Numalar looks up at Sir Didymus, and then ambles over to peer at the wolf.
"Ah, yes... we didn't actually kill this one; Alia, your spell rendered it senseless. Did you wish to add it to your menagerie? Or should we finish it off?"
Alia, already sitting on her mat again, looks at Numalar:"Yes, I am aware I knocked it out. Matter of fact, I intended to feed it to our menagerie. We do have 3 in our entourage that prefer fresh meat. Instead of dried meat or hunting, tomorrow, they could feed on a creature that meant to feed on us. It'll keep fresh while only knocked out. Just needs a good whack now and then to prevent it from waking."

Alia, already sitting on her mat again, looks at Numalar:"...I intended to feed it to our menagerie... Just needs a good whack now and then to prevent it from waking."
Numalar raises an eyebrow for a moment, then shrugs.
"If you can keep it 'sedated,' then that's fine. Just make sure it won't get loose. You have to sleep too."
Numalar gets ready to bed down for the remainder of the night.
"Having used magic during the night, I won't recover the spells I used in this fight unless I get eight hours of rest from now on. I'm not sure if that's an issue; I still have half my spells left. I suspect the other casters are in the same boat. If we want to be at full power tomorrow though, we will have to sleep in."
Alia of the Blade
"Sleeping in would mean we arrive too late for the start of the festivities. I would prefer if we push on during the day, and start early to make sure we arrive in time - the last two days were uneventful, and before nightfall, we'll long be at our destination.", Alia responds, then turns towards Scarlet and Celyne:"Scarlet, you're still banged up pretty bad...and it's not that much longer until my turn, anyway...go rest, I'll take over the remainder of your shift!"
Bluff to make Scarlet believe her shift is almost over, regardless of wether that is so: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
And just for the record, the Wolf is bound up at the legs and muzzle. Not a true hunters job, but enough that anybody on guard would notice+could act before it manages to free itself.

Scarlet can't beat that Bluff check.
"You sure? I mean, Zokon..." The gears try to turn in Scarlet's head, but fail.
"Well, thanks. I'll sleep it off, now. Wake me up if that Worg shows up. My blades have a few things to discuss with him."
Scarlet heads back to her tent to take a nap.

"Sleeping in would mean we arrive too late for the start of the festivities. I would prefer if we push on during the day, and start early to make sure we arrive in time ..."
Numalar can probably make do with only 3 of his spell slots but I think Celyne said she was out of spells.
Alia of the Blade
Yeah, but is having less spells available not one more reason to try and reach a safe destination? Rather than camp 8 more hours now, and then either have to spend another night where the Worg could attack(after this probe), or we would have to push on after dusk, marching in the dark(slowly, and vulnerable)...

Rather than camp 8 more hours now...
Since we are 3 hours into the second watch, those of us who are sleeping in the third watch would only need an extra 3 hours. I don't remember who is in which watch though.
Celyne, what do you think?

I should clarify...I had meant to start early, with first sunrise. As in, not rest for the full time. Get on the road as quickly as possible, arrive at destination early enough for the start of the festival, without hustling even needed
So instead of "regular rest+3 hours", it would be "regular rest-2 hours", starting 5 hours earlier than otherwise.| Scarlet Scarab |
I'm fine with pushing on and sleeping in safety. Especially if this worg decides to come back.
Celyne
A divine spellcaster chooses and prepares spells ahead of time, but unlike a wizard, does not require a period of rest to prepare spells. Instead, the character chooses a particular time of day to pray and receive spells.... so Celyne doesn't need to worry about rest, just needs time to regain spells in the morning. of course being a lunar oracle, her spell regain SHOULD be tied to the cycle of the moon, but the rules say it must be a particular time of day, not a changeable time of day, so meh... morning will do. So pushing on now is fine with me as long I can get an hour in the morning to regain spells while we breakfast or something.
RPGGGM
Actually you don't prepare or pray for them as more formalized religious casters might (at one particular moment in the day). You just know your spells like a sorcerer know their 'special powers'. In fact, given their status as 'cursed' many oracles do not even like the god(s) who 'gifted' them. Therefore oracles follow the rules for regaining their spell slots as sorcerers and bards do (the only classes that could do such in the original Core Rules) and 'ready' yourself for the day through 8 hours rest and 15 minutes of preparation time. Note: this also means oracles have a recent casting limit.

