I'm assuming Prot Evil applies to this things attacks? It won't have changed anything but keep in mind that you guys have it.
Piroth senses the evil coming from the creature but shrugs it off with ease.
He then proceeds to carefully cast a spell before taking a swing with a surge of power.

Olga screams in pain as her gaze meets the hounds'. She then tightens her grip, attempting to maintain pinning the beast's head in between her legs.

Alek carefully aims his next strike at the strange, demented creature wrapped up in Olga's legs. He brings his blade down in a vicious arc, connecting with a solid, well-placed strike! Meanwhile, Cinderpaw retaliates against the skeleton which tried to slice and claw him. The wolf snarls and snaps at the foul undead! Unfortunately his rapid attack is ill-aimed and Cinder's jaws snap closed empty!
Cinder Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 1 = 7

Olga must feel very happy to have assistance of Alek, if only for the fact that that blow didn't hit her, but the monster instead. It's a swift blow, cleanly separating the head from the creature's neck.

With a well-aimed swipe of the shield, Darvik also crushes the last skeleton, making the room quiet once more.
Combat over
There's a worn-out leather strap hanging from the mouth of one of the blue beasts
There are some interesting items among the belongings of the remains of the cultists: a dagger, a pouch of dust and a beaten metal sheet with inscriptions.
Olga the Unmarried
|
Olga stands up, covered in smear from the dark creature. She has a look in her eyes, a look that only can be described as that of a young girl in love. She slowly turns towards Alek, turning red as a beet.
W..w..w..wow A- a- alek! That w- w- was impressive! You eh... m- m- married?
Please, please, please, by Iomedae, let him not be married..!

As the last of the monsters fall, the wild look in Piroth's eyes quickly fades. He takes a deep breath to calm herself before taking a closer look around the room.
Spotting a few interesting items, he starts reaching out for the leather strap. But he pulls back at the last moment: "Be careful about touching things we come across in here. I've already had to deal with curses on this mission and I'd rather not have to do it again."
He then casts a quick cantrip before focusing on the various items across the room.
Casting Detect magic and focusing on spotted items in order, separating them carefully with mace if needed

Alek leans down to check Cinderpaw for any injuries, scratching behind his friend's ears. "Good boy, Cinder!" Olga's words cause him to stand suddenly and stiffen, looking decidedly uncomfortable with the question. "Married? No, I um, no I'm not married." He looks around for something to quickly change the conversation when he spots the leather strap dangling from one of the hounds as Piroth reaches for it.
"Agreed, caution should be used within this place. Is anyone in need of healing?"
| DM Kludde |
The leather strap is attached to a belt pouch - something the beast must have have chewed on and swallowed. The contents have been severely damaged by the stomach acids, but several parts of a journal are still intact and legible. The entries include poetry and music, as well as mundane day-to-day observations. The last several pages record complaints about the Aspis Consortium’s lack of appreciation for the author's accomplishments. A folded sheet of paper wedged in the journal bears the title “Potential Partners” and names the Pathfinder Society among other well-known organizations.
| DM Kludde |
Deeper into the underground hall, the party picks up the footprints of the two agents they're chasing, which lead deeper into the structure. Then, the prints move toward the buried door at the end of the temple, where they just.. disappear.
Darvik Willowbrook

Alright, they had to go this way. Darvik tries to determine where the tracks might pick up at.

Alek Stormcrow
|
Sorry I didn't respond to your previous post, Kludde, extremely busy/long weekend...
Alek frowns as he looks over the piece of paper. "How strange, I wonder what this could mean?" He looks to his companions to see if they have any further information?
Survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Once they reach the magically disappearing tracks, Alek takes a few moments to look around the area to see if he can determine anything in regards to their quarry. If he is unable to locate anything meaningful, he will look to Cinderpaw and set him to sniffing about.
| DM Kludde |
That's ok, a lot of people were at Gen Con anyway.
Alex determines that the tracks stop about 15 feet from the buried doorway.
There's cracks in the floor between the door and the end of the footprint trail. The crack point to some underground tunnel, and it would be possible to reach it by just bashing in the floor here.
Piroth
|
Piroth ponders the message for a moment.
"I'm guessing here, but I think at least one of our friends may not be as loyal to the Aspis as we originally thought. It might be worth our while trying to keep them alive. Maybe try our hands at some recruiting."
As the tracks they were following suddenly disappear, Piroth looks around trying to figure out where they could have gone.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
"Well, I'll be. I hope you have a better idea than me where they might have gone, casue I'm stumped."
| DM Kludde |
If you cannot find it, it always an option to move back outside, move around the cave and try to pick up the scent from there. You'll lose time, though.
| DM Kludde |
With the help of Darvik, Olga finally notices the cracks in the ground...
| DM Kludde |
Smashing takes a strength check, or some tenacity
Alek Stormcrow
|
Alek examines the cracks more closely to examine their make up. Is it like a trapdoor made or wood? Or more akin to fractures in the natural bedrock?
Darvik Willowbrook

Darvik Willowbrook
|
First 3 is all he would require, thanks.
Darvik gives a curt nod in appreciation, then continues trying to open the trap door or whatever it is they think they found.
| DM Kludde |
The cracks in the floor are stony, and not part of any planned architecture. It seems as though someone or something made a tunnel under the temple. The cracks should eventually give way.
Bashign it open with a weapon should work. The break DC seems to be too high, currently.
Alek Stormcrow
|
Thanks for the clarification, Kludde.
Alek looks over his weapons and those of his comrades. "Piroth, mind if I borrow your mace? I believe Darvik and I can smash through this, but my weapons would be of little use for breaking through stone."
Piroth
|
"You're probably right. Here, give it your best shot. Saves me from breaking a sweat." Piroth unwraps the cord around the mace and passes it back to Alek.
| DM Kludde |
It takes a couple of good bashes - quite a few actually - until the floor finally gives way.
A system of tunnels runs under the temple, cutting through the mountains. They are dark, about ten feet wide, and they twist and turn. There are some rough spots on the walls
The substance is a potent acid.
These interwoven tunnels were made by a death worm, and allowed the creature to navigate around the pillars of the sun.
I also need a dungeoneering or survival check to navigate your way around.
Piroth

Aid Another Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
Piroth takes a makeup marker from his disguise kit and makes sure to leave marks as they travel the tunnels.
"Keep an eye out for these marks. If you see them again, we are going in circles."
| DM Kludde |
The adventurers are moving through the tunnel, but despite their best efforts, progress is slow, and at some point they do see the marks of Piroth again. Fortunately, that save them from going back into the underground temple altogether, and after a while, the trail is found again, and the pathfinders reach the surface in a gorge.
Daylight and hot air great them as two tall sandstone outcroppings rise to the north and south, channeling whistling wind and stinging sand through this pass. The carcass of a giant serpentine beast covered in dried blisters lies in a heap at the gorge’s narrowest point, the body savaged by some powerful predator.
