Quest for Perfection Part I: The Edge of Heaven (Inactive)

Game Master Warped

In the distant land of Tian Xia, the Pathfinder Society's Lantern Lodge sends a team of agents high into the mountains of the Wall of Heaven to an abandoned Iroran monastery in search of a powerful relic to assist them in ensure victory in the upcoming Ruby Phoenix Tournament. Though the monastery has long laid unused by the faithful of the Master of Masters, it is not completely devoid of danger, and the PCs soon discover that merely retrieving the ancient artifact is but the beginning of a much larger quest.

I'm going to assume that, since something DID jump out, Hyeon-ae didn't dismount from Jin.

"Shang Xu," Hyeon-ae whispers, her eyes wide with shock as she recalls the descriptions of the beast Xue Ho and Hai Xuan had given her. She shakes her head and nudges Jin into action, galloping around the outside of the bell structure and sinking an arrow into its furry shoulder.

Attack (fatigued): 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

EDIT: Just realised that because Hyeon-ae doesn't have a composite longbow, she can't use her longbow while mounted. So she will dismount as a...

Is Gorn petrified of the creature, and was he able to draw his shield? Just curious as that will define what he does next.

Noorzad: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Gorn is paralyzed in fear for 1 round, so no, he hasn't drawn his shield, yet.

Noorzad stands quietly, not moving, afraid of drawing the wrath of this fearsome creature. Shivering in the cold, thin air, his only wish is that it doesn't notice him.

Berosius steps up and stabs his spear at the creature, but misses and hits the scaffolding surrounding the bell, instead. At the same time, Hyeon-ae dismounts from Jin and fires her longbow at the creature, scoring a hit between its shoulder blades, dropping the beast before it can do more damage.

After a few seconds, everyone shakes off the effects that the creature had on them.

Hyeon-ae allows herself to breathe a sigh of relief as her arrow ends Shang Xu before his reign of terror could harm her companions too badly. There's a corpse, and Gorn darn well intends to behead the thing!

Gorn advances on the body, looking both ways, breathing heavily in the thin air. He raises his axe high and chops the creatures head off after a few swings. The thin air apparently getting to him moreso than he wants to let on.

Looking to his companions, he growls, not at the party, but seemingly at himself.

"Critter was magic of some sort. Held me in check an', by the look of things, more 'n one of us. Ah am not taking chances wit this creature coming back."

He cleans his axe blade and turns to look towards the monastery, then back to the group.

"Do we knock?

And he starts for the door, taking the north stairs, moving up with his shield raised and his axe drawn.

Folding the pelt neatly and placing it in her bag, for she knows again of many who buy such a pelt (and the chronicle sheets will reflect that!), Dagat moves with the group just as Gorn kicks the door down, shouting their intentions to enter to the entire monastery.

The long room before you is furnished only with eleven ruined mattresses and a few aged and cracked pots. A section of the ceiling has collapsed in the northwestern corner of the room, causing the wind to howl eerily as it blows over the building. A series of images has been carved into the still-standing section of the room's walls, each image incating a humanoid in a series of different positions and stances.

A stairway leads down from the room just north of the entrance, but a collapsed section of ceiling has completely blocked it, as well as a 10-by-10-foot area, shrouding that corner in darkness and preventing anyone from exploring there any further.

DC 20 Knowledge (religion):
The carvings depict a series of exercises and forms that one could follow as part of an Iroran training regimen.

At the end of the room, breathing heavily, is another furry creature, but this one seems much angrier than the one outside was, as it huffs in the cool thin air, and glares your way.

The party's up! The furry man will go after everyone's posted their actions, or on Sunday, whichever comes first. Also, Noorzad may make another knowledge check on the furry man since he didn't get a chance to last fight, and hasn't made one since then.

