Shakilah yelps again as a crackling arc of lightning momentarily flickers between Bahram's outstretched hand and her body... but she positively howls when Lavender's bolt of lightning strikes - her fur standing on end as the ray leaves a smoking scorched patch in the side of her lionine lower body...
Stepping up to the lamia, Rashid takes a swing with his trusty scimitar, opening a deep, bloody, slash across Shakilah's left shoulder. Wincing, she snarls at the priest...
... Only for Yousef to finally get in an accurate swing with Tempest! Carving a vicious, frost-rimed, wound across the back of the lamia's human torso, Yousef's blow sends Shakilah collapsing to the ground...
... Where lion-Keldar (heroically!) rips out her throat!
A stillness falls over the temple's entrance chamber as Shakilah's cooling blood pools on the sand-dusted stone floor around her. A few seconds later and the glittering golden dust caking the lamia's corpse, lion-Keldar, and the chamber itself flakes away into nothingness...

Rashid al-Gahiji |

Rashid breathes a sigh of relief when the Lamia finally falls. He looks at her corpse, before ruefully commenting,
"You really should have listened to us. This need not have been necessary..."
He then pulls out a wand, and starts healing Keldar.

Ah, guys I have a problem. I seem to be unable to understand how to cast some of my spells. Mainly the more powerful ones i just learned. I tried to restore the damage with a spell but It didnt work.

Yousef olan Ahmad |

Yousef kicks the corpse of the lamia. "B++~@." he swears solemnly. The thens decapitates her with Tempest and shrugs his shoulders. "You never know."
I though you got to keep the spells you memorized if you took ability damage, but for the next day, had to fill the higher spell slots with lower level spells.

"You really should have listened to us. This need not have been necessary..."
LOL! I'm pretty sure the lamia was happily still talking when you guys mugged her... ;)
A thorough inspection of the entrance chamber reveals little more of interest - time and driving sands have worn away any intelligible inscriptions on the walls or pillars, and it appears that Shakilah wasn't lairing in the chamber as there's no signs of anyone (or anything) having spent time living in there recently.
Peering through the five-foot wide passage into the next chamber of the temple (to the north) reveals it leads into a forest of narrow pillars (each half the diameter or less of the six pillars in the entrance chamber): the roofless, colonnaded hall of a temple interior. The breeze from the room carries with it a pungent stench of decay. Two rectangluar depressions (each maybe ten feet wide and five feet across) run west to east across the pillared hall's rubble-strewn floor (with a five foot gap between them stright through the middle of the hall, and on a straight north-south line with the passage you're peering through), perhaps once filled with water, but now choked with thorny desert weeds. Opposite the passage into the pillared hall is another doorway, leading to a third chamber, and another beyond that leading into a forth - all in line with the entrance to the temple.

Rashid al-Gahiji |

Does the dagger appear to be well made, or is it merely functional?
Stepping into the colonnaded main chamber, Rashid gives an appreciative whistle, and then focuses on scanning it...

when she touched me,I felt like a part of me was being stolen. Ahhh! I cant explain it to you, and thats the problam. Where before, i think i could reason it out with some old fashion common sence, now I cant seem to do so. Take for instance the fight. I was starting to loose awarness of tactics and just wanted to leap upon her and tear out her throat. And the scary part is, I had to stuggle some, just to change back and tell ya'll that I anit as usefull with healing. If she had got the chance to do that some more I may not have ever wanted to change back

Bahram Zarishu |

"You warned us that she could drain your will, that must be it. Let's hope it passes or that father Zastoran can help?" Bahram adds, not to hopefully as Rashid has already shown more divine power than father Zastoran and would out-rank him in the church of Nethis as a result.
"Try to keep your wits about you my friend." he says as he follows suit and heads into the teple with his eyes glowin in search of magical emanances.

"Sorry, The dagger looked dangerous. If I know her touch was what drained your powers, I would not have disarmed her of the dagger. Lets make quick work of this place and get back to town and get it healed."
I flinched when you did that, cause i knew the dagger was safer. But Keldar didnt. I'm fine with it. setbacks are part of the game

Lavender Leaf |

yeah, I know wisdom drain was mentioned, but I did not expect that it would be drained from simple physical attack. I should have expected it, but I never fought a Lamia before and I never seen a creature that dealt out wisdom drain either. As soon as she started draining wisdom, I kicked myself!

Yousef olan Ahmad |

"Sorry, The dagger looked dangerous. If I know her touch was what drained your powers, I would not have disarmed her of the dagger. Lets make quick work of this place and get back to town and get it healed."
"Don't beat yourself up over it, Sis. I got Feliped's friends killed. At least Keldar is alive. We can't say that much about Feliped and his crew. Gods damnit."

Lavender Leaf |

"Bahram's right. We were in a desperate situation, and you acted when you needed to for yourself and us to survive. Although he may not have said it, I could tell that Felliped forgave you in his final days. Don't dwell on the past, Felliped wouldn't have wanted that."

![]() |

Does the dagger appear to be well made, or is it merely functional?
Shakilah's dagger doesn't appear to be particularly well made and, in fact, barely seems like a practical design for a weapon - the jagged barbs and curves look more intimidating than any real use in a fight. It's possible the weapon had some ritual significance, but not related to any organised religion any of you have ever heard of...

Lavender Leaf |

"Neat. This all would have been impressive if it was still in pristine condition. Bahram, you think you could get the fountains to work again? Shall we make our way into the next room, doesn't seem to be much here."

jjaamm/Keldar |

hp-51, ac-14 I'll lead, since cant cast much now, With a stern look to the others. It is just practicle, not whinning. I can still spot traps pretty good and i have been reduced to a little more than a basic fighter. And, not boasting, but I look to be the toughest here for taking a hit. So, now that that is settaled

Rashid al-Gahiji |

What have we here?
Rashid moves over to the north-eastern corner of the chamber, where he tries to lift one of the worn flagstones.
"I think that I may have found something..."

