"Come elf!" Sumbar said. "See a master at work!

Arundel nods agreeably at this request, and approaches the table. "Thank you for the invitation, sir, I would love to watch an advanced game. I've played a little myself, but not nearly at either of your levels I'm sure." The elf takes a seat by their table and watches their game for a time, listening to their conversation and participating in pleasantries as appropriate.

Dommer followed with Regin - not to help with any diplomacy, but mostly to keep company and eventually hand an arm if it comes to that. The Dwarf was serious, thoughtful, and grumpy as most of his race.

Tirra took her place and threw five daggers in quick succession, each toss a simple, practiced motion. Three struck the target dead center. The other two hit the outer ring, one quite near the edge.

And 19 for her.

The half-elf smiled and retrieved her daggers, "Best two of three?"

She's in quite a good mood now.

The Beg of Ishtar was a plain building of mud bricks, like most of Dalath. The goddess' hand clasping a rod was carved to either side of the door, positioned suggestively. The heavy stink of too much perfumed wax wafted through the door, which let Regin and Dommer into a small antechamber. Beaded curtains set it off from the building's deeper quarters.

A middle-aged woman wearing quite little sat there, setting aside a bit of sewing when the men entered.

"Good morn, Masters. The Goddess has many pleasures. Do you have a particular heaven in mind?"

Sumbar and Lugal engaged in mostly empty small talk, but Sumbar departed from it often to make pointed references to families, misfortune, and business failures. Each time, Lugal remained strictly correct and polite.

"Did the wizard every make his way over?" Sumbar said after a while.

"Zummabu? You know he barely comes here," Lugal said innocently.

"You're wits have wondered, old boy. The new wizard, that came with the elf and the champion," Sumbar said, not at all amused.

"He came. He's a good player," Lugal said.

"And nothing about his business?" Sumbar pressed. "He sat silent the whole while?"

"Isn't that a wonder?"

"Ask his friends. I hear they talk easily enough."

"The oaf and his whore!" Sumbar snorted.

"Then ask him. He said he would come again, probably in the afternoon."

No one's gone yet.

Amarekashu found the Spinning Knife on the far side of Dalath, near the garrison. It was a plain building, but kept up with care. Even the dirt out front looked swept. A knife as long as a man's arm hung from a metal post jutting from the wall, turning slowly in Dalath's breeze.

Despite the early hour, voices wafted out into the street. Within he found a simple common room with utilitarian tables and stools, laid out in neat lines. A half-dozen foreign soldiers sat around one, dicing. No one bothered to look up when he entered.

"Master Kassu, such a pleasure to see you again!"

Amarekashu nodded that no one looked. No one knew him. He had no respect here. This was right and proper. He smiled slightly to himself. It was possible this would change.

The fact there were so many foreign troops here meant that there was less chance of spotting the ones he was looking for unless they drew attention to themselves. If they were loud enough, though, simply being here would be enough to make them stand out. This did not look like the kind of place that saw much flamboyance. Looking down at his own elegant silken robes and gems, he shrugged. He stood out as well, but it would be interesting to see.

Moving to the bar, he sat. "Barkeep. I thirst for something with both flavour and kick. What do you have in...brandies?"

The room held the large man's armor, tooled leather with studs that highlighted his muscles, a two-handed blade, a crossbow, and three bronze vials. Two had blue marks on their stoppers. The third bore a red mark. The vials shone with magic under Trib's divination.

Tossed in a drawer, they found a scroll bearing a crude map of the region with the road from Unthalass marked out and the Smoking Mountains noted as holding "many treasures" in a careful hand. Smaller marks distinguished the Stirgenest and a few other tombs across the river. Dalath bore the legend "mining town and second empire observatory".

Loot:
If you want to take it, he's got
mwk greatsword
mwk light crossbow
20 bolts
studded leather
that big belt of his, which you would have to get off him
55gp
3 potions (2 cure moderate, 1 remove paralysis)

Arundel takes the man's hand in his and shakes it. "My name is Arundel, it is a pleasure to meet you sir. I take it you are Master Kassu? Lugal spoke very highly of your skill in the game" he says, gesturing toward the dragonchess board, "I was hoping to have the chance to watch you play. I'm something of a student of the game myself, though I'm still in the early stages of learning just yet. I take it you are new to town? What brings you to our fair city?"

"Lugal is far too kind," Kassu said, smiling pleasantly. "As to my business, you must know already. Our champion enjoys boasting and word travels fast. We go to the Stirgenest, as soon as he's sober. I hope you don't think less of him; we all have our pleasures. Abilsin is a great man, blessed by our God-King. Great men have great appetites. It is the way of things. I hope to find some remnant of Second Empire magic there. Our workings of old are nothing against the accomplishments of your distinguished people, but they are a height we have fallen from all the same. My greatest aspiration is to return to our Empire some of those glories. Once, we stood against Thayd the Necromancer. Now we cower at his red robes in our ports and hope a good price for our slaves. It is an indignity to our people, to depend so on godless rebels."

