Zypher |
Perhaps a bit of the Lady's luck is needed to end this pointless battle.
Seeing his companions health stabilized for the moment Zypher steps up behind Faux and rests his hand upon the Knights shoulder, "Do you accept the Lady's Luck my friend or do you wish to continue to combat the air around this...creature? The wind you create swinging your sword honors my Lady, perhaps she will honor you with your next strike."
Bit of Luck. For the next round any time you roll a d20 you may roll two and take the better result.

Faux's sword makes a keening sound as it cuts in and through the little blue man, ending his screeching voice and icy attacks. As the parts of the fairy spray all over Valgor, you see the glint of a tiny shard of ice glitter for a moment in the fey's insides before shattering and melting to nothingness.
Some overkill? ... Combat is over. Haze wakes up and can move again in about 18 sec.
Scattered about the clearing are the remains of a stag, a dragonlike creature, and 2 tiny fey. With the atomie's death, Valgor's great sword is still very small.

Hazé comes to and an eye opens from a face half-pressed into snow.
It moves slowly, scanning darkness before he can make out the shapes of the trees against a cloudy sky. Grunting, he can barely make his arms lift his torso from the furrow created by his body.
Attempting to survey the scene through his impaired vision, he manages to bring his knees under him, and comes to a wobbly stand. He fixes his gaze on the dead fey as he stands there, waiting for the world to stabilize and come into focus.
Having passed through the veil of mortality, may your souls find themselves larger than their corporeal forms. He scans the party's demeanor and the path that leads off into the forest, towards the woman they were hired to rescue. ... and prepare the banquet halls of your god. I suspect your friends will be in attendance.
"A sign..." he manages to croak out as his voice returns to him. He turns his head upright to look upon the sun. Though he is defended against the cold, Hazé shivers as the darkness is replaced by the light of day and he can see normally once more. "તેમણે હજુ પણ જુએ"
"Are any of you injured? If we do not wish our charge to fly beyond our reach, we should continue on."

Vaethic tries to come to attention as quickly as he can.
"ક્યાં છે? તે વૃક્ષો નો સમાવેશ થાય છે? કદાચ અન્ય મરણાસન્ન?"
Faux the Errant |
Faux takes a few moments to calm down Noble, murmuring pleasantly to the creature as the glow within the armor fades. When the horse is sufficiently calmed, Faux bows low to Zypher.
"You have my gratitude, favored of the gods. I walked perilously close to death's door this day, and it was your hand that kept me from entering. I shall not forget this blessing."
"Damned... Fey... Freaking... Cold... Saps the energy... right... out of... you..."
From within the depths of Noble's saddlebags, Faux retrieves a set of worn, faintly horse smelling cold weather gear.
"See if these will help you fight off this unearthly cold, friend," Faux says, offering the garments to Vaethic.

"Incidentally, I'd advise we heed Zypher and keep an ever vigilant eye towards our surroundings. It seems these winter fey have a penchant for obfuscation and ambushes. We must be cautious."
Mayumi Sasaki |
After Mayumi spends a couple of moments attempting to recover spent bolts and reloading her crossbow, she examines the trail more closely. Suppressing a shiver, she closes up her leather armor more tightly and falls in next Zypher. "Ah, pretty man. Don't worry so much about the traps and tricks of these foul monsters. It just makes them more fun to hunt. comments Mayumi. In a conspiratorial whisper to Zypher, "Err.. Did you see Sir Faux glow from inside the armor? Do you think there is something off about him?"

Following the trail of the bandits for another 20 minutes, the weather gets worse and the snow lightly falling begins obscuring vision and hiding the tracks you follow. If this keeps up overnight, the tracks will be thoroughly hidden making your task much more difficult.
A human-sized snowman stands in the middle of the trail before a frozen stream with snow-covered rocks lining its banks. A crude wooden sign leans against the snowman and bears the words “Trespassers Turn Back.” The legs and feet of a frozen corpse jut from a pile of snow near the trees on the other side of the 20 foot wide stream.
Hazard: The frozen creek acts as an ice sheet; entering a square covered in ice costs 2 squares of movement, and the DC of Acrobatics checks increases by 5 in such squares. A successful DC 10 Acrobatics check is required to run or charge across the creek. The creek is only 6 feet deep, but any immersed in the cold water must immediately succeed at a DC 15 Fortitude save or they each take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and suffer from hypothermia (treat as fatigued). These penalties (and the ensuing damage) only end if the victims change into dry clothes, get warm, and heal the nonlethal damage taken from exposure.