DC 13 Knowledge (nature):
This is a yeti, mysterious and rarely seen, a towering denizen of the loneliest and tallest mountain peaks. Those who dwell upon the lower reaches of such storied slopes whisper tales of "abominable snowmen" who come down from the heights to raid, taking livestock or even humans as prey and leaving behind only monstrous barefoot tracks in the bloodstained snow. Although yeti stories are accurate in their portrayals of fierce, stealthy, and immensely strong creatures, they are not when it comes to ascribing the yeti's temperament and source. They dwell in small tribes atop their distant mountains, where they are sheltered from contact with most other races. Those with violent or cruel natures are usually forced out of tribes to live lonely lives as exiles, and without the support of a tribe such yeti are often driven to raiding lowlander settlements, thus perpetuating the myth of the yeti as a demon made flesh. The source of such cruel madness can often be traced to a singular source-proximity to strange, eldritch dimensions. The yetis' mountain lairs rise high in places where the boundaries between this world and others rasp thin. It is unclear if the yeti are invaders from these dimensions or Material Plane natives influenced by otherworldly realms, but it seems certain that whatever their origins, the yeti are no friends to those who dwell beyond, and may even act as guardians against intrusions from such strange worlds into the Material Plane.

Yetis are known to have a vulnerability to fire matched only by their immunity to cold. They are swift climbers and deceptively stealthy. In combat, they have a terrible rending attack that can tear a full grown man in half. Any who look into their eyes notice their frightful gaze, which can paralyze a man in his feet out of fear.

EDIT - Also, just to speed things along, before your turn, you need to make a DC 12 Will save or be paralyzed with fear. He sure is scary looking!

Hyeon-ae, Zephri, and Dagat all stand in fear at the sight of the creature. Their lives pass before their eyes. Was this braid worth their lives? Did Amara Li send them knowingly to their death? So many questions, yet no answers came to their fear riddled minds.

Gorn, on the other hand, shakes off the hypnotic gaze of the creature. The stubborn dwarf angrily walks up to the beast, and, ducking under its short spear, gives it a proper manicure, ordering it to stay down before he gets serious, on the other hand.

Hyeon-ae and Zephri, do either of you need a folio reroll? I can give you my reroll if you don't have a folio/t-shirt/whatever to do it yourself, but not my gm star bonus (though it looks like Hyeon-ae has the same star bonus I do, anyways). I'm hating that you guys keep failing these saves.

Gorn and Berosius continue their assault on the furry man to no avail, as he knocks their weapons aside with his short spear with the ease of a trained warrior. He does not notice Dagat's arrow, however, and she is able to plant it in his side.

Its all good, I'm usually pretty lucky, though I seem to be in a bad spell. It just makes it all the more awesome when you get lucky :) I'll go ahead and roll for next round if you do not mind, on the basis that it might be luckier!

Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

I don't mind at all. Gorn's been doing it the entire scenario until recently! And congrats! You'll be able to act next round!

Noorzad's melody takes on an angry edge as he looses another arrow!

And if this doesn't strike true I guess he'll be closing next round...

I was an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow to the yeti: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
arrow damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Does Noorzad have precise shot? I'm guessing not, since he isn't using point-blank shot. I still don't have access to his character sheet. The link you gave in the discussion thread doesn't work. You might need to turn on sharing for the document.

Noorzad's arrow flies wide, missing the mark. Unless he meant to hit that sleeping pad, then it was a bull's eye!

Spittle flying from his mouth, the furry man redirects his rage against the only one to do any significant damage to him, turning to Dagat and moving the short distance to her! He jabs his short spear at her stomach and then swings a quick roundhouse claw.

Short Spear Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Short Spear Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

The spear pierces her leg, bringing sharp pain. She nearly loses her balance and almost falls to one knee, but is able to maintain her footing. The momentary loss of balance, however, saves her life as the furry man's claw makes an arc above her head when she drops to half a knee.

Zephri rushes into the room finally overcoming his terror and levelling Bethany at their furry foe, "You aren't even worth my while you furry son of a b+$+%!"

Bethany barks and Zephri's aim is far from perfect, but with blessing, inspiration, and a massive foe it does not need to be and his bullets bites home!

"Better late than never," he says apologetically to Gorn.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 13 Damage: 1d12 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 = 9
