An important note about stepping sideways, in the frame that I use it in most often... that probably isn't an inherent understanding, and I'm a derp for using it so much without explaining it.
The world is parallel to the spirit world, which is parallel with an infinite number of dimensions that mages call the Umbra. In World of Darkness, most were-creatures can inherently 'step sideways' from the realm of our reality into the other half of their reality. So when I use the phrasing 'steps sideways', it's intentionally meaning to slip between worlds/dreams/locations. :)
So basically, I'm just stealing a term. :)

... I'm going to pull out. I loved the idea and even the execution, but I just can't seem to find the will to play this game. Maybe it's just the number of people, I don't know. Please bot Sakura until you can off her in a suitably Puella-esque fashion. And please remove me from the list of active players. Have a good game everyone!
Masterful Seer Tiresias |
Oh god... I'm so sorry for being late i'll get my answer up in no time. I still don't completely understand what is going on with me with the toddler... like that toddler is there, right? next to tiresias? Dear me I shouldn't have made a character smarter than I am.
P.S. I don't think it is... it's a faded toddler so probably a vision? Welp let's go cause someone's death.
Diamond Sovereign Juno |
A couple questions: one, is it immediately apparent to me that the message is from Tiresias and is something I can respond to, and two, is the pile of dead friends specifically members of the magical girl troupe or is Yuki included in the bodies?
BastianQuinn |
Yuki is definitely a corpse in the vision. Since I just made you all deaf, I'm going to say you're all aware that you can communicate between each other through this link, even though it's not that clear in the fiction. Like you all got an email with a huge CC list. You can each contact any living Magical Girl in the region.
Cloud Watcher Tenshi |
Are the 'Dreamers' in the region, in terms of @All?
Junpei Sagara |
To be clear, if he did anything, I was just expecting more magic. The idea that he might be on the network didn't occur to me - the logic was just that if they were capable of making it, they'd be equipped to set up communications with someone else too.
This is interesting, though. I really wasn't expecting that.

So... time to gush a bit.
I'm not sure whether my signals are being picked up, or I'm being played like a fiddle. I know that a lot of the time I'm at a loss for what to do, then just have Sora jump in a direction that feels right. And so far, it seems to have worked out well. But that's not fully the point here - it's more that somehow, you're able to cohesively build on things that I'm throwing (and I'm guessing other people are throwing) completely out of left field.
But the real 'gushing' is more in the fact that every time I throw out some sort of minor pop culture nod, you seem to pick up on it. It's -really- nice to have that unspoken back-and-forth. Now it's not as unspoken, I suppose, but it's really worthy of merit.
Sora, as a character, is modeled on a lot of different things - she's honestly more of a collage than any other character I've ever made, to my knowledge. Mostly, because every time I move into the character, I slide a little more of my geekdom into her being. It's becoming a lot of fun to portray her, and add more and more to things.
It hadn't been my intention to go all Kingdom Hearts inspired on things, but I just wanted to say, I'm looking forward to a Dive to the Heart moment. If that's the direction it goes... but for now, we wait and see where Tenshi decides to go with things. Gotta compile the feels first. :)

Can I just say, Juno is my favorite character to have roll low. She's just our resident unintentional supervillain, and it's so great how the rolls keep reinforcing that.
Some table talk @Juno:
It wasn't necessary to roll to attack with the naginata safely.
• Juno's ring is at 2 drain at the moment.
• Brigit is inside a nightmare field right now.
• "Wealth" doesn't automatically grant any synergy for "attacking", it would take some fictional positioning to trigger.
The lower end of the "attack" move reads:
• 2-5: You are unable to penetrate the enemy’s defenses, but if you put yourself in harm’s way you can make an opening for an ally. If you wish you can take 1 Trauma or 1 Magic to give an ally +1 to their next roll in this battle.
• 6-8: You manage to score a Hit, but you are worse for wear.
If we don't change anything, You're looking at the 2-5 option above. If you use Fate to reroll, you can also attempt to re-describe the spell and hope for better synergy. If you didn't realize you could just stab her, we can ignore the roll.
The big differences between this roll and the other 6 that killed Paresh are:
• Brigit is transformed
• You aren't reacting to your fear.
For reference, Trauma will be getting stabbed, and Magic will be some tummy noms. I don't want to be too much more descriptive and spoil it, but you should know the difference.
At the moment, you should have 0 Magic. You got haunted by Chrysanth on the way to the mall on your last Shift. I do need to send you the choices for Trauma Shifts though... Oh, hold on, that was Yuki's ring. You're good.

Any info that I might want to know here that I'd have access to? Because these lot seem like they'll be fun to deal with. Just so I have it clear for when I'm trying to get people over here, I'm in the basement, right?
What's my drain looking like right now, actually? With the scenario described, my domain to work with, and memories of a certain rhythm game in mind, I am so tempted to hijack the beat and turn this into to something akin to one of the minigames.
BastianQuinn |
Airi (who has received a subliminal in-character hint to her name) is in the basement back stage, and has three trinkets at-hand:
• An iPod / Card Disk with 3 Drain that's good at manipulating other magical effects. The band is filling the field with cards, but you'll have to stall with a monologue to get time to read them through. (if that's a thing you want to do)
• A Repair Kit / Shock Glove with 2 Drain that's good at mach punches, sonic booms, and knockout strikes.
• A Pool skimmer / Claymore with 2 Drain that's good at breaking defenses, cleaving charges, and lethal lancing.
With three Trinkets, there's nothing stopping you from attempting a combination attack yourself. You're welcome to roll separately with each Trinket in one post, but there will be hella Magic and risk. It would be a good way to get the upper hand here, though. You can do a combination attack with one roll (depending how you describe it the roll could benefit from extra bonuses and leave you options for how much Drain to take and in which Trinket)
I will cryptically warn that his Domain is "Conquest."
There has been nothing to suggest she is a Magical Girl. She's probably got a card on your disk, but you'll have a hell of a time finding it among his spam effects.
Any other questions?

One roll? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but can I get some more details on how that works out and what I need to do?

If you describe using each of your trinkets in your spell and roll once, you can benefit from all of the trinket synergies. The roll will only count toward one spell effect, and will produce one drain, and I'll give you options based on which trinket you want to take the drain. The trinket that's being drained will be the Drain penalty that's applied.
Eg:
Brigit is attacking with both knives, but is only making one attack. She describes how the fire knife is a feint, and the shadow knife is the true attack. She drains the shadow blade and benefits from its version of her title effect. She gains the fire dagger's trinket bonus, and can even make a case for a second domain bonus because she's using a borrowed trinket.
Btw, if I haven't shown you how your title interacts with a trinket, feel free to make something up. I'll figure out how it effects stuff mechanically.
Naiad: your dogtags/breastplate act as a buffer between you and overwhelming effects.
Tiresias: your book can sustain spells for later reference.
Airi: your ipod/disc makes metamagic discrete and tactile.
Tenshi: your dreamcatcher/chakram can scan the waking for nightmares.
Chell: your book lets you read any language and will guide you toward safety.
Juno: Your ring gives you a voice of commamd. Mundane people will follow explicit demands.
PS: the fight between Iskandar and Airi was always going to be guitar hero. Since like, June.
