Thandion |
Thandion looks at the bosy of the creature in disgust picks up his bag again and follows Aressa. It did leave a body right?
"Severus, you'll have to tell me about Thassilonians but after we finish dealing with what ever else might be down here."
The Voice of Wisdom |
After Aressa's work, I wouldn't quite call it an intact body, but there are body parts.
Going down to the rubble filled room, you find a room that is definitely very old, and appears to be filled with the remains of several urns, jars, and barrels, their contents long since vanished. There is a door on the north wall, and the hole in the west wall that you entered in. Otherwise, there is nothing of interest in this old storeroom.
The Voice of Wisdom |
This room contains a statue, and nothing else. The red marble statue is a bit aged, but you can make out enough of the details to get a good idea of what it would have looked like in it's prime. It is of a strikingly beautiful but, at the same time, monstrously enraged human woman stands in the middle of this room, her stony expression twisted in fury. The woman wears flowing robes, and her long hair is held back from her face by an intricate headdress of hooks and blades. In her left hand she carries a large book, the face of which is inscribed with a seven-pointed star. Her right hand holds a glittering metal-and-ivory ranseur. There is an opening on every wall. The ones to the south and west you know where they go; to the north is a heavy wooden door; to the east is a long hallway with several flights of stairs that seem to be going up. The statue faces the eastern hallway.
Avian Fletcher |
Is that statue of a quasit? In any case, I think it's clear that she's pointing us to the east for more horrors. Do we want to check the door first? Avian uses his left claw to try opening the door handle, pistol trained on whatever might jump out of the door.
Assuming the door is locked... Aressa, didn't you swipe a keyring off Tsuto's desk?
The Voice of Wisdom |
The keys from Tsuto's desk wouldn't have a chance of working down here, and that's immediately obvious from the shape of the rather ancient locks. Fortunately, the door is not locked.
It does appear as though the ranseur could be removed, but the star on the book is what really catches the attention of the scholar; it is most definitely the Thassilion Sihedron.
Severus Aldenhyne |
I knew that too. Was going to post something about the Sihedron. Is it a real book, or a statue of a book?
"Yes, yes. The Sihedron. I knew we would find it here if this truly is the remnant of a Thassilon city or something."
Severus is barely able to contain his excitement at their discovery. This statue is remarkable to him in many ways and it is difficult to pull him away from his find.
"No. I don't think it's a quasit. I've heard quasits are short and ugly, and this is neither."
He sighs as Thandion continues pulling forward.
"What was it we're looking for again? I've forgotten."
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
I think it should be our plan to map as much of these ruins as possible. We need to locate any other entrances that could lead to Sandpoint and put down any potential threats before they spill upto the town above. Eyeing the ranseur appraisingly, Marcoul moves up towards the statue. Anything else we find here is just glazing on the pig.
Pavro Deverin |
Pavro peers up at the statue, quirking his head to one side then the other,
"Why is she so mad, is it to do with the sinspawn? Is it anger or something, as a sin I mean? Generally you don't make statues of angry people..."
The Voice of Wisdom |
Severus, give me a knowledge (history) roll. The book is part of the statue and not a separate thing. This ranseur is much nicer than the other one. That one was interesting from a historical perspective, but most people would treat it like a normal weapon; this one is both a really nice weapon and an impressive piece of art. It's a masterwork ranseur worth 400 gp because of the additional ornamentation.
Severus Aldenhyne |
"Wrath, I should think."
History check.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
"Ah, I think I will claim this ranseur (as part of our divided spoils)" He glances sideways at Marcoul. "If no one minds, that is, and if the lady is willing to give it up."
Fearing that it may have been set up as a trap to ward off thieves, Severus examines the statue to make sure that no mechanisms would activate should the ranseur be taken.
Perception for Traps (20)
20 + 9 = 29
The Voice of Wisdom |
The ranseur is not trapped and it comes up with a purposeful tug. Severus also recognizes the statue to be of Runelord Alaznist, patron of wrath.
When you open the door, you see a large chamber that was obviously once a prison, as testified by the twenty cells that line the room’s perimeter. You are on a rickety wooden platform that overlooks the cells, with two flights of stairs descending to the prison floor ten feet below. A five-foot-wide wooden walkway runs from the northern edge of the platform to a passageway to the east. You are immediately assaulted by ranseurs from three more of the creatures as they poke at you from their position underneath the platform.
Everyone go ahead and give me 3 combat rounds worth of actions. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on what is basically a glorified mook fight.
Avian Fletcher |
What kind of cover does the walkway provide the creatures? Assuming there are some available that aren't directly under the platform, he'll try those first...
Avian will make his way through the platform and down the stairs to shoot the creatures, shooting ones within 20 feet if at all possible, staying out of melée reach if possible, and shooting the same one each time until dead, if possible.

With that he hurries after the others, leaning on the ranseur like a staff.
He does his best to dodge the attacks as he rushes across the platform and down the stairs, hand crossbow in one hand and ranseur in the other.

Pavro Deverin |
Aressa inclines her head slightly to Vors in thanks, as Pavro steps up and chants his own spell further reducing her injuries. With the eidolon left with only a few shallow scrapes, Pavro looks over his own injuries and wincing - though a larger part of his concern seems to be for his clothing,
"Right, well, that was not my idea of a good time. Anyone see anything in the cells?"
Rejuvenate Eidolon Lesser: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The Voice of Wisdom |
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
Well then, let's move down the hallway to the east? It dosen't look like there is anything else of interest here. Hefting his crossbow and fitting another bolt in it the Priest begins to move towards the passage.
Pavro Deverin |
Pavro gives Marcoul a little flourishing bow, grinning,
"Well that feels better, I'm not averse to a smidge of pain, but I prefer to take it in as small a dose as possible. And you to Severus, I'm sure your skills will come in useful all too soon."
I'm a little confused by the map where have we not been? The passage in row E?
Pavro Deverin |
"Right, let's go back to the first hallway to the east, try to be vaguely systematic about things," Pavro says, and Aressa nods leading back to the first easterly bound corridor and heading down it.
Pavro Deverin |
"Well that looks a tad altarish and ominous, but I suppose we aren't going to get anything done standing here. Lead on 'Ress, Thandion." Pavro says, pulling a scroll out and glancing at the doors, pool, and marble block nervously.
Aressa advances cautiously into the room scanning for danger.
If there appears to be no immediate threat she takes 20 for a 25 perception.
Severus Aldenhyne |
Giving up on the gate (with no response from the GM) :P, Severus finally follows the others.
"I would not be surprised if something had to be sacrificed there in order for the doors to open, but we shall see."
The Voice of Wisdom |
The room is unremarkable save for the doors and the altarish looking stone. The doors appear to be heavy stone, but otherwise nothing special; there are handles where one would typically expect them to be found, and a quick test suggests that it wouldn't be that hard to open the doors if one wanted to, as they seem to be well balanced.
Pavro Deverin |
Aressa moves forward with Pavro behind her, and the summoner selects a fragment of stone from the floor and hurls it into the pool from a good ten feet away.
If nothing worrying happens he then examines the marble block, checking for markings or blood, etc.
