I don't really like explaining things off-screen.
I do it when I've clearly failed to convey something important, but Tomoyo, especially, is a tangled web of rules and externally imposed assumptions that needs to have more player interaction before "what's up with Tomoyo" is really answered properly.
Suffice it to say, Tomoyo is Sakura's tears/'envy' pact trinket. There are rules governing how trinkets can be used, and what they do when they are used by anyone other than the pact holder. There are also rules about what Tomoyo had to be in order to fulfill her role as a Gemini trinket, as a trinket for the Dolls domain, and as a tears trinket. There are also other things involving Miku Sakura, Miku Hotaru, and Kyou Oshiro which make things even more complicated. All of those things have come together to make Tomoyo who she is, or at least govern how she reacts to things.
If the right combination of NPCs makes it to noon, we'll find out more.
In the meantime, I've gotta write DK's entrance.

Also, snipped so it doesn't just fall off into oblivion and deleted old post to make sure Bastian got the 1k ;)
So... on the topic of season 2, depending on how things go, I may be interested in making a second character to either play in addition to or replace Sora. I'm not certain, really. But I had two ideas going on:
Chimeric Hero X
Temporal Anomaly X
Thoughts?
Also, odd quirk: Page 20 now only has 49 posts... at least for now.
Also, Also! I don't want the answers just handed to me! I want to untangle the puzzle! Moar Mystery!
BastianQuinn |
"Kyou Oshiro"? *ears perk*
This is why I asked if Kyou was maybe named after a grandmother.
** spoiler omitted **
I mean, strictly speaking, I'm only reminding you of what happened to Naiad.
Also, =3
Chimeric Hero would be my vote, but I'm biased.
I'm all for new/more characters. I play more than one character >.>
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
On the topic of Chimeric Hero, I have a couple of ideas, and any of the three (or a combination thereof) 'classes' could fit. The overall concept is to make 'Yokai' a focus, because we don't use a lot of it and it seems like a really interesting direction to go; that's part of why I like it!
I have a character concept of a paladin-esque character who borrows aspects from Yokai to succeed. I feel like that could work well for Evoker, Magical Girl, or a more literal form of 'Hunter'. I don't at all know which way I want to go, though. Or even if I just want to start as a bystander (perhaps in one of the current situations going on, and 'Awaken' by Season 2. Making the character a minor character in season 1 could be great for tying them in.
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
Oh, Oh. Junpei. You just made so many things Tenshi was recently told click. Oh no. Oh wow... XD
I love those little 'literary epiphanies'.
BastianQuinn |
The 'actual plot' is about to surface, and it's going to be awful awesome.
What does it mean to you to be a girl?
What does it mean to you to be a brother?
What does death mean to you?
The rest is a thematic level of access to "magic" as well as different lists for the Magic, Trauma, and Hope shifts. Anyone can make a Yokai trinket, it's just not easy to do on purpose.
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
I think that ideally I should strive to answer the other questions for the character first and then come up with that last line later, the one that differentiates which group they fall in with. So far, I'm leading towards Evoker just because of the answer I have for that question.
Basic assumptions: University Student, which allows for a lot of the ties that fell off the board as 'University Students' slipped away to come up more. Character should be sporty and outgoing. Thinking of Kendo Club I recognized the character might be part of the club but focus more on Kenjutsu than Kendo; problematic because the two don't overlap perfectly, but also highlights that they prefer 'the classics', perhaps, and highlights that the 'art' is more important than the 'way'. I actually more like the idea of going for a chinese style than a japanese one, though, due to the 'Five Animals' archetypes of southern chinese styles. Perhaps she's trying to teach aspects of her chinese styles to the Kendo students? Iunno!
It could also be a character that could be tied into Pele somehow. How exactly, I don't know at all!
Reading up on various things (internet rabbit holes!), it's looking like there's a really good mythological anologue: It's very common for weapon masters to claim that their skills were divinely gifted or taught by kami.
Name: Yun Jian (Last Name Here)
Ideal(s): To be a brother is to foster improvement within those you choose as your family. Death, as life, is a journey; the transition is the difficult part to get right. Best to be avoided unless you can die well. To be a girl is to endure against great odds, and surpass the expectations of others lest you disappoint.
Fear: Stagnation
Wish: Respect
More to read, more to come? Iunno! We'll see. Rabbit holes everywhere...

