Padme' heads to the ship's galley before heading out to the desert. She fills a light container with two liters of cold water before exciting the Pegasus. The Organic substances that my mechanical ones interact with require hydration. I hope some of the others remembered to bring extra water. Padme' checks the rest of her gear and then exits the Pegasus ,..setting the command over-ride lock herself. Sev+ you've disconnected the translation unit from the Pegasus mainframe I presume?If not please go retrieve it. We may need it.

For Sev:
You take a look around and predict the weather will remain more or less stable for the remainder of the day, although at night the temperatures will drop below freezing. The next day, however, you believe there is a small probability of sandstorms, but shouldn't be anything the Pegasus cannot withstand.

The party sets out in their standard marching order towards the force field. The air is dry and the heat, although bearable, isn't exactly comfortable.
To get an idea of what the wasteland terrain looks like, imagine the landscape in Mad Max movies but with no vegetation.

As the group crests a small dune a few hundred feet away from the ship, Remi, Dyukela, ID, and Padme' immediately spot a large creature trying to camouflage into the background as it closes in on you! The animal looks like a muscular lion with a biege-colored mane while the rest of the body is covered with dark brown scales. It has a stubby face, big, fanged mouth and a segmented tail.

Uncertain whether the others have spotted the creature or not, Remi broadcasts telepathically to the entire group, {Watch out! Camouflaged creature straight ahead, and it doesn't look friendly.}

She draws her semi-automatic pistol and steels herself to be prepared to shoot if it comes charging at them. Her training as a xenobiologist kicks in, and she looks intently at the creature, trying to discern whether she recognizes any of its features.

Having the smaller Twik in front of her serves Padme's purpose well. She lifts he laser pistol and fires at the fast approaching predator, laser pistol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Hmm.. my aim is well off perhaps an adjustment to my optic center is in order?

As we're in the surprise round, I'm going to assume Padme' used a single move action to draw the laser pistol but did not fire it - unless Padme' has the 'Quickdraw' feat, or she normally hikes around with a weapon in hand by default without holstering it, or she has some additional ability I'm not aware of?

Id's shooting stars are right on target and hits the beast, causing it to roar in anger!

Dyukela's vantage point gives hims a good view but nothing about this beast looks familiar.

Padme' takes a look and recognizes certain features about this beast that is similar to animals she had encountered before

For Padme':
The animal is a Sand Brute, large with 10 foot reach and a nasty bite. You're able to determine that it has two special abilities:

Imposing Roar (Ex) As a move action, a sand brute can emit a ferocious roar. Each creature within 60 feet of the sand brute must succeed at a DC 12 Will saving throw or be shaken for 1d4 rounds. A creature who succeeds at its saving throw is immune to the same sand brute’s imposing roar for 24 hours. This is a mind-affecting, sense-dependent, fear effect.

Reflective Hide (Ex) A sand brute’s hide can reflect lasers. The creature takes only half damage dealt by weapons in the laser group, and when struck by an attack from a weapon in the laser group as a reaction it can make a ranged attack with a +9 bonus against the EAC of an enemy within 15 feet. If it hits, the sand brute deals an amount of fire damage to that target equal to the damage it took. This ranged attack doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity.

Naboh quickly readies his rifle and sights on the beast, but decides there are too many friendlies in the way. Instead, he scurries away, hoping to flank the beast if it continues its present course.

Padme' is frustrated at her missed shot but as the creature charges forward, sudden recognition hits her. It's hide is reflective..I recommend we do not use laser weapons! Padme' says raising her voice modulator to clearly emphasize urgency. Stars! glad I missed!

At Padme's exclamation, Remi thinks, No lasers? I'm glad I bought this pistol before we left... The animal, whatever it is, is approaching at an alarming rate, but it's still just slightly beyond the range of where she can aim comfortably. While she crosses off toward the right Remi attempts to read the slope of the landscape just right so that she can aim a shot with the right angle to compensate for the difficulty.

Sev backs away from the creature, slowly at first. The android shows
uncharacteristic apprehension, fumbling around before finally drawing its pulsecaster. Yet, once its weapon is drawn, its demeanor suddenly transforms as the android readies its grip and lowers its profile. Defensive protocols engaged. Positioning for offensive strike.