If the snowman doesn't react, then using his fire-sculpting ability, Hazé will spread the flames over the snowman.
"Do not concern yourself with standing watch over this frozen path, waiting for the sun in fear. A long melt that looms overhead, instead you are saved by a quick sear."
Hazé watches the melting snowman intently.
Valgor |
Valgor looks around for any fallen trees that we may be able to put across the stream and walk across, or any dead trees we may be able to cut down and use for the same purpose.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Anyone see anything we can use as a make shift bridge?
GM Viskous |
The sign burns a little and is quickly put out by the snow. The poor snowman has a massive hole melted through the center of it. Looking about the trail, there doesn't appear to be any trees that are thick enough to be a solid bridge, though with about an hour's work (without proper tools) you could fashion a makeshift bridge. The ice is remarkably thick looking from 35 feet away.
I assume you haven't approached the snowman's remains, since you're terrified of the next ambush
Faux the Errant |
Survival vs. DC 15: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Pfft. Yeah, man. I have a firm grasp of this whole snow thing.
"Excellent scouting, Sir Biros," says Faux, watching the snowman burn. "And to answer your question, I have about 100ft. of rope with me. I can walk a safety line to the other side if security is your concern."
Faux begins digging through Noble's saddlebags for the rope.
I seem to have an aptitude for setting off these ambushes thus far. Let's see if crossing that river will be a repeat performance.
Unless anyone has a better idea, Faux will attempt to walk across the stream.
GM Viskous |
As Sir Faux passes by the remains of the snowman a voice calls out,“Can’t you read? The sign says turn back! Now get lost!” After a few moments of furtive looking, you cannot find anything to attribute the voice to. After countless minutes of indecision, Faux proceeds to cross the stream, noticing several weak spots in the ice and avoiding them adroitly. While slippery, the armored knight clears the obstacle with little trouble.
The legs sticking out of the bushes are those of an old man, clearly dead. He has the gear of a soldier, but it is considerably out of date and ill fitting on the man. The gear is in excellent condition and appears to be well maintained.
This body belongs to Old Man Dansby, a farmer of Heldren. He also used to be a soldier in the Taldan Expeditionary Army.

Mayumi Sasaki |
With little trouble, Mayumi skips across the ice and assists Faux in examining the corpse. "No wounds, it looks like he might have died of the cold weather. Several people perished from the cold during my trip over the Crown of the World." sighs Mayumi.
Looking at the items closely she calls out to Zypher, "Pretty man! This looks like a wand. Want to check it out?"
KN:Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
"One of the bar patrons, mentioned that Dansby had been complaining that some of his crops had gone missing the other day. It looks like he came out here to find out what was happening and froze to death. Rough death for a Taldan soldier. We should bring his remains back to town when we head back."
Hazé Biros |
The elf looks upon the body of Dansby.
"Who waits for you, soldier? Your brothers at arms? Your friends of service past?" In the cold, but not alone.
Hazé follows the knight across the stream.
Valgor |
Luck smiles upon us, this is a curing wand, I can use this, but others may be able to as well. Anyone else need help across the stream?
Zypher |
"Sigh, yes wonderful scouting, surely you've led...wait, did someone say wand?"
Zypher recklessly runs across the stream as if driven by a fresh breeze.
"The Lady provides! Not Luck Sir Valgor, the Lady herself smiles upon us. But why did she lead you to this gift Sir Valgor, and not I her faithful servant. Are you a follower of the Lady Shelyn as well or is she simply teaching me a lesson for loosing faith in her?"
Mayumi Sasaki |
"Well I did try calling your attention to it, but our orcish friend here was very eager to examine the wand." explains Mayumi, and with an impish grin continues, "I'm not really a Lady, though I do like how Sir Faux calls me Lady Sasaki."
Hazé Biros |
Hazé continues trudging across the river behind the armored knight.
He turns back and raises his voice to be heard without quite yelling. "The damsel remains in distress."
Faux the Errant |
“Can’t you read? The sign says turn back! Now get lost!”
"Did anyone else hear that?" Faux calls out from the far shore.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Odd that something has snuck up on me and has yet to attempt a dastardly attack.
"The damsel remains in distress."
"I suppose you are right, haste would be paramount here."
Faux whistles at Noble Steed, a long, lifting tone that perks Noble's ears. In response, the horse beginnings to follow it's master.
Zypher |
"I hesitate to question my Lady's judgement in putting this blessed gift into Valgor's capable hands. Perhaps she is trying to tell us that he should serve as this parties esteemed healer while I continue to learn whatever lesson She is teaching me."
Mayumi Sasaki |
"Well this lady, thinks that Valgor is better off smacking things with his new sword and singing his rousing war songs than dancing about on the winds bringing succor to the needy."chides Mayumi, as she quickly snatches the wand from Valgor and tosses it to Zypher. " I bet the phrase attached there is the activation word!"

After safely crossing the stream and collecting Dansby’s items, the group continues to follow the trail through the snow. The light delicate flakes begin to thicken and drop more quickly the deeper into the woods the group progresses. The trail leads to a natural outcropping that has the remains of a fire and appears to be a watch post of some sort.
With a thorough examination of the sight, it appears that three medium humanoids left this sight a couple of hours ago. Pushing through the snow has worn the group out and they decide to rest for a few hours with a small campfire to ward off hypothermia.

After climbing at least a hundred feet into the hills, the snowy trail finally levels off. In a clearing among the trees, a large wooden lodge overlooks a ravine spanned by a long rope bridge. Smoke rises from the lodge’s two snow-covered chimneys, and large woodpile is stacked against the outer wall. A small outbuilding stands east of the lodge, and a stone well nearly blanketed by snow is barely recognizable to the north. Several tracks lead southwest toward a detached stable.
Seeing the building and smoke up ahead you hobble your horses in a small widening of the trail and approach the building on foot.
Feel free to post, also the map should be visible shortly, and I should get you all moveable real soon. Once you move yourselves on the map, if you want to bring your horse along go ahead and place it too.