"These are dark times," Sumbar said, shouldering his way in by main bulk. He nodded to himself, "A gentleman of your talents is wasted on Dalath, but we welcome you all the same."

"That is very kind. Thank you," Kassu said, turning promptly back to Arundel. "I don't mean to presume, but would you happen to be a student of history or the Art? I have starved for learned conversation since leaving the City of Gems. Meaning no disrespect to you, Lugal."

"No, no it's true," Lugal said, waving the matter off. "I am a simple man; I think only of the game. The gods did not make a scholar of me."

"The big one hurt four of my girls. If you see him, tell him he is not welcome here. The Goddess' wrath is roused on him."

He hurt them? - the Dwarf seemed annoyed. Even more than his usual annoyed face - What did they do, ma'am? Would you happen to know where we can find 'em?

He pulls a coin - a golden one! - and extends it to the woman. A vengeful woman is more dangerous than a white dragon breathing cold, and he hoped for a moment to have found an unlikely ally. Yet, he knew coins were great to make tongues dance the right music.

For his part, Regin's look turns dark. Harming the godesses' girls was a grave transgression and would need to be dealt with.

Namtar wistfully eyes the belt on the warrior. One day, I will have a belt like this. I will be the Champion of Unthalas!

The coin vanished. "The rough one went off toward the Pit. Fit place for his sort. May the Lioness of the Heavens find him there."

Regin bows slightly and crosses his hands over his chest, a gesture of honor for the goddess. I am glad to hear it. Thank you for your time.

He politely takes his leave then turns to his dwarven companion, My gut says some of our fellows have probably run into this one. Let's go check out the spinning blade. Maybe we'll run into the others.

'Wow a map, and enough gold to make it worth the risk.' After searching the room, Tribim looks at his big friend Namtar, "I really think we should take tha map, an' cover up our covert motives by takin' a few other things as well." He holds up the gold and the vials, smiling and puts them in his pockets. "I'm not sure we should take anythin' obvious, tha staff may have ta attempt ta turn us in.'

'That's all too big for me to use anyway.' Looking at the nice sword and crossbow, Tribim shrugs his shoulders, "I guess if you want tha weapons I can't blame ya, fer what it's worth I'll split tha gold and potions with ya."

Trib looks around quickly, 'we want this to look like a simple burglary. Making sure he doesn't mention who they are associated with in case someone is listening. "What ever were doin' lets do it so we can get back ta tha compound with tha "stuff"."

Samnell, when Namtar is ready they will carefully head back to Zummabu's compound. They will be very careful, taking a long route watching behind them. If We need to roll anything for perception please let us know.

Kassu held up his hand to cut Lugal off, "None of that. His only payment due is the conversation. I'll settle the rest." Lugal nodded and produced a well-used, rather plain set which looked quite inadequate next to Kassu's pieces.

"I'm sure you know the explosion," Kassu said as he moved his first piece. He then began a lengthy, quite technical, disquisition about the ways powerful magical discharges might interact with standing effects and spell-fields, or empower long-depleted sources of energy whilst also twisting their Art in unpredictable ways. It might have sundered wards, broken illusions, or otherwise revealed new parts of the tomb.

"It's probably a fool's errand, but you never know until you look. Have you been out there yourself?

Ok. I'll have something to say about loot accounting in the OOC thread shortly.

I've got it:

NamPerc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
*Whistles innocently*

Tribim and Namtar take the long way, ducking behind buildings and avoiding the busier streets as much as possible as they leave the Peck. Between discretion and having to wait for passing eyes to finish passing, it took them a quarter hour to return to Zummabu's tower.

Namtar smiles at the offer of sharing the gold. Thank you, my Master will be pleased that his slave has earned him even more gold. Then, he grins and picks up the warrior's weapons and armor. I, Master. My weapons are enough, but, as you say, if we take these, we look like thieves. He laughs and quietly turns over a few chairs and lays cloaks and sacks on the floor. That should work, yes? Once more, he wistfully eyes that belt. I will not take the belt, Master. I will win it in the Pits, in honor of the Father of Victories. It would make them remember my face even more.

When we leave, should I act like your warrior, Master, or a laborer?

[ooc]If Trib answers as a laborer, Namtar wills trip naked and bundle all the gear into a sack on his back. As soon as they're outside, he'll splash himself with dust and mud to make himself look like a common draft slave. If Trib says a warrior, he'll stay armed, but bundle only the stolen gear and then heel Trib like a loyal warrior slave guarding his master's agent.[/b]

Amarekashu didn't see anyone that looked much like a large man with a large belt, and certainly no half-elves. A few were women, but all humans or dwarves. One man in robes was present, but they were blood red, came with a steel skullcap that must be very uncomfortable, and the build of a fighting man.

And he also saw Dommer and Regin come in.

Tribim thinks about Namtar's question for a moment, "We should look tha same as we did comin' in as goin' out, that way if someone was ta be watchin' we wouldn't look different. Oh, and you can call me Tribim or Trib if ya prefer, but don't call me master, if it was up ta me there wouldn't be any more master and slave, just people bein' people."
