claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Ghûn |

Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Giant GM |

Orett crushes Daardra's wolf with his stony fists. Engwarth's eagle and Ghun's blade flail about ineffectively.
Daardra DC15Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 fixes Engwarth's wolf with her eye, but is studiously ignored by the cunning canine.
Engwarth
1d20 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 6
Ghun
1d20 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 2
Both wolves snap and yarl but cause no harm.

Orett |

Orett will turn to Engwarth's and strike with flurrying fists
"Don't worry Engwarth, I will help you."
ferocious fists: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
ferocious fists 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Ghûn |

power attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
dam: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Engwarth |

Unless the dogs are carrying backpacks full of treasure continue on our way to Sanctuary.

Engwarth |

Inspect the body.

Engwarth |

Rodrik’s.

Giant GM |

The wounds on Rorik's wrists clearly indicate a suicide. Moreover his hopeknife was found covered in blood by the side of his corpse and appears to be the blade he used to slit his wrists. There is no other apparent wound on the man's body.

Engwarth |

“Well done Daardra, I had been told that elves have keener senses than the rest of us but never had occasion to see the truth of it.”
Is the knife present? If so, does it have the inscription mentioned on the receipt?

Giant GM |

As is the custom for burials in Trunau, Rodrik's hopeknife lies by his body ready to be buried with him.
As you examine the body the head priestess of Iomedae Tyari Varvatos approaches you, accompanied by her frequent 'companion' the paladin Brantos Calderon. Tyari-Such a sad day for Trunau. Rodrik was a steadfast protector of this town and loved its people dearly. Now that he is gone the town will be more vulnerable to raids and attacks, although the life of a righteous man is valuable for the righteousness alone.
Have any of you see Katrezra? I had meant to talk to him about Rodrik's death as they were good friends. In fact, they had been meeting here quite frequently over the last few weeks. I kept hearing them mutter about ghosts, half-orcs, hopeknives, and white swords? I had no idea what any of that meant and thought maybe Katrezra was having more visions or Rodrik was writing a new story in his journal.
Katrezra's been gone since Rodrik was found dead. He left his bed neatly made, so I can't imagine foul play and I know he can't have gotte far with his crippling condition. If you see him, tell him to come back home. Whatever is bothering him, I'm sure we can work it out together.

Engwarth |

Appraise: 1d20 ⇒ 3
“I will keep an eye out for him.”

Engwarth |

Return to rooms for the night unless anyone else has ideas.

Giant GM |

The next day you head out looking for Omast and after almost half a day's search find him at the South tower of Trunau's inner wall. He is dangling from the tower's battlements by a rope tied to his belt and appears to be futilely trying to wash away some graffiti. A small crowd, of which you are a part, has gathered below the tower to view the spectacle.

Engwarth |

What is the graffiti?

Engwarth |

Does a pair of white crosses or swords hold any special meaning or association that we are aware of?

Giant GM |

You remember Tyari Varvatos saying something about them:
"Have any of you see Katrezra? I had meant to talk to him about Rodrik's death as they were good friends. In fact, they had been meeting here quite frequently over the last few weeks. I kept hearing them mutter about ghosts, half-orcs, hopeknives, and white swords?"

Engwarth |

Muttering to himself.
"Katreza, what do you know and where have you gotten off to?"
Does it look like Omast might be done anytime soon? If he is going to be a long while, we can spend the time looking for Katreza.
Does Engwarth recall anyone besides the deceased visiting Katreza at Sanctuary?

Engwarth |

It's hard to tell from the street, but Omast looks....inebriated? It looks like there are a few other guardsmen trying coax him down from his precarious perch dangling from the rope.
Engwarth has not seen Katrezra since the day before the murder.
Engwarth is trying to remember who else may have visited Katrezra at Sanctuary. Who in town Katrezra might be friendly with?

Engwarth |

diplo: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
"Hey Omast! Come down here! I need to talk to you! We can have a mug of ale while we talk!"

Giant GM |

Obviously Katrezra and Rodrik were good friends. You know he also hung out quite a bit with other half-orcs.
Omast peers down at you-Engwarth, is that you? Ale, heh? As long as you are buying. He lets out the rope and quickly lowers himself down to the ground. Now, about that ale.... His legs wobble, but if it's from being up in the air or from the booze you can't quite tell.

Engwarth |

Walk slowly in direction of nearest tavern.
"How are you doing since Rodrik's death? Do you know what he was investigating before he died? We need to make sure his work gets done."

Giant GM |

Omast begins to cry with drunken sobs-Poor, young Rodrik, that magnificent bastard. Did you know that I found his body? Well I was the first guard on the scene anyways. Desna's sour teets but my luck is bad! It's my fault of course. Had I just been there...
Investigating, what's that then? Who knows. The lad was such a free spirit. Always from one thing to the next with his writing and all. I'd say he was up to finding out why all these half-orc vermin are swarming about Trunau these days. No offense Ghun, you are one of the few good ones I suppose; but more an more of them have been showing up in town recenlty.
They threaten the livelihoods and well-being of worthy Trunauans I say! And those are the ones that are willing to even do some meaningful work, unlike Katrezra, that crippled oaf. All he does is lounge about in Sanctuary beds spouting curses and lies of prophetic dreams. Can't for the life of me understand why Rodrik would spend so much time with the likes of him....
Are we EVER going to get to the tavern? You lot need to pick up the pace if you plan to get some proper drinking in...

Engwarth |

"Damn, that reminds me Katrezra is missing and I have to find him. I will have to have a drink with you later."
Move off in search of Katrezra.

Giant GM |

Omast looks at you a little confused and wants to object, but you move off before he can raise the point.
Katrezra was generally a creature of Sanctuary, but you know he is not to be found there. You ask about him in several of the more commonly frequented areas of Trunau including the Ramblehouse and even venture outside the walls to speak with the caravans at the Barterstones, but he is not to be found.
For a well known crippled half-orc, he has done a surprisingly good job of going to ground and hiding himself.

Engwarth |

“I’m at a loss as to what to do next, any ideas?”

Ghûn |

“Let me think where half-orc might hide.”
Does Ghûn know any places where half-orcs hang out?

Giant GM |

Historically Trunau has been relatively accepting of half-orcs, even though orcs regularly threaten the existence of the town. Moreover, anti half-orc bigotry is largely frowned upon; folks like Omast are tolerated, if barely, and generally keep their half-orc hating thoughts to themselves. Given these facts, half-orcs blend in with most other Trunauan's and don't tend to group together.
There are even half-orcs in roles of official leadership at Trunau, one of whom you have met with recently. Sara Morninghawk is not only the town's premier blacksmith, but she is also one of the three council members that advise Chief Defender Halgra.

Engwarth |

Do Sara and Katrezra know one another? If so go back to the smithy and see if she has any ideas about his location.
