Asmodeus Jones as "Kiliuk" |
Having caught his breath, Kiliuk walks over to Tolwin and nudges him with his boot. "Boy. Wake. I would have words with you."
GM Dennis |
Remember you found four more potions in the shack as well.
"Leave him alone! Can't you see he's hurt!" Richelle says as Kiliuk nudges the unconscious Tolwin. "I don't know who he is, except that he called himself Feran. He was camping here when Tolwin and I arrived. He said he was going to help us pull a prank on the town for kicking us out of the festival." Tolwin remains unconscious.
Desirea |
Brialla takes a swig from one of the potions from the shack.
cure light potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
and then drinks another potion.
cure light potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Pirate_Pregen |
Torgen snarls a bit "I told you boys you were in over your head, now people are hurt. Let's wake Tolwin up and make things right before anything else bad happepns."
Torgen will feed a potion to the unconscious Tolwin.
GM Dennis |
Tolwin coughs and his eyes flutter open when the potion is poured in his mouth. He looks around in a panic, then stammers "Do-Don't hurt me! I give up!"
GM Dennis |
Tolwin hesitates as the half-orc looms, but sensing a lack of patience at this point, he hesitantly scrambles to his feet.
z_Meraina |
"Yeah, well, your friend's prank could have gotten us killed," Meraina snaps. "As could you! Now, what's going on with that cave?"
GM Dennis |
The two teenagers glance nervously at the cave, then at each other. "It wasn't my fault! We just went in to look at it. I didn't know it could reach that far!"
When Tolwin trails off, Richelle speaks up. "That...thing in there took the amulet. Snatched it right off Tolwin's neck! We ran outta there as quick as we could."
Pirate_Pregen |
"Well, time to go to the cave and recover the necklace, right?" Torgen grunts.
GM Dennis |
Richelle shrugs. "He said his name was Feran. He had some plan to create a little chaos in town. I don't really know what he was after."
You can easily secure the unconscious Feran. What are you going to do with Richelle and Tolwin?
z_Meraina |
"These two have caused a LOT of trouble. Let's tie them up too-- gently-- just to be sure they don't get any other bright ideas while we're in that cave." Meraina pauses. "....though we should be sure they can eventually get free if something bad happens to us."
GM Dennis |
Richelle and Tolwin protest a little, but are far too afraid of you to put up any real resistance without Feran behind them. They submit, and you secure them as much by intimidation as by rope.
Entering into the cave, the dank scent of moss hangs heavy in the air as the gloom in the cave thickens. Some daylight filters in to the mouth of the cave (the entryway is in low-light), but the caverns receding deeper in on either side are completely dark. Any deeper into the cave and you will be in darkness. Please tell me how you wish to deal with light situation (darkvision folks leading the humans? Light spell on the leader? Torch?), and whether you’re moving quickly through the cave to find the creature, or slowly and carefully.
z_Meraina |
Meraina is happy to conjure a light for the path, touching a small pebble and making it glow gently. "Here, I can hold this? Or one of you. I say we be careful, who knows what might be hiding in here."
Pirate_Pregen |
Torgen shugs "I can see in the dark lassie, but if ye want I can hold it."
GM Dennis |
These cramped corridors smell like fungus and rot. You creep forward, checking side passages, as Meraina's light spell illuminates the cave walls 20ft in front of Torgen and casts shadows for another 20ft beyond (bright light for 20ft, dim for 20ft beyond that).
Ridges on the map represent sloping passages downward. Squares that are sloped are difficult terrain.
z_Meraina |
"You can see in the dark? Wow! Well, do you need your hands free to use your weapons or anything? If so, I can hold it."
Per: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Pirate_Pregen |
Torgen shakes his head "I'm a dwarf, we all see in the dark, Torag forged me with two hands, normally I use a weapon in both, but in tough times we all do our part."
GM Dennis |
As you continue forward, you suddenly hear the loud, metallic SNAP! of a chain breaking under tension, followed quickly by a furious and triumphant roar. and thudding footsteps. Coming quickly into view is a large, ugly creature with two heads, the remnants of the chain that had until recently restrained it still draped over its form. When it sees you, it roars and smashes its flail against the wall of the cavern!

It's weak to being stabbed to death (no weaknesses, per se). It's going to kill you with it's big, rusty flail (no special attacks).

The cousins both fire at range, neither able to connect with ettin as it reels from well-timed blows from Torgen and Kiliuk. Enraged, it responds, swinging its flail at Kiliuk, roaring in triumph as he lands a brutal blow on the half-orc!

Torgen, worried about his compatriot, steps to the side quickly attacks, trying to draw the creature's attention. Neither blow lands, but it does create an effective distraction as, seeing an opening, Kiliuk smashes his mace with brutal force into one of the creature's heads. Bloodied and stunned by the blow, the creature does not seem to notice Brialla, who takes a moment to steady her aim then fires, her arrow striking the beast squarely in the chest and toppling it backwards where it lands with a thud, unmoving. Out of combat!
Wrapped around the fingers of one of the ettin’s filthy hands you find a beautiful, glittering golden pendant in the shape of dragon's head. A more leisurely search of the remaining cavern reveals little more than some soiled rags that served as a sort of bed for the beast, and the broken remains of the chain that until recently confined it.
-----
Having defeated the ettin and recovered the golden pendant, you emerge from the cave to find yourselves face to face with Aurelliax in her true form (picture in the slide deck). She is a magnificent mature adult gold dragon whose presence dwarfs your own. ”Thank you, travelers, for protecting the people of Highdelve, and for recovering my amulet. Truly, you are the heroes these people needed. Let me commend you, as well, for sparing the lives of those miscreants. Please accept these as a token of my appreciation.” She gives each of youa beautiful, glittering statuette of a gold dragon with diamonds for eyes.
”Furthermore, I believe each of you came here in search of information; perhaps I can help.” She turns to Kiliuk first. ”I believe your mother currently resides in Grayhaven, not far from here, where she crafts fine garments. The cargo you seek, Torgen” she says, turning her massive head toward the dwarf, ”did indeed pass through Highdelve. It left here several days ago, however, destined also for Grayhaven.” Looking back to Kiliuk, she adds ”Perhaps your journey together is not yet at an end. As for the two of you,” she says, turning to Brialla and Meraina, ”I have spoken to Carth Garenth. Not only does he have the ring design you seek, but he wishes to make you a new one, free of charge, in thanks for your bravery.”
”Now,” she says, unfurling her magnificent wings. ”would you care to ride on my back as I carry the cart of brightblooms, along with the prisoners, back to Highdelve?”
-----
With the bullies and Feran locked up, the townspeople fete you as heroes, inviting you to hand out brightblooms during the most joyous Brightbloom Ball the town has ever seen—all thanks to your efforts as Heroes for Highdelve!
That’s the end! Feel free to add any RP with the Aurelliax and the townsfolk that you’d like. I’ll get your chronicles up tonight or tomorrow.
Asmodeus Jones as "Kiliuk" |
Once the haze clears, a shaky Kiliuk is quite pleased to hear that he's on the right track to find his mum. He sort of glowers at the two kids and mumbles "Stay out of trouble, you two." and graciously accepts the ride.
Thanks GM for being an awesome GM, as always!!
