At the moemetn Jo doesn't have much things to do, and Korak do not want to go fort he GOlem, So I suppose Jo ask for the two lowest tiers
Chimon Jivuran
30 hours is fine by me - we'll probably wanna take at least a day to book tickets and buy provisions. Also, it gives Chimon time to make more scrolls!
Knowledge (geography) Meraz Desert: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Knowledge (geography) Mana Wastes: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
"Mana Wastes . . . aren't those magic-dead? I think the Meraz Desert would be safer for Jo and I. Perhaps Talryn as well," Chimon muses, taking the list. "We'll look into this."
Rynjin
"Not exactly magic dead, though it is that in some places. More magic wild."
Chimon knows the Meraz Desert is in Qadira. It is a fertile ground for various religious cults, much to the consternation of Sarenrae's dervishes, who also call the area their home.
The Mana Wastes are a magic ravaged strip of land between the warring nations of Geb and Nex. The only settlement is the technologically advanced city of Alkenstar, which maintains strict neutrality between the two nations. It is home to any number of strange, dangerous creatures, and the Calikangs, lizard-like folk who breathe electricity and hope to one day "refill" the magic of the Mana Wastes, restoring them to normal.
Korak Fists of Fury
"Why is there a giant golem just wondering around in the desert? Doesn't it have a master or something to protect? Is it unaccompanied?"
Rynjin
"An interesting story, actually. A long time ago, an old wizard had set up his tower in the desert, away from everyone. He started finding bones buried under the dunes, and liked the look of them, so he crafted his guardian from their bones."
"After his allotted span of years the wizard died, as all amateur wizards do, but golems don't exactly age. Especially not when their pieces are millions of years old already, and preserved magically even further. It guarded the tower until the wind and sand ground the thing to dust. Once the tower was completely destroyed, his original orders no longer held, and it simply began wandering aimlessly."
"The locals have learned to stay away from it. It doesn't fight except in self defense, so it's safe enough to be around for anyone not actively trying to provoke it."
Korak Fists of Fury
"Does it have any ranged capabilities or unusual defenses?"
Jo.
Jo doesn't find the story interesting at all.
It sounds like a good target... - Jo says but his thought are really focused in how bad the heat of the desert will be for her hair.
Korak Fists of Fury
"Is it flying over and dropping stuff on it?"
Talryn Ironflesh
"No, but I'm partial to that plan as well. If our objective is capturing the Golem then we need something a bit more nuanced..."
"I propose we find out as much as we can about this Wizard and his old tower."
Korak Fists of Fury
"We have to capture it? Can't we just break it and let the man glue its pieces together? Isn't that what those bookish guys do in museums?" says Korak with a dubious tone. "This is a golem! It's not like we can knock it unconscious... And I certainly doubt we have a big enough leash to pull it around."
Talryn Ironflesh
"...which is why I propose we research as much as we can so we don't try to brute force this. As much as I look it, fighting is NOT my only purpose. Not anymore atleast." Talryn replies calmly.
Korak Fists of Fury
"Never mind... Destroying it could be done, but capturing it is a no go. Let's go after something else... Or... You know... Find another way to raise the money."
Talryn Ironflesh
Excuse me while I try to rile up Korak.
"Really Korak? I never took you for one to pass up a challenge. Huh."
Jo.
"Never mind... Destroying it could be done, but capturing it is a no go. Let's go after something else... Or... You know... Find another way to raise the money."
Killing it is still twice of the gold for killing the gorgon and the other lesser beast
Korak Fists of Fury
"Really Korak? I never took you for one to pass up a challenge. Huh."
"You should never take me up as one who is stupid and proud. One who passes up a challenge that isn't worth the risk? That I can be."
Chimon Jivuran
"Perhaps there'd be some lore to uncover in Absalom, Talryn. But if this beast really is so powerful, we might indeed be better off settling the issue with a lesser one."
Talryn Ironflesh
"Absalom eh? Quite the dangerous place for those in our profession. Lots of aspiring heroes running amok." Talryn comments.
"An option worth exploring though I admit."
Chimon Jivuran
"Might we seek something living underground?" Chimon asks. "I've always wanted to head an expedition into the Darklands."
Knowledge (geography) for monsters on the list that we could find down there?: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Korak Fists of Fury
"I do not know much about golems... I know that they can't be knocked unconscious, I know that they are immune to stuff that would kill mostly anything we've faced so far... And I know they are dangerous. Putting that aside, I do know a lot about the creatures that would provide fossils large enough to create this monster."(It's Kn(Nature) check to identify Dinosaurs, right?) "...And they were fearsome enough without the aid of whatever magicks the dead Wizard weaved into their bones... Now, if you have any suggestions of how to subdue, capture, cage and transport a 20ft monstrosity that never sleeps, I'm all ears."
