As you regroup, the Count proudly marches beside his trophy. Entering the clearing, the Baron appears impressed by the Count's efforts. "Well done, boy, well done!" he exclaims, slapping the Count on the back. The Baron didn't manage to bring anything down, making the Count's performance seem even more impressive.
The rest of the day passes uneventfully, and you find another clearing to set up camp.
The next morning, the smell of wood smoke fills the camp as porters busy themselves tending various cooking fires. Outside the camp, the jungle is
alive with the sounds of monkeys, birds, and chirping insects.
As the morning goes on, the small monkeys become more troublesome, sneaking into camp to try and steal food, rummage through gear, and overturn containers. The porters try to dissuade them by offering little bits of food at the edge of the camp, but this just brings more monkeys out of the jungle.
The Count tries to keep the monkeys away by making noises and such, but the Baron seems very upset by their presence. You hear him mutter under his breath as he gets more irate: "Filthy bastards!" and, "Damn monkeys, probably spies..." and so on.
Does anyone do anything before you break camp?
Roland Irestone |
Roland will shoot at a few of the monkeys in an attempt to dissuade them from coming closer.

Screw this... Adeah isn't about to waste ammunition on what would take her all day to take out. She turns tail and runs toward the elephant, hoping that climbing it will get her away from the biting, clawing and screeching.

Round 2
The priest is a bit put off at the sight of the nutty monkeys being cut down and charred to death. While not much for animal welfare, he does believe in being smart over resorting to a bloodbath.
"Everyone! Look away from the blast!" he shouts as he whips out a vial and tosses it into the line of sight of the monkeys. A dazzling display of colors whirls around, captivating the simian horde...
Move 20 ft in, then toss potion of color spray at both swarms. Will save vs DC 11 I think? Target any square that will maximize the effect:

Round 2
The priest is a bit put off at the sight of the nutty monkeys being cut down and charred to death. While not much for animal welfare, he does believe in being smart over resorting to a bloodbath.
"Everyone! Look away from the blast!" he shouts. Pointing to an area as many monkeys as possible can see, he announces, "Vspyshka!" A dazzling flash of light briefly but brilliantly flares, hopefully frightening off the simian horde...

Grigori shouts, "Everyone! Look away from the blast! Vspyshka!" The burst of light dazzles a few of the monkeys, but seems to have no effect on the teeming hordes.
Nick delays. We seem to have lost Nick; I have PM'd him without response. :(
Rapunzel draws her blade and wades into the swarm, slashing monkeys left and right.
Lymwin hurls a vial of liquid which explodes right in the center of the monkey swarm, blowing monkeys are parts of monkeys everywhere but managing to avoid Roland and Rapunzel. The survivors scatter and flee in to the jungle, or roll on the ground burning. Rapunzel

Adeah Silversong |
Whoops, I just realized last round's attack roll resulted in a misfire, meaning the damage was never applied. I'll spend a grit point to Quick Clear as a move action, reload as a free, and fire as a standard.

Oi! My spells are not accomplishing much. And I don't vwant to look inept in front of the ladies... or in front of the baron and count for that matter...
Sighing, the priest relents and closes in, drawing his bejeweled shasqua as he does. Unfortunately, he blunders and nearly drops his blade in all the excitement, though the image-conscious priest tries to pass it off as merely a skillful swing and a miss.

"Disgusting cretons!" The priest wipes some of the monkey poo and blood from his new clothes with his embroidered handkerchief and some faith-created water. He offers to do likewise for the ladies.
Then, he attends to the nobles, "My good Baron and Count, I trust you are unharmed by these pesky little beasts?"
As the group gets its bearings, he offers aloud, "Comrades, come close so that the Mother of Souls may heal our vwounds. With that, the priest holds up his silver Pharasmin symbol to the heavens, and speaks a brief prayer to his goddess. Everyone feels a little better.

A few of the porters rush to the aid of their two fallen brothers, binding their wounds. Others prostrate themselves and chant sorrowfully in Vudrani, and begin to gather the scattered simian corpses reverently. Grigori's healing burst brings the two men back from the brink of death, but they are still in shock by the experience of being torn to pieces by animals they revere.
The Baron and Count and unharmed, although plainly shocked by the ferocity of the monkey attack. The Baron seems deeply affected by the attack, as it bring s back memories of his wartime experience against the hordes of the Gorilla King. The Count's inaction is plainly due to fear, although he tries to put a brave face on. He did place himself between the Baron and the monkeys, though.
GM Lamplighter |
After a late start, you get back on the trail. Animal sightings are rare, but you do have several sightings of lone monkeys in the trees, watching you warily.
After an unsuccessful morning hunt, you get back onto the main trail and head deeper into the jungle. The Baron asks you to keep a sharp lookout for tiger tracks, and several times he dismounts to examine the trail personally. No sign of any large predators are seen, though; the trail is cris-crossed by various animals such as antelope and smaller herbivores.
Mid-afternoon on the trail, a crisis rears its head! A disturbance in the brush ahead stops the party, and the scouts (including any PCs who wish) move forward to investigate. The source turns out to be an enormous cobra, which agressively spreads it hood and hisses at the lead party. Meanwhile, several smaller snakes appear out of a den near the elephant, causing it to panic and rear up on its hind legs!
