Lilyroot:
In the evening, you sit with the millworkers as they play dice and get to know a couple of them. You learn that the mill is owned the Scarnetti family, but is usually run by a man named Banny Harker. Some of the workers worry that eventually the mayor is going to shut down their nighttime operations because of the noise and that will mean less work and less pay. One of them seems to have developed a rash from a recent shipment of wood and mentions going to ".. Tander's place. That crazy elf charges less than Podiker, even though his stuff could melt my skin just as well..." He laughs it off. Questioning him confirms that another alchemist in town, one Nisk Tander, runs a place called Bottled Solutions.

Maerra:
You find at the Help Wanted sign the next day people looking for a guide in the nearby Tickwood forest for a hunting trip. Make a Survival roll and divide by 10. That is how much in gp they are willing to pay you for the day .

Aurica:
You spend the day telling the fortunes of those willing to pay and you get the usual subjects: love, crops, health, money, etc. One topic that seems to come up most however is doom. They all wonder if Sandpoint will ever know true safety and security. Also, in Sandpoint you get a +1 to rolls to make money and I'm using the Downtime rules for money, so your result is simply divided by 10 to get daily money. That should give you 1gp and 6sp.

Milah:
The next day, Sheriff Belor asks you to train some of the militia in your sword skills, for a modest fee of course. Make an attack roll with an additional +1. Then divide by 10. That will be how much gp you make in a day of training.

Sorush:
It seems your past will never let go of you. The next day a messenger leaves you a note to meet with a member of the local crew. It seems that they need someone to distract the guards from an incoming merchant wagon and your unique skills would help immensely in this task. Make a Profession check at an additional +1 and divide by 10. That's how much your cut is that day.

Zev:
The next day, a couple of rangers from Magnimar come looking for help trailing what they believe might be a giant raiding party in the area. While your search turns up nothing useful, they pay you for your time. Roll Survival with Tracking and add +1 then divide by 10. That is how much gp they pay you. On your return to town that evening, before you go into the Rusty Dragon, a very beautiful redhead approaches you. She asks that you come to her place and help take care of a few big rats that have started coming up since the attack the other day..

With enough silver to pay for a few days in town without relying on her 'hero' status, Maerra breathes a little easier.

Zev's downtime:

Survival(track): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5

Zev was upon the roof of the Rusty Dragon fixing a loose shingle, when a call from below caused him to raise his head. Two men called him down, Rangers they were, from Magnimar, wanting him to help them track some giants they'd heard was in the area.

Eagerly, Zev joined them in their search, but it was for naught. False trails led them nowhere, until the Magnimarians called off the search. Pressing a few pieces of silver into his palm at the Gate, they bid farewill to Zev.

Impressed with their generosity, Zev counted out 5 silver pieces into his pouch.

Then he remembered the work he had been doing on the roof of the Rusty Dragon. Hurrying he almost ran over a red-haired lady...a very pretty red-haired lady.

Blinking, his hand around her waist where he'd instictively grabbed her to prevent her falling, he hurriedly stepped back and stammered out an apology.

Then she spoke to him, explaining about the rats in her house, and whether he could help kill them.

Any thought of his earlier infatuation with Ameiko was dashed from his mind, as she smiled prettily at him, he could still feel the softness of her from when he'd held her earlier, "You're pretty...." he said softly, before remembering Aldern's gesture to Milah at the dinner. Gently, he grasped the girl's hand , and bowed over it, giving it the lightest of kisses, "I'll help ya.." he said, somehow looking the pretty girl in the eye.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Zev :
Remember that we roll 3d6 instead of d20, so you'd have a minimum of 7 silver. You can reroll if you like.

The woman walks with you down the streets and you notice that some of the local ladies make faces at her as you pass by. Eventually you stand outside the general store with a sign that proudly says Vinder's. She leads you to a side door and takes out a key from just inside her top. As you go down the stairs, you see a warehouse full of crates and barrels. Off in one corner you notice an area lit by several candles and a bunch of furs laid out on the floor. As you are taking this all in, you feel her hand on your cheek. She steps closer and whispers in your ear. "There are no rats here.. I just wanted you alone.." At that, she places your hands around her and leans in for a kiss...

Lilyroot takes note of the other alchemist! She offers the man a Goodberry (racial spell, 1 point of healing), "I don't know if it'll help a rash but most people find these pleasant!"

And if anyone's interested, she uses the rest of the batch as betting collateral.

Though she recognizes Aldern's attentions, Milah does nothing to encourage them. He must think I'm going to be impressed by his show of gallantry. Perhaps that's what he's used to, but he'll not get the same reaction from me..., she thinks, and only smiles politely in return.

