Well, I try to think of it less as 'supposed to do' and more as 'holy shat, what can we do now?'. I think it is fair to say now that fighting to the last probably won't be the best course of action. Still a course of action, but probably not the best.

I knew one of these days someone was going to do a Pokemon reference here one of these days!

I always found it odd that characters enjoy casting sleep, but never experienced it cast on them.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
True. But right now it seems we lost. I'm hoping Drizzt comes jumping in and saves our butts...um wait...is he even in this universe?

I'd tell you, but I've forgotten which realm he's from

I certainly understand your frustration. Normally, it starts with an invasion of quasi-sentient goblins wreaking havoc wherever they roam, before quickly and ruthlessly being dispatched by adventurers who hesitate (at best) to question if the life of a goblin is worth caring about. The town rejoices before showering the now-heroes with presents, favors, gold, and privileges; then suddenly forgetting the initial threat before it returns seven-fold.
However, this time the heroes are standing on the doorstep of a family representative of the infernal national government who has surrounded his claimed fortress with a near numberless contingent of heartless and merciless hellknights, guardsmen, and over-eager militant civilian supporters. Even if the heroes manage to defeat countless enemies, they will never receive a shower of presents, favors, gold, or privileges. They will be given nothing but the title of ruthless rebels who deserve nothing but a drawn out excruciation from the Order of the Rack.
Hardly a battle against quasi-sentient goblins.
Sarcasm and cynicism aside, I will just say that we cannot approach this situation like the ones we are used to in previous games.
We're gonna have to run our freaking little assets off.
DM Hell's Fox
We are officially off the book. No worries, I have a plan.
DM Hell's Fox
Well to be fair, I'm actually the one who derailed you.
And ... well all things considered, you guys have been pretty good. My first group immediately split away from each other. Some fought to the death, some ran home, and some went around to save civilians. It was a nightmare.

I can believe it. I think I'm gonna start playing this game like the Batman Arkham series: less straight-up combat, more using your wits and stealth. Which, really, should be my forte.
DM Hell's Fox
I highly recommend that approach.

So, provided someone drags me down into the sewers to be trained by Splinter, expect me to be swirling my cape around and speaking in a deep, gravelly voice.
Tarnagius Vashnarstill
Yeah, I was figuring on laying the smack down on the group that threw their cloaks off and hid in the crowd, then when like 50 people come running out the gates of the opera being all "we gotta go" and off we run. Didn't figure on the sleep spell, which is actually kind of in-character for Tarnagius, now that I think about it.
DM Hell's Fox
In hindsight, I made the DC for that spell wayyy too high. I completely forgot that Kethaera was half elf until I was writing the post, though.
DC was 15. 3 Wisdom + 1st level spell + 1 spell focus (enchantment).

I'm back, catching up and posting ASAP
DM Hell's Fox
Welcome back, Jules. I was getting worried about you
Side note: I have found a player who would be interested in replacing Lirandra.
DM Hell's Fox
I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be away for the next 24-36 hours. I'm working the Canadian election, and it is a long, drawn out process. I will be extremely weary, but fear not, I shall return.
DM Hell's Fox
I'm hoping to see some action from Kethaera in the near future. I'm planning to make these ratfolk recurring NPCs, so it would be great to see some bonding with them.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
I'm still here. Sorry about not posting lately. Been busy with work and all. I'll post right away.
Jules Corvid
Yay, she lives!
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Yeah between work and doctors' appointments I've been busy. Well doesn't seem that I didn't miss much except the introduction of the ratfolk rescuers. And yes I agree I hope we can bond with them as well as we continue the adventure! :3
DM Hell's Fox
Thanks Kethaera! Welcome back =D
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Thank you! I kept forgetting to let y'all know that I would be absent for a bit this week due to work and doctor visits. Sorry about that.
DM Hell's Fox
I'd like to talk to everyone about the rebellion.
Included now is our official Rebellion sheet.
You have 3 different ways to focus your rebellion:
- Loyalty (political clout and popularity)
- Secrecy (sneaky and subtle)
- Security (scrappy and eager to fight)
You can change this focus later if you would like, but everyone needs to agree with it. Please work together to determine your focus.
I'd like everyone to select a position:
Unlike Kingmaker, positions have little hierarchy in this game. You can preform a week's work of rebellion activities without actually spending a week working (allowing you to make profession checks and the like). I'll walk you through it when we make our first week.
- Demagogue: The officer adds his or her Constitution or Charisma modifier to the rebellion’s Loyalty check.
- Partisan: The officer adds his or her Strength or Wisdom modifier to the rebellion’s Security check.
- Recruiter: The number of supporters recruited during the Upkeep phase on a successful Organization check is increased by the officer’s character level. This bonus stacks with that provided by other recruiters.
- Sentinel: The officer grants a +1 bonus to the rebellion’s two secondary Organization checks, and can aid during all Organization checks attempted to resolve one event during the Event phase. The Sentinel can add her Constitution or Charisma modifier to a Loyalty check, her Strength or Wisdom Modifier to a Security check, or her Dexterity or Intelligence modifier to a Secrecy check made during this event’s resolution.
- Spymaster: The officer adds his or her Dexterity or Intelligence modifier to the rebellion’s Secrecy check.
- Strategist: The officer grants the Silver Ravens a bonus rebellion action during the Activity phase. Any Organization check made to resolve the effects of this bonus action gain a +2 bonus on the check.

