Thus continues the story of Krolmnite, Seph, Roland, Malarin and Roshach.
During the epic battle with The Stag Lord and his minions, the brave dwarven warrior fell, and though Roland used his preservative magics on the corpse to keep it from rotting (gentle repose), the unfortunate fighter remained dead. Akiros Ismort, former bandit and unlikely ally of the PCs, as well as the one remaining bandit, pledge their service to the PCs upon the defeat of the Stag Lord, and at their order begin to repair and renovate the castle.
The old man in the castle's cellar that Roland discovered, revealed to be the Stag Lord's father, escaped in the chaos and as the morning of the next day dawned, two things were revealed - that the Stag Lord's body was missing as well and Roland woke, unable to move. With their cleric disabled, but with a safer base of operations and as much food as they needed, the PCs find themselves in a strange, two-sided situation. On one hand, they're the victors and in a much better situation than before. On the other, they have one paralyzed friend and one dead friend.
What will you do?
STR Damage (from 4): 1d6 ⇒ 5 Paralyzed!
Roland Save vs. Disease, Day 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 success!
Roland Save vs. Disease, Day 3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 failure!
Roland Save vs. Disease, Day 4: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 failure!
Roland Save vs. Disease, Day 5: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 success!
Roland Save vs. Disease, Day 6: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 success! Disease shuck off, no longer paralyzed at 1 STR.

_Krolmnite_ |

Krolmnite sees the stag lord's body is missing and makes a mental note that someone must have taken the body but he turns to his 'friends' to tell them of his plan.
"I assume someone has taken care of the stag lord's body so I will be off to see if I can convince the Kobold tribe to join our cause. I believe they could be a valuable asset in our quest to explore and vanquish bandits and any future endeavors we may attempt. I say we regroup here after we have completed our own tasks and hopefully by then Roland will be back in good health."
I travel to the kobold cave by walking (in gnome form)

Taking off from the Stag Lord's fort and leaving his remaining fit companions to guard Roland, Krolmnite journeys across the wide plains of the Greenbelt alone to have a diplomatic meeting with the Draconic kobolds.
With potency and freedom he hasn't yet known in his adventures, Krolmnite is free to walk through the night and free to abandon the pretense of "hunting" or "eating".
Stupid humanoids. They think he's one of them.
On the second day of his walk, Krolmnite sees two creatures patrolling their territory - a massive owlbear with her cubs, which he is free to observe from a distance. The second encounter, however, is much more harrowing, and were it not for his innate poison immunity, potentially fatal. During his walk, during the night, a wyvern caught him unawares, snagging him in the side with a poisoned spine from the air. Panicked and injured, Krolmnite fled into a hollow, in which he hid from the wyvern for an hour or two before the wyvern flew away.
In any event, Krolmnite arrives, healthy and alive, on the third day, at the kobold's silver mine. The same forlorn sign is still there, and as Krolmnite approaches, a little red creature leaps up in front of the entrance from behind a rock. "Stop! What are you doing here?"

_Krolmnite_ |

Raising his hands to show he is unarmed and nonthreatening Krolmnite looks at the kobold with a look of confusion as he explains his intentions.
"I am from a group, the very same group that vanquished the mites, the bandits, and the Stag Lord. I am Krolmnite, centipede slayer, night walker, and leader of my party of explorers. My team was also the group that rescued Mikmek from the mites. We have a fortress that we liberated from a bunch of bandits, and I was hoping we could work out an alliance with our neighbors, the honorable Kobold tribe"

leinathan |

Krolmnite's extended explanation of who he is seems to confuse the kobold, but when he mentions that he was one of the ones that helped rescue Mikmek, the kobold's eyes grow wide. "OH! You the one. Yes! Come inside, come inside! Tartuk will want to talk to you!"

