Lorenz Aeryson |

Ended up without much access to the internet over the weekend. So probably too late but still...
Lorenz nods in agreement with Mahjik. "I'd rather travel in the dark than camp here too. But if we're stuck here then I guess I'll just have to hope none of the cannibals can see in the dark."
"I didn't actually think that Aycenia was saying this spot on the island was evil. I thought she was saying that there's an evil in the island itself, more in general. Or maybe I was just confused. Am just confused. Whatever. Thank you for the healing, though!"
Since the decision already seems to be made, Lorenz looks for a reasonably defendable spot with a few trees as shelter and sinks down to the ground, his bow in his lap, ready for whatever trouble might come for them.

Douena Trestleben |

Meh. Douena can be persuaded, if the majority wants to travel through the night. She's not thrilled at the idea of spending the night at the shrine, but she hates the idea of making this long, hot trip again if there's something we're missing. She will insist at stopping at dusk to talk to Desna, though, if we're traveling. We can wait for Urza and/or Makoa to vote.

"Psh!" Douena scoffs. "They're just humans. They're just as blind in the dark as you are. They wouldn't take the chance of travelling a trapped trail in the dark and getting stuck on their own spikes."

Yeah, I wasn't considering the decision made yet, since only Douena and Mahjik had spoken up. Being the weekend, I was allowing a bit more time for others to have their say too. So if Lorenz wants to vote to leave, he is welcome to do so.
"Psh!" Douena scoffs. "They're just humans. They're just as blind in the dark as you are. They wouldn't take the chance of travelling a trapped trail in the dark and getting stuck on their own spikes."
Aerys nods. "I suspect we're safer here than we are most other places. Except Aycenia's grove, of course. If the cannibals treat this as some sort of shrine, they probably come here expecting to worship, not fight."

Lorenz Aeryson |

Lorenz nods. "I'm actually not that worried about the cannibals. I'm more worried about other things. Like that chupercaper that Aycenia was telling us about."
He turns to Aerys. "That, and some of you were really upset when we didn't come back that one night. I don't want to worry anyone like that again. But..." He sighs and looks warily up at the sky. "Well, whatever you all decide."

Mahjik the Flink |

Aerys nods. "I suspect we're safer here than we are most other places. Except Aycenia's grove, of course. If the cannibals treat this as some sort of shrine, they probably come here expecting to worship, not fight."
"Wise man would be as an Absalomian, when in Absalom. I think our ideas of worship, and theirs, might differ drastically. I would assume that they are as deadly in either way."

Douena nods. "They probably sacrifice people here," she says solemnly, "before they eat them. All those skulls weren't the captain's. But they'd bring their sacrifices with them," she goes on more cheerily. "I doubt they'd expect to find us here waiting for them."

Since nobody else has chimed in yet, I'm going to go ahead and assume you decide to spend the night here.
You set up a light camp as evening settles in. The rain continues to fall until well after dusk, and over the night it rains intermittently. What watch schedule would you like to use?
Day's XP: 240 each.
EVENING ROLLS:
Resistance spells on everyone at the hut.
Disease exposure 15% for those at the hut, 10% for those at Aycenia's grove:
Douena: 1d100 ⇒ 42
Lorenz: 1d100 ⇒ 16
Mahjik: 1d100 ⇒ 16
Makoa: 1d100 ⇒ 61
Aakif: 1d100 ⇒ 55
Gelik: 1d100 ⇒ 64
Ishirou: 1d100 ⇒ 49
Jask: 1d100 ⇒ 90
Sasha: 1d100 ⇒ 10
Soulwind: 1d100 ⇒ 8
Urza Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5 -- fail
Urza bit of luck re-roll: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17 -- pass
Aerys Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10 -- fail
Sasha Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 -- pass
Soulwind Fortitude: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 -- fail
Onset time for Soulwind: 1d3 ⇒ 2 days
Aerys damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Str
Urza is once again fighting off the disease. He takes no additional damage and will regain 1 point of Str overnight. However, he must still make a second Fort save to fight it off completely. Aerys has been hit quite hard by the ailment. Soulwind has contracted it, but it will be a couple days before it's noticeable.
RANDOM ENCOUNTERS:
Nighttime encounter 10%: 1d100 ⇒ 86 -- no encounter
Morning encounter 10%: 1d100 ⇒ 22 -- no encounter

Mahjik the Flink |

4977xp? Have mercy!
Mahjik takes Aerys by the hand, examining it closely. "Aerys; I think you've picked up the red fever too. Seems everybody is getting a turn these days. Urza? Are you doing better? Maybe it spreads from person to person rather than from person to everybody." Mahjik tries to help, but fails short in accomplishing anything of use.
Heal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
"Little one! Come have a look here - I think Aerys caught a bug. And I don't mean the edible kind."

