Sami Rackham |
"I agree. Let us go kill those other monsters."

Sami
Red, Blue
Vulpidin Iullus |
Vulpidin will cast bless on the party before they attack, and load his crossbow.
On the surprise round Vulpidin fires at the left creature, trying to aim without looking too closely at their revolting features. Then he reloads and fires again.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13

Lucien dashes down the hallway, bursting through to attack the nearest creature. Standard action charge

shortbow@blue: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Surprise round and first round
GM Fuzzfoot |
Vulpidin's first shot hits the blue-tinged demon before it even knows you're here. Tiyuvi steps in, but misses with his first shot, allowing Lucien to jump off the dock and slice the beast.
Assuming Sami shoots at red...
Then Tiyuvi and Vulpidin swap their success as Tiyuvi is the only one that hits, putting an arrow in the sin spawn's eye, ending its existence.
Sami - you have surprise and round 1 to act. Lucien, blue fell before your round 1 attack. If you would prefer to 5' step towards red instead of away, your second attack will hit - although you will be toe to toe with him. But with his reach, he is a 5' step from full attacking you anyway... just let me know which you prefer. Of course, you could use a full move action rather than just a 5' step if you like.
Sami Rackham |
To start things off Sami keeps it simple, leveling her gun and firing.
Pistol vs Touch: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 1 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
That done she reloads and fires again. Round 1
Pistol vs Touch: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
GM Fuzzfoot |
The creature drops his weapon and tries to tear Lucien apart with his large claws and terrible jaws.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Confirm?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Round 2: (Bold may act)
Tiyuvi
Vulpidin
Lucien (9 dmg)
Sami
Red (10 dmg)
Sami Rackham |
"Yes, lets get some room to work at least."
As she speaks she reloads and levels her pistol.
"Back to hell with you."
Pistol: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Vulpidin Iullus |
Vulpidin quietly reloads and fires his crossbow. The work of death was unpleasant, but these things had to die.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 - 4 = 1
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
But he fumbles the bolt and fires it at the wall rather than anywhere close to the melee.
Sami, looks like you have a critical threat to confirm.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Pistol Crit?: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Damage: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (2, 8, 7) + 6 = 23
Sami takes aim and puts a bullet dead center in the sinspawn's forehead, killing it instantly.
Out of combat. To recap:
This large chamber was obviously on ce a prison, as testified by the twenty cells that line the room's perimeter. A rickety wooden platform overlooks the room, with two flights of stairs descen ding to the prison floor ten feet below. A five-foot-wide wooden walkway runs from the northern edge of the platform to a passageway to the east.
Skeletons lie in most of the cells-prisoners who starved to death ages ago. Although the walkway above the room looks rickety, it's actually quite stable.
A quick look around reveals that these creatures had a small treasure cache containing:
3 potions of cure light wounds
2 potions of lesser restoration
potion of spider climb
50 gp
2 ranseurs
Sami Rackham |
Wow did I type that pistol shot wrong. Sorry about that..
"Looks like some useful items being guarded by that thing. You melee folks might want those potions."
Sami will take the potion of spider climb if no one else does, the image of climbing a wall and shooting from above is oddly appealing to her.
Vulpidin Iullus |
"I can heal myself well enough," Vulpidin states. "There only seems to be one way deeper into this place... but it worries me this has been here unnoticed for so long, given what's in here."
Tiyuvi |
Tiyuvi looks at the potions and other things then decides he doesn't need any of that yet. "Vulpidin, you seem to be correct. This seems to be the only way to go further. We entered through some tunnels that someone dug. My guess is that if we keep going along these passageways we'll find an actual entrance to this area."
GM Fuzzfoot |
This room contains several ancient relics of what appear to be torture implements, although their function and style seem strange and archaic. In one corner sits a spherical cage with spikes protruding inward from its iron bars. In an other stands what appears to be a star-shaped wooden frame, its surface studded with hooks. And in the center of the room is a long table covered with leather straps and a number of cranks that seem designed to rotate and swivel.
Checking the door south, you find another room, perhaps a study. The crumbling remnants of several chairs and a long table clutter the floor of this room. To the south stand three stone doors, each bearing a strange symbol that resembles a seven-pointed star.
A search of the rubble uncovers the fragments of countless books and scrolls with bits of spiky writing in a strange language all over them. They are pretty useless now.
While looking at the torn-up pages reveals a scroll of flaming sphere (CL sth) under a broken chair.
The three solid doors to the south were once prison cells. Within each is a single skeleton of a badly deformed humanoid; one has three brittle arms, another has an enormous misshapen skull, and the third has a rib cage that goes all the way down to its pelvis-a pelvis with stunted leg bones strewn below its strangely flat girth.
Tiyuvi |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Tiyuvi's lip curls in disgust as he looks over the furniture and apparatuses that were obviously used for torture or some other sadistic experimentation. He flips through some of the scrolls and books. "I don't understand any of this stuff. Do you guys?"
Vulpidin Iullus |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 17
"If the statue is from the same time, it is probably Thassilonian," Vulpidin says, "And I wish you would not touch it so casually. Books and scrolls of such age are fragile and possibly irreplaceable."
He takes a look at the pages to confirm his theory.
Thanks to his Scholar of the Ancients trait he can speak and read Thassilonian.
Sami Rackham |
Seeing the relivs Sami cannot help but wonder if there is any religious significance, some of the old gods were knowen to be brutal as are some of the current.
Know Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Anything on the items.
Looking about the room she shudders and frowns when they find the bodies.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