I don't know... do we have coffee? Maybe bringing the coffee will be Naleksa's job? :)
As I said, I'm fairly ambivalent about the whole thing. If I have to make do with only 3 spells for 1 day I can live with that.
FYI though getting up earlier doesn't allow you to march more than 8 hours a day without force marching or hustle for more than an hour without consequences. So I'm not sure what you hope to gain by getting up early unless you are just in a hurry to get out of worg territory.
Alia of the Blade
First, get out of worg-land, plus it's the third day. The festival is starting today. We hustled and forced march in order to arrive on time. Of course we can not march LONGER than 8 hours, but we can arrive EARLIER at the destination. So if we assume we would normally arrive around 4 PM, we would instead be there 2PM, rather than 7PM(if we delay).
Besides, who says the Worg won't come back with reinforcements in a few hours? Then you're all out of spells. And the 8-hour countdown restarts...and if we're all empty, maybe the Worg comes at us again during the day? In-Character, I'd have to say that was a very small wolf pack, and some of them got away. Could well be the Worg is probing our defenses and depleting our resources, then withdrawing to let any buffs wear off, before attacking again a little later. Unless, of course, we assume that was simply a random encounter roll and we are safe for the remainder of resting...but in-character that seems a bit wrong.
RPGGGM
The party left Restov on the morning of Oathday (Thurs.) Gozran 10th, and the festival begins the 13th. Currently, it is the early morning of the 12th and you are 72 miles along your 100 mile journey to Oleg's (or 112ish if heading to the Reanult farm).
Alia of the Blade
Ah, thats better...I thought it was evening when we learned thats -OMG!-in 3 days!

Pressing on to beat the storm you Alia and Celyne both hear a faintest of noises calling upon the wind. Luna cocks her head as well. It draws a bit closer and the women realize it is a voice calling for 'help.' Turning to see the direction of the they see a slender man in the distance. He has a tattered golden and his fine silk legging are torn in several places. In one hand he clasps a lute by its strap. about a half-dozen squawking humanoids with armor made from the chitin of giant insects are chasing after him hurling small javelins at his back.
The whole scene puts one in mind of this.
Suddenly the man pitches forward and disappears from your view amid the grass. His pursuers close in around the spot where he fell.

I don't get an action in the surprise round, but here's a reaction.
Numalar is lost in thought when he is startled by the ruckus. He looks up and around wildly. "Kobolds! Green ones!" Numalar fumbles for the Sir Didymus' reins and tries to shift his crossbow to his other hand, accomplishing neither.
"Zokon! Are these kobolds enemies of the Sootscales? Or friends?"
@ GGGM: I lost track - are we at full spells or are we still down from the previous day?
RPGGGM
He clearly shouldn't have stolen their golden idol the fool.
If only he spoke Draconic.
Posh, you should offer to throw him some bardic weapon (like a whip) in exchange for the lute. I know how you shady characters like lute.
"Zokon! Are these kobolds enemies of the Sootscales? Or friends?"
That would be tough to determine (even for Zokon). Without actual contact with the local kobold tribes and clans the only information about their politics that would be available would be stuff they might share with outsiders. Being xenophobic they don't share much. The spoiler above is all useful information you are likely to get right now.
@ GGGM: I lost track - are we at full spells or are we still down from the previous day?
It is exactly seven hours fifty-four minutes after the wolf attack.
"Leave him be, by what right do you dare to hunt men in this area?... Back off and let me see to his wounds, and then we can talk."
Scarlet is correct. Diplomacy takes time you don't at present have. If you could calm things down though you could use it. In the meantime, feel free to restate your action. It does sound like you are trying to intimidate them though with that: "Back off... and then we can talk."

