Garmit steps forward and calls into play his friendly false flanking likeness, courtesy of Xen's earlier kiss. He then lays into the vampiric spawn with both blade and beak.

Minor point, but Xen has to activate the false flanker. No problem as she see you fine and she is always looking for the chance to do so.

The Midnight Mirror

Does that false flanker work just once, or until you change your implanted tricks?
--------------------

Garmit steps up and smashes the vampire spawn into a pulp. Your first hit took it to one hp ... the rest was just overkill ;-)

Herrick is up, but I'm not going to have a Botted character charge ahead of the group toward the last remaining enemy, so he's going to delay for the moment.

Garmit is pretty self-defending, so the mohrg doesn't have much to do. It is delaying as well.

It only works once (for one entire round, not one attack) per implant. As a standard action I can implant the trick again. I get like 8 tricks a day so there are plenty but I have to touch to implant it.

Excellent map work, GM! The escaping villagers are a nice touch. But it appears to me that we've lost all our opponents except Red and Play Misty For Me. Did I miss something?

The Midnight Mirror

@Xichi: The rest have been defeated, and lacking a CON score, once dead they stay dead, so I removed them from the map. And thanks, I Googled "panicking villagers" and found that graphic. ;-)

Not about to leave Xen to face the abomination alone, Kai races forward, powered by the hastening magic. Unfortunately, it is not quite enough for him to reach the floating mist, so he gulps down an extract, and suddenly doubles in size.

Swift action studied target on vampire. Drink extract of enlarge person, so now it is threatened by Kai. If it moves, unless it's a 5-foot step, Kai can make AoO.

AoO:

Princess Xen commands the mohrg to lay down and wait as she flies on. Xen can try to command this vampire 6 more times assuming she can keep it in range. She is flying at 60'. I am hoping it is slower than that. If this is the case, odds are that she will be able to charm the vampire if it simply stays in gas form and tries to escape. f course odds do not always work out - that is why we roll dice. :) Should she succeed that other thing will likely become free though.

The Midnight Mirror

Herrick fires off a series of arrows at the misty vampire. They all reach their target, and it is clearly badly hurt by them. They don't get past the vampire's DR/Silver, but that was a lot of damage nonetheless.!

Chain of Perdition says that it "suffers no penalty or miss chance due to darkness, invisibility, or other forms of concealment", so while it may be ineffective, it still continues to attack. That should give us a pretty good indication where Mr. Misty is, at least for another 5 rounds.

I'm going for Entangle, but my main question is whether I need to burn a Move action to have it follow Mr. Silent-But-Deadly (as the RAW suggest) or whether it follows him until I say otherwise (as the RAI suggest).

Edit: it occurs to me that for this round it may be a moot point, since the chain has 10 ft reach, so if Mr. Play-Misty-For-Me only moved 5 ft from his original location then he's still within range. Still gonna wait a few hours for GM to weigh in before confusing the issue further.

The Midnight Mirror

When it first went misty, it moved 10 feet away as its move action. This round it moved another 5 feet away, so it was out of range of the chain's current location. You'll need a move action to relocate it, after which it immediately attacks using the roll you just made. You still have a standard action left if you want to move the chain, or you can leave the chain where it was and take all of your actions.

@GM, any chance I can convince you that Whirlwind can do something nasty to Mr. Gaseous-Form? RAW say he's got to be smaller than me, which would be Tiny or smaller, but hey -- he's literally made of air right now!

Pretty sure its speed is currently 10. Xen should have no trouble being close enough to it each round to channel with a fly speed of 60. 5 more tries. :)

The Midnight Mirror

Xichikitte moves his chains closer to where Herrick is pointing, and is gratified to see the chains wrap around an invisible foe! He then changes himself into a small air elemental in preparation for chasing the mist down.

Rhuul calls out to the panicking villagers. The sight of seven dwarfs calling out as one voice inspires them, and they begin moving to their supply buildings to grab buckets.

Kai and Garmit are still up! The Chains reveal the square the vampire is in, so attacks can be made with the usual 50% miss chance.

The Midnight Mirror

Teamwork wins the day! With Herrick to point the area and Xichikitte's chains pinning it down, Kai is able to quickly jab into the invisible mist, somehow managing to bring the vampire down. Yeah, it only had 7 hp left after its last fast healing round ...

You then turn your attention to the burning buildings. The townsfolks bring out the buckets and start the chain. With your help, they are able to get the fire under control with fairly minimal damage to the upper parts of the two buildings.

With the fire out, some of the villagers notice the mohrg lying on the ground, making unpleasant noises. Magistrate Adagre comes up to you and quietly asks, "So ... what is up with that one? Are you going to finish it off ... ?

See what happens when you do not listen to me. Xen retorts to the dying vampire. Is it dead dead or will it go to its coffin to reform, or do we know?

Why Magistrate, this mohrg is my friend. I could never let your hurt it. the princess purrs. Besides it likely knows much about where the missing townsfolk have been taken, who took them, and why. And I am sure it wants to help us return them. Why I bet it will even come with us get them back. And until we depart he will help guard the town, from a safe distance to any townsfolk of course. Xen would have had it help with the fire but I bet most of the townsfolk who were helping would have fled. :)

Diplomacy on Magistrate: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 20 = 32

Xen sits on the ground beside the mohrg and begins a conversation. She will ask the creature what it knows about the taking of the townsfolk and who it used to work for before our new friendship. Happy to make some diplo rolls if needed but I don't specifically desire to RP the gathering of information unless you do. Where are the townsfolk who were taken? Are they still alive? Who is responsible for taking them and why? Where are they? Strength and number of opposers? Traps? etc.

The Midnight Mirror

You are fairly certain this is a vampire, not a lich, so it should be dead. Once it becomes visible, you can see that Kai's last two hits were pretty brutal.

The magistrate is uneasy, but grateful for your assistance. "Well, as long as you are in control and keep it away from everyone ... though I would be much more relaxed if it were destroyed ..."

- - - - -

The morgh tells you that its true master is a terrible undead who will feast on your eternal souls for the blasphemy of interrupting their harvest. You can tell that it is suffering intensely from the struggle between its master's control and yours. Its master's control is apparently enough to prevent it from revealing much, and mostly what you get are agonized moans. It seems unable to reveal where the townsfolk have been taken beyond pointing at the lake.

At this point several of you have damage you may want to deal with. Beyond that, you can rest for the remainder of the night and continue investigating in the morning, or you can try to investigate now.

"Well, I ain't no priest, but I did hear this very interesting story about a priest of the dawnflower once..."

Rhuul starts off on a highly amusing, if somewhat inappropriate story about the priest and his quest for enlightenment. As it progresses the ground around him starts to physically light up and Rhuul invites the wounded pathfinders (and any burned locals) to "step into the light" as he progresses.

Greather path of glory. 4 of us will be able to heal 55hp, another 4 50, another 4 45, down to the last four only healing 5 etc. Those totals can be reduced and shared among the villagers if there are that many of them left and carrying injuries.

Before the party rests for the night, Herrick crouches down and scans the ground for signs of the mohrg's passing, hoping to locate the path back to the boat so the group can compare the landing spots for a pattern as Kai previously suggested.

While still crouched he steeples his fingers upon his chin, apparently deep in thought. After a few moments he stands and faces the princess.

"Since your friend the mohrg seems to be having such a conflict between you and its master, maybe it wouldn't have a conflict if it succeeded in its harvest... by bringing us back with it as the harvest."
