Born and raised in a society of many races, Seph grew up with a human father and elf mother who had met through their time serving in the town guard. While humans and elves got along, they did have their differences. Being a half-elf, he saw many sides of people he interacted with, some good while others not so much. While humans and elves had their own talents, Seph wanted to prove he could amount to both sides. Following in his parents footsteps, Seph joined the guard, and eventually moved to the military ranks. He routinely would venture into the wild forest lands and became quite adept at its challenges. He found himself outperforming the rest of the men, showing skill in combat and survival. This was not met without resistance, however.
The other soldiers in his group met his talents and bloodline with prejudice. Rather than admiring his accomplishments, Seph was treated as an underling, sent to do mundane tasks others couldn't be bothered to do. This took a toll on Seph mentally as he eventually made a crass decision. He left his group in the middle of the night during his watch shift and headed off on his own. His reasoning: Let them see how much they really needed him. Upon returning home, Seph learned that his patrol had not returned and was later found all dead. Brought in and questioned by his superiors, Seph had only this to say, "They felt that my skills weren't needed, so I let them learn how wrong they were."
After a long goodbye to his parents and promising to keep in touch, he left the city and his home behind, saying he would find a place where his aptitude would be appreciated.
