description:
Tall and strong as dwarves go, with red hair and brown eyes. Her gear looks worn and battered and she has some scars showing. People notice when she looks at them - Maerra has a very piercing gaze.

Her speech is filled with slang and cur… Enow o’that! Ya think these wights want t’ hear some long drink of water’d down ale driv’lin on?

background:
The Solrin family was exiled for stealing from other dwarves in Maerra’s grandparents day. She remembers little of this, her grandparents never told her much about it and they died soon after - of shame, other dwarves said. Given her age at the time she isn’t personally exiled but with -slag permanently added to the family name she is far from welcome in dwarven lands.

A further incident adds to this. In her forties (teens to a human) she formed a relationship with a younger son of a wealthy family, Rogar Valdtak, over the objections of his kin. Those objections went further than he or she thought and someone triggered a trap as they snuck out together. The falling rocks crushed him to death and damaged her badly. Rogar died as she held his hand and… something… passed between them. Her left hand seems almost to act on its own sometimes now.

The death was ruled the fault of Thirvar Urmek, a servant of the Valdtak family, which leaves her in the clear legally but makes the Valdtaks no more fond of Maerra. She’s moved on to avoid further incidents, most recently following a story her elder sister Elka once told of helping Daviren Hosk put down a group of goblins and the offer Daviren made her should she ever be in need.

She’s worked as a guide before and came in with a group of Shelyn worshippers heading to the Swallowtail festival who felt they might need her - it wasn’t necessary as it happened but they got along well enough and she’s currently wearing a wooden holy symbol of Shelyn.