"Hmmm.. this could be useful, a scroll though I am not sure what for." I figure she would not have a context for what kind of scroll it is.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Vulpidin does recognize some of the writing as Thassilonian, but there is too much damage to piece anything together.
You proceed down a long set of stairs.
The ceiling of this strangely cold chamber arches to a vaulted height of twenty feet . The floor contains eleven wooden lids strewn haphazardly over eleven five-foot-wide pits in the ground. From the darkness within these pits echo up strange shuffling sounds and, every so often, a low moan.
Suddenly, from across the room, you see a strangely mutated looking goblin drooling as it charges at you!
Lucien: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Sami: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Tiyuvi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Vulpidin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Creature: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Round 1: (Bold may act)
Tiyuvi
Sami
Vulpidin
Red Goblinoid
Lucien (9 dmg)
Sami Rackham |
Sami agrees to deal with the scroll later before moving on.
At the site of the goblin and the weird pits she moves into the room, back to the wall. Knowing the goblin is farther then she is really effective she readies to shoot when it moves forward.
"Something has gone very wrong down here. These creatures are almost too terrible to think about"
Readied Action
Pistol: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 1 = 14 If goblin things moves within 20ft. fire vs touch.
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
GM Fuzzfoot |
The goblin moves toward Tiyuvi, as Sami manages to put a slug in it, which throws its aim off just enough to save Tiyuvi from getting sliced.
Longsward Attack vs Tiyuvi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Round 1: (Bold may act)
Lucien (9 dmg)
Round 2: (Bold may act)
Tiyuvi
Sami
Vulpidin
Red Goblinoid (5 dmg)
Lucien (9 dmg)
Tiyuvi |
Tiyuvi twists to avoid the goblin's slice and follows immediately with a lunge of his own. The blade seems to miss the goblin but Tiyuvi steps to the side. Maybe the others will be able to advance and provide flanking against the ugly creature.
rapier@goblin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Vulpidin Iullus |
Vulpidin fires his crossbow and methodically reloads it. He doesn't see any reason to waste magic on a single goblin, no matter how horribly altered.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 3 - 4 = 7
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Sami Rackham |
Sami advances a bit more while reloading her pistol with an alchemical cartridge. She levels her pistol as she speaks and fires.
"Filthy monster we will cleanse you as the others."
Pistol: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 1 = 23 vs touch
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
GM Fuzzfoot |
The goblin shrugs at the bullet that passes through his shoulder, and opens his mouth wide. He spews acidic blood a good 20 feet, catching both Lucien and Sami in the nastiness.
Each of you takes 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 acid damage, Ref 14 Save for half.
Round 2: (Bold may act)
Lucien (9 dmg + 5 or 3 damage)
Round 3: (Bold may act)
Tiyuvi
Sami (5 or 3 damage)
Vulpidin
Red Goblinoid (13 dmg)
Lucien (9 dmg)
Vulpidin Iullus |
"Disgusting," Vulpidin mutters as he continues his mechanical barrage of bolts.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 4 = 18
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Crit threat: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 4 = 1
Crit damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Sami Rackham |
Relex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
As the avid spews from the creatures mouth Sami dances to the side missing most of the substance. Gods above this thing is nasty. Her fingers fly as she reloads and moves for a better site line of fire and pulls the trigger.
Pistol: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 1 = 5 MISFIRE
As she pulls the tirgger he gun jams minorly damaging it.
Gun currently has broken condition!
Blue Lucien |
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
"Oww! Curse you, foul creature!" Lucien says, before slashing at the goblin with his blade.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
After his attack, he steps back from the goblin, wary of taking further damage.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sami's gun fails her, but luckily all three of her friends manage to strike and bring down the goblin creature.
It is unconscious and bleeding, but still breathing. Then you start to see the wounds knitting themselves back together.
Sami Rackham |
Sami takes a moment to repair and reload her gun. Using a gunslinger deed.
Tiyuvi |
When he sees the wounds healing, Tiyuvi doesn't pause. He stabs at the downed creature.
coup de grace damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (2) = 8
DC 18 fort save to avoid dying (unless there are other circumstances at play)
GM Fuzzfoot |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
The goblin groans, but isn't quite dead. But another quick stab does the trick.
Combat over.
Sami Rackham |
Gun fixed Sami goes and pokes the creature with her toe.
"So... Goblin abomination now. I can see why the gods have put us here."
She bends partially to see what the creature is carrying but mostly to get a closer look at it.
"Should we drag this to the surface when we go? Let the sheriff see it?"
She moves to look in the pits.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 pits
Tiyuvi |
"Maybe we should take this thing up to the sheriff but I'm not sure what he'd do with it." Tiyuvi turns away from it in disgust. "Let's see what's in these pits."
He carefully approaches one of them and moves the cover. He peaks in.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Vulpidin Iullus |
"I do," Vulpidin replies, walking over to the elf. He murmurs a spell in an odd, breathy tone, then reaches out to touch the worst of the wounds.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
He frowns as the wound doesn't close all the way and does it again.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
GM Fuzzfoot |
Each pit contains a person... well, now a zombie. Some of them appear to be disfigured, all seem hungry but otherwise mindless.
The goblin was wielding a very nice longsword, a silver dagger, and a masterwork hand axe.
Sami Rackham |
"No.. someone could stumble in here. We should kill them, it is the right thing to do."
Sami will holster her pistol and pull the longsword from her back intending to kill the zombies from above, assuming she can reach them without putting herself in danger.
GM Fuzzfoot |
It may take a few tries, but if you want to destroy them from above, you can figure out a way to do so without risk of injury.
