Okay, that's a Room, but first let's see how long it took to open that door
Number of Smacky Smacks: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Two rounds, if there is a monster, you cannot surprise it
Let's build the room
Size: 1d20 ⇒ 14
A 20'x30' room
Contents?: 1d20 ⇒ 15
A Monster and a treasure
(the party, 5th level, is on the 5th level of the dungeon, so no modifiers here)
CR of Encounter: 1d20 ⇒ 17
CR=5
Table to use?: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Table 2
Monster Type from Table VIII. A. 2.: 1d100 ⇒ 36
Humanoid NPC, WTFunnel Cake
How many NPC types are here?: 1d3 ⇒ 2
there are two (I am going over the Table X section and realized I didn't create a roll for the sex of the NPC, might need a revision to Appendix "A")
Attitude?: 1d20 ⇒ 5
uh oh, hostile NPCs! Guarding a treasure
Terquem
The building of the NPCs for this encounter might be fun, I could do it, or one of you (or all of you, taking turns) could do it. What would you like to do?
We need to establish the Race (Table X. A., d20), the Class (Table X. B., d20) of each of the two NPCs
Note - I also see a table to determine the Level of the NPCs, which does not work with the encounter table that has already established the CR for the encounter, so I need to fix this
Establish Ability Score Array (Table X. E., d20)
Once I figure out how to fix the level determination of the NPC encounter we can determine the chance for the NPC's to have a Magic item
Remember that these NPCs are hostile, but that doesn't mean they attack immediately (or that you have to attack them immediately)
Once we know what they are, you can open a dialog with them
Now, I have learned that Role Playing with NPCs in the PbP format is often a game killer, so I will try to keep this short and sweet and check in several times a day until we get through this.
Thanks for your patience

Challenge accepted!
Race...dwarf,dwarf,dwarf!: 1d20 ⇒ 14 - Halfling
Race...anything but a Lich!!: 1d20 ⇒ 7 - Oompa Loompa, er I mean, an Angry Gnome! Man his hair must be crazy :)
Halflings have Class, right?: 1d20 ⇒ 5 - Aristocrat (Merchant)
Gnomic classical style: 1d20 ⇒ 4 - Chocolate Adept
Halfling Ability rays: 1d20 ⇒ 11 - Heroic! (15/14/13/12/10/8)
Oompa Loopa Ability rays: 1d20 ⇒ 3 - Basic (13/12/11/10/9/8)
Interesting, we may have lost two PCs(?) and are now encountering Two NPCs....conspiracy!
Terquem
Hey, great Ballar, a cranky merchant - with possible magic items to sell, sweet (his Gnome assistant gets all the abuse, haha)
also, I have been updated by Karuum and Keltos, both are still very excited to participate in this silly game, but both are a bit busy with real life right now, so we will drag them along
I'll build a "welcome" to the "A" Dungeon Store (glass walls, clean white surfaces, hmmm, what does that remind you of) and post it soon
Terquem
Okay, the way I think this is supposed to work is, the NPCs are each level 5, that means that one of them would be a CR 3 encounter, and adding a second one, makes this a CR 5 encounter
So rolling for the possibility that this merchant has Magic Items to sell, we get
NPC #1: 1d100 ⇒ 67
NPC #2: 1d100 ⇒ 53
They do not have any Magic items to sell

Ya Spain! Sorry about your tooth pulling though, that's never pleasant.
Ballar Fargrim
Ouch! Did you go with the classic percussive extraction method *wam!* or something more conventional, say the Schilder technique with
a Hedstrom file?
Ballar Fargrim
Glad you still have your sense of humor! Hang in there Terq :)
Ballar Fargrim
Roll'n, Roll'n, Roll'n, get them dice a Roll'n!: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Niversal
|
I have been looking over pathfinder unchained and would like a rebuild for the rogue. The biggest difference is finese training at first and third which gives weapon finese for free and dex to damage meaning I would lower str to raise more dex making the rogue more single attribute dependant (sad) Either way i will put Niversal on the account instead of on the pathfinder numbers just let me know
Ballar Fargrim
I've been skimming a bit of the unchained and some of it looks interesting, other parts not so. For example, there are some good ideas for skills, but then it gets complicated as to which skill grouping to use and of course has quite few GM discretions to back it up. I'm not as excited about the class rework as Niversal. I'll need to re-read it later for it all to sink in and make sense but am eager to find time to push on and read about scaling magic items. There are lots of examples of items already scaled, but I'd like to see how the rules could be used to convert items we may already have...now if I can just set aside the time :P
Niversal Two Blades
alright Terq, here is the alias to correct those issues, and the ammended character with appropriate pathfinder unchained changes using creation for here , with permission please invite and use this character from now on. Thanks
Terquem
Okay, so just putting this out there for discussion
Does anyone understand how "Brown Mold" in the game is supposed to work
Apparently there is no save, and if you get within 30 feet of it, you take 3d6 non-lethal cold damage (hell I take that every morning just because I live in Idaho!)
Is it a one time effect? Does it happen every round? I don't get it
Oh by the way, everyone takes
Scrapping the ice off the windshield in May, MAY!: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) = 10
non lethal damage, a game post describing the "carpet" is coming up
This is a holiday weekend, anyone going out of town. We'll probably slow down for the next few days.