The following day, she agrees to show the militia some small tricks.
Though few of the soldiers are able to fully grasp the intricacies of her movements and style, she is able to run them through a number of drills. Later in the day, when she has identified a number of promising individuals, she spars with them, parrying their thrusts with relative ease.

Attack: 3d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) + 6 + 1 = 19 (1gp 9sp, then?)

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Correct Milah. We are still finishing up this last day, but the rest of you can roll the next two downtime days if you like, then on to the next big thing...

Zev's downtime con't:

Since a lot of men wouldn't have the commonsense to resist the girl's advances, and Zev doesn't have much commonsense at all, i think I'll leave his reaction up to chance. She did lie to get him there, so there's a chance this will make him reconsider...let's say a DC 13 Will save to resist her charms :)

Will Save, DC 13: 3d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) - 1 = 12

At first Zev is abit taken aback by the girl's deception, but then she's in his arms and he's overcome with the nearness of her, the smell of her skin and hair, the softness of her body under her dress.

With scarce a thought in his dim head, Zev leans in , pulls the girl tight and grants her the kiss she so obviously desires...

Re-rolling Survival, thanks for the reminder

The next few days each of you spend learning about the town of Sandpoint and helping rebuild by offering your services in various ways. Soon it seems as if you have become part of the town. Almost everyone that passes you knows your name and nods or waves or even winks in your direction. Things seem to be getting back to normal, despite recent events. That is until breakfast one day...

Starday, 28 Rova 4707, 8:49am

You are all sitting down around the breakfast table discussing the things you have learned and done in the past few days when the door bursts open and in walks a man you don't recognize. He is older, with sharp features and black hair, wearing what looks to be an expensive robe of some kind. He starts yelling in a foreign language, only one word you can clearly understand. "Ameiko!"

While he is raving, the other patrons quietly go to their meals, more interested in what is in their bowls than what he has to say. That's when his eyes alight on you. His accent is thick. "You! Adventurers! Heh! Why they put up with the likes of you around here I'll never know. People like you draw bad attention to us. Hemlock should throw the lot of you out!" He stalks toward you, but not before Ameiko comes rushing out and yelling at him in their language... the argument continues for a time, you see fingers from both pointing in your direction...

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Milah attempts to discern the man's motivations as she steps forward. "Please, sir; I don't know what we may have done to upset you, but let me assure you that we have nothing but the interests of the town at heart. In fact, we have been spending the past few days attempting to rebuild and restore Sandpoint to the best of each of our abilities. Surely you cannot fault us for that?"

Sense Motive: 3d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) + 7 = 19

Milah:
You get a sense that the man is undeniably angry at his daughter, but for what, you don't know. However you do note that his hands are shaking and not from anger, more from fear..

The older man glares at Milah intently. "I can fault you for whatever I like. My family built this town and I will not let it fall apart to the likes of you. We were doing just fine before you" he points at Ameiko, "Went gallivanting all over Varisia looking for who knows what. We're going back to Magnimar and that's final."

"My home is here, with these people, with my friends.", Ameiko waves her arms over you and all the patrons. "They are good company and I'm making a good living. Just because you don't think what they do is honest work doesn't mean it doesn't need getting done."

The rage in the man boils to the surface. He reaches out to grab Ameiko, but she easily dodges and smacks him in the side of the head with a ladle full of something that originally smelled delicious. He looks at her, looks at you, then storms out of the building. He turns one last time, "You are dead to me, as dead to me as your mother."

As the door closes shut behind him, Ameiko pulls a hair out of the ladle and drops it to the ground. "Wasn't planning on jackass stew tonight.." A couple of the patrons nervously laugh as she slowly walks towards the kitchen...

Zev watches as the man and Ameiko feuded, not really getting what they were arguing about.

He had to stifle a giggle at the man's face when Ameiko hit him with the stew-filled ladle.

However, when she slowly turns to go back to the kitchen, he stands and goes with her, not touching or talking, just being there for her...

Milah sighs and shakes her head, Some people are just intentionally pig-headed, I suppose... She looks after Ameiko as she departs for the kitchen, but does not follow; instead, she takes a moment to discuss the incident with the rest of the patrons.

Diplomacy (Gather Information): 3d6 + 10 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) + 10 = 22

Lilyroot approaches the others and says, "I was glad to be of service when I could, but I believe my work will be carried out elsewhere. I wish you the best of luck!"

