The party surround the machine and pummel it to pieces. It's metal lies torn on the dusty floor, no longer repairing its self. The red light in its eye goes dim, and it stops moving. After a minute the smoke dissapates and the metal cavern grows quiet.

Val stands in the next room with a lit torch. Goggles on, she's inspecting a strange machine that's attached to both sides of the far door. Coils of metal tubes with nozzle-like protrusions jut out of the wall near the door frame and into the room. Val peers into the darkness beyond the far door. A long thin probe extends from a nearby wall, the tip flashing with lights. It appears to inspect Val from the side, as if a luminous head of a stiff snake.

The javelin sticks into the mess of wires and metal tubes with a *thunk

"WHOA. Whoa. Whoa whoa whoa." Val looks up at Askra with her hands raised. The little "light snake" quickly retracts into the wall and makes an angry chirp as its hatch slams shut. Val looks at it for a moment, then the Javelin, eyebrows furrowed. She then relaxes and looks over at Askra and the party and the downed machine.

"Are we okay to keep moving then? Jean, Relas? Nashara are you healed? Fij, Palo, were you hit? Any skulks on our tail Kaad? Khonnir's got to be close."

How ignorant! Who knows what we could have learned from that? These 'things' look intelligent by comparison. They might even be able to help us find Khonnir!
"Yeah, you're right Val. Let's go look for your Khonnir. Can anyone detect any evidence of his passing?"

Aside from the exits there is only one other door, but it wont budge for Nashara. Kaad looks behind for any trailing Skulks, but he finds none. The group moves into the room with Val and the collection of tubes, coils, and wires sticking out of the wall and pointing at them. From there they begin to move through an opening unlike the others. The ground quickly becomes sandy, and the walls are a reddish rock. The door has lead to a desert cave tunnel. After only a few meters, the tunnel opens up to a wide, pitch black desert.

At first glance, this cold cavern presents a strange and disconcerting vista - that of a desert valley under a starless night sky. A stretch of sand covers the ground, a vista broken here and there by bits of strange, spiky shells or contorted, dead fronds that look like branches.

Ahead, behind, to all sides, figures begin to appear, emerging from the sand.

At the top of a dune one of the humanoid figures slowly begins moving towards the party, and a faint misty light appears where his eyes should be. Reacting with surprising clarity, Palomia utters a few arcane words and snaps her fingers. With the snap, an oily-looking substance suddenly coats the ground underneath the creature that attacked Jean.

Cast Grease, DC 14 Reflex save or Jean's friend winds up on his kiester. Also good to see you Fijit, I was a little worried!

Relas yowls in pain and surprise as one of the creatures manages to catch him with a claw! Whipping around, he attempts to return the favor with a savage bite...

Attack (CHOMP): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

And then a painful sting, for good measure!

Jean is actually hit 3x because she has AC10 when flat footed. 12 would still hit her anyway.
Also, I only see 1 monster for each PC... they have the Pounce ability?!

Damage #3: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"Ahhh!"
Jean once again staggers under the pain. Looking around, she sees that they are surrounded and retreats to the middle of the group.

@GM:

The RNG here is sequential for each dX.

Example:
STEP1 --- Roll 1d20+1 & 1d20+2 - > Preview
STEP2 --- Change modifiers to: Roll 1d20+2 & 1d20+1 - > Preview
STEP3 --- (Optional) Try STEP1 and STEP2 using a different die (e.g. d8).

As you would see, the two rolls come up the same according to some sort of queue based on the sequence they're called, despite different names or modifiers. I'm not sure if this is how you understand it already, but FYI anyway.

Also, I GM a few threads myself and have caught players abusing the preview function since the roll won't change despite modifiers and renames. They check first if they would roll high before stating the actions. It's obvious with spell casters who seem to be spamming their 0-level spells whose RTA never connects, then they hit with EVERY non-cantrip/orison offensive spell.

EDIT: The roll sequence NEVER changes until the queue is used, even after days. I've tried waiting it out to prevent a PK once, but I keep rolling the same d20. :/

Nashara cleaves through her second target with ease, but as the bones collapse on the ground, she notices an eerie trait about them.
Knowledge religion

Palomia casts a slippery spell to help protect Jean.

reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
The monster maintains its footing, at home in the sand.
sorry jean!

The rest of the party fights the creatures, but cant seem to land a decent blow. The party grows tired, and afraid, they lack Nashara's conviction. Her sword of light which pierces the darkness. Even Relas, who is agile enough to land a blow, finds that only his teeth can crush bone, but his stinger cannot seem to harm the monsters.

With Palomia and Jean retreating to the center, Fijit is left directly between two of the four armed skeleton creatures. The simply close the gap, flanking her!

I can't tell what the grid is doing on my phone very well, so if this doesn't make sense ignore it and Askra will just attack the same creature she was already in melee with without the flanking bonus...

5' step + Move Action Shift over to melee range of Fijit's bottom flanker.

Standard Action: Attack Fijit's assailant.

Shwann!: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 + 1 - 1 + 1 + 2 = 8 [+2 BAB, +2 Str, +1 Weapon focus, -1 PA, +1 Studied Target, +2 flank]
Jopp!!!: 2d6 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 + 3 + 1 = 16 [two hand Str, PA, +1 Studied Target]

Well, with a roll like that it matters very little except maybe to change the tactical battlefield...

He then shifts his weight backwards, attempting to close ranks with Palomia and the rest of the group to prevent these things from being able to attack everyone on all sides at once.

5 foot step back towards Fijit.
