Faldoc also agrees to help. No one should be a prisoner in any way or form.
Kayluss
|
Aye, I'm ready when you are.
What the GM meant is that We used some minute long buffs when we found the priest expecting a fight but nothing happen for a while so in the time it took help to arrive our buffs ran out. We can re-buff before leaving if we still have uses left.
Adaxis
|
"Ye got me help too. Demons in any realm should be exterminated. Mousie, guard us while we sleep."
Adaxis strokes Mousebanes head while offering him grub worms from a pouch.
Approximately how much time has past? My guess is 15 minutes since the short cleric battle and another 15 minutes since Dunnamast's convulsions. Stoneskin and Air Walk each have 100 minute duration assuming they exist in the dream realm, so I will reduce them to 70 min and 85 minutes, respectively.
| GM Derek W |
Ok, I don't think the transportation to the dream realm will cancel any active spells, but it's not very clear. If you like you can take another round or two for buffs before jumping in. But there is a ritual spell with unspecified duration to get you there, so I'd recommend things that last minutes, not rounds. And Adaxis' estimates are pretty close, so we'll go with that. Your really long spells are still up.
Up to 2 buffs can be cast during this time.
Osprey volunteers to go as well, then explains that he will try to question Brother Dunnamast while you hold the primordial demon at bay.
Xersus speaks:
"Teleporting to the dream realm should not cancel your spells, but it will take some time to complete the ritual."
He arranges everyone so that all are seated around Brother Dunnamast and holding hands to complete a circle. Then he sets up his devices, incense, and assorted components and begins to weave a strange spell.
Moments later, everyone’s flesh turns cold, vision blurs, and all color washes to dull gray. The surroundings fade and soon nothing exists but a dull, twilight void.
You experience the sensation of falling at first, then floating. Slowly, dark shadows solidify and you see yourselves hovering around Dunnamast’s still form. You appear gray and washed out, though sparks of color ripple through them like tiny threads of lighting. Xersus is positioned at Dunnamast’s head, holding him gingerly by the temples, and Osprey is at his feet. Thick, ropey tendrils of color thread through the priest’s translucent form. Xersus begins a slow, peaceful chant. The cleric’s body seems to relax, and the tendrils within him recoil slowly from his body toward the base of his neck. Suddenly, the cleric’s jaw drops and the alien tendrils erupt from his mouth directly into the gnome’s face.
With this sudden and violent attack, Xersus is ejected from the dream realm (he slowly fades and disappears). Osprey touches his necklace and is instantly surrounded by a mysterious shimmering force that renders him invisible.
The creature you see within Dunnamast’s psyche is a formless primordial demon identifiable only as a cloudy nothingness (huge size) from which protrude four smoky tendrils tipped with sharp, bone-like protrusions.
Combat takes place entirely in Brother Dunnamast’s dream realm, a three-dimensional sphere with a 100-foot diameter. The PCs begin at the center of the sphere surrounding the fallen cleric, while the primordial demon begins combat 30 feet below Dunnamast, its tendrils
occupying the same space as the cleric’s body. The PCs (and the primordial demon) maneuver in this realm as if under the effects of an air walk spell.
No map is provided, and frankly could make things more confusing. We're going to go by description here.

The next 5 rounds, Adaxis will assist his companions and then cast two extended greater magic fang on himself and Mousebane along with extended Resinous Skin.
I forgot about these previous long buffs. 19.5 hrs remaining on greater magic fang and 170 minutes remaining on Resinous Skin (Reflex DC 16).
Adaxis casts Barkskin (100 min) and Bristle (10 min) upon himself during the ritual casting.

Neither Adaxis nor Svetlana recall anything about this type of creature at all. Sorry, crazy CR on this, and yes even at low tier. Plus here's a strong argument that the base of the DC for a creature so rare should be 15...[ooc]
Faldoc looses some arrows. The first two share the string, and both connect! The beast's body does not seem to feel the full force, as it seems a bit insubstantial [ooc]read that: incorporeal.
14 total damage dealt.
The next three shots are too hurried to connect at all.
Now you hear an arcane incantation coming from inside the thing.
Suddenly each of you sees before you the most frightening, horrible thing that you can imagine.
Everyone please roll a Will Save. To save some time, if you don't make a DC 23 then I need a Fort Save too...

