Kjell nods to the dwarf and steps forward hefting his Great Axe in both hands before him. He bends over briefly at Kylma's side to inspect the tracks to see if he can determine what animal made them.

Seeing the others lining up behind or beside her, as the dwarf suggested, she turns and gives him a nod.

"I guess we're ready, then." She holds the torch up and goes slowly into the room, her eyes darting from floor to ceiling, looking for any signs of danger.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14


You enter through the northwestern opening and see that the room is octagon shaped and loaded with cobwebs from floor to ceiling. The smell of rot hits you and makes you kind of sick to your stomach, having just been out in the fresh cool air. On the floor you notice the where the smell is coming from. Several dog carcasses litter the floor half eaten. Among the animal carcasses are piles of of humanoid remains, looking as if they've been here for a very long time.
There is another opening in the south west corner and a creature with as many eyes as your group has all together, with the torch's firelight glimmering in each of its many eyes you feel that it still may be hungry.

The Spider shoots a web at Kjell, but swiftly using his axe, he manages to twirl most of it harmlessly onto it.

The spider is about 20-feet away in the northwest archway.

Kjell charges the spider with his Greataxe held high!

Kjell attacks the spider with ferocious strength severing two of its right side, most front legs at the femurs and a long gash which is spewing greenish fluid. Although the spider is staggering and shrieking in pain, it does not retreat.

Kjell/Kylma:
You both notice a very small mass of lively creatures skittering toward you.

Grey calls out in that odd tongue of his & summons forth a Glowing beetle about the size of a small dog behind the immense arachnid. SMI SLA Celestial Fire Beetle, one minute duration, The Giant Spider is now flanked.

The oddly glowing dog-sized insect leaps forward to bite at the spider's abdomen. bite attack: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 2 = 18 flanking, for bite damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage


The glowing beetle bites through the spider's tough skin leaving puncture wounds.

Kilain moves forward past Dorven and up behind Kjell, he calls upon his mastery over earth and points his hand at the spider. A dart of black acid shoots from his palm toward the creature. ranged touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 cast acid bolt 5 uses left


Your acid attack hits its mark and melts a few of its eyes from its head. The spider continues to shriek in pain.

Still stealthed in the Shadows Dorvren moves and strikes the spider with his mace.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 vs FF if he did not see me for 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (3) = 7 if it saw me remove that last 1d6

After his strike Drovren calls

Looks like they have the big bug well in hand, Kylma thinks to herself. That leaves the little ones. Crap.

She sweeps the torch low against the oncoming mass of little biters, falling back to stay out of their reach.

1d20 ⇒ 20 for one point of fire damage OR...
1d20 ⇒ 11 two, if that confirms.


Even in its agonizing pain the spider spots Dorvren and he is unable to fully execute his full attack, but still manages to deliver a nasty blow to the side of its head.

The spider swarm skitters up and Kylma improvises with the torch she is carrying. She burns several of the little spiders, but they keep on moving toward her.


After taking a massive beating the spider makes one last attack knowing it will probably be her last. It reaches out and bites Kjell with her large sharp fangs.

Kjell:
You take 7 points of damage. Its poison has no effect

The swarm attempts to crawl up to Kylma for an attack but they seem to be cautious about the flaming torch she is swaying in their direction.

Sure, Kjell will five foot away from the swarm on Kylma, but still threatening the spider.

@GM NEFG: Sorry, I forgot to take into the account my flanking with the dog. That should have been a 15 to hit.

With a fifteen you do hit the creature and split its head wide open. It drops to the ground oozing vile liquids.

Please try to remember all your bonuses during combat. It will help keep the game running smoothly and will probably save your characters' lives. By the way Kjell the creature you are flanking with is a beetle the size of a dog. :)

Grey sends a message to his summoned fire beetle and it skitters across the ground, then attempts to attack the spider swarm but fails in the attempt. Grey frowns at the attempt.

seeing the spider dealt with Kilain turns his focus to swarm of smaller spiders advancing and pulling the vial of Alchemists Fire out of his belt pouch he throws it over Kjell's head at the swarm.

Kjell, wounded and seeing that he will have no effect on the swarm, takes a retreating 5 foot step and assumes a fully defensive posture.


Kilain's Alchemist fire is thrown short and crashes to the ground setting the floor afire. The swarm moves away safely.

Dorvren's Acid flask hits the target dead on, burning the swarm with its green liquid. You hear the high pitch sound of spiders screaming in agony, but their are more still alive.

Kylma swipes at the swarm again with her bright flaming torch but only holds them back from attacking her.

The swarm turns its attention to the fire beetle and engulfs it with its numbers. Although it still radiates a bit of light, it lays lifelessly on the ground.

Grey:

Grey continues to direct the glowing beetle to bite at one of the minuscule arachnids still posing a threat.

Beetle attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21, wow, confirm crit.: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10, not sure if that confirmed or not. bite damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1, crit. damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3, if the crit confirmed. Also, is this the third round the beetle has been active? Since I am only first level, the summoned creatures will only last 10 rounds at most.

Seeing the Beetle laid low by the swarm, Grey calls forth a gleaming rodent. SMI SLA: Celestial Dire Rat, 1/10 rnds. AC 14, HP 5/5. Dire Rat attacks the spider swarm... Bite attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18, Bite damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3


The dire rat moves in a injest a mouth full of the tiny arachnids and chews on them viciously.

Kilain speaks a prayer to Torag and Kjell's wound heals completely leaving only a minor scar. (Max roll of 9)

In the heat of battle, Dorvren's acid flask slips from his hand and drops at his feet burning him for 1 point of damage.

OOC:
I am ok with house rules...but as written it should miss the swarm and splash it for 1 pt of damage. If it does fall at my feet I would only take splash damage of 1. If you want to play it that way that is alright, but I want to make sure before I take 50% damage, which seems harsh for a roll of a 4. Not an argument or even a complain just a clarification

Kylma swipes at the swarm of spiders again, still falling back.1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 a hit ... 1 point of damage... well, it's something.


Kylma's torch kills several of the tiny spiders causing the swarm to flee in many directions. You don't feel that will have to deal with them any time soon.

Kilain put his warhammer away and pulled his crossbow, loading it while the group waited to be sure the swarm was dispersed.

"You can relax," Kylma says, winking at Kjell. "All the little spiders are gone. Are we unharmed?"

With the torch, she sets about clearing the room of webs and any further spiders, while keeping an eye peeled for treasure.
