[PFS] The Quest for Perfection (Inactive)

18 Defense Points earned

Personal DP left to spend:
Belinda: 9 DP | Mia: 0 DP | Negi: 0 DP | Rolan: 7 DP | Theron: 9 DP

How to use Defense Points:
Each of you has gained a pool of points equal to 1/2 the total Defense Points earned during preparations. At any time, you may choose to spend a number of these points as an immediate action. They can be added to any single attack or damage roll, ability or skill check, saving throw, or can be used to grant you a dodge bonus to your AC. Points used only apply to a single roll, and do not otherwise last until your next action. More than 1 point may be spent on a roll, with a maximum equal to your level. You must decide to use your Defense Points in this way when you announce your action and before you make the roll the bonus will apply to. Once spent, points from this pool cannot be replenished.

Bertie bites the remaining tengu in his throat, gives him a good shake, and drops him on the ground.

Negi rejoins the others at the barricade.

Combat's over! (But not for long.)

From your position you can see the other barricades are in worse shape than the one you held, and some of the villagers lie dead at their posts, but all the tengus that attacked have been likewise repelled.

In the aftermath of the battle, a hush pervades the village; a few cheers erupt but are quickly muffled by those wise enough to know the fighting is not yet done. For the most part, the farmers prepare themselves for further combat; their fallen comrades are respectfully moved away from battleground, crossbows are reloaded, and what repairs can be made to the barricades are attempted. This prudence is soon proved correct; from the eastern edge of the village, a low growling sound grows in volume. Suddenly, a loud crash comes from the eastern barricade and panicked villagers come running from that direction.

"A demon! The crows have brought a demon down upon us!" one of the farmers screams, throwing his spear down as he runs.

You hurry over to the eastern barricade and see a creature with the body of a bear and the head of an owl is attacking it.

Combat's over!

In the aftermath of the onslaught, the village square stands nearly deserted, most of the villagers’ resolve having broken sometime during the siege. Many have retreated to their homes, though from the peripheries of the village still come the sounds of battle, villagers here and there fighting off the few scattered bandits that made it through the barricades. The air is hazy with smoke and it is hard to tell where to go to next in order to aid the farmers. After a while the last bandits have been defeated. All is quiet, for now, and evening falls.

You all get a night's rest now! You heal 1HP per level during the night, and have enough time to prepare new spells in the morning. If you decide to set a watch during the evening, nothing happens.

The next morning you all wake rested. Halfway during the morning you hear a bloodthirtsy screech coming from the north, which is enough to signify the most dangerous threat yet. Kwankhonu, the leader of the tengus, rides toward the village atop an armored axe beak. Perched on her back, clad in steel, his feathers dyed crimson where they show through his armor, Kwankhonu strikes an imposing figure. As soon as he sees you, he snarls and surges toward you.

Kwankhonu's followed by three tengus on horseback. While you get into position behind the broken northern barricade, the villagers come to your aid. They send a volley of crossbow bolts at the riders on horseback and charge them with spears, taking all three of them out. However, they can't land a single hit on Kwankhonu. The fate on Nesting Swallow's in your hands.

she's attempting to take him in alive so the villagers get to deal with him.

@Rolan: You could've gotten your shield up before combat, that's fine. However, you cannot charge on this turn. Mia's in the way. I made you double move instead, that okay?

Rolan double moves up to Kwankhonu.

Theron shoots an arrow into the sky while his roc lets out some kind of funny and totally not intimidating screech.

Bertie goes into action on Belinda's command, but misses Kwankhonu.

Mia sends a flurry of punches at Kwankhonu. the first punch misses, but the second knocks him off his mount. Kwankhonu hits the ground and is unconscious.

However, Kwankhonu's mount doesn't look like it's about to run away like the horses did.

Round 2:
Theron (Roc 1/15HP with Animal Aspect to Con)
Mia (Snapping Turtle Style) 15/25HP
Belinda
Negi
Kwankhonu -13HP & 22NL
Axe Beak
Rolan

You all forgot your Defense Points up till now. You may still want to use them in this last fight.
(See the top of the thread for an explanation about them.)

Sounds good.

Moving on, because it's been 2 days since Negi was up. If he wants, he may take his round 2 actions retroactively when he posts his actions for round 3. 'Cause then combat can progress pretty much like it normally would've.

Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

The axe beak bites Mia in her arm, wounding her badly.

Sorry, the internet went down for a couple of days, and I'm been too busy to much of anything online afterwards.

Theron intimidates the axe beak from a distance.

Redirecting Rolan's attack, 'cause the tengu's already down.[/ooc]
Rolan attacks the axe beak, but misses it.

Bertie goes in for his dinner, biting the axe beak. Meanwhile Belinda moves up to Mia and heals her a bit.

I'll GMPC Negi and Mia, due to their absence in combination with the pressing time limit for the Gameday.

Negi, retroactive Round 2. Spending 4 Defense Point on attack roll.
Lance: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 4 = 22 Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 3 = 8

Negi stabs the axe beak with his lance.

Negi, Round 3. Spending 5 Defense Point on attack roll.
Lance: 1d20 + 7 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 5 = 16 Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 3 = 7

Negi tries to stab the axe beak again, but barely misses it.

Mia, Round 3. Spending 4 Defense Point on 1st attack roll and 5 Defense Point on 2nd attack roll.
FoB1, NL: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 4 = 27 Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
FoB2, NL: 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 5 = 20 Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Mia punches the axe beak against its head, then kicks it against the chest. The animal passes out and drops to the ground.

Combat's over!

Conclusion

The battle ends once Kwankhonu is defeated and his minions are deceased or have fled. Any remaining tengus retreat or throw themselves on the villagers' mercy. Victory does not come free, of course; of the 50 men and women that aided in the fight, 21 perished. These honored fallen are buried in the hills overlooking the home they gave their lives for; in spite of this, Nesting Swallow celebrates its victory. For the first time in years, the village looks forward to living free of banditry.

Je Tsun honors her bargain with you, isolating herself in her home with the Braid of a Hundred Masters for a day and a night. When she emerges with a smile, the braid is restored to its ancient potency. Even now, activated, the use of the relic is difficult to discern, but Pathfinders in the Lantern Lodge in Goka are undoubtedly eager to begin their work examining the powerful item.

Primary success condition completed:
You defeat Kwankhonu, save Nesting Swallow, and ensure than Je Tsun reactivates the Braid of a Hundred Masters.

Secondary success condition completed:
You earn at least 18 Defense Points over the course of Act 2. (You got exactly 18, hurray!)

Scarab Sages

Talk about a tough secondary condition. I thought we maxed out the defence points - just. What did we miss out on?

I'm not sure where you've missed something. You could've earned an extra 1 Defense Point for every 5 points by which you beat the Craft (traps) DC on the barricade, but those points are really just extra points.