I definitely like the idea of my new character having been there for The Happening™ that was Juno's departure. It also adds ties to the cafe which has played at least a minor role (okay, some pretty big ones) within the literature, which adds more social ties to the present setup.
Do you like what I have, do you need more? In particular do you have more leading questions that I can try to answer during my rabbit-hole-binge?
BastianQuinn |
Having studied this foreign sword art, and being a fanatic of Kami-gifted arts, which Yokai did Yun follow, and where did they take to hiding after their shelter was revealed?
What does Yun study at college?
What was Yun doing at the Cafe? do they work there? Were they visiting alone, or with a potential SO?
How does Yun make money?
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
Oh, oh! Some things you might find cool: The Five Animals have associated emotions and organs; in particular deer and tiger seem to fit with some schemes you already have going!
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
The second question is tougher. It's a lot easier to go with something I understand decently well, like literature or the like. Less so with things I know less about, and many of the things that seem fitting are things you'd likely have more than a passing interest in if you start studying it in a collegiate level. Anthropology/History (Especially local) have really big draws for me here, just because of the setting, but they're things I'm not particularly good at.
I think the easiest answer for the last two link together, forming a loose bond with Junpei. She might work there less enthusiastically than some of the others; perhaps rather than being a waitress, she's a cook? Probably still forced to wear a costume she'd consider embarassing but taking pride in her work, regardless? It could have been a good time for a shift change!
Tiger is also associated with the Liver and the liver makes bile, and bile is an Anger trinket, right? Which Tiger is associated with :P
BastianQuinn |
I just mean the Crane, especially, hits all the hallmarks of a tear trinket without any worrysome moles to whack.
I have had some of those classes, and I have a few friends in related fields. The campus I work at doesn't have that degree, so I won't have as much to draw on as I did with psyche. The entire Anastasia group of lore comes from a class I took on Slavic folklore.
That gives you connections to Azu and the rest of Junpei's crew.

I like the idea of her father being a businessman that managed to capture the eye of a Selkie woman who eventually chose the sea over her life trapped as a doted-upon trophy wife. It could drive a minor wedge between Yun and her father; each blaming the other for her mother's leaving, but none of the three truly at fault. It gives her a natural connection to spirit creatures (she partially is one!). That could make Zhou her uncle maybe? He seems business-y. I might be misreading him, though.
Selkies are also naturally transformative creatures. While Selkies don't really take place in eastern folklore as far as I can see, Seals are everywhere. And Seals are cute.

So... Paizo is making me nervous.
Should we talk about maybe moving to another site?
Tavern Keeper is an option...

Mostly, I'm concerned about formatting and interconnectedness. For one, here it's quite easy to reach out and fire off info at everyone else - on TK, typical play seems to be set up so that we'd need to be a little more conscientious about keeping track of what everyone's sending to everyone else. There's just more separation in general.
Have to learn the new text formatting. Don't see a way to make spoilers - not a simple one, at least. Among other things, lacking those would be unhelpful if you wanted to continue to keep everyone's perception of the same things separate and distinct the way that it has been here. Some of that would just be addressed by people being in separate scenes, but if we're in the same place? That might be a problem.
Oh, and posts take up more screen space, since less of the horizontal space is used for text and the spacing between lines there is greater than over here. A three line paragraph here would take up five lines over there.
Don't get me wrong, though. There's plenty I like about Tavern Keeper from some poking around, and I'm not going to complain about going over if Paizo continues to be a pain like this, but there are some aspects of play here I'm rather fond of that I'm uncertain about how would they'd translate over to Tavern Keeper.
Mainly all the stuff spoilers are used for.
I guess it's kinda nitpicky, but I just like some of these little details and I want them to stay.
I will object to the lack of search functions, though. They just do not exist. There's no place where all of a character's posts are collected together either.
Finding things is going to be a lot more painful on there, I'm pretty sure of it.

I'm against the transition, but wouldn't be against trying if everyone else wanted to, or we needed to. I just don't know how well I'd reliably check another site besides paizo.

