Prisim |
Prisim points the magical item out to Amiri. "Over there... no the other there. Left, down, that's it!"
GM Paladin |
Amiri uses her prodigious strength to pull the weapon rack away from the wall, revealing an ancient sword trapped behind it against the wall. The sword appears to be of dwarven make, and with carvings of flames along the length of the blade.
Dwarves stumbled across the secret of crafting fire-forged steel in an effort to make forge-friendly tools. It didn’t take them long to adapt its unique properties to arms and armor. Fire-forged steel channels heat in one direction to protect its wearer or wielder. When it is crafted into armor, heat is channeled away from the wearer, offering some limited protection. Armor crafted from fire-forged steel grants the wearer fire resistance 2.
Weapons crafted from fire-forged steel similarly channel heat away from the wearer; this does not grant the wielder energy resistance. Instead, the blade absorbs and channels heat to the parts of the weapon that contact enemies. If the weapon is exposed to 10 points or more of fire damage (such as from an opponent’s fireball or by holding it in a campfire for 1 full round), the weapon adds +1d4 points of fire damage to its attacks for the next 2 rounds. If the wielder is wearing fire-forged armor and using a fire-forged weapon, this bonus damage increases to 1d6 points of fire damage and lasts for 4 rounds. This bonus damage does not stack with fire damage from weapon enhancements such as flaming.
Prisim |
craft(traps?): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Would make it with just a int check
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
"Wow, fireforged steel. That can absorb heat and do extra damage with it."
Seoni / lucklesshero pregen lv4 |
spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Seoni examines the sword...(after casting detect magic) Curious magical blade, though I've no idea what it's enchantment is.
GM Paladin |
Anyone proficient with longswords can give the sword a few practice swings and note that it is significantly more well-balanced and easy to swing than a typical longsword. If anyone wants to use it, it has a +1 enhancement bonus, but I won't say if it has any other properties until someone makes the appropriate roll or does something that would activate any such properties, should they exist.
GM Paladin |
Ok, so stairway to the south, or hallways to the west?
Prisim |
Prisim looks in both directions, concentrating to try and sense any hint of magic down either pathway.
Seoni / lucklesshero pregen lv4 |
Daeron, you should wield the sword for now. It is highly un-likely it would be cursed. Then let us proceed south.
Tallwun |
Tallwun proceeds to the top of the stairs and, barring spotting anything immediately, walks around the corner.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
GM Paladin |
Daeron feels nothing that seems like a curse as he takes the sword.
Tallwun and Prism look up the stairs, and see a hallway running west, along with an alcove across from the stairwell, and another to the east, each holding a statue of a creature like a butterfly with metal wings, with a central node that is enveloped in a continuously burning blue flame. Prism detects that the flame is magical, and is easily able to deduce that it is the result of a continual flame spell.
Ietsuna Amiri |
Amiri follow Tallwun to the statue. She keeps silent but looks around for signs of danger.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Tallwun |
"Bored now."
Tallwun moves to the passage to the south and peers down into the darkness.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
GM Paladin |
Tallwun moves up the stairs and into the room, finding murals depicting dog-headed figures and angelic humanoids battling undead horrors covering the walls of this well-lit gallery.
Please position your icons for where you would be at this point, and make perception rolls as well.
Prisim |
Prisim closely inspects the statue at the end of the room.
"Butterflies fighting zombies! How cool is that . Although I'd totally have gone for them fighting vampires, which while way nastier you have to admit are a bit better looking. I mean zombies are just soo grody."

Two Blades in the Shadows |
Two Blades quietly entered the room, traveling around the others and along the wall to help protect his backside.