I think our focus should be either loyalty or secrecy. As for our rolls, I'm good with either Sentinel or Spymaster, though I can take Demagogue if Kethaera doesn't.
Jules Corvid
Secrecy would likely be the best thing to start with. Make a brazen move too early and everything could crumble.
I would very much like Spymaster as I think that's how I am building Jules' skillset over combat but will defer to the group.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Demagogue will work for Kethaera. Although I don't think there's nothing against having two Demagogues if the gm is okay with that.
Also any word when our missing player shows back up?
Or are we replacing her?
Not trying to be rude or anything just keeping uptodate.
DM Hell's Fox
That's correct, Pylos. It's really just a title anyways, these positions don't come into effect like being a king or anything. The Demagogue can't actually order anyone around. Instead, everyone discusses together as a team. The only thing that the different positions do is grant different modifiers to different areas in the rebellion sheet. So while you can't have two Demagogues, you can have two 'leaders' (although I would encourage everyone to consider it more as an equal council more than anything else).
I've got no information about Lirandra at this time. I'm currently working with someone to introduce a replacement, but we'll see. No guarantees on that person being a 'healer' either. How do you guys feel about your current composition, and would you want a 5th character? If so, what kind of character would you like to have join the group?
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Probably a healer would be good. Doesn't have to be a cleric though
But yeah I forgot that you can only be in one position.
Jules Corvid
A healer wouldn't hurt.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Btw Jules is your character a member of the Bellflower Network? I saw network mentioned in your background so I was curious.
DM Hell's Fox
I'll see if I can do something in the near future. Probably within the next day or two. In the meantime, I recommend we sort out the Rebellion sheet, and continue with the gameplay
Jules Corvid
He has ties to the Network but not necessarily a member yet unless GM would allow that.
Beorn the Divine
Hello there. I'm in Fox's Runelord's game. I originally pitched an idea of a 'Inglorious Basterd' type fellow who likes beating in Hellknight skulls(Urban Ranger)
As for Healer, I do want to avoid healbotting if a healer is needed. One thing that another Dm is doing 'MiniGM' is have an npc follow the group around, in his Runelord game he has a Goblin Cat named Phooka who is a life oracle to offer heals. So maybe a Ratfolk healer who isn't defenseless but prefers to stay in the back and slather on what they swear is healing poultices on everyone.
DM Hell's Fox
That's not a bad suggestion, and I'd be willing to implement a small healer npc of sorts. I have one in my at-the-table runelords game: A silvanshee that one player had summoned before the character died shortly thereafter... so I kept the silvanshee and started giving him a few levels in cleric.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Btw, all of Kethaera's connections and suggestions are up to the GM if they pull through or not. However, I think involving the Church of Shelyn would be a good idea. Especially given on how much they are sick and tired of being restricted by the government. But the others I'm leaving up to the gm.
DM Hell's Fox
I'll definitely go with the Church of Shelyn. Having contact there will help the party quite a lot.
I'm thinking of bringing in an NPC alchemist (Chirurgeon) to help with out-of-battle healing. They would be able to give you a few free potions per day, plus brew anything you want... for a price. I think it would be good to see you pour a few of your resources into the alchemist to balance the boons they give you for free. You could also go out of your way to find additional alchemy texts or wizard spellbooks to add to their list of possible alchemical potions.
Jules Corvid
Seems like a fit to me until say leadership levels lol.
It means we have to be far more conservative on combat and ditch if it starts going bad.
So as it stands he have the following:
Focus votes:
Loyalty 2
Secrecy 2
Security 0
At this point I think Security is off the table lol. So we need to narrow 2 down to 1.
Positions interested:
Demagogue - Kethaera and Pylos
Partisan -
Recruiter -
Sentinel - Pylos, Tarnagius
Spymaster - Pylos, Jules
Strategist -
Tarnagius seems like he could also fit the Strategist role looking at his tactician archetype
Pylos' masked avenger persona could really fit in a multitude of things including partisan and recruiter
Kethaera also seems a good fit for recruiter as she is a known face for the people.
The only other role I can see Jules in would be maybe Strategist or recruiter? But pylos or Kethaera would likely be better at recruiting than him as they are distinct faces (and masks) for the people.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
So I could be both recruiter and Demagogue then? Seems reasonable and a good fit actually.
I ask as we have several positions to fill and not a lot of people to fill them. In wartime, sometimes soldiers would have to fill several roles especially if too many officers were killed. This happened a great deal in WWI and WWII. Not to mention it was quite common during the French Resistance in WWII and the Russian Partisans during the Nazi Invasion of the Soviet Union. I know it's probably breaking the rules but at the same time it also creates a sense of realism, not to mention it makes it feel like we are fighting beside Charles De Gaulle too! Well sort of. Anyhow if the gm is okay with it maybe have several people do multiple roles but no position is filled by two people.
I would like a good balance between the three but as of now I'm not sure. I would have liked a bit more security.
And sweet! Having the Church of Shelyn would be greatly useful.
Bringing in the Riftwardens...that might be a stretch. Their resources would be useful against devils summoned by our enemies. Not to mention bringing in elven merchants and mercenaries would be problematic and beneficial at the same time. Of course things like that take time to gather and arrive, which usually happened in wartime.