She gives a small bow and goes to depart the town.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Milah talks with the other patrons as the rest of you return to dinner, all but Zev. Zev finds Ameiko in the kitchen, furiously cutting vegetables into the tiniest parts. She barely notices Zev approach. She doesn't say anything the rest of the night, but accepts any help Zev might give.

The patrons are only too happy to tell you about the long feud between Ameiko and her father. He is the wealthy owner of the Glassworks here in Sandpoint and also owns a distinctive manor in Magnimar. He wanted her to take over the business as he got older after his wife and her mother died a large number of years ago. Her adventuring ways were not behind herthen and she refused. Eventually she did settle down and took over the Rusty Dragon. He did not approve of this either. With recent events, he seems to want to get out of Sandpoint quickly and take her with. She doesn't want to go. Some of the patrons tell you that he has even stopped accepting long term orders recently...

Lily is taking her leave of the group and it seems Sorush might have already as well unfortunately... thank you so much to those who are still here!

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Milah's brow furrows at the news about Lilyroot, but she nods understandingly. "Best of luck to you in whatever adventures may come..."

She tucks the information regarding Ameiko and her father away in case it becomes useful, but doesn't feel that it's her place to get in the middle of a family squabble.

Given the night's events, she bids the remaining few a good night and retires to her room.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

The next day comes and the town is getting back to normal. Though there are still rumors of goblins hiding under barrels, or in attics or even under people's clothes.. Though they all turn out to be false alarms or one of the local boys playing tricks on the poor townsfolk, there is still an edge in the air, something you can't quite put your finger on. The brawls at the Fatman's Feedbag have been more violent of late and even the Hagfish has had a few scuffles spill into the street. Nonetheless, Sheriff Hemlock hasn't left yet and his militia and your ever present heroic selves seems to keep anything truly nasty away, for the time being.

Ameiko's fight with her father is still fresh in your minds, but she pays no mind to it. Instead she offers all of you an extra week at the Rusty Dragon for attempting to help her stand up to her father...

One more day of Downtime and then next event...

Regardless of his success on the roof, he's a constant presence at the Tavern, both because he's living there and because of Ameiko.

At some point after lunch, all of you decide to go and visit the reclusive old man Ilsoar. He is found in his book store, the Curious Goblin, reading up on some creatures that have been known to inhabit the area and he looks to have a goblin's ear on the desk with him. He only barely looks up over his thin glasses at you.

"I suppose Hemlock sent you to ask about the goblins?"

Milah looks curiously at the ear on the man's desk, then pulls her attention - with some effort - back to him. "In part, yes; Any information you have about the goblins would be helpful. That said, we also have questions about some activities that seem to have coincided with the attack. Namely, the crypt of your former priest was raided; the grave robbers took the body but left behind a couple of skeletons and a robe. Would you be able to shed any light on that, perhaps?"

Savage Rifts RotRwT

He nods slowly. "I might be able to help you there. As far as the Goblins go, there are numerous around this these parts, living in five tribes as far as I'm aware. Each one having some sort of unique identifier to mark their tribe. You will have to ask Shalelu about that. That elf can identify any Goblin from a distance. How to get rid of them though? Take away any sort of thing they would consider food. Unfortunately for everyone, that's pretty much everything that will fit in their mouth." He sighs, taking his glasses off and cleaning them quickly on his tunic before continuing.

"Only one thing I am aware of requires the digging up of bodies. Necromancy. Vile stuff that. Dark magic used to raise the dead to some semblance of life. Very evil. I don't see how the goblin attack and that go together, but if I were a betting man, I'd say one was a distraction for the other. If I were a betting man. " He looks to you expectantly, as if knowing you have more questions...

"Have you seen this symbol before?" Aurica draws the seven-pointed star for him. "The old scholar told us it's from ancient Thassilon, but had no explanation for why it has shown up now after a goblin attack."

The man looks at the symbol Aurica has drawn and frowns. "I have seen this symbol, many times. These books and some of the ones I have at the Academy all have them. It used to be the symbol of Lisalla, an ancient deity of Thassilon. After a time, her worshippers lost sight of her teachings and the symbol became that of the rulers of the Thassilonian Empire, seven very evil rulers, from what I've read. Each one embraced and then perverted one of the seven virtues of leadership and turned them into vices, or so the story goes. As to what it has to do with your goblins or the body that was taken, all I can really say is that Sandpoint itself was built on the ruins of Thassilon. The Old Light, the broken down tower on the shore, used to be one of their defense towers. I've seen some of the junk goblins there before they raided where Gorvi's boys dump the garbage. Maybe they picked it up and started using it as their tribal symbol. Who knows?" He stops for a minute, looking at each of you. "There are many threats still facing Sandpoint. Hemlock refuses to see them until they are in his face. Perhaps if you brought proof of it, he might get more help from Magnimar."