As a single move action, Sev moves six squares southward and combines that with drawing its pulsecaster pistol due to its +1 BAB. Sev uses its standard action for Total Defense (+4 to AC until start of next turn, cannot make attacks of opportunity).

Naboh cringes as the beast's terrible roar reaches into his ears and squeezes his brain. Or so it feels.

Come on, man, keep it together. It's just a creature, despite how big those fangs look.

He sights down his rifle's barrel, but at the last second finds his view blocked by Sev. Scowling, he moves to the side and quickly fires off a shot, trying his best to look brave even when he doesn't feel brave.

The feline-like creature lets out a fearsome roar, but Remi steels her nerve. When facing down an aggressive animal, don’t let it know you’re afraid, she counsels herself. At least it has run into closer range now. She backs up a few cautious steps and then aims her weapon once more. This time she aims for its limbs, hoping to throw off its stride just as it steps onto an uneven patch of the desert-like surface.

This brute is getting too close time for something less subtle Padme draws a frag grenade and throws it at the beast area. ranged throw: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 2 = 10dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5 grenade explodes in 15' radius doing piercing damage. Padme' is one range increment away thus the -2 penalty

The Sand Brute is showered with gunfire from Twik and Remi (-6, -4), then gets a grenade dropped on him (-5) and its primitive animal mind gets assaulted (-5)!
Poor kitty....

The Sand Brute, not being accustomed to such a brutal and varied assault, feels pangs of fear but continues to attack!

Id beats feet through the sand away from the charging beast, then turns and fires two more bolts of mystical energy at it.

Hang tight, Padme, Id communicates telepathically to the android as he approaches it. He focuses his mind, causing his tactical spear to levitate out of its straps on his back, point toward the creature, and launch forward.

Move to location, standard cast telekinetic projectile to throw Id's spear. Damage to the spear is negated by its hardness.

Padme' is shocked by the sudden ferocity of the Sand Brute's attack. She first guardedly steps away from the creature (guarded step)(move action) and then withdraws to a location further from it's snapping jaws.(regular move)

Heeding Padme's warning about the creature's hide being reflective, Sev postulates that the hide may be silicon-based. Within seconds, it reconfigures the heat suppressor on the barrell on its pulsecaster pistol in order to raise the temperature of the discharge and, thereby, lower the resistivity of the silicon in the creature's hide.

Sev spends a move action for Empowered Weapon[Su], expending a 1st level spell slot and resulting in a +1 bonus to attack rolls and an additional 1d6 damage of the same type as the weapon until the start of Sev's next turn.

Then Sev fires at the beast.

Padme' dives out of the way as Dyukela's stone and Sev's pistol fire slam into the brute, bringing it down where it stands!

End of Combat

You all move closer to get a better look at the corpse of the now-dead brute. At first, it appeared horrifying but in the end, your party expertly took it down without suffering too much injury.

Then, as you gaze up away from the sand brute, you see several upright figures standing at the edge of the next bluff approximately 60 feet away. They appear to be watching your group. From where you stand, you can see clearly that they're armed with rifles but it's also clear their weapons are not pointed at you.

Id walks to the beast's corpse and picks up his spear. He points it to the sky and waves it at the distant figures, acknowledging their presence and a hopefully peaceful manner. They look like shirren, a little. They're not hostile, judging from their body language. We should attempt to make a good first impression. Who has the translator? I've also got a couple spell gems if we need them.

When Id picks up his spear and waves it at them, they flinch, taking half a step back. But they do not raise their weapons at you and seem to be maintaining the same stance while watching your group.

Sev notes that the beings reacted to Id and that their insectoid forms differ considerably from its own. Sev turns to the others in the party: "My programming has not always proven effective in matters of social interfacing. Recommendation: Perhaps one of you should do the talking."

Id straps his spear to his back again and claps Sev on the shoulder. I’ll talk to them. He retrieves a spell gem of share language from his pack, then approaches the strangers with his arms outstretched, indicating nonviolence. He gestures calmly to the gem, then to the figures. Hopefully they understand that I mean them no harm by touching them to activate the spell...