leinathan |

Krolmnite:
The kobold appears to be quite nervous as he answers. "Tartuk is...ah...Shaman. Yes, Tartuk is good spiritual leader."
As the pair walk into the kobold tunnels, several curious kobolds latch onto the pair like a train, and follow them deeper. These tunnels are much less densely-populated than their size would suggest, and Krolmnite only sees a few kobolds as he descends into the cave. After a minute or so, the pair (as well as the multiple trailing kobolds) reach a large common room. A hallway culminating in furs separates this room from the next, and another half-dozen kobolds sit or stand variably in this room. Standing in the center of the room is a black-scaled kobold wearing a bone crown. At your entrance, he cries out, "Stop! Nakpik, what is an intruder doing in these caverns?"
Roland: You are paralyzed for days 1, 3, and 4, but because you succeeded on the save during days 2 and 5, you can act as though you had 1 STR. On day 6, you have 2 STR and you no longer have the disease, and it takes 8 more days to fully recover from the disease. We can, however, do a time-lapse thing and have you do whatever you're doing except at least 6 days later.
Back at the fort, Roland tosses depressedly in his sleep, only waking during lucid and potent moments to cast gentle repose on the dwarf's body.
Seph and Akiros keep watch for him, most of the time, although animals and other wild beasts seem to have learned to avoid the fort.

_Krolmnite_ |

Bowing down, with his hands outstretched to show he is not armed Krolmnite introduces himself.
"I am Krolmnite, leader of the band of adventurers who slayed the mites, rescued Mikmek, recovered the holy statue, and returned your spears. We have set up at a fortress nearby and I am here seeking an alliance between my people and this noble Kobold tribe."

leinathan |

The soot-scaled kobold just stares at Krolmnite for a time, his eyes bugging out and his jaws working, to show that he's thinking. Then he approaches the gnome.
Leaning in to speak to the bowed gnome's ear, he whispers, "Alliance...means adventurers help kobolds, yes?"

leinathan |

"I...I don't know!" The kobold is actually close to the gnome's height, if they both stand up straight. The kobold might actually be a little taller. "Shaman Tartuk just means bad things for the tribe! Holy statue cursed tribe, he says. He can make us turn yellow and die!"
At that, the furs down the stone hallway part and a purple kobold steps down the hall. "What, Sootscale?" it croaks with a grin. The black-scaled kobold, apparently named Sootscale, turns worriedly and responds. "Uh, nothing, Shaman Tartuk! We have a guest!"
The purple kobold cranes its neck to see Krolmnite, and just for a moment, its eyes grow wide. Then its face returns to being calm and passive, and it addresses Krolmnite. "So I see. What business do you have with us?"

_Krolmnite_ |

Krolmnite bows again deeply, his chin almost hitting the floor before he looks up and responds.
"Hello Shaman Tartuk, I am Krolmnite and I come here seeking an alliance between the Kobolds and my band of adventurers. We are the very same adventurers who slayed the mites, rescued Mikmek, and recovered the holy statue." said Krolmnite standing back up. "I was just talking to Sootscale here to find out who I should be talking to. It is an honor indeed to meet the great shaman Tartuk."

leinathan |

The purple Shaman looks Krolmnite from head to toe as he bows and offers alliance. He seems pleased by the flattery, but a frown still plasters across his face. "You defiled our holy statue with your scale-less hands...you should die for such a travesty."

_Krolmnite_ |

Looking confused, Krolmnite responds "No one from my band of adventurers touched the statue. Once we found it Mikmek picked it up and it didn't leave his possession. We merely located it and escorted him back to the tribe to ensure his safety and the safety of your holy statue. No disrespect was intended." Krolmnite pauses before asking "If I may ask, where is Mikmek?"

_Krolmnite_ |

A look of astonishment appears on Krolmnite's face. "I would never take advantage of kobolds, all I want is to, on behalf of my band of adventurers, extend our friendship and possibly services for the sake of a mutually beneficial alliance." Krolmnite pauses before continuing "And as you can probably see, I am not exactly one of the 'big folk'." Krolmnite chuckles at his joke.

leinathan |

"Hah! Sootscale..."deal" with this one. I don't want to see him when I come out again. If you don't...I may just have to put you on the altar next!"
The purple kobold walks away with a flourish, going back into his fur-bordered room. Sootscale leans close to Krolmnite again. "I don't know what to do! Should I kill you, like he says?"