He goes back to reading and you could swear you saw the page in the book turn itself..

"You're not the first to mention Shalelu to us, either. How do we find her?"

Savage Rifts RotRwT

He looks up from his book again and smiles. "I'm glad to see you so interested. Could use you as an example at the Academy. Nonetheless, Shalelu only comes around when she feels a threat to Sandpoint is enough to warrant actual action. She was here a couple of weeks ago, but usually she only goes and reports to the mayor and then gathers some provisions and leaves again. She isn't due for a while. I'm sure with you in town though and the attacks the other day, she might be along soon."

He seems to stop, as if time itself quit affecting him. Then, as if nothing happened, he reaches for one of the many books on the table next to him and hands it to Maerra. "Take this. It's my notes on the history of things gone wrong here in Sandpoint and the area around it. You'll find two particular entries are bookmarked. One, the Sandpoint Devil. The bogeyman story of the area. Everyone that has claimed to have seen it was also proven to be a drunken story or something else, but there is evidence that such a beast still exists. Then, there is old Blackfang. She's real. No one has heard of her activities in a long time, but with the recent uptick in goblin raids, she might awake from her slumber enough to pay attention and when she does, she will be hungry. There is a third that the local fishermen will tell you about, but I'm not so worried about a giant fish terrorizing a town that is mostly on land. If you must, just ask them about Murdermaw and buy them a drink." He smiles at that but then continues. "Of course, there are the goblins themselves and some of the local fauna, but for heroes of your stature, I'm sure that they are beneath your eyes." You aren't sure if he is being sarcastic here, but the wry smile he wears is proof enough.

Zev had been poking about in the old man's shelves, gingerly touching this curio or this dried out specimen.

"What is it? More gobs?" Maerra demands as she jumps up, axe in hand. Ilsoar is instantly forgotten

Aurica quickly closes the book Ilsoar gave them and stows it away in her pack. She moves to follow her companions, saying to the woman, "What has happened?"

The woman is frantic as she heads towards the residential part of town, other townsfolk giving your group a wide berth, between the screaming baby and drawn weapons..

"My Alergast found a goblin in the closet and he is trying to kill it!"

As you get closer to the home, you see a small human boy, just before his double digits in years, yelling, "Mama! Pa is stuck! The goblins going to get him!" You notice the boy has fresh bite marks on his arm. The front door is wide open as you get near. You don't hear anything coming from inside, however straight through the home all the doors are open so you can see the legs of someone in a hole in the back area..

New map on slide 6... place yourselves...

I'm sure someone else will actually be first through the door, but I've moved Aurica in. Looks like everything will be covered by both auras (but Serendipity isn't up until Aurica has a standard action to spend on it). Everyone has a +1 to Perception and Initiative checks from the Star aura.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Milah gasps (again!) and rushes into the house. Curse my weak arms!, she thinks as she motions to Zev to pull the man out of the hole.

Maerra sends a chair flying as she charges in and grabs one of Alergast's legs with her free hand. The other still holds her axe. "Grab his other leg Zev and Pull!" she yells.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

You pull back the body only to find that a portion of his face and upper have been bitten off and along with it comes a very feral looking goblin with a bit of... something... hanging from one of its fangs. It squeals in delight and attacks!

Initiative and if you beat a 14, you may also post first round actions!

Female Catfolk Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 4 [ HP 44/44 | AC 20 / 14FF / 15T | Fort +5 Ref +9 Wil +2 | Init +4(+6) | Perception +8 | Panache 7/7 | Charmed Life 3/3 ]

Initiative (Star Aura): 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4, 1) + 4 + 1 = 16

Milah steps lightly over the body as her blade flicks out, quickly searching for a weak spot in the goblin's defenses!

Not an action: 5' move, as indicated on map
Standard action: Attack goblin
Attack (Rapier (threaten on 14-18)): 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5) + 6 = 17
Damage (Rapier): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Initiative: 3d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 3) + 3 + 1 = 11

Don't forget your bonus +1 on initiative!

Initiative, star aura: 3d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) + 2 + 1 = 10

Maerra hesitates, disgusted by the mess.

"Huh? Wha?" is all Zev manages to utter before dropping the man's body and backing up in surprise from the violent goblin.

However, he quickly regains his footing an flicks his flail at the head of the despicable humanoid.

Attack: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