Right, we'll apply it to the Fort save. But I'm afraid the DC is still 23 on that one too...
The party watches in horror as Faldoc's body slowly vanishes from the dream realm.
Dun, dun, duhhhnnnn... What happens to some who dies in the dream realm? Will Faldoc return after cashing in on his "prestige" with the Society? Will return to life as a Bengal tiger? Tune in next time for "As the PC's flee!"
This part is meant to be a bit ambiguous. But don't worry too much. The encounter, and it's consequences, are pretty unique in PFS.
| GM Derek W |
Faldoc is overocme by the phantasm appearing before him.
Kayluss and Rysalius recognize the image for an illusion, and after the initial shock, they recover.
And Svetlana and Adaxis are injured by the phantom's touch, though they shrug off its powerful death effect.

OK can I attack the tendrils? Or do I have to move to attack the creature's body? Is gravity set or is it per person? Can I Walk down towards the body or do I have to walk in 45 degree zig-zags to get down there? Can I just Jump down with an acrobatics check or do I have to use Air walk?
Kayluss cuts vigorously at the creature attempting to sever its connection to the priest.

Sorry for the delay everyone, I'm back now! And thanks for rolling the save for me Derek, I should let you do that more often.

It does not appear that you can attack the tendrils. And you must move as if under the Air Walk spell. I think of it being a bit like swimming underwater. So jumping is out. And your attack provokes. You discover that the beast's tendrils have a 30' reach.

Brutal! Man, I thought low tier would be a cake walk.
| GM Derek W |
Indeed, this one is pretty interesting...Now, assuming that Kayluss is grappled and now pulled adjacent to the demon-thing. I'll apply Rysalius' bard song, which offsets the grappled penalty and allows Kayluss' attack to hit. And it's OK since he's swinging that sword 1-handed!
Rysalius's song lifts Kalyuss' and the team's spirits and allows the powerful fighter to slice into it's flesh despite being held fast!
With inpsire, 12 damage gets through. 26 total so far.
Now it's the creature's turn!
The primordial demon focuses on Kayluss, flaying his mind with psychic force!

Should the same fate occur to me as Kayluss, I'll attack with only one hand.

So this is going to bother some of you. The creature is incorporeal, which I mentioned before. Your attacks deals half damage. Even though incorporeal, it is specifically able to grapple you here in the dream realm. It can't even get to or survive the "real world". I apologize if this combat is frustrating. I intend full disclosure when it's over.
Psychic implosion is just on grappled target, Rysalius, sorry for being unclear.
Kayluss struggles on, but can't quite land a blow. Likewisr Rysalius misses by an inch. Svetlana deals a massive strike, but the thing's shapeless and insubstantial body prevent her brilliant slash from being more effective...
If incorporeals are not immune to crits, let me know. I think you can only crit them with Ghost Touch/Salt.

The Pathfinder fight with great ferocity. Kayluss slashes the demon once, then Adaxis tears into it with full force, every attack dealing damage to it.
Svetlana lands another vicious blow, hurting the thing just enough to finish it off!
Out of combat.
Immediately Brother Dunnamast is ejected from his dream realm, the hold over him broken. The party then feels a strange sensation and everyone wakes up in Cayden's Hall. Faldoc is there too, looking a bit worse for wear but very much alive!
Cayden’s clerics are happy to provide healing for free, and offer to clear a place for you to rest for the night. Xersus in particular suffers serious psychic scaring, and Osprey feels compelled to
get him back to the Grand Lodge as soon as possible. He also needs to inform the Decemvirate of the gravity of the situation.
After resting for a few hours, brother Dunnamast is well enough to speak with you.
He tells you of Baldimar's hidden chambers beneath Cayden’s Hall: the strange flagstone beneath the bench in the garden is the entrance.
Brother Dunnamast also recounts meeting a pretty lass while out drinking, but very little after that. She seemed particularly curious about his faith, and he jovially invited her to partake in the eternal celebration. After several drinks she became giddy and seductively lured him into the privacy of the storage rooms, where she kissed him and he blacked out. When he awoke, he was the dream realm where the
primordial demon lay in waiting — he can’t remember how long he’d been there.
Before the he leaves, Xersus warns you of what they might be up against (namely demons), and for added protection gives you a gem of brightness and three cleric scrolls: dismissal, magic circle against evil, and restoration.

But holy heck, what a ripper brawl!
Svetlana awakes with a broad smile, her eyes still wild with adrenaline at facing off against such a huge demon. Her smile takes a kinder tone when she sees that Faldoc is alive and thanks the Clerics for their aid.
She listens intently to the tale of the demonic seductress, nodding sagely and with much sympathy at the mans plight, and frowns at the suggestion that there might still be remnants of the foul plot afoot.
"We fought well, it is good to see what greatness can be achieved when people unify against corruption and Evil, this poor man was subject to an outrageous enslavement of the soul - we must root out this enchantresses confederates and prevent more people suffering the same fate... like those Clerics we met earlier...!