Douena Trestleben |

4977xp? Have mercy!
I get 4933. Have I missed some someplace again?
Douena bustles over to have a look at the shivering woman. "It's being down here in this jungle again; we're just surrounded by a miasma of vapors wanting to make people sick," she complains. Heal 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Well, if we ever make 3rd level, I'm putting at least one rank in Heal, but it wouldn't help that roll. "Eep!" Douena takes a look, then leaps back in horror. "It's the Creeping Red Death!"

Mahjik the Flink |

Mahjik grins mischievously and then rears up a blank expression on his face. In a monotonous monotone he drones on his arms stretched out towards Douena as he slowly lumbers towards her: "You are the last one - but you too will succumb to the crimson mist."
Perform (mime) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
"Brraaaaainnsss..." he adds for good measure.

Aerys Mavato aka Navior |

Mahjik the Flink wrote:4977xp? Have mercy!I get 4933. Have I missed some someplace again?
I have you at 4933 as well. It's still very very close. You'll get the rest tomorrow, which guarantees you'll be third level when you go after the cannibals. :)
Aerys just nods in response to Mahjik's comment on her health. After Douena inspects her, she says, "I think I'll lie down for a bit. Wake me up for my watch." She gets up, stumbles over to the area you've set up for sleeping, and lies down.

Urza Sha'rahad |

Urza settles in for the night. If allowed, he will sleep through the night, trusting to their location to keep them safe. If awakened before Aerys, he will allow her to sleep to better fight the disease.
I had it at 5063 xp, but if the DM says otherwise...

Douena Trestleben |

After Urza and Aerys lie down, exhausted, Douena creeps up to the others. "There's four of us not sick. Shall we split the watches between us and let Urza and Aerys sleep? I'm worried about her going back tomorrow, and I think maybe it was a good thing she stayed. Walking through the night, as weak as she got, might have made her worse. Remember how bad Jask got when we were going to Aycenia's hill?"

Navior |

MORNING, 17 ERASTUS, 4710 (nineteenth day on the island)
The night goes by somewhat quietly (the constant chatter of monkeys that usually fills the jungle is somewhat subdued tonight). On Makoa's watch, he notices a dark shape flying across the sky to the east, probably the winged chupucabra aka Red Mountain Devil. It doesn't come anywhere near the group however, so is probably completely unaware of you.
Morning arrives along with a brief rain shower. You prepare a meager breakfast and then begin readying for the journey back to Aycenia's grove. Aerys's rashes are more noticeable, but she's not shaking as much as she was last night. She remains quiet though.

Lorenz Aeryson |

Lorenz starts to take the lead and then stops. "Mahjik, you reset one of those traps. I think you ought to lead the way. I really don't want to get spikes rammed into my chest again."
He keeps his bow out and ready and warily eyes the jungle around them. "I don't know why, but I really have a feeling we're going to run into some cannibals today."

Douena Trestleben |

Just before the party is ready to depart, Douena says, "Wait! I want to see something." Turning toward the deboned hut, she holds up her butterfly and says, "Looking for trouble, Desna." casting detect evil; she'll walk all around the building and go inside as well to examine it

Navior |

You set back out along the trail, making your way gradually down the hill, then back southwest along the side of the cliff. You make it back to the intersection where Douena disabled the trap in good time.
Douena Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Lorenz Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Mahjik Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Makoa Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Urza Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Aerys Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
There's no indication that anything here has been disturbed since you last past through here, so you quickly set out into the jungle.
Douena Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Lorenz Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Mahjik Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Makoa Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Urza Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Aerys Survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Makoa is easily able to find the route you took yesterday, which helps to speed up your journey a little, since a lot of clearing the way has already been done. By late morning, you arrive at the trail crossing the river. You carefully avoid the reset trap and then set to crossing the river. The heat of the day is starting to rise, but there's another hour left before the really hot hours set in.
Midday random encounter 15%: 1d100 ⇒ 26 -- no encounter, your luck holds out :)

Navior |

Assisting Douena, you swim across the river and then continue west down the trail on the other side. About 10 minutes later, you re-enter the jungle, taking care to cover your tracks, and continue southwest.
Douena Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Lorenz Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Mahjik Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Makoa Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Urza Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
Aerys Survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
You once again find your tracks from yesterday (this time, Lorenz is the one to spot them), helping to speed your journey up a little.
Do you wish to travel through the hot hours like yesterday, or wait them out? Given your good progress so far, you estimate that waiting the hot hours out would get you back at about the usual time you get back after a day's journey. Continuing on through the hot hours would get you back a few hours earlier.