"Would you like it if a stranger walked up to you and wanted to cast a spell on you?" Remi asks skeptically. "But if they don't understand our language and your spell works, that would greatly help the situation." She very slowly and cautiously holsters her pistol, then holds out both hands to show that they are empty. "Maybe they were hunting this creature? Or it could be a pet of some kind, but then you'd think they'd be more angry that we were fighting against it."

She follows a short ways behind Id and speaks aloud in the newcomers' direction, in as calming a voice as she can manage, "Don't worry, we don't want to hurt you. We're explorers. Can you understand us?"

She repeats the same message in Shirren, in case they understand that language better.

Having assessed that it cannot assist in diplomatic overtures(with a total -3 to any Diplomacy check), Sev does not make any movement toward the alien beings. Instead, Sev turns towards Id, "As a gesture of good will, perhaps you should provide them with a warning of a probable sandstorm that may come through the area approximately one planetary rotation from now."

With its contribution to first contact having been made, Sev continues to analyze the situation.

First Postulate: The orbital defense platform launched hostile drones without any apparent provocation. Second postulate: These native beings have not initiated any hostile actions against us despite our obvious offensive capabilities. Conclusion: Either these beings have chosen to forego further offensive actions due to an assessment that our offensive capabilities have shown to be superior to their defenses or the beings before us are not the entities responsible for the orbital defense system.

Sev trains its sensors on the native's attire and equipment in an effort to determine whether they are consistent with the level of technology displayed by the orbital defense system.

Not sure if that would be an Engineering check or a Physical Sciences check, but Sev is +9 in each

Padme' collapses to her bottom after the Sand Brute drops. She just about to suggest the group take a breather when the new arrivals appear in the distance. She dust of her overalls as she stands. Thanks every one... Padme' says to her companions. Perhaps the captain ought to make first contact though? motioning to Sev+ she says, Find out who among us is most talented in linguistics...I want that person by my side when I speak with our new friends. You stay near and adjust the translator as we speak..perhaps if I can get them talking we can garner something useful to begin deciphering their tongue. Padme dismisses Sev+ and ushers Remi over.. I'm not saying I expect trouble..but keep alert please Remi.

Padme' then walks up to the aliens arms open in a gesture of no hostility. sense motive on aliens: 1d20 - 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) - 2 + (3) = 20 Sensing that they too would like peaceful contact. Padme begins to try and communicate with this strange new species.

Hello I am Padme' of Absalom. These are my colleagues. We were sent by an Organization known as the Starfinder Society...I am a half organic half synthetic being. In my system my species is know as an android. What do you refer to your own species as? Padme' continues trying to communicate simple concepts like this as long as the aliens allow. She even pauses to drink some water and if the aliens seem fascinated, tries to explain the process of re-hydration to them.

With the strange creature dead and the natives come to play, Twik has a minute to catch his breath while the more charasmatic of the group take the lead.

Still about 60 feet away, when they see Id and Remi make a show of putting their weapons away, one of them similarly makes a show of obviously strapping its rifle to its back. The one with the rifle now holstered away, begins to slowly walk forward towards Id and Remi, doing what it can to keep its distance from other members of the Starfinder party while approaching Id and Remi only.

The couple other beings remain where they are on top of the bluff, rifles in hand but pointed away.

Id, Remi, and Padme' slowly walk forward. When the three of you are about 30 feet away from the lead being it stops and won't move closer - slowly circling around a bit if necessary to keep Id and Remi between itself and Padme'. When Remi and Padme' speak, it listens and it speaks something in return, but in a language you don't understand. It then holds up one of its hands (which is empty) and lowers its head, giving you a clear view of the flat of it's mandible.

Culture DC 18:
You recognize its speech as similar to the repeated audio message from the orbital platform, but simpler and more gutteral.

For Sev and Padme':
Looking intently at the lead being's attire and gear, it appears to be fairly crudely equipped, far more primitive in relation to the technology of the orbital defense system. It's clothing and gear are more akin to wilderness survivalists than a spacefarer. The rifle strapped to its back seems to be a strange arquebus-style weapon.

For Padme':
It is certainly insectoid in appearance with mandibles that perhaps can serve as weapons if needed, although you suspect the rifle it has stowed away is far more effective. From this viewing at a distance, it's not clear if they have a hive mind or how their respitory system works. Judging from the fact that it spoke, however, it's clear that it does have a language, so perhaps there is no hive mind. Physically, it appears to be an above-ground dwelling species. Its appendages do not appear to be adapted for digging. Also, it possesses no wings so the only obvious mode of locomotion is simply walking.