I have a lot more time to post now (I was posting from my phone, earlier). I just wanted to say that I've been a member here for literally years, and in the time I've been posting, this is perhaps the third major hiccup that they've had that wasn't announced. The first and this time I don't know what was up, but the second time was when they did the humble bundle, which basically destroyed their bandwidth.
So far Paizo has been an extremely reliable service, and that's coming from someone who suffers minor withdrawal from reclicking refresh seventeen times an hour and seeing the constant loading screen or goblins-destroyed-the-server page.

I'm just trying to cope with this insufferable heat for the most part. It decided to come in right after the crashes stopped plaguing the site, and when you put it all together it's been kind of obstructive to updating things.
I'm going to try and update my own game first before the day's out. It's been long enough. Once I have that down, then I can move onto this and all the others.
So, that's what's the hold-up with me.
Dear lord, I HATE warm weather. It's especially bad at the moment.
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
:) I actually pushed my scene forward a bit more. I'd originally intended to see if someone else had a talent or skill that applied instead of just 'fixing it with magic', but realized that if someone did, you'd have probably had them offer up that skill if they were going to, already. :)
So, I'm just waiting for the next 'round', as it were.

Just realized the cars were on the wrong side of the road. >.<
I'm excited to find out how DelphicKnight Vs Kaguya plays out. Not to mention that other thing that's happening with Yuki.
For y'all's benefit I'ma just roll some stuff real quick...
Sucker Punch: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 -1(charging) +1(IDEAL) = 10
Licorice Whip: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 +1(ring) +1(moon) +1(eclipse) = 10
Stay Calm: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
Long Shot: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6+1(full clip) +1(Big Iron) +1(IDEAL) +1(FEAR) = 10
Cloying Vines: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 +1(trinket) +1(domain) +1(target) +1(eclipse) -2(Drain) +2(alter) = 13

Just making sure I've got this right: Naiad's plan is to shoot Tomoyo at Aratani, have Zeek jump, and therefore sling Atarani into the moon?
Without a roll, that will be: You are able to do something on a very small scale, but it will have consequences later on. OR You manage to score a Hit, but you are worse for wear. Depending on if you're trying to end the fight (for now), or just score a 'hit'.
Cresting Tide Naiad |
Sorry, was at work, and work is a no-internet zone
The idea was to 'grab' Tomoyo, whip her at Aratani, use Aratani as a fulcrum to launch Zeek at the moon as he jumps, with Tomoyo/Zeek being a 'ratflail' 'whip'.
And willing to take the hit but be worse for wear, that's a thing Naiad's developing a habit of doing...
Cresting Tide Naiad |
The distinction here is whether or not this battle continues here and now.
Are you taking steps to 'defeat' Aratani, or just making her go away for now?
I really don't see this 'making her go away' because she's the pivot point for the shenanigans Naiad is trying, so it'd fall into 'defeating' between the two options.

If you're familiar with Fate nomenclature, I think this is an overcome action; they aren't seeking to defeat the foe, but rather to disrupt an advantage (the nearer moon) while also protecting people by putting it back where it goes. So, all things considered, maybe an unorthodox defend, if I'm not misinterpreting that the goal is to reduce damage while bringing about balance?

Thank you for putting it a bit more direct and to the point.

It's worth noting: For all the rawrface Sora has for Aratani, she doesn't actually want to see her hurt. Likewise, I'd like to point out that at no point have I, the player, said that she was a bad person. Tenshi just has a lot of problems with projecting. :)

I finished the Blades in the Dark stuff on Youtube. I think I enjoyed Hyena as DM significantly more than AF, but that might also have been that I really liked AF's characters. Things also seemed really harsh under AF's control. Like, I feel like at the beginning, Hyena kept kinda crushing the team, but then he wound up in a better spot, allowing some tough wins, rather than everything being a really rough hit. That came back with AF and never went away. Still kind of sad to see it end. (At least for now. Always hate running out of the thing I'm doing :p)
Listening to more Girl by Moonlight, and I think a lot of stuff has gotten a lot better. I liked the 'how you're most vulnerable is how the world hits you. If you're not very hopeful it crushes your heart, if you're not very calm it spazzes you out, if you're not very strong it bullies you.'
I also really like this idea that Corvus is the real face and Amy is the mask that she uses to be what the others need. They haven't super played that up but I really like that idea.
