“Pathfinders, please get settled. All campus-wide events are closing. All venture-captains and field agents are invited to gather on the north lawn for refreshments and the keynote address in several minutes.”
Table GMs Act 2 begins November 10th when the Overseer Announcement is made, please begin to conclude whatever contests are ongoing.

GM Crucible |

Future parts of this adventure use a mechanic called "aid tokens". I have some downtime, so I'm going to post what they do now. Our table doesn't have any yet, but we may in the future.
When we get an aid token, then feel free to peek in the spoiler.
Once per encounter, any character at the table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of five ways described below. Once a table uses an Aid Token, the token grants no further benefit until the end of the encounter, at which point one of the players can pass the Aid Token to a neighboring table for them to use. When I tell you to, visit their Gameplay thread and pass them the aid token using an *in-character* post. Post a link to the hand-off post here in our discussion thread.
It is very important that the players remember that there are a limited number of Aid Tokens, and hoarding one means that somebody else doesn’t get to use it.
An Aid Token’s benefits vary based on the table’s subtier, and these benefits can take one of the following five forms.
1. Aid Another: A Pathfinder agent helps the PCs solve a puzzle, disable a trap, or accomplish some other task as if performing the aid another action for a PC. (In Subtiers 5–6 and 7–8, the bonus granted increases by 1. In Subtier 10–11, the bonus increases by 2.)
2. Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 1d8 points. In addition, after the attack, the target is considered to be flanked until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn. In Subtiers 5–6 and 7–8, increase the damage dealt to 2d8 points. In Subtier 10–11, this amount increases to 3d8 points.
3. Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 1d6 points of damage. In Subtiers 5–6 and 7–8, the amount healed increases to 3d6 points. In Subtier 10–11, the amount healed increases to 5d6 points. Alternatively, in any subtier the agent can instead cast neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease with a caster level equal to the table’s APL (minimum 5).
4. Spellcasting Synergy: A Pathfinder agent casts a spell at the same time, increasing the save DC and caster level of a PC’s spell by 1. In Subtiers 7–8 and 10–11, the PC’s caster level instead increases by 2.
5. Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the effects of a bard’s inspire courage bardic performance for 3 rounds. In Subtiers 1–2 and 3–4, the competence bonus is +1. In Subtiers 5–6 and 7–8, the competence bonus increases to +2. In Subtier 10–11, the competence bonus increases to +3.

I just want to point out that I totally didn't realize that Doctor Scalawag was an NPC... I thought he was a player! I was like "GM! WTF, KILLING A PLAYER WITH A STATUE??" and then I moused over the name. LOL...
If the little Doctor seemed like a player (character), then I'll take a little bow for that one. You might not believe me, but "Mander Wildthorn", a halfling witch with a monkey familiar really is written into the scenario ... Now I really do want to make a halfling witch with a monkey familiar, though!

GM Crucible |

I'm off to bed now, and have a 12+ hr work day tomorrow. You might not see me until Sunday. Use the time to coordinate how you want to approach this.

Based on the status update I received today, I am saddened to report that we are not the fastest table ...
... we're at least two days behind the fastest.
:-)
Not that it really matters. Y'all are doing very well, and this table is ahead of most. There are some (dysfunctional?) tables that haven't reported a single success yet.
You guys have now reported three.

DM, work is going to be very hectic the next two days, so I won't be posting as much as usual until Friday. Please autopilot Pau as necessary. Or if someone in he group wants to do so, that's fine. Obviously Pau thinks he can do anything, and will try anything, so that'll
Kill him one day. Feel free to run him as such!

GM Crucible |

Understood. @Players: please take the lead in botting Pau as needed.

Pau turns and gives Apollyanna all of his things. ;)
Unfortunately he's a monk.

GM Crucible |

Entirely understandable. I'll be spending the week avoiding in-laws, so I'll be around occasionally. But if enough people aren't, I completely understand.

By the way, you can all pat yourselves on the back. This table is currently tied for the highest number of reported successes. This is thanks to a high post rate from all of you. Well done.
EDIT: The average for all tables so far is three successes. Y'all have six.

For no particular reason than he's running another CORE table in a low tier, I suggest GM Lari's table, but you can pick any one that hasn't received a token yet.
@Evarice (or someone you designate), visit their table in character and deliver them the aid token. Please let me know when that's done, so we can report to the Overseer.

Just to be clear: I am not trying to *not* be a team player; Wyatt is just intelligent, but not charismatic, so he will state his opinion, even if honeyed words might be better ;-) He still cooperates, though :-)
No worries, I've got a Charisma 7 (but Intimidate +7 at 1st level) wannabe eldritch knight too. Got another with Charisma 8* as well, but she just doesn't talk much. I think I've made a RP career of playing the guy or gal you wouldn't want in your party. If only it paid better. ;)

![]() |

I quite enjoy my 7 CHA barbarian.
I tried to be a little different with him. He is very friendly. Very Friendly. No sense of personal space. Likes hugging things. Some don't smell too good, and some don't want hugs. And of course he thinks the world revolves around him. Calls the rest of his party "Friends of Iso". Of course you have to have saved his life to become a Friend, rather than just someone who tags along with him.