Bahram Zarishu |

"I'm sure it must have been quite the sight." Bahram agrees as heds over to the fountain. "Personally I have no affinity for water magic, but maybee father Zastoran can help?" he says hopefully.
Looking up as Rashid heads to a particular block in the floor Baram's quriosity is piqued and he hads over to see what the fuss is about.

While Yousef and Lavender linger in the doorway, Keldar heads towards the next doorway, passing between the two pools, along the only path through the chamber which isn't filled with pillars... only to divert to join Rashid and Bahram as the dwarven cleric heads across towards the pillar-filled chamber's north-eastern corner and starts to lever up a flagstone...
... At which point four immense tan-coloured spiders, each fully the size of a grown man, leap from high on the walls to attack!
And in an amazing series of low rolls by the DM, only one hits... and they counted as charging too... ho hum...
Two of the spiders land in front of Yousef and Lavender, cutting off their passage into the room, whilst one leaps across to a pillar between Keldar and Rashid as the former dwarf moves to join the latter - the spider perches on the side of the narrow pillar, venom dripping from its fangs as it peers at the dwarven druid with its eight glittering black eyes...
The final spider, however, lands on Bahram's back, sinking its fangs into the sorcerer's shoulder for a good few seconds (during which the wound starts to feel as though it's on fire...) before skittering back a pace or two... Bahram takes 6 Hit Points of damage, and needs a DC 14 Fortitude save to avoid taking 1d2 Strength damage...
Okay - that was them wasting their surprise round almost completely (hey, they're vermin - what can a poor DM expect? ;) )... Now it's time for initiative and declared actions!

I don't know if Bless is still running, but the Heroism on Keldar, and the Magic Circle Against Evil on Yousef, should continue to run for quite a while - they both have a duration of 50 minutes, after all...

![]() |

Wow - with 117 for Initiative I guess Yousef is taking his action some time back before the temple was a ruin... ;)
Taking a step back (I'll assume, to avoid provoking an AoO) Lavender unleashed a wide spray of lightning which crackles and dances over the two menacing giant spiders! A smell of burning hair fills the area as the tough bristles covering the arachnids' bodies begin to smoke, and both let slip high-pitched whines as they skitter back a little in the face of the elemental onslaught...
Backing away from his eight-legged assailant, Bahram mutters a quick spell and is gone... You know, I have a strange urge for him to see ring-wraiths now... but I'll resist! ;)
Drawing his (scimitar I guess?) Keldar takes a swing at the spider between himself and Rashid, but the thing skitters round the pillar it's clinging to, and Keldar's blow wounds nothing but ancient stone...
Pulling Tempest free, Yousef steps protectively in front of Lavender to swing at one of the two spiders... but the thing proves too quick for him as it skitters back and to the side, avoiding his blows...
The two spiders cornering Lavender and Yousef in the pillared room's entrance take turns trying to sink their fangs into Yousef, but some skilled (two-legged) footwork of his own manages to avoid the strikes...
Leaping from its pillar-perch to flagstones in front of Keldar, the spider he's facing sinks its fangs into his thigh... Keldar takes 4 Hit Points of damage, and needs a DC 14 Fortitude (posion) save to avoid taking 1d2 Strength damage...
Springing forward, the spider which struck Bahram appears to bite into... thin air? Thin air which bleeds... Bahram takes 2 Hit Points of damage, and needs a DC 14 Fortitude (poison) save to avoid taking 1d2 Strength damage...
Closing on the spider which just bit Keldar, Rashid takes a swing... but the darned arachnid manages to duck the blow...
As a rule of thumb you can assume that any effects lasting 'rounds' or 'minutes' will have faded by the time the group finish thoroughly searching a room - so yes, bless will have ended by now.
Oh, and keep those AC totals and stuff coming guys - they really help!
Next round please...

"Yousef, Duck!"
Lavender blasts a chunk out of the floor right between Yousef's legs...
Bahram can be heard chanting something arcane...
Aaahhh, ya stinking vermine, is that all you got Oh, I fill a little weaker. Guess it was a better bite than thought
Despite the venom racing through his body, Keldar manages to strike a precise blow, rupturing a couple of the spider's eyes as he opens a deep slash across the thing's head...
"Duck!"
Narrowly avoiding having his voice raised a few octaves by Lavender's wild blasting, Yousef springs forwards, somersaulting over one of the spiders, ripping Tempest through the thing, head to thorax, as he goes - the wound is edged with frost from the enchanted blade and, as Yousef lands on the spider's far side, the freezing seems to spread from the deep cut, web-like cracks spreading across the spider's body as it does so... a few moments later and the whole spider splits in twain down the middle, icy fragments bursting as it noisily cracks apart, and frozen legs splintering as the two halves crash to the flagstones...
The second spider by the entrance appears to nervously skitter back a little as it witnesses the frigid fate of its companion... but only for a moment - it lunges towards Yousef once more, and once more fails to connect...
Squealing at the grivious wound inflicted by Keldar, the spider facing him still attacks - it's fangs ripping across the dwarf's forearm this time... Keldar takes 1 Hit Point of damage, but manages to fight off the venom (taking no more Strength damage... for now...)...
The spider which initially attacked Bahram springs forwards again... but this time its fangs appear to deflect off thin air...
Cutting at the spider wounded by Keldar, Rashid finds his own blade striking true as well... although the spider refuses to die, even with the new wound across its flank...
Bahram needs a DC 14 Fortitude (posion) save to avoid taking another 1d2 Strength damage this round from the venom still in his system...
