This scenario really wants us to not like aliens. Segregation, unstable technology and now bad food!
A history of war. This planet needs the gentle embrace of the Pact World's laws. Hopefully they can be persuaded to join. The Husk's resistance to radiation and the Membrane's wings would make them fine Starfinder agents as well. Lost in her own thoughts, Breq humbly walks over to the table. Whispering to her companions, "Remember, we must be respectful. That means no insults, Julakesh." At the table, Breq bows her head in respect, then takes a bite of the soup.

Julakesh laughs at Breq's worries. "Insults?! You must have problem with ears! I have given only freindnship and help!"
She looks at the food and digs right in, completely unworried about what it might taste like.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Unfortunately, it gets stuck in her throat and she coughs and hacks for a moment, accidentally splattering the food across the table.
Eww! It tastes like whelp dung! What foolish bugs to eat this! A-HAH!
When her coughing has passed she wipes her mouth with her arm, chuckles aloud and goes back to eating.
She'll eat it even if it tastes nasty. She's had worse at some point, I'm sure.

Kaylee, Breq and Chk'tarish keep up a good appearance, earning the appreciation of the council. Julakesh, and Mustachio... well... let's just say it's not a pretty sight.
While Mustachio clears up the mess, the power suddenly goes out, leaving the room in darkness for almost half a minute. The ghibranis don’t seem too worried about the power fluctuation. “the Mainframe acts up occasionally, but it always self-corrects after a few seconds.” The council continues to chat happily, and eventually even present the group with a gift. We offer you one of our prices pieces of technology. Treat it with care, the council lead says upon presenting a pistol to Chk'tarish.
Under casual inspection, this pistol appears to be a sturdy laser weapon.
MEMBRANE HOLDOUT PISTOL
A membrane holdout pistol is a 3rd-level, laser small-arm ranged weapon that deals 1d6 fire damage and has the burn 1d6 critical hit effect. It has a range of 80 feet and holds 20 charges. It has L bulk and costs 1,250 credits.

![]() |

Chk'tarlsh holds his hands out before him, side-by-side and palms up, bowing his head solemnly as he receives the offered gift.
You honour us greatly, he sends to the council members, the message baring a strong sense of sincerity and humility. He continues to hold the weapon before him, resting across both palms. I thank you.

![]() |

Kaylee beams at Klarima upon the party receiving the gift.
"Shiny! Thank you! I'm curious like Choppy on that too! Some of us are pretty good with machines and computers! Anything we can do to help?"

![]() |

"What a beautiful weapon. Thank you for this gift. We are greatly honored. " Breq helps Mustachio clean up, trying to cover up the faux pas. Meanwhile, she adds a question. "Tell me, honorable ones. Do you know anything of your guardian in the sky? The large mother sky-boat? " She hesitates, then continues. " It was less than friendly when we arrived on our sky-ship. "

![]() |

Julakesh smiles a big toothy grin and claps Chk'Tarish on the back. "A fine gift! You should be proud!"
Suddenly, Julakesh looks confused. Power fluctu-whats-its? "Uh.. YES! Tell us of this thing you need help with! We are strong and brave!"

DM Kludde |

The flickering has been like this for as long as we can remember. The Mainframe is on the outskirts of Arkeost. The council discusses among themselves for a bit, then continues There is no tradition regarding outsiders, so we see no problem with you entering the area. Klarima can guide you there.
Answering Breq, the council says We know nothing of the sky, we never fly higher than the dome of the city.
The meeting finishes up, and Klarima helpfully says While you were busy... eh... eating, I have ordered some drones to convert a few ground-level warehouses into sleep quarters. They should provide you with accommodation for the night.
---
The next day, Klarima offers to guide the party to the mainframe. There is an increased concentration of drones and other hovering robots in this neighborhood, though none seem to pay any attention to them. A large doorway leads into the structure and a ramp descends a bit into open garage-like space where thousands of drones are stored. Many are powered down and others are being repaired by other drones, leaving the adventurers to walk through patches of dead silence followed by stretches of frantic activity as they descended on curving ramps farther and farther below. As the group continues, they spot the several signs in Ghibrani that read “Taboo Area,” “Keep Out,” and other warnings with similarly grave images to accentuate the point. Eventually, they reach a hallway that branches off from the garages.
The hallway opens into a rectangular room of white plastic, a stark contrast to the smoky, grease-stained garages that led up to this place. Fans whir quietly overhead. Track lighting along the floor illuminates much of the chamber. Several white coveralls hang on the wall behind a bench to the north. A door leads to the east.

![]() |

"Taboo? Keep out?" Julakesh wonders. Suddenly her face light up brightly. "Ah! Yes! Let us hope there are terrifying beasts and dangerous traps within this 'mainframe' they spoke of! THAT WOULD BE GREAT FUN!"
She places her hands on her hips and laughs loudly. "A-HAH! A-HAH!"
Upon setting foot into the white room, Julakesh scowls. "Not a beast in sight! BAH! ...Well, perhaps there are some horrifying traps and toxic gases!"
She leaps into the room, and waits expectantly, clearly hoping there's something terribly dangerous in here, even if it means her tail gets blown off....

![]() |

Breq stands at the doorway, taking in this change of scenery. "Interesting. One place untouched by the entropy of this society. Here lies the secret. Let us investigate. Respectfully. " The Vesk probably doesn't notice, but Breq clearly looks at Julakesh as she says this.
After a moment's thought, the android goes over and puts on a coverall. "Well, shall we? "

![]() |

Kaylee grins and bounds up alongside Breq, whispering to her "You know, from my experience training with their pilots and mechanics? I'm pretty sure that *is* about as respectful as it gets when they're not on active duty for the Veskarium." With a little wink she holsters her weapon to also slip into a set of coveralls.

![]() |

Chk'tarlsh eagerly drinks in the sights of the city along their journey, particularly the industry of the drones.
"What are the signsh warninghk of? Danger within, or to keep people out?" Chk'tarlsh asks Klarima after passing a number of the warning signs on their way down the ramp.
"What're the coveralls for?" he asks their guide, taking a suit from a peg and about to follow Breq's lead. "And where'sh that lead to?" he indicates the door to the east with a nod of his head.

![]() |

Reckless as she is brave, Julakesh does not put in the coveralls, instead she approaches various parts of the walls and pokes at them, hoping it will cause some sort of hidden blades to attempt to dismember her.
Eventually she approaches the door and opens it, exclaiming, "A-HAH!"

DM Kludde |

While Chk'tarish wonders what the coveralls are for, Julakesh rumbles through the room, eventually 'tapping' open the door on the other end. Her 'A-hah!' comes out a big distorted as she gets hit by 200.000 volts of electrical energy. Refreshing!
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1) = 6 DC 12 Reflex for half
In the room beyond, four pillars, each covered in glowing circuitry, break up the floor of this chamber. Though slightly out of date by modern Pact Worlds standards, the four power generators in between the pillars nevertheless hum with energy. The room is illuminated from below, and doors lead east and west.

![]() |

"Whoa! Julakesh are you okay?!"
Kaylee runs over to Julakesh (after putting on the overalls) to make sure she's alright!
Before going out of the room with the overalls Kaylee will have her exocortex activate her energy shield.

![]() |

Breq watches, amazed, as Julakesh finds the door. "Well, that's one way to do it. " She smiles, impressed at the woman's bravery.
Slowly, the android approaches the door. This machinery, it's so interesting. She studies it, trying to understand how it works.