Seoni mumbles to no one in particular.
Ietsuna Amiri |
Amiri again follows the oread along the length of the chamber. Although she can see a little she trusts in his better developed vision. Nonetheless she looks around to see what she can identify and notice.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
GM Paladin |
Forgot to add what Tallwun was seeing when he went to look at the south passage.
Though the magical light doesn't reach far, Tallwun's extraplanar vision pierces the gloom, showing him a hallway reaching past the edge of his perception, and opening into a larger room partway along its length, as well as two side passages.
I made a perception check for Prisim. Perception Prisim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Tallwun |
"Something in the dark, you say? Do we talk to it or bash its face in?"
GM Paladin |
At Amiri's words, the others begin to react, but they are too slow to react to what she sees before it is too late. In the narrow hallway to the west, where before was only darkness, now there is a strange, four-eyed ebony dragon with a long, serpentine body contorted into a twisted knot and trailing blood-red frills. It hovers in the air, five feet off the floor, and a small, dark, cloaked figure crouches on the stairs below it.
The dragon hisses, "Invaders in my domain... fools!" He opens his maw and spews out a massive cone of caustic liquid.
Well, that's a breath weapon. Amiri, Seoni, Daeron, and Prism need to make Reflex saves, DC 18. Daeron and Prisim are a little bit behind the corners so they get a partial cover bonus, +2. The total damage is 26 acid, 13 if you make the save.
Initiative order:
Daeron (if conscious, otherwise roll stabilization)

GM Paladin |
I just went and drew lines on the map to make sure. Sorry, but none of the lines I drew from the dragon to the opposite corners of your square intersect with a wall, even a little. Daeron and Prisim both did have intersects. Please roll to stabilize.
Two Blades, you don't have to make a will save if you move into the area of effect after glitterdust is cast, so you can save your GM roll. You also recall one additional bit of information on the dark slayer. What information would you have studied on this creature?
When Prisim summons forth the blinding dust, both of the dark-adapted creatures scream in frustration as the brilliant particles overwhelm their sensitive eyes.
Tallwun is still up.

Just so you guys understand, the dragon is in the air above the dark folk.
Blinded by the glitterdust, the dragon strikes out blindly, but manages to strike Two-blades painfully three times. I rolled for miss chance, but rolled high on most of them. Three hits for a total of 27 damage. He then pushes himself back out of the doorway, rapidly beating his wings to hover.
The dark folk stumbles back into the room beyond and casts a spell. This isn't a 5-ft step, but since I think two-blades is now unconscious, and he has cover from the corner from Amiri, no attacks of opportunity occur. If Two-blades has an ability or boon that lets him avoid one of the attacks, or otherwise avoid falling unconscious, he can take one. Suddenly, the room is plunged back into darkness. The continual flame's light seems to end at the entrance of the room, except for Daeron's and Prisim's keen eyes able to see a sliver of dim light reaching into the supernatural gloom.
Ouch. Ok, so the area outlined by the dark grey rectangle is in darkness. Daeron can see into the first square next to the entrance, where the dragon is. Tallwun, with darkvision, can see normally. Seoni is unconscious and stable. Two-blades, unless he has a way to heal or block an attack as an immediate action, is unconscious and needs to roll for stabilization.
Initiative order:
Daeron
Two Blades (stabilization roll probably needed - do it in a spoiler)
Seoni (unconscious, stable)
Tallwun

Prisim |
Prisim steps forward to try to use her wand on Seoni, then things better of it and says
"Polly does this just by praying and using her hands. If I'm going to be a paladin one day, I'd best try too."
She lays a gentle hand on Seoni and mutters something about "blood is so grody"
Lay on Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
"Get up Seoni. The fight is still happening."
I'd totally do this to Two-Blades, but with the darkness, I doubt Prisim is even aware that he is down.

I forgot to mention the Dragon has concealment (20% miss chance) from Darrin and Prison. Please roll a miss chance.

Prisim can see Two Blades. The light of the continual flame is illuminating the area, holding the darkness at bay.
Prisim |
In that case she, kowing that Seoni is stable, would go up and use the LOH on two blades instead. Hurrah for faction journal cards.