_Krolmnite_ |

"Escort me out of the cave so I can escape, and that way if he asks what happened tell him that you killed me outside so as not to get my 'filthy blood' all over your home." Krolmnite whispers. "I will return with a few friends to take care of your shaman problem."

leinathan |

"Good idea.", agrees the kobold, and escorts the gnome outside. The Chief forbids any kobolds from watching, and when they get outside, he shouts at Krolmnite for a few moments about being an "infidel" or a "kobold-hater" before swinging his weapon around a bit.
Then he allows Krolmnite to leave, whispering, "Okay, run! Get out of here!"
Next thing?

_Krolmnite_ |

"We will return." Krolmnite said as he used his longsword to make a small cut on the palm of his left hand and let some of his blood drip onto the chief's weapon."That should fool him." Krolmnite traveled back to the fortress to get some reinforcements, being cautious of any creatures or people he might come across as he traveled day and night not bothering to hunt or sleep.

_Krolmnite_ |

Hurriedly Krolmnite explains the situation. "I went to the Kobold cave in order to form an alliance, but their chief has been usurped by an evil shaman and I was begged to help get rid of the evil shaman. Now I don't think I can do it alone so I was hoping you all (Seph, Roland, and Akiros) would assist me." Krolmnite exclaimed. "He has been killing his subjects and has no interest in any friendship between us, in fact I suspect he might try to attack us. I also saw no sign of Mikmek, I can only hope he still lives."

leinathan |

Roland, "Bull's Strength" is a 2nd level spell, yet you have it prepared in a 1st-level slot. Re-prepare that slot. Actually, re-prepare your spells for going into the Kobold Caves.
Akiros puts a fist to his chest and bows. "With your permission, perhaps I can lend some aid. I still must prove my worth to you, after all."
Seph, on the other hand, offers to remain behind to guard house with Malarin and the remaining bandit.
Gathering together their belongings, this new threesome leaves the Stag Lord's Fort once again, their destination again the kobold caves.

leinathan |

Don't worry about food, there is effectively infinite food in the Fort, and I'm assuming that you just took enough to feed yourselves while about.
Arriving back at the kobold caves, the little kobold guard out front simply shrieks at the humanoids' arrival - he's seen Krolmnite before, and the gnome is supposed to be dead. He ducks into the caves.
Also, I'm assuming that in the intervening days of travel, Roland prepared more lesser restoration and cured himself of all of the damage. Roland is back to full healthiness!

_Krolmnite_ |

Yelling into the cave "You thought you could kill me?!? I AM KROLMNITE!! I HAVE BEEN SENT BACK BY THE GODS AND I HAVE BROUGHT A FEW FRIENDS OF MINE AS WELL!" Taking another deep breath, he yells at the top of his lungs "GET OUT HERE TARTUK SO WE MIGHT SMITE THEE WITH OUR HOLY WRATH!!!!!"

In response to Krolmnite's threat and Krolmnite's taunt, there is only silence.
Well, only for a few moments. Then there is copious chattering in Draconic and the pattering of many, many small feet. A dozen kobolds charge out of the cave, spears and daggers at the ready. At their head is Chief Sootscale. They spread out in a semicircle. The Chief speaks up. "He's tolded us to kill you. I don't think we can refuse."

_Krolmnite_ |

"If we all turn against him he has no chance, but if you fight us now you will be fighting your best chance to escape from Tartuk. How many more must die for you to turn against him? And if we fall who will help your reclaim your throne? Fight with us so that you may be free and not have to live under the tyranny of a cruel dictator." Krolmnite says in his most inspiring voice.

Akiros' sword is out of its sheath as quick as lightning as the kobolds charge them, but as the encounter turns to wordplay he adds his own voice to the mix.
"Yes. You do not want our ire, but with our friendship, you may yet return to prominence in the region."

The kobold horde pauses at the words of the humanoids. Sootscale speaks up again. "You mean...you help kobold kill Tartuk?"

leinathan |

Obviously pleased, as is evidenced by his massive grin, Sootscale just has one more question, which he doesn't even complete. "But what about the - " his question, however is interrupted. A great roar sounds from inside the cave, and a red dragon squeezes out of the cave's entrance, roaring and breathing flames everywhere. The kobolds scatter, screaming and running. The dragon rears in the cave entrance, staring at the PCs with a hateful glare.
The dragon stands still, keeping with its hateful glare, but as that happens, the purple kobold winks into sight, throwing necromantic magic at Akiros.
