
The damage from magic stone is lethal btw, wasn't sure since you said I stunned it.

Round 4
If a scorpion moves up to attack I do the same thing and take a step back before throwing my last stone at it, otherwise I throw it at a scorpion within 20 ft that isn't being taken care of by someone else.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Round 3

Jen looks out for the two farthest Scorpions (the ones that aren't damaged, or if already damaged, finding the least damaged ones) and uses misfortune on one of them (DC 15 will save) and then cackles again.

Round 4

She repeats this procedure with another one of the scorpions. She enjoys it when her magic forces one of the scorpions to miss an obviously easy attack.

In the next battle, I will be prepared with some combat spells as well, instead of just cures.

Male Ifrit Sorcerer 2

"What are you laughing about, lady?" Faznir takes one quick look at Jen, not quite understanding what she's all about (he thinks she's a wizard or something like it).

Round 3

Faznir's eyes burn yellow, and he tries to touch the nearby scorpion.

Concentration check to cast defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 versus DC 17

Melee Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19, for 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 fire damage if it hits.

Faznir's hands are suddenly set on fire, but the scorpion turns its attention his way and he stops the spell suddenly, trying to get away from the beast.

Failing the spell, he takes a 5-ft step away from the scorpion.

Male Ifrit Sorcerer 2

Round 4

Faznir puts some distance between he and the scorpions, letting loose a fire ray in the process.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 vs touch AC for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 fire damage.

Well, as you know, many powers drawing from arcane sources require both somatic and verbal components. My verbal component happens to be laughing, which is also good for one's health. One laugh a day keeps the cleric away. We don't exactly have many magic users back in my homeland. What is the source of your magical power?

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Jen begins to manipulate and mess with the vermin's fortunes. Al Gasreed kills the last scorpion fighting Mus'as and carries his master over to aid Mhykir who is struggling with one. Mus'ad swipes the Falchion, cleaving the monster in two. Faznir's hands blazed with fire as he torched the remaining scorpion in front of Arik. One scorpion remain ands it attempts to sting Pavok.

Attacks against Pavok:

everyone used up all their rounds to kill the other scorps so you've got two attacks against you.
Round 3 Attack1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 For 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Round 4 Attack1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 For 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I don't believe they will do enough damage to kill you even if they hit.

After guarding against two vicious stings from the scorpion, pavok knocks the creature out by grabbing one of the dead ones and clobbering it over the head. Since all you did to it was nonlethal damage, it's still alive, just unconscious. I assume a coupdegrace Once it is out, one of you kills the unconscious little beast.

Things you will notice
1. The battlefield is quiet and there are many bodies laying about.
2. You are still without ANY clothing or gear for that matter.
3. There is a cliff to one side and some vegetation about. And of course, lots of sand. You've seen nothing but dunes of sand for TWO MONTHS. This is the first time you've even seen solid rock. Now free time mode. Explore and see whats about. Ask questions and make rolls, or converse. I will respond as often as I can.

Campaign will move on when you do. I will not be pushing it along from this point.

Male Dwarf (Pahmet) Ranger (Warden / Trapper) 2

"Hah!" Mus'ad exclaims as he swings down from Al Gasreed to inspect the camel's wounds, stroking him on the head to keep him calm.

"You all fight well enough, but we should seek more arms before the other man returns" he adds addressing the group as a whole. He then turns his attention to the bodies surrounding them.

Perception: Taking 10 for a result of 20

I'm looking among the bodies for armor, clothing, any of our possessions, Mus'ad's barding and saddle, etc.