I was going to roll Knowledge checks for the other creatures, but... They are so many. Too many dice codes to type. Just assume I take 10 on all of them. -.-'
Rynjin
Chimon has a vague notion (backed up by Salazar's certainty) that the Vemerak, and Intellect Devourers may live down there. Some of the others (such as Ogre Mages, Rakshasa, Denizen of Leng, and Gorgon) could POTENTIALLY be found there, but it's not their main habitat.
Jo.
Jo don't want to push to much, after all this whole thing is because she failing victim of the shade's spell.
You choose one of them then - she say to Korak
Korak Fists of Fury
"Dragging living creatures around is a pain in the ass... But it can be slightly less annoying if we can knock it out..." says Korak. "Is there anything in the list that bleeds and won't kill us with a flick of their wrist/tentacle/wing/whatever?"
i.e.: Something without SoD abilities...
Rynjin
*roll eyes* You're no fun.
"The Shira is a powerful creature, but has no way to kill you immediately like some of these can. Likewise the Rakshsasa, Intellect Devourer, Ogre Mage, Hellwasp Swarm, Denizen of Leng, and Hangman Tree."
"All of the less interesting specimens, really."
"As a note, if you don't mind increasing your debt to me slightly, I can provide you with a magic clasp you can use to transport the unconscious or bound creatures back here directly, bypassing the messy business of trekking across deserts and back to Myrial every time you go out there.."
Korak Fists of Fury
"And how 'slightly' would that be, exactly?"
Rynjin
"Approximately 500 per clasp. I've managed to bring the cost down considerably in recent years by trimming down the function and limiting their use to certain keyed people." he says with a smile.
"It may sound steep, a full 2/3 of the price of some of the cheaper monsters, but it significantly reduces your effort in returning the creature here safely, with no chance of escape, and taking it alive instead of dead."
Korak Fists of Fury
"Wait... Aren't we doing you a service? And wouldn't you get the clasps back anyway as soon as the creatures are teleported? Why the hell would you charge us for using a tool that makes our work FOR YOU easier and more effective? If anything, you should be offering it to us freely! That's the kind of shit that diamond barons pull on uncultured miners! 'You can work for me, and I'll pay you... You just have to rent your pick and shovel from me...'. Yeah... I'm not buying it!"
Rynjin
He shrugs.
"Your choice. The clasps are one-use only, so I'd be giving them to you at a loss. I'm wealthy, but I didn't get that way by tossing away coin"
He doesn't disagree with your "renting the pick and shovel" analogy, mind you.
Korak Fists of Fury
"I refuse that deal on principle. We are already paying all the travelling costs on our own... In fact, now that I think about it, hunting for monsters on far-away lands seems more and more like a horrible way to pay back our debts... I'm sure we can find another way to raise the money. Good luck finding someone else who is willing and capable of capturing and transporting any of these rare creatures."
Korak Fists of Fury
"As you wish... Keep your shovels and picks. I'd rather be 'whiny' than a fool."
Korak still has 1189gp left. If you can chip in, we can get the rest of the money. Or we just sell a cheap item and buy it back later if necessary. I don't mind travelling, but I refuse to be exploited like a slave-worker.
Jo.
Or we can try to kill Salazar :D...I, for some reason, think that JO have some 2k to spare, that cover it, I have to reread some post to see if that is true
Korak Fists of Fury
We can also go after the Fossil Golem... Drop stuff on it from out of his range... Kill it. Grab its bones, bring back to town and sell it to one of Salazar's rivals... Even if we only get half as much money as the Golem is worth, we'd still have enough to easily pay Salazar and still have lots of shiny gold coins left in our pockets... And we'd have the pleasure of saying "IN YOUR FACE!" to Salazar.
Korak Fists of Fury
I'd like to do it... Just not on the terms he's offering. :)
Korak Fists of Fury
Pffft... If he's pissed off by simple facts, he's got no right to call anyone "whiny"...
Korak Fists of Fury
You know what... I'll stop complaining. Korak goes along with whatever you guys decide.
Jo.
We'll get your money soon Salazar
I'd say lets go for the golem, it cost 125,000 tocreate one, somebody have to pay more than Salazar
Jo.
So, how can anyone take control of other people golems? 10 in kn arcane for 26 and if there is a library in Myrial Jo goes there or any bonus