Might I inquire how you are out of spells? You list 4/day in your profile, but that's the base for a 2nd Level Oracle...+2 from the 20 Cha should be 6 Level 1 spells per day. And at the worg fight, you started one summon and fight ended before it came online, then you cast 2 CLW on Zokon and Scarlet, for a total of 3 spells used. So technically you should have 3/6 spells left, same as Numalar...or where did I miss something?
Alia charges the bow with her inherent power, turning it into a magical weapon by extension of the magic that empowers her, then draws an arrow and lets it fly at whoever looks like a leader, or, if none can be identified, the one closest to the man, shouting:"Forfeit your pursuit and return where you came from, or pay the price"
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Considering they used javelins/lethal force against the man they were after, I feel quite justified in returning the favor to support our demand for them to stand down or flee

"Forward, Sir Didymus! It is time for a gallant rescue!"
Sir Didymus bounds of the trail towards the Kobolds. Numalar raises his hand, which bursts into flame. He hurls a ball of flame at the kobolds.
Using produce flame. If the kobold that Alia shot at is still up, I will target him; otherwise the remaining kobold closest to the fleeing man (probably the red one?).
Produce Flame vs. touch AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

@ GGGM: I'm not that up on the mounted combat rules. I only made a single move, but if sir Didymus can do a double move and I can still cast in the same round I will do that.
Celyne wrote:celyne has no spells remaining, so moves back, ordering Luna to guard for now, waiting to see what the kobolds will do.Might I inquire how you are out of spells?
I admit I was wondering this myself.
RPGGGM
Numalar It has been a while since I had to refer to the rules on mounted combat myself but the basic gist is that you occasionally need to spend actions to handle the animal (as per the skill of similar name), but the mount itself has the normal allotment of actions and can take a double move. Note that if you are casting from a mount that is moving you need to make concentration checks to cast spells because of all the "vigorous" (or "violent") motion.
Celyne I believe the others are correct. If there were folks still wounded from the fight on Vernon's scow they were probably healed during the prior (the first full) day's travel. I don't see you casting anything on the second day's ride except those spells used against the wolves. You still retain the ability to cast those remaining spell slots even if you go without rest. You just can't regain the use of those slots that you have already cast until after you have rested.
Numalar Auritonius
|
Numalar ... you need to make concentration checks to cast spells because of all the "vigorous" (or "violent") motion.

While you can wear armor and are not required to use your voice, fingers, items or other foci, spell-like abilities are in other ways just like spells (provoke AoO, must make caster level checks, etc....) and require a concentration check, which you made.

Scarlet On our abstract map, the roadway is a 10-foot-wide band that directly abuts the rest of the map. So Scarlet is already on the map. The 135 ft. number is the approximate distance from where you are to the action down south.
Posh Still waiting to see which direction you wanted to move in.
Poshment Underhill
yes I meant to move up with the group, but he's staying sat cautiously to see how events play out. Plus his spells are short range so he needs to be in somewhat close...but not too close.

Scarlet I'm going to assume Scarlet is moving south as well under her own power rather than horse power. But I'm not moving her until I have some confirmation.
Alia nails an arrow into the high chest of the lead attacker, which gets everyone's attention even more than Celyne's dire warnings.
Some of the kobolds move into a defensive picket north of their prey.

Their victim screams as one hit bites very deep.
The man goes full defensive trying his best to shield himself from the blows raining down upon him with a small dagger and the remains of his lute.
As a side note, I was wrong, Numalar was right. Old minimum damage in D&D 3.X was 1 hit point. In Pathfinder, the minimum damage is 1 nonlethal. I bring this up because the kobold warriors do have strength penalties.