Navior |

Aerys looks relieved to be stopping, although she still says little (unless spoken to) and remains quiet, staring off into the jungle for most of the time you remain there.
At last, the rain begins falling again about three hours later, cutting through the heat. You gather your things and set off once more.
Douena Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 3 = 7
Lorenz Perception: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (5) + 1 - 3 = 3
Mahjik Perception: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 - 2 = 16
Makoa Perception: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 1 = 17
Urza Perception: 1d20 + 5 - 3 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 3 = 11
Aerys Perception: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (8) + 1 - 3 = 6
Giant spider Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
You travel for about an hour, after which Makoa, Mahjik, and Urza notice a slight glimmering in the trees up ahead. It only takes a moment to realize that it comes from a huge web stretched out across a pair of trees. As they watch, a massive spider raises its head.
Douena Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Lorenz Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Mahjik Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Makoa Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Urza Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Aerys Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Giant spider Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Order: Aerys, Lorenz, Douena, Mahjik, Urza, Giant Spider, Makoa
There will be a surprise round during which only Mahjik, Makoa, Urza, and the spider can act.
SURPRISE ROUND
First Up: Mahjik, Urza, Giant Spider, Makoa.
The terrain is considered difficult terrain.
New Map "Spider Web" Note: The spider token actually blends in pretty well with the surroundings, so might be a bit hard to see on the map. It is a Large creature, currently in W-X 66-67.

Mahjik the Flink |

hahaha - the ones with the highest initiative don't get to go, the irony
Mahjik shuttles passed Makao to V65 before anybody else can act. His eyes are firmly set into the treelines; and as he approaches the others suddenly see some scrabbling motion that reveals the camouflaged body of a gigantic spider. Before it can fully turn to Mahjik his fist snakes between threads of sticky thread to hit the creature with a potentially disabling attack.
Attack, stunning fist DC 14 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Alas, it's a surprise round, so you only get one action.
Mahjik moves up towards the spider and prepares to attack it, while Urza casts his spell. As Mahjik reaches the spider, it contorts and sprays silky strands out at him.
Spider web ranged touch attack on Mahjik: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 -- hit
The sticky strands cover Mahjik's body, impairing his arms and legs and making it difficult to move. Mahjik is entangled.
Next Up: Makoa, Aerys, Lorenz, Douena, Mahjik, Urza, Giant Spider.

Makoa Wolf'sKin |

"Heh, wonder what eats you?" Makoa says as he eyes the spider and throws an axe it's way.
Throwing Axe:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 -4 if Mahjik counts as being in melee with it while entangled
Damage:1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Throwing Axe:1d20+3 -4 if Mahjik counts as being in melee with it while entangled
Damage:1d6+3
There is a -4 penalty, as Mahjik still threatens the spider (he can attack it with a -2 penalty).
Makoa throws his axe, but his attempts to avoid Mahjik, result in the axe going too high and getting caught in the spider's web.
ROUND 1
Aerys shakes off her lethargy and moves toward the spider (double move to U66).
Next Up: Lorenz, Douena, Mahjik, Urza, Giant Spider, Makoa, Aerys.
Map Updated

Lorenz Aeryson |

Unaware that there was even any danger to be aware of, Lorenz gasps in surprise as Mahjik is suddenly sprayed with spiderweb, before raising his bow to fire.
Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Realizing that Aerys, sick as she is, has run forward he shouts in alarm,
"Aerys! Be careful!"

Douena Trestleben |

"Heh, wonder what eats you?"
"Bleh. Not us, I hope," Douena responds. "I ate the snake, and I ate the lizard-on-a-stick, but I draw the line at giant spiders." She moves up behind the entangled Mahjik and carefully touches a non-stickified part of him. "Desna bless you," she says. Move to U64; Bit of Luck on Mahjik; he can use it to try to break free or to pummel the spider, as he sees fit.

Mahjik the Flink |

Mahjik grins as the webbing slows him down for a moment - but then almost too fast to see a series of powerful attacks erupt on the spider.
Attack 1 roll 1, stunning fist DC 14 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 2 = 21 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Attack 1 roll 2, stunning fist DC 14 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 2 = 14 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Attack 2 roll 1 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 2 = 3 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Attack 2 roll 2 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 2 = 16 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Critical confirmation, roll 1 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 2 = 20 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Critical confirmation, roll 2 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 2 = 2 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Edit: oops, forget every second damage roll - only the d20 rolls are doubled up from luck

Navior |

Giant spider Fortitude: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 -- fail
The webs are only a minor annoyance for Mahjik. He pounds into the spider, leaving dents in its abdomen. The spider reels and shudders, uncertain of its footing. The spider is stunned for 1 round.
Next Up: Urza, Giant Spider (no action due to stun), Makoa, Aerys, Lorenz, Douena, Mahjik.
Map Updated

Makoa Wolf'sKin |

Makoa quickly moves in when he sees Mahjik has stunned the spider and caused it to stay still. As large as it is he has little trouble trying to bite it...
Bite Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage:1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Finding purchase is much more difficult though, and his over sized teeth scrape across it's chitinous body.

Lorenz Aeryson |

Lorenz smoothly pulls another arrow from his quiver, draws it back in his short bow and lets fly.
Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Unfortunately, just as he is releasing the arrow an insect buzzes perilously close to his ear, startling Lorenz and sending the arrow flying wildly into the sky.