Sev turns to Dyukela and its two ysoki teammates. "The attire and weaponry of these creatures do not appear to be indicative of spacefaring peoples. Therefore, it is unlikely that they are responsible for the orbital defense system."

"Furthermore", the android continues, "given the ability of the technological sophistication required to enclose an urban development within a force-field, it is unlikely that these beings are inhabitants of the city. As we were unable to detect any other artificial structures within the immediate vicinity, I postulate that these beings are either nomadic or inhabit natural structures--I believe in the common vernacular they would be referred to as 'cave dwellers'."

The android's head suddenly twitches to the side, before it continues, "It is possible that the city we located is, in fact, an attempt to establish a colony on this world. That would suggest that this planet offers potential resources that we have not yet been able to discern."

Sev pauses to watch and listen to the alien beings as they interact with its fellow agents in the distance.

"Curious." utters Sev. "The auditory communications of these beings is quite similar to that of the automated message originating from the orbital defenses that we encountered. This suggests the existence of a link between the two. Perhaps the colonization theory is... erroneous."

Looking to its fellow agents, Sev inquires, "Do any of you have suggestions as to alternative theories?"

"If you say Sev+ that there is a similarity between the languages spoken by these creatures and that we heard from the platform then there is definitely some connection between them. Maybe it's best to wait and see if our team talking to them will find out more."said Dyukela worried.

Padme' looks at Id-Sinitis on her right. He's trying to get them to touch the spell chip so we can communicate..that's a brilliant idea! Padme' does her best to pantomime and gesture all the while speaking calm soft words to the new race. Please, touch the spell chip..it will help us to communicate. diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 6 + (4) = 22

Note: Padme' continues to talk for up to 10 minutes..If they continue to just stand there non-responsive . Padme' takes a break and let's someone else try while resting for 10 min and using a resolve point to gain back her stamina.

The lead being speaks again and seems to state the same message or at least it sounds similar.

The combined movements and gestures of Id, Remi, and Padme' seems to relax it a bit, but it doesn't move any closer.

It does however raise a hand, points towards Id and Remi, then gives them a come closer wave. At least you think it means 'come closer.'

Remi hesitates when the one who was sent forward begins making gestures. "Was that some kind of greeting, do you think?" It could mean anything, although so far their actions have appeared nonthreatening. So Remi shrugs and tries to mirror the first action by raising one hand and lowering her head. She peeks upward to see how this is received and looks around at her teammates to see if they have any other input. "Well, either it wants to be friends or it wants the helpless ones without weapons out to be over there. I think we should risk it."

If no one objects, Remi will move over to it.

Padme' realizes she's been holding the laser pistol the whole time she puts her hand up and slowly slides the pistol back in it's sheath. she then motions back to the spell chip..touch it...it won't hurt I promise. Padme' makes to touch the spell chip but, unsure how it works stops. She does however, continue to induce the new race to touch it and tries to communicate as best she can.

Upon seeing Padme' put her weapon away, the being very noticeably relaxes. It also seems to take a liking to Remi after Remi mimicked it's actions. It begins to move forward, now approaching all three of you, no longer trying to avoid Padme'. It stops about 10 feet away and doesn't shy away as you move in closer. All three of you can specify how close you move to it. It won't move away.

Again, it repeats more or less what it said earlier. In addition, it points to itself and says a single word, which sounds like 'Dystane.'

The other beings standing on the bluff, seeing that the party's weapons have been put away, now do the same - strapping their rifles onto their back. In addition, they also begin to move forward but will stop and watch from about 20 feet away.

The lead being turns its attention to the gem that Id is holding out, looking at it, then looking at Id, then looking back at the gem again.

Sense Motive DC 12:
All of their actions at this point do not appear threatening. More than anything, their actions show curiousity.

A little frustrated she addresses Remi, They seem to be responding better to you. I need to go rest for a few moments my armor was pretty torn when that Sand Brute grabbed hold of me.

Padme' walks over to a nearby sand dune and takes a break while her comrades take over introductions.

GM if Padme' has 10 min of quiet time..she'll spend a resolve point to regain all her Stamina.