A PM was sent to Keltos - there has been no reply, second message going out today.
If we lose this fighter, we will go on and I will not be recruiting again.
Niversal Two Blades
ok that is seriously cold, like Minnesota cold where I live.
son of beach! Alright, well this might be a good time to recruit a front line tanky type anyhow.
I will wait to post for the weekend but you can bet I will be warming myself up by chucking some alchemists fire followed by oil (cause its cheaper and once the alchemists fire is out it all burns the same)
Keryth Tarathiel
Ballar and I will see your Idaho and Minnesota and raise you a Canada. It snowed here just over a week ago. And not a little bit. (Now someone who lives in Alaska or the Territories can chime in next). :)
And you don't want to he throwing any alchemists fire at it. :P
BTW you only take damage if you are within 5' of it, not 30'. That likely means only Niveraal takes damage.
As for frequency et all I would say it up to the DM. ;) (It is poorly worded at best)
Ballar Fargrim
Periodic check: 1d20 ⇒ 10 There is a new passageway
Table III: 1d20 ⇒ 17 A Four Way intersection - A Four Way Intersection forms a cross in an additional Section of Passageway added to the existing Passageway that is 30’ to the center of the cross and each New Passageway extends from the cross a distance of 30’. The Character Party can choose what direction to explore and a new Periodic Check is made.
Zaehyra Sillaesa
Had an exceptionally lousy day today, sorry I didn't get the update written as I had planned
Thanks for the clarification Keryth
PM now going out to Zarhyra
Is Zarhyra me? I haven't seen a PM
Zaehyra Sillaesa
My mail box says I sent you a PM on Thursday, May 21?
Mine has nothing >.>
Ballar Fargrim
... it is non lethal damage, so he'll recover quickly
If I've interpreted you correctly, am I to think we can rest here a few minutes and then Niversal can continue anew? or will he take 10 hours to recover?
Terquem
WOW, I had no idea (just looked it up for the first time) that nonlethal damage takes one hour per point to recover, sheesh, but yes it will take ten hours for him to recover from the Brown Mold Cold Damage.
How about this?
To run across the Brown Mold, I will say that each character can make a Fortitude Save, with a DC equal to 16, if you fail you take the full 3d6 damage from the cold, but if you succeed, you take only half damage.
Ballar Fargrim
He'll still need five hours to recover :/
If I might suggest a variant rule for nonlethal damage...
Ballar Fargrim
Well, since every choice will need a roll...
North: 1d20 ⇒ 20- There is a Wandering Monster. Go to Table VIII.
East: 1d20 ⇒ 8 - There is a Door. Determine the number and location from Table I. A., and then go to Table II.
South: 1d20 ⇒ 8 - There is a Door. Determine the number and location from Table I. A., and then go to Table II.
Forget the doors, looks who's coming! (Table VIII): 1d20 ⇒ 14 - CR = APL
What is the Matrix? (Table VIII.A): 1d20 ⇒ 13 - I think this means we should consult Table 2, so...
Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum...(Table VIII. A. 2. Monster Type): 1d100 ⇒ 41 - Humanoid, monster – group
Niversal Two Blades
reaches into his handy haversack while around the corner and pulls out his I contract reading sub paragraph six section two in a chant:
"I call upon the all powerful I contract to summon to us a fifth level fighter for this fight!"
lol
Ballar Fargrim
Always happy to receive the XP Terq, but I was wondering about:
Day 7, turn 67 (3 of 6): ??XP for befriending and then shopping at Hostile iVan's
Day 7, turn 73 (1 of 6): ??XP for negotiating our way around Brown Mold
North it is...courtesy of Table I: 1d20 ⇒ 4 The Passageway continues straight ahead. Check this table again after 60’. But passages are only added in 30foot increments... do we roll the periodic check again?
Err, North it is! Courtesy of Table I, again?: 1d20 ⇒ 19 There is a Trick or Trap. Go to Table VII.
Go directly to Table VII, do not pass Go and do not collect 200 gold: 1d20 ⇒ 2 A Trick. Go to Table V. A? Er, I think that's an error. How about VII.A.?
Table VII.A.: 1d20 ⇒ 9 Hostile Levitation! (an area effect) and a Spinning Floor (See entries below for both): Escape from this trick is nearly impossible. The characters cannot escape unless they can overcome the effect of the Hostile Levitation and move out of the area before the area Spins (using the same time lag as listed in result 8-10 below).
(Each Character receives 100 experience points)
1-60 I should continue, 61-100 am out of my depths and should consult the GM: 1d100 ⇒ 65 Yup. Oh Terq! A little help please :)
Terquem
When features are discovered (tricks, traps, chambers, new passageways, stairs, turns) they always come with 30' of passageway attached to them, to get things started.
The periodic check, Passageway Continues, is just 60' of more passageway exactly like the one you are in (which might be the 30 feet of passageway attached to something you already dealt with, or could be 60 feet of boring passageway you've been trudging through)
Experience Points for Mold and Shopping will be calculated and posted soon.
meanwhile...