![]() |

I gave GM Yari's table our aid token.
And no worries, Wyatt. I play Evarice as a war veteran turned private eye, so she would be opposed to outright killing people, unless it's in the heat of battle.

![]() |

I'm sure experiment 322 will love that research.
I have not actually ever met anyone who ever played anyone but 322 from Serpents Rise outside of the game itself. It is as if every other game was played by groups of clones of 322.
Speaking for the Zurnzal lobby (as I currently play the estimable Mister Z) I had said off-handedly to the rest of the party that:
..they love her. "322 is awesome!" "She's got wings of darkness!" It's like they're a club or something. Where's the Z-love? *Fume* Kinda makes me sick.
To which the response was:
Truth is, I AM awesome :) You're just jealous.
What is it about 322 anyhow?

![]() |

Well by the time I signed up someone chose the Magus.
- I never played an Oracle before. Turns out they get to do a lot of cool stuff when they level up, in exchange for losing divine spell versatility.
- It took me a while to figure out her personality. And then I decided her mind is so broken she thinks Aspis wants to be her best friend. Everyone else is too...professional.
- 322 gets to do some cool stuff, like animate statues and steal the soul of a major character. My 322 helped Zurnzal ambush some guy, and I'm unaware of the other characters' goals.
In conclusion, 322 rules, everyone else drools!

GM Crucible |

Thanks for the aid token handoff, Evarice. Reported!

![]() |

I loved running 322 as well. I had her broken mind just say random things, and talk to an invisible friend who wasn't there.

GM Crucible |

I will be traveling most of the day tomorrow (Sunday), and thus will not be able to update midday. I'll try and get a post in before I leave in the morning.

![]() |

I played 322 is kind of insane.
She talked to her wand "Wanda" and told her off if the healing wasn't good enough.
Oh, and she giggled. A lot. Sometimes when party members had bad things happen to them.

![]() |

Permission to gripe.
Can I tell you all how much I hate this puzzle right now? Five days we have been trying to get in, losing exploration time. Not a fan of this, at all.

![]() |

I'm with you, Pau, but some scenarios just work better in PbP than others. I was trying my best not to use my out-of-game knowledge of having played it before to beat the puzzle, but I think I might go ahead and do so now, to speed things along.

![]() |

Especially as we have very little time for this act :-(
Normally I kind of like puzzles, at least ones with enough clues. The best take a little working out and then you have the ah-ha moment and realise the answer was in front of you all the time, you just had to think about it right. The worst you solve by accident and never really understand why (well, I guess the worst you fail to solve at all).
All that said, it is nice to have a break from hitting things over the heat. This is possibly the most combat heavy scenario I have ever played.

![]() |

I see why a puzzle is here - we're burning resources left and right on these fights (see my lack of healing ability for more information.) Unfortunately each query takes a day. Hopefully we're almost done here.

GM Crucible |

Yes, you can gripe. I understand, and feel the same way. Now I've cost you another day by being sick. You've got enough I can move it along.
On the flip side, as Evarice points out, everything from here on out is increasingly difficult waves of fights, so ... don't be in too much of a hurry!

![]() |

Don't worry about it GM, you've done an excellent job, and everyone deserves a sick day once in a while. PbP is just not the ideal place for puzzles of this type.

GM Crucible |

Wyatt & Gailen: I need your PFS reporting information, please, including downtime. (If you PM-ed it to me, please remind me that you did, as it's not posted in this thread.)
We're not quite done, but I can start putting Chronicles together over the weekend.
I typically just post a temporary link to a Google Drive folder, but if anyone wants theirs PM-ed instead, please let me know.

![]() |

BTW, if one of you Shelynites is on the season 6 FJC and wanted to convert Prisim to the way of the Silver Crusade, she'd be up for it. Not that it costs her anything at level 1 anyway. But she's been pretty impressed with the Sisterhood of Shelyn.

Apollyanna knocks on your door, introduces herself and leaves you some literature.

"Ohh.. silver crusade. That sounds very exciting! 'Brilliant Lance of Shining Truefulness'" she cries out in excitement.

GM Crucible |

Boon rolls! Win on a 1 or 20. No re-rolls.
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Apollyanna: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Evarice: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Gailen: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Pau: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Prisim: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Wyatt: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Congratulations to Evarice! I'll send a PM with the boon choices.
Please double check to ensure I have the reporting information for your character, either in my PMs or in this thread. (I think I have everyone at this table.)
EDIT: Yep, I've got everyone. Just need Evarice's boon selection (see PM!) before I report. Chronicles out soon!
